Asheville Brewing #4.5

Luck of the Draw

Rate this book
A standalone, HEA novella in the Asheville Brewing world

Life’s not a fairytale for women like me, divorced and creeping up on middle age…until a hot younger man finds my lost shoes.

Crashing weddings is so not my thing. I’d much rather stay home and watch HGTV . . . and ignore the fact that my life is messier than those fixer-upper houses. Because my jerk ex left, and the only thing keeping a roof over my sons’ heads is my crappy telemarketing job.

But then I get a challenge from the Bad Luck Club, the group I joined to turn my luck around: Do something that breaks the rules. One ill-advised confession to my best friend later, I’m strapping on a pair of heels and crashing the wedding of two of the owners of Buchanan Brewery.

The last thing I expect is to meet someone, let alone the sexy younger bartender who calls me out and finds my lost shoes, something straight out of Cinderella. And the very last thing I expect is to fall for him.

It feels like I’m in a dream come true, a fairy tale, but the crap part about dreams is that they have to end.

Or do they?

This is a really sweet story.
A single Mum to two boys Dee has a wild one night stand with a sexy barman Dylan.
After she crashes a wedding were Dylan is working, because she is a member of the BAD LUCK CLUB and her challenge is to do something that breaks the rules so yeah she crashes a wedding with her friend Samantha.
The night she shares with Dylan is unforgettable for them both, but they both make assumptions about eachother and what they want after their sexy night.
Wires are crossed and Dee flees the scene and far from Dylan, but fate has other ideas and they soon cross paths again.
I love the references to Cinderella within this book, and I Love Dylan he is perfect for Dee.
Dee is so insecure of her situation and because of her EX Husband who made her feel bad about herself. But Dylan is sexy and sweet and makes Dee feel like a princess and desirable.
This is a compelling short story that fits perfectly in this series.
It may not be as long as the other books but it is just as meaningful, magnificent and packed full of romance.
I really Loved it.
I highly recommend it.
5 Stars.

This was great! I absolutely loved it! Continuation of the Asheville Brewing series. Fantastic characters new and old ones both, story line and the setting makes you feel like coming home to your family and friends.
Dee and Dylan's story is like a fairytale in a real life. Challenges to be completed, misunderstandings, fun, laughter, amazing friendships and love. Add goats to it with their Goat lady and chaos's garanteed. This book has it all and much more but it runs much deeper than fun. It's also about how easily people's opinions can smash or e
Sweet, eccentric, wise and loving auntie Dottie! You can't get enough of her, can you? Fairy Godmother that is!
You guys, you all need this story in your life!

I've enjoyed this entire series, and Luck of the Draw was the sweet romcom I was hoping for. With an age gap where the woman's older (one of my favorite tropes), this story was passionate, swoon-worthy, and so much fun. Dee is coming back to herself after a crappy marriage and divorce. With two sons that I adored, she finds it difficult to get over her mindset. Dylan was the perfect hero for her. He's genuine, kind, honest, and so very sexy. Their start is bumpy, but their chemistry is insane. And even though this is a novella, I felt the depth of the characters was deep and true. It naturally got to the happy ending, and was stunningly well developed. I got to see some of my old friends from Buchanan's Brewery, and it made me really excited for what's coming in the Bad Luck Club series. I highly recommend this series and Luck of the Draw.

Now that the Buchanan siblings have all shared their story, authors A.R. Casella and Denise Grover Swank could have easily called it the end of the Asheville Brewery series. Instead, we get Luck of the Draw, a continuation of the goings on in Asheville staring a secondary character from the previous novel.

In this one, we get to follow Deeandra (Dee) from the Bad Luck Club. In the middle of a divorce, crappy job, and two boys to raise, Dee answered the ad for Bad Luck Club and hasn't turned back. When her challenge was to "Do something that breaks the rules", she knew she couldn't skip it or she would be out of the club. So, she crashes a wedding. Of course, knowing how these books go, she ends up meeting someone and they really hit it off. But will the secrets tear them apart? Did Dee draw a lucky hand?

