This was a marvelous and engaging novel, a great escape for a few hours as I was intrigued. I didn't want to put it down for I was curious who was behind the situation. This was a first for me by this author as I certainly I won't mind reading more by her!...I liked the faith elements and spiritual aspects. I learned a bit more about police procedures and forensics etc as with the comment that every detail matters, a single statement could make an officer realize there was more happening or another involved.... as we can always learn more; fiction or not! Don't mind recommending this author. She is a fellow Canadian too which is neat :)

Disclosure; I received this book as a part of a giveaway so was not obligated to review nor provide a positive one, but I didn't mind doing so whatsoever!

This is my first read by this author. I am so glad I read it as I really enjoyed it.
A serial killer is on the loose terrorizing a neighborhood, targeting women that have a certain look.
Sure that one of his intended victims can identify him he's out to get her. But will she be able to identify him and get away because he is never more than a step behind her.
As soon as you take a breath there is more action happening in this book. If you love a wild chase and edge of your seat action you're going to love this one just like did!

If you enjoy suspense, you will love this latest book from Darlene L. Turner. She hits the ground running and the action doesn’t let up until the very last page. Not counting the epilogue. Turner has created an ingenious serial killer who is always one step ahead of law enforcement and will stop at nothing to accomplish his goals as he terrorizes a community. Well done!

My thanks to the publisher and author for a copy of this book. The opinion in this review is my own.

Fatal Forensic Investigation by Darlene Turner reads like you are watching an episode of Criminal Minds! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading and desperately trying to figure out who the serial killer/s was, if it was more than one person, why they were killing women, and who was going to be next. Where was Morgan, Garcia, and the rest of the team when I needed them? Lol.

The serial killer/s in this story played such a cat and mouse game! I was so spooked and I tried to refrain from reading this story before bed because it was so realistic and so creepy, but it was just too good! I loved Scarlet and Jace and the dynamic of their relationship. The faith thread was seamlessly woven throughout. The following is one of my favorite quotes -

“God knows what he’s doing, so we trust. Completely.”

Such a good reminder when we start to wonder why.

Darlene Turner knows how to write excellent suspense and I can’t wait for her next story!

Wow! Author Darlene L. Turner has written an action-filled, danger-ridden story that kept me turning the pages to learn what would happen next. Imagine losing your memory and then becoming the target of a killer that only you can describe! This is Scarlet Well's predicament as she and her protector work to unlock the secrets locked in her memory. Will the serial killer continue to claim more victims? Can Jase Allen keep Scarlet safe until she remembers?

Turner once again proves her ability to write books that I can't put down. She made me care for her characters, she left me digging for clues, and she succeeded in keeping me in the dark until the very end. Lethal Forensic Investigation is romantic suspense at its best!

I received a copy of this book from the author. There was no obligation for a favorable review. These are my own thoughts.

Darlene Turner’s latest novel, Fatal Forensic Investigation, had me on the edge of my proverbial seat as I read about forensic artist Scarlet Wells and constable Jace Allen. Scarlet Wells bears her own scars, and she pours herself into her work. And she’s good at it. As she interviews the only surviving victim of the Coastline Strangler and sketches his likeness, she is attacked and left with amnesia. She tries to draw forth the memory of her drawing, which was destroyed in her attack.

Jace Allen, a single father, and instinctive protector, is determined to catch the Coastline Strangler, who has taken the lives of many women in a small Canadian seaside community. When he discovers Scarlet is the next target, he’s determined to keep her safe. But the Coastline Stranger always seems to stay a couple steps ahead of the constables.

This story has lots of twists and turns which kept me guessing as to who it was! And Coral Bay was a character in itself. Turner painted a realistic, friendly community that made me want to visit.

The blooming romance between Jace and Scarlet was sweet and realistic. The themes in this story are second chances and learning to trust after being hurt were written in a way that was realistic and invited God into the journey.

This book is perfect for those who enjoy suspense-filled, keep-you-guessing stories.

Thank you to the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book. All opinions are my own.

