I loved this story! I loved seeing Raven and Christian have sweet moments and banter together. I loved seeing how everyone worked together to solve a very big problem with life-altering consequences. Crush was fantastic and played a huge part in this adventure too!

The writing was great! The pacing was steady. I loved that there was never a dull moment. Everything that happened had a purpose and subsequently connected to the next scene in some way. There was never a moment where I thought to myself "wow I'm bored get on with it". If that's not a sign of a great book then I don't know what is.

It's interesting how Houdini has kinda sorta been dismissed (temporarily?) as the big bad so Lenore can take over. It almost seems like he was never actually meant to be THE ultimate big bad like I initially thought. Lenore however is a complete and utter b*tch. I hate her. I want her far away from everyone in Keystone. I feel bad for any of her future acquaintances. If she simply disappears I wouldn't care.

It's sad that this is the penultimate book in this series according to what the author has shared. I don't want to see this series end. At the same time, I want more stories from this interesting world the author has created. For those to happen this series has to come to an end. The petulant child in me is screaming that she can have both. Which unfortunately isn't the case. As much as I want more I understand that some things need to end in order for others to begin.

Now to what I want to see in the future:
1) Kinda sorta would love Claude getting his happy ending;
2) Kinda sorta want a book dedicated to Hunter's babysitter whose name escapes me now (URGH. I listened to this book I can't go back and search for his name. I think it's Snitch? It's SWITCH. I swear I was paying attention to the story 😭);
3) Would also love a book involving a gemini;
4) A series focused on chitah's would also be fantastic. If I'm being choosy I'd also prefer it to be a solid paranormal romance.

I can't wait to see what this author has in store for us in the future!

The Audio Book:

I love Nicole Poole's narration! She's become a favorite narrator of mine these past few years. She has a fantastic range of believable/realistic male and female voices. All the characters are distinct and distinguishable from each other.

However, my only issue with this narration was how she decided to pronounce the word "brooch". I've always heard it pronounced bro-ch. She pronounced it brew-ch. Every time she said that word, I was immediately taken out of the story. I went as far as looking up a pronunciation because I legitimately thought I had always said and heard that word wrong in comparison to how she was pronouncing it.

This author is kind of inconsistent. I finally succumbed and gave this five stars just because it was exactly the kind of story I wanted to read right now. And, unlike some denser works I have been reading lately, it held my attention the entire time.

Still, I will briefly touch on the author's usual problems:

1) She really takes for granted that people reading this book not only have read all the earlier books in the series, but read earlier series in the same universe. This is a problem. The author mixes her own, completely fabricated, magical species right alongside the more typical vampires and shifters that we see in urban fantasy all the time. This is an odd choice, making the story feel asymmetrical somehow. I picked up the first book in this series and heard "Chitah" as "Cheetah," thinking it was referring to a shifter. It took me forever to find out that it was a contrived magical species of tall, matriarchal, mostly-blonde people with some animal traits and venom that's dangerous to mages. She once again had a character in this novel casually tell a Chitah character, "Don't flip your switch," without explaining for the audience what the Hell that means. (Apparently, we're supposed to find it really intimidating that a Chitah character could voluntarily make himself go feral.)

2) In her other books, the characters come across as alarmingly sexist/homophobic/transphobic/borderline-racist. Shifter culture is awful, strongly encouraging shifters to breed not only with exclusively shifters, but preferably with shifters of the exact same kind of animal. They're perpetually pursuing racial purity so that they can produce a male "alpha," with the ability to thicken his penis. Shifters have no respect for same-sex relationships, and don't see the point marrying a trans person because no children could result. Their women live in constant fear of getting gang-raped, and the best scenario they can hope for is getting mated to a male shifter pack leader of their exact species, who will "protect" her and claim her property and businesses as pack property. And such a woman would be expected to pump out purebred babies for him, regardless of whether the woman actually wants children.