This is really a cute romantic fairytale inspired novella. I really enjoyed the Cinderella references. It was refreshing to see that this mum had kiddos and was out for a night to have fun. I really loved her bestie, Sam too. Dee and Dylan are the cutest match and it was great to see some of the other characters from the Asheville Brewery series.
If you’re looking for a quick, funny, HEA read then consider picking this up.
The audiobook was fun to listen to as well.

This one was cute. Loved how Dee and Dylan found happiness with each other. From crashing the wedding at the start to crashing a wedding at the end, these two managed to work things out pretty quickly, a good thing, as it let them start living their lives together.

My kind of one night stand story

I like this story of Dee and Dylan and their one night stand. It was different and I like that some of the secrets of the story didn't come out until almost the end. And of course I love that Dottie is featured in this story prominently. She is the best comic relief and offers great words of wisdom. This is definitely a feel good HEA story.

I loved Dee and Dylan so much I wish their story was a bit longer instead of just a novella!

If you have made it this far in the series then you are aware of what the Bad Luck Club is and Deeandra is a member of it along with her best friend, Samantha. Dee is in the midst of a divorce and trying to support herself and her boys by any means possible. She has a dead end job she hates and is basically down on herself after years of her husband putting her down. One of her dares from the Bad Luck Club is to do something illegal and Sam knows that is her dare/task so she sets out to assist her. Since they are both moms they have to be careful with how far they go in doing something illegal and Sam figures crashing a wedding will suffice. Dee is 100% uncomfortable with the idea but little does she know it doing so will change her life.

Dylan came to Ashville for a visit and ended up staying. When he was visiting there he helped break up a fight and met Dottie, fortune teller extraordinaire. She told him at that very moment he was right where he needed to be and she extended a job offer to him to be a bar tender at the brewery. It is at River and Georgie's wedding that he is also tasked with stopping wedding crashers and as soon as he sees Deeandra attempting to crash and their eyes meet he knows he must meet her and sets out to do so once his shift is over and he lucks out.

They are both drawn to each other and cannot understand why they feel so strongly so quickly. I believe it was definitely love at first sight. While Dee has some hang ups on the two of them they are merely trivial to Dylan and he will do whatever he can to win her over.

The connection between this two was instant and I loved how he saw Dee through his eyes which was the opposite of her ex-husband. Dylan is everything her ex isn't. I enjoyed this series very much and this novella was no exception. I loved how Dee's oldest son went into instant protector mode for his mama and Dylan recognized it and respected it. I loved how all of the characters were intertwined with each other in some way or another. There really was no going wrong with this story.

Luck of the Draw is I believe the final story in the Ashville Brewing series. It's perhaps a bit too long to be considered a novella and a bit too short to be considered a full length book. Whatever it's a great addition to the series that sort of dovetails into The Bad Luck Club the next series.
We first met Dee in earlier books as one of the members of the Bad Luck Club. Dee is an almost divorced 38 year old single mom of two boys. Having been out of the job market as a stay at home mom for fourteen years She struggles to make ends meet working a terrible job as a telemarketer. Her cheater, loser soon to be ex-husband has pretty much beaten down any sense of self-esteem she once possessed. Her well meaning but overbearing mother has only added to the problem. Bear her Bad Luck Club sponsor challenges Dee to be more assertive and stand up to both her mother and her ex. Since Dee has failed at every challenge he has given her to do so he tries an end around by challenging her to do something that breaks the rules. Her BFF (also going through a divorce) talks her into crashing a wedding at Buchannon Brewery. The wedding happens to be that of Georgie and River two of the owners of the brewery and this series first couple to fall in love. Working as a bartender/security for the wedding is Dylan a 30 year old Massachusetts transplant who came to Ashville to get a fresh start after a divorce and a stint in the Marines that was ended when he was wounded in action. Dylan catches Dee and her friend trying to crash the wedding. But he's so attracted to her that instead of kicking her out he approaches her and they more or less seduce one another. Which leads to a night and morning sex-marathon. While Dylan is pretty open with Dee she keeps most of the facts about her personal life to herself. She can't believe this hot seven years younger bartender is interested in her even for a one-night stand. She feels with their age difference, her being a single-mom who can't have any more children and the general dumpster fire that is her life there's no future for them beyond one night of the best sex of her life. So while Dylan is busy the next morning talking to his family she leaves him a goodbye note and slips out of his apartment without a goodbye. But with the help of the mystical Dottie this won't be the end of their brief love story. While Dee never really seems to become assertive in this story she does finally come to believe she's worthy of Dylan's love.