Constable Scarlet Wells is a forensic artist who was brought over from nearby Whitehorse, Yukon Constable by Jace Allen in order to speak with SLS'S only surviving victim and to, hopefully completing
the picture of him by the end of the day. The Coastline Strangler has killed too many women but this time he left a victim. Constable Jace Allen put in a request for Scarlet to assist them in this case. There was one victim, who needed to have a softer touch in order for her to feel safe while in their custody. That was why Jace requested Scarlet, her way with people and artistic talent makes for a wonderful combination. But he was not sure how she would feel because they had not seen one another since the academy and they left on rocky terms.
While at the hospital interviewing Lila, they kept her survival and location unknown, CLS made his way through the hospital (wearing a mask) to Lila's room and shot Scarlet with a tranq gun and proceeded to kill Lila. When Scarlet awoke, Jace was standing over her calling her name. She sat up slowly and then a realization hit her as she was being asked questions, she had no idea who she was or who anyone else was. This was not good as she had a feeling a lot rode on when she regained her memory.
Both Jace and Scarlet were going to get a lesson by the Lord on patience and forgiveness and ultimately love. Will they be able to receive it? The lesson and the love?
Thank you, Darlene Turner, this was a great story and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Thank you for letting me be a part of your launch team.

FATAL FORENSIC INVESTIGATION by Darlene L. Turner is the first book in the Crisis Rescue Team series. It’s the page-turning, high adrenaline story of Constable Scarlet Well - forensic artist, as she works alongside Coral Bay police officer Jace Allen - a friend from college, as they attempt to hunt down and capture the Coastline Strangler – also known as CLS, before he strikes again.

Scarlet is on loan from the Vancouver Island’s major crime task force from Whitehorse, Yukon after a request from the Coral Bay, British Columbia that needed her specialized skills to help in the CLS case. Meeting in the hospital with the latest and only victim not to have died from their attack, Scarlet had just finished up on a sketch to help in the investigation when she is attacked, rendered unconscious, the witness murdered and the sketch destroyed. Seems that the CLS didn’t want any lose ends hanging around. As a result of the attack, Scarlet is left with amnesia - unable to not only remember facts about the case, but also who she is or any details on her past. Her memory of the Coastline Strangler’s descriptive details is essential to his capture. Will she remember them in time?

Jace is ashamed of the time in the past with Scarlet back in college. He can see now how arrogant he was, but he’s not that man now. Life events, having God in his life, and his sweet son Charlie changed him – for the better. He just hopes Scarlet will give him a chance to show her the new man he’s become. After the attack, he’s determined to help her regain her memory (even the bad ones of him) and to keep her safe. He knows her life will be in jeopardy because she’s see the Coastline Strangler and he doesn’t know she has amnesia. Even with the passing years, there are still sparks and that tug on his heart when he is around her. After the betrayal of his ex-wife, he’s not ready to allow any woman into his heart – is he?

With each new murder, the urgency to find this criminal intensifies. When a dear pregnant friend of Jace’s is snatched, they know their time to find her alive is limited. When threats are directed at Scarlet’s family and Jace’s son, it becomes essential that he be stopped. Scarlet may not remember her past or her sister, but she can sense that the bond is strong. After feeling responsible for the tragic death of a childhood friend, she just can’t think about being the cause of someone else dying. Jace lived through having been abducted as a child and the thoughts of it happening to his own son are unbearable. Will their intense fears have them finding answers or making mistakes?

How is the CLS able to stay up with them and at times seemingly a step ahead of them? Is there a leak within the department? Will recovery of her memory have Scarlet pulling away from Jace or will their time together draw them together regardless of the past? Will their faith in God be shaken or will their faith eventually prove to them that God’s got things under control? Can they find Violet before she becomes one of the victims of the Coastline Strangler? Can they find Charlie or will Jace’s worse nightmare become a reality?

FATAL FORENSIC INVESTIGATION is an exciting book that draws you in with its wonderful cover that eludes to mystery. Then when you open the book, it keeps you quickly reading this riveting story of danger, suspense, intrigue, murder, horrific past flashbacks, reminders to have faith, learning to forgive – both others and yourself, and rekindled romance. Darlene L. Turner has done it again! She’s been able to pack quite the punch in between the front and back covers that will have you feeling all the emotions of Scarlet and Jace, from fear to love. You be rooting for sweet romance to rekindle before your very eyes as she weaving a thread of faith throughout the story. A fabulous start to a new series and definitely worthy of my FIVE STARS!

