This is the completed bully romance series of the Green Hills Academy Trilogy. Included books are: Savage Devil, Twisted Knight, and Broken King. I should have died that night, but it was my mom that ultimately perished. Now I'm alone, going to the prestigious academy where I'm seen as an outcast. I know I don't belong. The devil himself, Knight King, has made it crystal clear to me. He rules the school and I'm nothing to him. Just a girl from the wrong side of the tracks. A worthless orphan trying to steal from the rich. What he doesn't know is I'm not here because I want to be. I'm here to find out why my mom died. They said it was an accident, but I suspect something much worse. I got to ask, why does the devil want me to go away? Is there something he's hiding from me?
If you like your romance with a good ol’ Murder/Mystery running through it, this trilogy is for you. There’s murder, secrets and lies and there’s a lot of what I would class as ‘The OC’ style drama (or Gossip Girl for you youngsters 😉)
Knight is your typical antihero. He’s the bad boy with an attitude that hates the world and while I really enjoyed his character arc and what he was trying to achieve, the same could not be said for Violet.
Violet, at the beginning seemed like she was going to be a great character. She gave vibes like she was going to stick it to the rich stuck up kids and carve her own path. But she didn’t. Well she kind of did, but her wavering trust in Knight frustrated me. The miscommunication trope was strong with this one folks, and for me it just didn’t work. Violet & Knight’s whole relationship could have been next level if she had only trusted him more. Did he earn that trust? Not always, but the majority of the time, yes he did. He saved her ass more than enough to warrant some two way street trust which he didn’t get.
I was intrigued by Briggs, I would have liked more from both him and Caleb. And while the drama with the adults was sky high I thoroughly enjoyed the sinister deeds they were all involved in!!
This was definitely a quick and easy palette cleansing read that you didn’t have to think to hard about.
When I started this book, I was optimistic. I am a sucker for enemies to lovers tropes and strong heroines, but…. The heroine, Violet, just did not live up to the hype. The book description boasted a sassy strong female character, and to be frank, she was kind of an idiot. All the simple hints that should be obvious to the characters and not just the readers were completely ignored and it seemed as if she would just run into situations with no forethought whatsoever. I appreciated her courage (because who doesn’t love a kicka** brave chick) but she came off more as childish “I hear one sentence, jump to conclusions, and then do whatever I want” bravery.
The hero was alright. I have nothing particularly bad to say or good to say. So take that for whatever its worth.
Despite being annoyed that Violet did not have more than two brain cell to rub together, the mystery was solved and I thought the author placed a nice bow over the whole situation. I also enjoyed the scenes between Ava and the other characters. I definitely get vibes similar to Riverdale with the small diner, south vs north side, the community secrets, and so forth.
As for the spice, I thought it was eh. It seemed to be repetitive in every scene and lacked the special something that makes someone want to stop reading and just contemplate life. I never had that “ohhhh now that was spiccceeeyyyyyy” thought while reading this series, but it was not the worst I have read.
I feel like this series had a lot of potential & that maybe with a better editor or a strong collaborator that it could’ve been fleshed out better & been a really strong story. Unfortunately, for me, it felt a little Scooby Doo-ish. A bunch of high schoolers breaking the law & solving murders & mysteries with evil, corrupt billionaires paying off everyone so they can get away with whatever they want?
I started out really liking Violet but honestly, she was kinda dumb. I was practically YELLING at her because she was always doing stupid shit, missing clues, overreacting, not listening to her gut (even when it was screaming at her), etc.
There were also a bunch of contradictions, which just annoy me (ie Knight getting on his hands to pray nightly, but then later saying he wasn’t religious or a prayer person; Violet being a virtual ninja with her self defense skills, but then getting attacked/pinned in place, forced into vehicles, etc).
I do want to give kudos to the author for always making a point to write in that Knight would wrap it before he tapped it. I think that’s an important detail to include.
This book series was pretty good. I gave it three stars as it just left me wanting with the characters. The plot twists were pretty good though. I kept reading because i wanted to find out who killed her mom and left her that night. That part of the story line and all the inbetween related to that was really good and I enjoyed. If you get this series get it for the mystery portion for sure. I was just a little let down on the romance sexy time parts and was really looking forward to a good bully high school romance but I stayed for the mystery suspense part.
Also was there a trigger caution for the attempted rape scene. If not there most definitely should be. I usually DNF books right there but I didn't. However, it is mentioned over and over throughout the series afterwards so it is a big deal to the character and the book. - which it should be - If this causes a trigger for anyone this will affect them the whole series even if they skip the scene.
Green Hills Academy Trilogy Box Set by Josie Max: 4 stars This series had a lot of potential, and started out strong in book 1 - Both Violet/Knight have lost their parents.. An unsolved murder and an accident that may have been a murder. Bullies, then more as both seek answers. Book 2 - Who to trust? More secrets, and hidden agendas. Threats, dangers and plots. And Murders. Ends on a cliffhanger. Book 3 - The series conclusion had filler it didn’t need, and seemed out of character with some of the drama and the s3x. The little sister added to the story with her cuteness but detracted too because she seemed to have no supervision. Lots of murders, and crazy blame frames that made no sense. This conclusion did seem to tie up the loose ends, but so much just wasn’t believable. —PTATORS
This was kind of a palette cleanser for me. Something quick and easy to read. No big twists and turns and nothing too scarring. There's murder and attempted SA so if you do have triggers beware but for me it wasn't anything too dark. The stories a little rushed and the heroine is a little annoying at times. She's either too trusting or too suspicious there's no in-between for her. But ultimately I enjoyed the story and unraveling the mystery within the series. It was a quick not too serious read for me. Which I appreciated.