In this particular installment, nothing homophobic or transphobic is said. This series is better in general, when it comes to all those prejudices. Hunter, the mostly mute child character who hangs out in the castle with the rest of the enormous cast, has effeminate tendencies, and his father has stated he doesn't care. And the whole point of this series is that Raven, the primary protagonist, and to a lesser extent Gem and Hunter, are all crossbreeds. The racial purity nonsense doesn't really apply here.

The "Black Arrowhead" books, however, you will definitely want to avoid.

Refreshingly, in this book, the somewhat-too-large cast begins by attending a formal event. At the event they are cursed by an uber-powerful mage, placing most of our main characters into a bizarre state somewhere between living and death. They have to figure out how to break the curse, and if at all possible, kill or apprehend the mage who cursed them. Along the way they also have to break Hunter free from their castle that has been claimed by the evil mage as a kind of spoil of war, where he held Hunter and Kira hostage.

This was a pleasant diversion. I like the powers. I like the idea of magical hybrids. I like straight-forward action missions that consist of rescuing a hostage.

This was one of the most pleasant things I've read in a while. I'm just giving the author side eye after having read the first two books in the "Black Arrowhead Trilogy," and feeling like I had just finished with "Mein Kampf."

Best Premise of the Whole Series!

This series has been almost non-stop excitement since book 1 with a wonderful romance and engaging characters, both main ones and side ones. I think this book has the most unique storyline of them all, and believe me this is quite the feat because all these books have been excellent and unusual.

Raven and the group she works for, Keystone, have been invited to a ball at Lenore's home. Nobody at Keystone can stand Lenore, much less trust her, but all must go due to Viktor's attachment to her. While there a huge threat to not only Keystone, but to the world becomes apparent and a new villain is introduced. No spoilers so I will leave it at that.

Raven and Christian are, as usual, thrust right into all the action. Their romance is also still going strong and I'm happy about that. All our favorite Keystone characters are involved and I always enjoy them. This time we learn more info about Viktor and his past. It was good(and sad)to finally learn more about his life.

I love Dark's style of writing, her use of Easter eggs and how fully realized her characters are with backstories, individual quirks and instantly recognizable personalities.

Highly recommended to paranormal romance or urban fantasy adult readers.

Quicksilver delivered from beginning to end and pulls us ever closer to the conclusion of the Crossbreed series. Fresh storylines, and unique characters combined with swoons and laughter make Darks’ audiobooks memorable.

It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of Dannika Dark and the world she has set all of her series in. Quicksilver is the eleventh novel in the Crossbreed series. If you haven’t yet visited Cognito and joined the members of Keystone, a covert operation that handles outlaws, you need to drop everything and begin! Seriously, you’ll love Raven Black, a half-vampire/half-mage kick-ass female and her partner sexy and lethal vampire, Christian Poe. The rest of the motley Keystone crew will steal your hearts along the way. The villains, danger and missions they face will keep you listening into the wee hours.

The Winter Ball is being hosted and held by Lenore. No one likes Lenore, especially Christian and Raven, but for their leader, Viktor, they’ll dress up and attend. In attendance are the powerful elite and the event is meant for networking. It was fun seeing the Keystone crew decked out in their version of formal wear, from Raven’s red dress to another’s elf slippers. The party takes a serious turn when a guest hijacks the party and demands fealty. They have ten days to accept the demands. Can Raven and the crew stop this power hungry mage or will the world fall?

The next ten days are action-packed, as the gang deals with what the mage has done. They find themselves in hiding as they regroup and make a plan. Gads, I hate Lenore, and Dark gives us more reasons to loath the greedy bitch. Our new villain desires power, loyalty and an end to the higher council.

While the storyline was intense, we got sweet and sexy moments in the romance department and plenty of chuckles as the group deal with this mess. Dark has endeared these characters to me and in each book we learn more. This story shared Viktor’s backstory, and I just wanted to hug our loyal Russian.