Fatal Forensic Investigation is Darlene L. Turner’s latest thriller. It’s the start of her new Crisis Rescue Team series. After reading this one, I can’t wait for the next one. If you are looking for a book that is non-stop action then this is for you. There’s never a dull moment. It starts from the first page and continues to the last. Jace Allan is one of the lead investigators in Coral Bay’s serial killer known as Coastline Strangler or CSL as everyone calls him. His latest victim somehow escaped and Jace Allan needs former college classmate Forensic artist Scarlett Wells to create a sketch of what CSL looks like. Scarlett and Lila are attacked and Lila is killed. Scarlett manages to survive only to wake up to realize she has lost all her memories. Can she recover her memories and discover CSL’s identity before he kills again? The odds are against her and the Coral Bay Police as CSL sets his sights on Scarlett, Jace, and the whole team. It’s a non-stop wild ride and I hope you get on.
I really was on the edge of my seat reading this book. It never let you put your guard down for one moment. My friend and I were talking about it after we had both read it and she had said, Scarlett and Jace can’t even catch their breath. I agree. Every step the team takes in the right direction, CSL is 3 steps ahead. It was intense. The only thing that gave them a moment of peace was God. I loved how even though Scarlett had no idea if she believed in God (she had lost all her memories), she still relied on faith and prayed to Him during the story. It was real and authentic how she tried to figure out if she was a believer. Jace and Scarlett both had secrets and shames that they needed to overcome before they could even begin to establish a relationship. Scarlett losing her memories allowed her to form opinions of the Jace of today and not be shaded by memories of the Jace of yesteryear. Even though this was a suspense book with a whodunnit mystery, Darlene L. Turner really developed her characters. It was nice to see their growth while they figured out who was the serial murderer. The best part is…it had an EPILOGUE! You know how I love epilogues. So rest assured, you get to find out what the future holds for this wonderful couple!
I was given a copy to read, but all opinions are my very own!

“Did she want to remember? For some reason, the pencil seemed like home, but it also brought a paralyzing sense of sadness and pain.”

Darlene L Turner’s Fatal Forensic Investigation is a unique romantic suspense for me. Great action, constant danger and tension are present, as one would expect, but I loved the amnesia aspect, which I think is more unusual. It plagues forensic artist Scarlet Wells and renders her less than her usual capable self.

We get the backstory of Scarlet’s childhood tragedy in bits and pieces, which keeps the reader wondering. Sometimes, it takes bravery, to allow the mind to remember.

Another point that caused me much wondering, to my terrified delight, was that we begin to realize that SOMEBODY from the small community is, in fact, the Coastline Strangler (CLS). How fun as a reader to wade through each new person, examining each as a possible suspect, trying to figure out the villain before the CLS is finally exposed! Just like Jace Allen and Scarlet, we wonder if we’re trusting the wrong people.

There are extra romantic interests- hmmm… That always makes investigations sticky, awkward, and uncertain. And provides red herrings or paths to truth.

I liked how comforting Bible verses were brought to mind from memory, sometimes from childhood. God works that way, using His Holy Spirit to remind us of His Truth when we most need it.

A child in the center of the story is a sure way to grab my attention. Such innocence having to face such evil. Can Jace and Scarlet unravel who is ultimately behind this incredible string of murders? Or will their names be added to the victim list?

I received a copy of this book from the author as part of her launch team. Being a member does not guarantee a positive review, and all thoughts and opinions are mine alone.

“God, how can I trust You when You keep allowing such heartache?”

“God knows what He’s doing, so we trust. Completely.” What a sense of calm that gives, if we truly believe!

Fatal Forensic Investigation is the first book I've read by Author Darlene Turner and it is a page turner! Law enforcement (with outside help from a forensic artist) is trying to get a handle on a serial killer who is always one step ahead of them. Many awful things happen during this investigation that test the faith of the main characters.

I loved the storyline and the fact that I could not stop turning pages! There were just two things that took away from the story for me; some of the unprofessional comments between the professionals in the story, and it was a bit more emotionally driven in certain spots than I usually like. Obviously reading books is a subjective business, so please take my opinions with a grain of salt, they are just one opinion. I did really like the storyline, it is a good who-dun-it mystery, and you just can't stop turning pages to see how they figure out how to stop the villian.

Thank you so much to the author for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own.

Fatal Forensic Investigation by Darlene L. Turner is the first book in her Crisis Response Team series. In this introduction to the series we meet forensic artist Scarlet Wells who is injured and loses her memory but is still determined to carry on with her job. Then there's Constable Jace Allen who is part of a task force that has been formed to find and stop the serial killer referred to as the Coastal Strangler. Jace also had a relationship with Scarlet in college which Scarlet doesn't remember when they meet because of her amnesia. I really like these characters and how their belief in God heals them and enhances their lives. This is an action-packed suspense story with great tension and pacing. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

As Scarlet Wells finishes the artistic rendition of the face of the Coastline Strangler described by the only survivor, he bursts into the hospital room, shoots the two women, and destroys the drawing. His shot grazes Scarlet's head, giving her amnesia. Jace Allen, Scarlet's former college boyfriend and a constable on the local police force, insists that Scarlet, on loan to Vancouver from Yukon, stay on the police task force until the murderer is caught. The CLS escalates his attacks against women and against the task force. He seems to have some connection to the police as he remains one step ahead of them.

