Edwyn and Virginia are in love. But, after stopping at a backwater town run by a ruthless businessman, disaster strikes when Virginia is captured and held hostage so that Edwyn is forced to do terrible things to get her back safe. Except, what no-one in this town realises until it’s too late, is that Edwyn is a former government spook-gone-rogue with mad skills - who is also completely mad. And he’ll stop at nothing to get back the love of his life. Also, Virginia is a plastic sex doll…
I quite liked Doug Wagner and Daniel Hillyard’s very dark and weird revenge story with a twist, Plastic. Broadly this is your average revenge story where the guy picks off the bad guys one by one, but it’s done well so I was never bored by it. It’s extremely graphic and violent so if blood and gore’s not your thing, be warned.
Edwyn is an interesting dude. He’s got a thing for plastic, he’s got a mysterious past, he talks to his invisible mom, and he drives around with a corpse in the passenger seat. At times he’s quite sweet and vulnerable, like he is with the teenage hitchhiker, and other times he’s a straight up animalistic serial killer!
What I was hoping for, and we didn’t get, was an explanation/flashback scene showing us why Edwyn was the way he was. He’s a former spook - but what happened? How did he go mad, why hasn't the agency stopped him, why is he obsessed with plastic and stale donuts? If there was more detail on his past, this would’ve been a much better book.
Edwyn is the only compelling character though. The boss character is your generic evil businessman character while the deputy character was cartoonishly evil. Wagner writes Edwyn in the same way that most main characters in revenge stories are written: unstoppable. So the story develops and ends predictably. It’s a fun journey though and Daniel Hillyard’s art is very pretty.
While it’s a fairly formulaic and straightforward revenge story that’s underwritten in places (ie. Edwyn’s past), Plastic is still an entertaining read executed effectively with great art and with enough different aspects to it to stand out from other stories from this genre. If you want to read Taken starring Norman Bates, give Plastic a shot!

Damn that was some twisted shit. And brilliant in its psychopathy and “execution.” Seriously, Plastic is a horrifically violent and expertly written page-turner thriller. Yet it’s also somehow romantic. And the artwork, coloring, and letters? To die for. Thanks to Image for the advance copy.

Once there was a retired serial killer and his sex doll, I mean girlfriend, Virginia. All they wanted was to be left alone. But when the local rich douche bag who runs the town kidnaps Virginia, Edwyn will do anything to get her back, including murder ever last one of them.
This is some seriously messed up, downright hilarious, cuckoo bananas shit. The art and coloring are very good. And if this story is any indication, this Doug Wagner guy is going places.

Slasher serial killer comics are not typically my jam, and this one isn't even perfect in the sub-genre of horror, but it kept my interest and made me smile, periodically. The concept is original, and the execution is good, with some decent writing in it. It features a guy, Edwyn Stoffgruppen, supposedly a "retired" serial killer traveling the country with his "girlfriend," that happens to be a sex doll. Okay, "her" name is Virginia. And so, yeah, it's that kind of horror/crime mashup of comedy and slasher violence, with a surprising touch of romance?
So Edwyn is into plastic Virginia, and all sorts of plastic, so that's a kind of "motif," such as it is. And donuts are part of the running joke throughout.

"The world's filled with people that don't always behave themselves."This story of an ex-serial killer on the hunt for his kidnapped inflatable girlfriend while trying to keep a lid on his urge to decapitate people is one of the strangest, most batshit nuts things I've read in a while. And it also turns out to be surprisingly gentle and heartfelt.