First off let me make make sure that everyone knows this is a novella, but that doesn't mean it's any less great! This book is the perfect book to tie together the Asheville Brewing series and the soon to be released Bad Luck Club series. The story of Dee (current member of the bad luck club) and Dylan (a Buchanan brewery employee) is a take on a modern day Cinderella story. With the help of her friend Sam, Dee decides to crash the wedding of River and Georgie in order to be able to fulfill her bad luck club mission. What Dee did not expect to find was the sexy bartender who turns her world upside down! Oh and if you're familiar with the Asheville Brewery series, don't worry! Dottie and her crazy antics make a return in this book along with everyone's favorite goat lady, Stella.

That description doesn't have you hooked yet? Well how about a few teeny tiny excerpt from the book itself (I promise that they're not any major spoilers)? "He covered it up, although he had to DoorDash condoms this morning from CVS." "...Lurch and Josie ended up on a Pikachu-themed ship that only stopped at two ports in the Caribbean for forty-five minutes each..." "But I'm pretty sure sure Ollie was right, and I was painted onto a goat's body." This book had me swooning for Dylan and Dee and laughing at all the crazy things that happen in Asheville. What happens in Asheville....doesn't always stay in Asheville when it's being put in a book. ;)

If you haven't read the Asheville Brewing series yet go read that first! (While this book is a standalone, I highly recommend reading the Asheville series first.) If you're looking for a sweet and sexy romance where the heroine is not a 20-something year old, this book is for you! I can't wait to read the new Bad Luck Club series! (I just hope that Dottie continues to make her crazy antics known!)

Only in Ashville!

Only in Ashville, well at least only in the Ashville created by Denise Grover Swank and A.R. Casella, will you find goats crashing a wedding uninvited, causing havoc and oh, was that a bridesmaid's dress on fire?! How about crashing a wedding on a dare being caught by the hunkiest bouncer/bartender you have ever met and taking him home to have your way with him? Again only in Ashville can you meet some of the quirkiest, loveable characters, ever encountered in the pages of a book!
I have loved every novel in the Ashville Brewery series by Ms. Swank and Ms. Casella. Luck of the Draw, is a spin-off from the Brewery series, involving support characters from the Bad Luck Club that readers met in the final books of the series. It is a laugh a minute rom-com that will keep you glued to your Kindle until the very last page. The characters are guaranteed to capture your heart and soul. You too will be ready to plan your next vacation to Ashville, not only to take in the brewery scene, but also in hopes of meeting up with the gang from Buchanan Brewery and the Bad Luck club!
If you haven't read Denise Grover Swank and A.R. Casella`s Ashville Brewery series, do so before reading Luck of the Draw. The book will be even more of a delight once you have read the rest of the stories. Luck of the Draw, is an entertaining read, that can be finished during breaks in your 4th of July celebration preparation. Read it and become a fan of Swank and Casella as I and many others have already done!

Nice reset to the Asheville Brewery world. This is the first book that features someone other than the main Buchanan siblings, but the transition to a new character was seamless. There is enough backstory throughout the book that you wouldn't have had to read the previous Asheville Brewery series to know what’s going on, but it only enhances the book to have read them.

I say this is a nice reset because Luck of the draw is written in first person. A nice change from the third person the previous books were written in. The plot and story line also flowed much better and the writing was more consistent than the previous books. Altho, this is only a novella, it still packs a punch of humor, crazy antics and heart with maybe a little more heat.

I really liked Dee. She was down to earth and felt realistic and relatable. It’s nice to see her taking back charge of a life that’s been flipped upside down. Dylan is swoony and sweet with a big heart for his family. He is also on a path to get his life figured out, but he’s a few steps ahead of Dee in the process. Together they have great chemistry that was off the charts!