The fast-paced story keeps you turning pages. It's an easy read for an evening or two after a busy day. This format makes the character development rushed, but it's fun to try to pick out the bad guy and figure how he's getting the information, almost before the police do.

Fatal Forensic Investigation
Darlene L. Turner

From the very beginning to the end you are on a roller coaster ride that just doesn’t stop for you to take a breath! Jace and Scarlet can’t figure out how the serial killer always seems to be one step ahead of the task force and able to attack them and get away. As the body count adds up will they be able to stop him before Scarlett gets her memory back or will that keep them from solving it? A very fast paced, intense reads that has you on pins and needles until the very end.

Thank you to Darlene Turner for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily! Wow! If I was a nail biter I would have no nails left!! This one is a high octane ride! Constable Scarlett Wells is a forensic artist who, unfortunately due to a near fatal attack, has amnesia. Constable Jace Allen had a painful breakup in his past which has clouded his view of women in general. They are quite the pair! However, they must work together to find a serial killer known as the Coastline Strangler (better know as the CLS). CLS is terrorizing the small coastal town of Coral Bay on Vancouver Island. The chase is quite literally on from the first chapter.

I read this book in one sitting. I feel as if I have ran a marathon. Action packed is not even a good enough description for this suspenseful book. Riveting suspense and intrigue will keep you glued to your seat!

There is also a wonderful inspirational message of forgiveness and learning to lean on your faith. It is good, clean mystery that will leave you amped up! This might be my favorite book by Darlene Turner! Homerun for Darlene Turner! Keep the good work!

Fatal Forensic Investigation by Darlene L. Turner is a fast-paced romantic suspense from Love Inspired. This story was a little different from the author's other books because it followed the investigation of a serial killer. I enjoyed learning more about Scarlett's job, that of a Forensic artist, and all the skills she used to help the team search for the perpetrator. However, Scarlet and the team are constantly in danger and one step behind the killer who is bent on causing as much damage as possible. The level of danger is pulse-pounding as the team and the small community is threatened by the madman. I felt like the pace was perfect and kept me turning pages as the investigation developed. It was an amazing whodunit, and I loved collecting clues a page at a time. The romance was just right in this story, developing the characters while blending with the action. Overall, like all of Darlene's books, this is a great romantic suspense! And it would be a great, quick summer read--perfect for the beach!

I have read several books by Darlene L. Turner and so I was excited to read this one! The blurb for this book also drew me in. The suspense starts from the very beginning and keeps you interested until the very end. The romance for me definitely took a back seat in this particular plot which is not a bad thing since the novel is in the suspense category. There were several characters in this book that raised my suspicions. This was definitely a difficult puzzle to try to figure out. It had me stumped. I highly recommend this book to those who like suspense with a little bit of romance.

I received this book as a gift from the author, Darlene Turner with no expectation of a review good or bad. This review is my opinion of the book alone.
From the first page this book caught my attention. Constable Forensic Artist Scarlett Wells was brought into interview the only surviving victim of the Coastline Strangler as she was recovering in hospital. Scarlett had just finished sketching Lila's description of the killer when the fire alarm sounded. Scarlett left the victim and went to the nurse's station to see if the alarm was real or not. As she was turning around a masked medical person passed her and she saw his eyes, the eyes of the killer she just finished drawing. She ran back to Lila's room where the killer was finishing his job of killing her. The killer attacked Scarlett and tried to strangle her as well but instead in the struggle knocked her over where she hit her head and as she was losing consciousness saw him take her sketch, tear it out of her book and set fire to it in the trash can. When she woke she was being treated but could not remember anything. She had amnesia.
This book just keep getting more suspenseful as so much happened to other victims and the attacks on Scarlett ramped up. Constable Jace Allen who knew Scarlett in college was assigned to work with her and protect her.
Amnesia hindrances, the murder of more girls as well as the police chief and other officers just add to this suspense and challenges in this book. It was a real nail biter for me and I couldn't put it down.
There is so much more I could say but no spoilers here.
Couldn't put it down. Captured me quickly and just when I thought I had it figured out more surprises popped up in the equations. I highly recommend this book. Get it. Read it. You won't be disappointed
Darlene Turner you write amazing books. Can't wait to read the next one. This one teaches faith and preserverance and trusting God in the midst of your greatest fears.