You have to know you're getting into some insane shit when the story is about a "RETIRED" serial Killer traveling the world with his plastic Girlfriend. No, like really, his girlfriend is a freaking plastic doll. I think might be a human body at one point? Looks like her head was swan on but it never really explains that.
So one night these assholes mess with Edwyn (the main character) and he royally fucks them up. After making quick work of them and injuring a major mafia boss's son the mafia comes to Edwyn and kidnaps him. Instead of killing him they need to use him to hurt others. When Edwyn sees this as the only way to get back his doll-girlfriend he agrees but we know that agreement isn't going to last very long.
Good: The art is great. I really love the style, it's slick, yet hits good. It's also cartoony enough where the murders don't feel to gruesome. The characters all play off well and I actually enjoyed Edwyn situation even if it's batshit insane. It's not that I like him, but I found him entertaining. That's the best you can hope for in a story about a killer. Also the ending was solid for what it could have been dumb.
Bad: The girl, no spoilers, who comes in later seems so badly implemented. Too much "willing" to do for a guy who goes and kills people in screwed up ways and talks to dolls. I get he saved her but still...just no. Also the story could have used 1-2 more issues to flush out some background on Edwyn to make him better.
Overall it was a good time. Not a amazing story but a solid fun enjoyable read for horror fans. The art is great, the story is good, and the main character is fun. I say try it out, you won't hate it! I don't think anyway... 3 out of 5.

This comic is not horrible but I’m not as amazed as many people seem to be.
What’s it about?
There’s a (former) serial killer who falls in love with a woman named Virginia... except Virginia isn’t a real woman, she’s actually a blow up doll. So Virginia gets taken by a group of criminals and the former killer is forced to kill again...
Pros:
The art is very good and everything is very well drawn.
There’s some good action and kills throughout which is one of the things I really hoped for.
The ending is a great end for a miniseries. Everything is wrapped up very nicely.
Cons:
The story isn’t nearly as good as I hoped.
The characters aren’t very interesting. There’s a generic psycho, nothing makes him different than other psychos you’ve seen in horror stories, at least nothing I noticed. His girlfriend/blow up doll literally just stands there and is uninteresting. I thought she’d be alive somehow or at least the killer would hallucinate and see her as a real woman which he does seem to... but the reader doesn’t get to see what kind of things he’s hallucinating. There’s also a pervy sheriff, a random hitchhiker, a corpse and a generic group of criminals. Nothing special here.
This book is pretty predictable. I had most of it figured out pretty early on except for a couple of things during the end.
This book tries to be funny but fails. It’s mostly just shock value and even though I often enjoy NSFW humor (I even think The Fix is the funniest comic of all time and I don’t think you’ll find many comics with humor that’s much more NSFW than the stuff there) this book tries too hard and seems to think edgy=funny which is not the case.
Maybe it’s just me but I’m underwhelmed by the not very weirdness of this book. A lot of people talk about how weird it is and maybe it’s just me (and in all fairness I read a lot of weird s***) but I thought it was just psycho does psycho stuff.
Overall:
This is not a terrible comic, I just ain’t a fan myself. It has some things I liked about it such as the art and some of the action however it fails to give a good story with interesting characters which honestly, is probably the most important thing when it comes to books. I hate to say it but I was definitely disappointed and underwhelmed.

August 1, 2018A fun, quick read. Reminded me a bit of Psycho, in that he’s talking to his dead mother. The fixation on plastic plays a minimal role in the tale, ultimately, but that’s not necessarily a problem.
It moves fast, especially when we’re introduced to our protagonist’s partners. I’m left wishing there were five more issues in here.
That’s my final takeaway. It was good enough so that I would have read five more issues to see a fleshed out story. As it was, it felt like some things were missing. Mainly, character development. But there’s not always time to delve deep into that if you’re doing a miniseries. You can only do so much with five issues, and what is done in these five is admirable.
Artwork was great, and the covers were beautiful.

Plastic is a story about a serial killer in love with a doll, set in a world of perverts (including a cop who tries to rape a female hitchhiker and a girl at a donut shop) and douchebags who kidnap the doll to blackmail him. So the killer is supposed to be the good guy, the doll the damsel in distress, and everyone else is evil so no one feels bad when they die horrifically. Yup. Never seen that before.
If the story sounds stupid, that’s because it is. There’s nothing to it. I am borderline surprised it has positive ratings on here or that anyone would finish this and think it’s “beautiful and twisted” when it’s just generically bad shock value horror with art that is decent at best.