I look forward to new books in this series if these co-authors keep up the consistency and first person perspective.

I loved what the authors did here. Instead of ending the Asheville Brewing series when all the siblings are married, they gave us Luck of the Draw as a bridge between Asheville Brewing and the next stories involving the Bad Luck Club. Dee was so sweet in Blue's book and it was so very satisfying to see her get to live out her own Cinderella story that includes shoes. All through this enjoyable story, there are elements from the Bad Luck Club along with Asheville Brewing. Dottie, our mystical fairy godmother (really she's been that in all the books) continues to charm and manage to be one step ahead. She helps Dylan and Dee get beyond their own misgivings and helps them to see themselves and each other as they really are. All the characters in this book are delightful as usual and the story leaves you with a smile on your face. You cannot go wrong with any of the books in this series and this one is no exception. It is filled with humorous situations and laugh-out-loud moments involving goats, portrait painting, and a couple of mishaps at a wedding. All in all, you cannot go wrong with this book.

Luck of the Draw is the 5th installment of the Asheville Brewing Series, but it is better able to be a stand alone than the others since it isn't following the Buchanan siblings. Dee is a member of the Bad Luck Club and has the challenge of doing something that breaks the rules. She and her best friend Sam are both going through divorces and trying to find themselves again. Sam has been much more free spirited than Dee and is encouraging her to fulfill her challenge - and gives her a surprise makeover. While crashing a wedding, Dee is caught by Dylan, the hot bartender who recently moved to Asheville. He gets her (borrowed) high heels when she runs and Dottie, who we know from the previous books, works her magic and helps them both with little nudges. This book spanned a much shorter time frame than the previous ones and has less plot than the others, but I still really enjoyed it. I love the community the authors are creating and am really glad they're continuing the series outside of the siblings. Dottie has always been one of my favorite characters and I like that her nudges aren't limited to her family so she's still popping up.

Luck of the Draw is a really good Rom-Com, with some great laugh-out-loud moments. 80-year-old Dottie stole the show, we all could do with someone like her in our lives, steering us in the right direction, even when we don't think we need it. Dee at 38 is going through a divorce and has joined The Bad Luck Club, the club in which they give you challenges which hopefully will help change your life. For Dee she has one week left to do something spontaneous, not something that Dee is comfortable with, a mother of 2 boys, one 10 and one 13, she doesn't have much time for anything other than trying to keep a roof over their heads and trying to find a better job.

Well, that's all about change when Dee's best friend comes up with the perfect idea. What could go wrong? Dylan at 30 and after leaving the military stumbled across Asheville and upon meeting Dottie never left. A chance meeting between Dee and Dylan has an instant attraction but, misunderstandings seem to keep getting in the way. Let's hope good ole Dottie can sort it out.

Dylan and Deeandra - a sweet novella

This novella is book 5 in the Asheville Brewery series set in Asheville, North Carolina. It is a sweet story of friendship, family, quirky characters, misunderstandings, and love. Deeandra is a 38 yo divorced mother of two. She’s a member of the Bad Luck Club and her current challenge was to do something that broke the rules. Her best friend arranges for them to crash a wedding. Dylan is a 30 yo bartender at Asheville Brewery and a recent transplant to Asheville. Dylan catches Deeandra crashing the wedding and the sparks fly and they have a one night stand. But they both wish it could be more. This book has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, sexy times, real life issues, imperfect characters, laugh out loud moments, and so much love. I especially like when real issues - - like divorces, infertility, and finances - are included in romances, it makes for more three dimensional characters and more well rounded storylines. This novella is a sweet romance full of lovable characters with just a touch of angst.