Fatal Forensic Investigation, by Darling L. Turner is a romantic, suspenseful, action packed read. I could not put it down - I was afraid I was going to miss something. LOL
Constable Scarlett Wells is a forensic artist, who is asked by Constable Jace Allen of the Coral Bay PD to help get the sketch of a serial killer on the loose. She doesn't know he had the chief ask for her specifically. The only living survivor from one of the killer attacks, is being questioned by Scarlett. She is using the info sketching, when she is also attacked. As a result, amnesia is holding her back so that she can help catch the killer by finishing the sketch. She knows that she is developing feelings for Jace too and is concerned. Jace is having flashbacks of their college days, he knows his feelings for her have resurfaced.
This case is testing Jason's faith in God, because the killer seems to always be a few steps ahead of them. Scarlet is wanting her memory to return. She thinks she should pray about it, just doesn't remember if she believed.
They all just wished the team could catch a break.
Scarlett and Jace keep questioning why ... If God is listening that their faith is being tested! Is God hearing them ? As I'm reading this book one statement of mine keeps popping up. I say this when I'm asked how I handle the test put on me. I say, " There is no work in heaven, the work is all here on earth, "
The last thing Scarlett is thinking as the book ends - she wants to thank God for shaping her into the woman she's meant to be ... A sculpted work of the Father.
Darlene L. Turner reminds us on the pages of this book that, His truth will be the shield and buckler - Psalm 91:4 . We put our full armor on daily and never put on a black plate, because whichever way we turn the Father has our backs.
I received this book as a complementary copy with no expectations of a review. All opinions are if my own free will.

It’s a pedal-to-the-metal adrenaline rush in Darlene L. Turner’s newest suspense, Fatal Forensic Investigation.
Someone, dubbed the Coastline Strangler (CLS) is killing women on Vancouver Island, and Constable Jace Allen is part of the team determined to take him - or her - down. One victim manages to survive, and Jace calls in Scarlet Wells, a well-respected forensic artist (and former college friend), to connect with the young woman and get an image of her attacker. During the hospital interview, Scarlet and Lila are attacked and left for dead. Sadly, Lila doesn’t make it. Scarlet survives, but can’t recall anything about the attack - or any part of her life. She’s got amnesia.
CLS isn’t taking any chances, however, and is intent on silencing Scarlet before her memory returns. Nothing, and no one, will get in the way. It’s a race against the clock to find and apprehend CLS, who always seems to be one step ahead of the police. How?
Can Scarlett help catch a killer when she can’t even remember her life? Can Jace stay focused on the case while both remembering the feelings he had for Scarlet those years ago, and trying to keep his own son safe? Jase has a secret of his own childhood, too. Can both Jase and Scarlet trust the Lord to help them catch the killer, and bring safety and security back to the community of Vancouver Island?
I love how the bottom line was trusting God and turning to prayer at all times. Scarlet couldn’t even remember if she was a believer before the attack, but throughout the investigation she turned to the Lord. It felt RIGHT. (PS, this book has an epilogue! If you know me, you know I LOVE epilogues!)
I can’t wait for the second book in this new Crisis Rescue Team series. I am buckled up and ready for the next wild ride!
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but my review/opinion is entirely my own.

Scarlet is a forensic artist who has been brought in to sketch a picture of a serial killer based on a witness description. During the interview Scarlet and the witness are attacked and Scarlet receives a head injury which causes her to lose her memory. However the killer does not know that Scarlet is dealing with amnesia and has no memory of seeing them, so the killer set their sights on getting rid of Scarlet so she cannot identify them. How scary for Scarlett knowing someone is after her but having no idea what that person looks like. This story is action packed and kept me on the edge of my seat. So much happens and so many innocent people die. I quickly became invested in the plot and the characters. I enjoyed the way it progressed and keep me suspicious of everyone. I enjoyed following along with the police trying to figure out how it seemed the killer was always one step ahead of them. I had suspicions of who was responsible but I ended up being surprised by the final reveal. The suspense and the case took centre stage for the story with the budding romance in the background. Highly recommend.