Jednoduchá jednohubka o vrahovi, který nakrkne špatné lidi, ti mu na oplátku unesou jeho partnerku - která není tak úplně živá dívka, ale gumová panna - a od tama začíná krvavá jízda. Není tu moc prostoru pro nějaký rozvoj postav, ani vlastně pro cokoliv jiného než spoustu vražd, krve a vyšinutého děje. Na jedno odpoledne příjemná záležitost, pokud vás tyhle věci baví. Pokud hledáte něco velkolepějšího, tak radši sáhněte po něčem jiném.

A touching tale of a psychopath murdering people in defence of his one true love, Virginia. Sure, she's a sex doll, but don't mention the 'D-word' to our good friend, Edwyn, or he might just take a spork to ya.
I really loved how unhinged this was.
Edwyn is ridiculously endearing and sympathetic for a guy who regularly decapitates people. There's something vulnerable about him that makes you root for him, while still being disturbed by the things he's doing. If it happens to bad guys, it's okay, right?
The artwork is fantastic - a great blend of gruesome without stealing the focus of the story, and artwork that complements nicely.
It's pretty short at only five issues, but it's a heck of a lot of fun.
Sequel series drops next week so I'm keen for that!

Artwork was nice - crisp and colorful. The story, though, is pretty stupid. I love over the top zaniness, but it has to be done well, which this is not. Man is in love with plastic, particularly a blow-up doll named Virginia. Before you start thinking a comic book version of Lars and the Real Girl, you should know that this "Lars," named Edwyn, is a psycho killer with obscure military background. When Virginia is kidnapped, he seeks revenge in a way that would make Liam Neeson cringe.
Problem is, the creators don't take this to the level of wacky they need to. It's taken a little too seriously, despite how unbelievable it is. Edwyn is portrayed sympathetically, especially when later a girl takes a liking to him and wants to help him. This is difficult to believe when you consider she saw him brutally murder a man. Edwyn also seems supernaturally strong. He severs the limbs of assailants with his bare hands. I was never sure whether the creators sought a supernatural approach or just thought buckets of blood would be funny. If they did think so, they were wrong.

Victor is an accomplished, sort-of-retired serial killer with a penchant for putting severed heads in ziplocs and labeling them with whatever offended him. Potty mouth, etc. Victor hallucinates a vocal, fulfilling relationship with a sex doll. And has conversations with his invisible mom. And routinely solicits advice from the corpse of a murdered cop (not his doing).
When his girlfriend/sex doll is kidnapped by a small-town bigwig, Victor has to slaughter his way through dozens of goons, thugs, and yes-men to get her back. Suck it, Dexter.

This was a hell of a ride, weird, bloody, funny ride. It's quite a shame it is only one volume, I can imagine the story being much longer, with a deeper look into characters' lives. Or maybe another with Gwen. I don't know, definitely much more would be good. The artwork is nice, fighting scenes are done great, the humor is quite similar as it was in Nailbiter series.

I wanna start off with saying TRIGGER WARNINGS for basically...everything.
This is about a serial killer and it is full of gore. There is also homophobic remarks, sexual assault, and abuse.
This was one of the most effed up things I've ever read, but it was enthralling. I was flying through this volume wondering how it would end up. Despite going into the story thinking, "ew, wtf, ew, weird, dude is a creep." My mind was completely changed by the end (the doll is still creepy) but you really feel bad for the serial killer. It helps that his actions seem justified.
There are also three plot twists at the end that really got me hooked to see where this series will go and also helped remind me that the guy is still a serial killer and not exactly humane.
I will say the story felt weak and unbelievable at times, but I was willing to forget some of those points to enjoy the story.