Breaking the rules never felt so right! This novella from the Asheville Brewing series focuses on the relationship between Dee and Dylan. Dee, a member of The Bad Luck Club, has been challenged to break the rules and take a chance. She is a recently divorced mom of two whose favorite activity is watching HGTV. Her best friend tricks her into crashing a wedding to fulfill her challenge. Dee meets Dylan, the bartender, and she finds the confidence that she had been lacking. I absolutely love the dynamic between Dee and Dylan. Dee is older than Dylan and has some insecurities so she struggles with believing that Dylan can really be interested. Their relationship is hot and honest. Again, I love that the authors have included Dottie, Stella, and the Buchanan family. I cannot wait to read more about them in the next book in the series. Five stars! I would definitely recommend.

Luck of the Draw is Book #5 in the Asheville Brewing Series and a sweet little romance that I fell in love with.

Dee is a down on her luck, newly separated woman with kids. Her husband, who has shamed her and put her down for years, cheated and left her for the other woman. Feeling worthless and alone, Dee struggles every day to keep going.

Dylan feels like he is letting his entire family down by not working in the family business. He is divorced, newly out of the Marines and needs a change, so he moves to Asheville for a fresh start. He takes a job as a bartender at the Buchanan Brewery and quickly learns that Only in Asheville...

When Dylan catches Dee sneaking in where she is not supposed to be, things take a strange and funny turn which is normal in this crazy little town. This is a comical, nutty romance with second chances and lots of craziness to go around. It you're ready for a light hearted easy read, this is the book for you.

After a painful marriage Dee is hoping with the help of the Bad Luck Club she will reclaim the woman she used to be as she tries to balance being a single mother and working in a torturous job. In order to maintain her member in the club she needs to go outside her comfort zone where she finds herself a guest at a wedding she wasn’t invited to.

Facing a crossroads in his life both personally and professionally Dylan finds himself in Ashville tending bar. He didn’t think he would have to double as a security guard to keep uninvited guests out of a wedding or that it just might be the best thing that could have happened to either one of them.

This is a fun and flirty romance that doesn’t disappoint. Dee is cautious because of her past and the fact that he is younger than her, but Dylan is determined to show her that the choices they have made previously where to get them to this point.

Buchanan Brewery is one of my favorite series and I am so excited for these new installments and introductions to new characters. And Luck of the Draw absolutely did not disappoint!

I love that the main characters aren’t your typical rom-com love interests. Dee is a single mom in her late 30’s and Dylan is a hunk of a 30-year-old. There’s an age and life gap and yet there’s still this beautiful fairy tale that unfolds. The modern nod to Cinderella is one of my favorite aspects of the story!

Of course we get glimpses, though small, of our favorite characters from the original series (though this is absolutely a stand alone book, no need to read the previous books but you should ). And I adore Dee’s BFF Sam and can only hope we see more of her in the future!

Finally, the book wraps up with a surprise announcement from Dottie that you are not going to want to miss! I am ecstatic to see how this plays out in future books!

A+++ seriously wonderful story!

Another great read. No surprise there.
Dee is divorced mother of 2, that needs some excitement in her life. With the help of her best friend she finds it by crashing a wedding. Problem is she doesn't know if she is ready for what she finds at said wedding!!
I was concerned when first starting this book due to not recognizing the character names. I continued anyways, and am very glad I did. Familiar faces started popping up while still introducing new main characters as well. This book helped wrap up a few loose ends, and tie everything together nicely in the end. Can definitely be read as a stand alone book. But why would anyone want to this series is amazing and definitely worth a read from the beginning. It has humor, romance, with just a hint of screaming at the book "What are you doing?" drama!!

Luck of the Draw by Denise Grover Swank and A.R. Casella is the first book that I've read in their Asheville Brewing series and I really enjoyed reading it. I didn't find that I was confused or didn't know what was going on, which can happen with picking up mid series sometimes. I also just thoroughly enjoyed the comedy of this story.
Soon to be divorced single mom, Deanna, is having a rough time. First her husband leaves her for his pregnant mistress, and she had to get a low paying job at as a telemarketer after being a homemaker since her kids were born and she's struggling to afford her house. So when her ex has her kids for the weekend she reluctantly accepts the challenge from her Bad Luck Club... Crash a wedding. At said wedding she meets the young, hot, bartender Dylan. What starts as what is supposed to be a one time thing soon evolves into something more that Dee isn't sure she is ready for so soon after the disastrous end to her marriage...

