The Sacred Mystery #4

The Art of Alchemy: Inner Alchemy & the Revelation of the Philosopher’s Stone

Rate this book
The Step-by-step practical guide to Inner Alchemy & the Philosopher’s Stone

From the dawn of humanity to the modern age, alchemy has always been a subject of great curiosity. Its mere mention brings old tales of wiseman working in smoke-filled alchemical laboratories trying to transform metals into gold whilst creating elixirs that immortalized the body.

While this mythical picture is still prevalent today, the alchemical teachings and practices found in this volume are not about creating medicines or heating toxic materials in brick furnaces to create bizarre compounds but about using our body and mind as the alchemical laboratory.

This book is centered on practices and procedures of Inner Alchemy, and it aims to shed new light on this ancient tradition, revealing its power to deeply transmute our body, energy, mind, and soul.

Although it may appear to be an arcane discipline filled with cryptic and often unintelligible language, alchemy holds a powerful treasure once its lexicon and teachings are decoded. The secret to creating the real Philosopher's Stone and achieving true immortality is now at your disposal.

Having read many alchemical books throughout the years, I consider The Art of Alchemy the most understandable, forthright, and valuable alchemical work. It’s much more about the inner alchemy of the soul than mixing compounds, and this is exactly what I wanted.

The Philosopher’s Stone is each human’s ultimate goal, and this book demystifies it very well through its teachings and practical mystical techniques. Recommended.

This book is all you need on Alchemy packed in a short 131 pages. I have books in my library on the subject that are anywhere between 500 to 1,000 pages. The author covered so much in this short read along with practices and meditations to awaken the scared fire (kundalini) that lays dormant in the root chakra. If you are new to Alchemy or not I highly recommend this book especially the mediations and practices. Fantastic read on the subject!

The best thing about this book is that it helps make the basics of the philosophy of alchemy accessible. The only problem is when all is said and done a lot of it feels redundant with other methods of occultism and magical practice.

This is a short book that can be read in a day or two. However, it contains a lot of useful information, including a set of alchemical exercises that could last a lifetime.
There are three reasons why the text is so brief. First, there are no case studies. Books like this usually have several examples of ordinary individuals who achieved amazing results by following the author’s guidance. They appeal to some readers but I’ve rarely found them inspiring.
Second, there are no references to expensive residential courses or workshops that the reader is encouraged to sign up for if they are “truly serious” about magickal work. The most this author does is offer you a free book if you sign up for his newsletter. Maybe the newsletter refers to expensive workshops but you don’t have to take part in them to get a lot out of this book..
Third, no attempt is made to provide any proof that the techniques described here actually work. Fortunately, there is a growing body of evidence across a range of scientific disciplines from neuroscience to endocrinology to quantum physics showing that meditation and breathwork can positively affect brain chemistry, heart rate, blood pressure, pain management etc. In short, following some of the exercises set out here could have beneficial effects on your mental and physical health, even if you never transform yourself into an alchemist. Although the author’s programme is original, much of the material here does chime with what you would find in similar works, for example, the references to the seven chakras or energy centres.
It is worth noting that the copyright page contains a lengthy rubric stressing the importance of using conventional medical services to address any health concerns that the reader might have. This is basic common sense. It is also worth noting that the author advises that you should consult a healthcare professional before doing any of the meditations.
A feature of this author’s works is the low cost of following his programmes - except for the time needed, which can be considerable. In terms of equipment, he talks about a candle, a yoga mat and a small corner of your home devoted to the exercises. In this volume, there is one exercise that involves more expense (it’s the only practical alchemical exercise here) and another that involves seven candles. The point is that the transformations take place within you and depend on your powers of relaxation and concentration, not on expensive kit that will empty your wallet.
This book is the fourth in a series of four and I would advise the reader to tackle them in order. If you have no previous experience of the exercises involved, it is best to work through The Art of Mysticism first. It has a beginner level programme for developing effective meditation and concentration abilities. The remaining volumes do not constitute a unified programme. Although they have common elements, they take you in different directions. My advice is that you pick one of the three and commit to completing the exercises over a few months or a year or more. You could then consider doing the same with one of the remaining volumes. Then you could consider completing the programme in the final volume. It could take you around four years to cover the four volumes to a basic level. However, be aware that you could spend the rest of your life focusing on just one volume. Completing all of them to a level of mastery in each would be a major achievement.

Of the series, I opine that this is the best one. It is interesting how everything that one learnt from the other books culminates in the exploration of inner alchemy. If one reads these books one after the other as I did, many of this book is skippable because many of the exercises are the same as in the other books. Sarom makes it so a student of alchemy finds the topic approachable and practical in accordance to his life.

This book is a simple explanation of alchemy. I give it 5 stars for what it is, and that is a comprehensive introduction. If you’re looking to understand the basics of alchemy and get a good grasp on it and how to start the process, this is a fantastic book for that. If you’re looking for a deeper dive, something advanced, or if you already really understand the basics you may want to skip.

I read this book after taking some courses with an occult school. I felt like I had a good understanding, but that I still had some holes in my foundational understanding. This book really helped me understand the basics in a more solid way.

I gotta give this book 5 stars due to the fact of it’s really straightforward and doesn’t give a lot of filler information like a lot of books that I’ve read on this topic. I also love how the author themselves give a great explanation on how to work this path and shows you that it’s not just about transforming something into another, but working on yourself in order to achieve what you want to achieve in things of that nature I absolutely have to say that this is an amazing book for beginners that are just coming into this path and even for someone who is advanced in the path that just wanted to touch on the basics again, I highly recommend this book. It’s great.

Cover is lovely, and that's it. I'm lucky I was given these books as a gift. absolute rubbish, the author threw in some mishmash of some ideas of others without even the courtesy of including proper references. I am not sure if they even know the basics. Absolute rubbish.

I really liked this book, it was short, to the point, and not overly wordy. I will definitely be integrating these techniques into my practice.