This is a story of love, Plastic and cream-filled donuts.
So here's Edwyn, also known as Viktor. Edwyn seems to be his real name but we can never be sure, he's not the most reliable man. He claims his mother rises with the sun and speaks to her, but we can't see her. He's near untraceable.
Edwyn is also into Plastic. I say Plastic because it very much holds a special place in his world. I'll give you a few examples; he loves to eat with Plastic utensils, has a stash of Plastic army women, loses his sense of time while browsing magazines wrapped in plastic and uses Plastic wrap instead of regular bandages.
He's a serial killer and has a particular modus operandi that involves Plastic bags and waterproof markers. Don't dwell too much in the serial killer thing, it's not about that at all.
But most important to Edwyn is Virginia. He would die to defend her honor. Virginia is the absolute love of his life. She saved him from his murderous urges, she keeps him on the straight and narrow. They have passionate quickies in the back of his car and in abandoned buildings.
She loves cream-filled donuts.
She is also made out of Plastic, filled with air and ordered online. After a particular event where Edwyn fails to control his "urges", she ends up being kidnapped.
Together with LaCroix the Dead Deputy and Gwen the Hitchhiker, Edwyn sets off on a ultra-violent quest to avenge and return his one true love.
Edwyn, the Plastic fetishist and (former) serial killer also happens the be the only decent man in this entire story. The mob boss is implied to have murdered his own wife, his thugs threaten Virginia, waitresses are being leered at and threatened by the sheriff who, in frustration, violently knocks out Gwen the Hitchhiker and gets ready to rape her - were it not for Edwyn. The latter quick to tell Gwen that no, she wasn't asking for it - but do be careful. Gwen, damaged and traumatized, decides to tag along and help Edwyn. After all, he is the first man who actually treats her with respect.
This comic is a wild ride and you really gotta remember to keep your tongue right in that cheek and allow yourself to be surprised.

So here's Edwyn, also known as Viktor. Edwyn seems to be his real name but we can never be sure, he's not the most reliable man. He claims his mother rises with the sun and speaks to her, but we can't see her. He's near untraceable.
Edwyn is also into Plastic. I say Plastic because it very much holds a special place in his world. I'll give you a few examples; he loves to eat with Plastic utensils, has a stash of Plastic army women, loses his sense of time while browsing magazines wrapped in plastic and uses Plastic wrap instead of regular bandages.
He's a serial killer and has a particular modus operandi that involves Plastic bags and waterproof markers. Don't dwell too much in the serial killer thing, it's not about that at all.
But most important to Edwyn is Virginia. He would die to defend her honor. Virginia is the absolute love of his life. She saved him from his murderous urges, she keeps him on the straight and narrow. They have passionate quickies in the back of his car and in abandoned buildings.
She loves cream-filled donuts.
She is also made out of Plastic, filled with air and ordered online. After a particular event where Edwyn fails to control his "urges", she ends up being kidnapped.
Together with LaCroix the Dead Deputy and Gwen the Hitchhiker, Edwyn sets off on a ultra-violent quest to avenge and return his one true love.

Strangely I enjoyed this. Don't judge me.
The story follows a psychotic man who is love with his... inflatable companion...
Anywho, she gets stolen for -reasons- and then it's a blood bath.
The story is FAR from perfect, examples include:
1)This book is trying to be funny, but it's far too dark and disturbing to ever get a laugh
2)What in the world is Gwen doing? Gurl, get outta there
3)The general everything about it
That being said, the art style is great and it is throwing major Robert Kirkman vibes

A retired serial killer seeks the simple life with a woman he “met online”, but his bliss is interrupted when the love of his life is kidnapped and he is forced to commit murder once again? Answer: a lot of grizzly mayhem! Also, did I mention that his lady love is a sex doll?
It should go without saying that Plastic isn’t for everyone. It’s bizarre and violent and filled with horrible people, people so horrible, that you root for a love-sick serial killer to take them all out. But that said, this graphic novel from writer Doug Wagner and artists Daniel Hillyard and Laura Martin is really funny and charming. Wagner knows how to thread the needle, turning what could be a murderous monster into a murderous monster with a heart. Serial killer Edwin Stoffgrupen is…an unpleasant weirdo with a grotesque and deranged past, however, he never kills anyone in this story that doesn’t deserve it. His ire falling primarily on the people who violated and kidnapped his (plastic) lady love. In an effort to get her back, he runs afoul of sexual predators, assassins and local thugs all involved in a conspiracy to kill the local sheriff and her family. He is joined on his mission by a rescued hitchhiker and a (deceased) policeman.
Plastic essentially plays like the Taken films, but instead of a grim and righteous Liam Neeson, we get a deranged serial killer with a tenuous grasp on reality. The character beats are a lot of fun and the action set pieces are a joy to behold. Plastic is a perfect standalone story for people with a macabre sense of humor and a strong stomach.