Age gap romance (he's 30 she's 37) - Dee is a single mum to two boys. Trying hard at life to keep her head above water but everything is a slog. When the Bad Luck Club issues a dare, she ends up crashing a wedding and falling for the hot bartender. Then goes running the next day as she really doesn't believe she has anything worth offering to him.

Dee's one of life's troopers and I think some people might see some of their own qualities in her - after all I don't think on a whole we as women are great at championing ourselves but we are quick to point out our own failings.

Dylan was great - and I loved the scenes with him and Dottie as well as when he was with Dee.
I've really enjoyed all of these. I know there is another spin off (Bad Luck Club) so will have to dig into those in the future.

I love coming back to Asheville for a visit. This is one of my favorite series. You can read each of these books as a stand alone, but they are so much better together. I was sad when I thought the four Buchanan siblings had found love, that it was going to end. Luckily for me, there are still people who find their way to Asheville at the right time. Dee and Dylan are two amazing individuals who had learned to deal with life's struggles with the help of the amazing people in Asheville. Bear and Dottie seem to be the best support system a person could ask for. I wish I had them in my life.

When you are challenged to break the rules, you never know what might happen. This book was a hoot. Whether it's the crazy goats or stolen jerseys. I love how seamless these books are. I know the authors take turns writing chapters, but it's so well written you can't even tell it's more than one person writing the book. I look forward to reading more books about Asheville in the future.

If you haven't checked out this series, check them out. You won't be disappointed.

This might be my favorite story from the entire series. I really loved Dee and Dylan. Although I’m usually not a fan of insta-love, I thought that this story was incredibly sweet, and Dylan is super swoon-worthy. I really enjoyed the relationship he had with his family, and it just made me love him more. I also liked that Dee was a bit older than him. It was a nice switch-up. It was great to visit some of the characters we know and love, like Dottie, and I’m excited for her and her new venture. I also was happy to see there was a bit more steam in this story than in the prior Buchanan Brewery books, but it was still relatively mild in comparison to many romance novels. All in all, another great entry in the Buchanan Brewery world. Looking forward to the next!

I think out of all the stories from Asheville, this one is my favorite.
I absolutely LOVED Dee and Dylan!
Dee is a member of the Bad Luck Club who is completing a challenge to “do something that breaks some rules.”
Her friend Sam talks her into crashing a wedding to complete this challenge.
It happens to be a wedding Dylan is working at and they meet.
It is a kind of instalove connection, but it’s written so cute, I can’t help but love it.
There are a few things that happen. It nothing big and the misunderstandings are cleared fairly quickly.
The main characters are pretty sensible with some baggage and I love how this turned out. I’m only wish this was a longer novel!!! I’d love to read more about where these two land and how they got there.
I definitely recommend this book!!

Wedding crashing 101

The first rule of crashing a wedding is to know whose wedding you’re crashing… preferably someone you don’t know so things don’t get awkward. When The Bad Luck Club issued Dee a challenge to be a rule breaker, she and her friend Sam crashed a wedding…River and Georgie’s wedding. Even though they got caught by the hot bartender, that didn’t stop them from crashing a second time. But fate was on hand (as well as Dottie) to bring Dee and Dylan (aka hot bartender) together for a scorching night of sex and a side order of feelings. Those Buchanan’s sure know how to throw a party where who knows what will happen when the eccentric and eclectic people get together.

This is book five in the Asheville Brewing Series, but for the most part you do not have much action from all the other characters from the first four books. Which is understandable considering they now have found love and are heading down their roads to happily ever after.

This book does have some classic Dottie working her magic on a new pair of people. A new face by the name of Dylan comes into play on this sweet twist of the ole’ Cinderella story. Dee from the Bad Luck Club is filling that role and she did it fabulously. The fates pull the two of them into the same place at the same time and like with all things Dottie related…something magical takes place. But the question is can these two make it past a one night stand when both are just learning to fly again after some hard times. Giggles are of course part of this book along with some fast paced romance. Perfect addition to the series.