Raven continues to astound with her powers. Keystone, her friends and Christian, have really allowed her to grow. The story gave us a unique twist and intense tale, but Dark wrapped it in some of the most romantic moments between Raven and Christian. I couldn’t stop listening and despite wanting to savior the story, I ended up devouring it in two days.

Nicole Poole narrates all of Dark’s audiobooks and has become the voice of these characters. Each voice is so unique that I know who is speaking immediately. I love that. Both are male and female voices are delightful from accents to tones.

The Crossbreed series is perfect for fans of urban fantasy and paranormal romances who love working with an elite team and catching some baddies.

each book in the series is getting worse and worse

Maybe it’s me that’s changed, maybe it’s just Raven and Christians basic characters, but I used to like Dannika’s writing a lot more. I’ve read all her series and this one constantly falls flat with far too many unnecessary descriptions (show don’t tell isn’t being headed to) and the dialog is boring, no wit or intellect.

Normally when you're up to Book 11 in a series, a reader can occasionally expect some elements of the plot and characters to get a bit stale. Maybe you see a little repetition of themes or an over-reliance on past books and while the story's still good, it doesn't have the same wow factor of the earlier novels. Quicksilver hit the ground running and made sure all of these possible landmines were non-issues and while I've enjoyed every book in this series, Book 11 of the Crossbreed series really knocked it out of the park for me. This book reminded me why this is one of my all-time favourite series, being extremely reminiscent of Blackout, one of the earlier books (and one of the best, in my opinion). It had everything that's terrific about this series: characters who you feel like you know, action, grit, a bit of romance, a strong, female lead, excellent world building and a nefarious plot to bring down the Breed world with only Keystone standing between the villains and their plans for anarchy and a hostile takeover of the Higher Authority. In a nutshell, I freaking loved it. Quick note: if you haven't read any of the previous books in this series, you can probably get away with reading this one as your first, but I wouldn't recommend it as there are several overarching themes and story lines.

I took a day or two to start Quicksilver because books from this author are always amongst my favourite for the year so I do that whole weird 'just procrastinate and put off starting it so you don't have to be sad when it finishes and you have to wait for the next one'. Once I started, I once again fell down the rabbit hole. Being made to attend a winter ball being held by Lenore, aka evil *insert nasty word here* from hell, the Keystone gang are dressed to the nines in order to both network and make Viktor proud, especially since he's the love interest of the previously mentioned daughter of Satan. When one of the guests throws a spanner in the works by erecting a massive and unbreachable wall of energy, the Keystone crew, along with all of the extremely influential and powerful party guests, find themselves not only without their Breed powers but stuck in a realm between the living and the dead. As they start disappearing in the human world and the mansion is taken over, it's up to our band of merry women and men to work together and stop chaos from reigning. But with only their group mobilising, what can they do to bring a powerful enemy to his knees?

As I said above, this book had everything I love about the series in it, wrapped up in a neat 'the world as we know it is going to come crashing down in flames and everyone's lives will be ruined' bow. While there were only a couple of steamier scenes between Raven and the delicious Christian Poe, their relationship continued to strengthen and deepen further and I ate up every page they were on together. The latter's devotion to his beau is the stuff of dream book boyfriends and he fits the role of protector and lover perfectly while giving Raven the space and independence she needs. In Quicksilver, it was Viktor's turn to share his backstory which added a bit more depth to his sometimes distant character. All of our favourite Keystone members are present and accounted for and while some shine a bit more than others, it's definitely a team effort. There wasn't too much of Switch (who I enjoy reading about), but on a positive note, there was plenty of Crush and his dog, with Raven's dad continuing to add so much colour to this series. There were a couple of really special and beautiful moments between them that made the pages sing.

I loved seeing Blue and Raven work together again, even briefly, and Shepherd's relationship with his son was also a key feature (again, a highlight for me in these books as it's done so beautifully). But the one character who I adore and always take the time to mention in my reviews can't go without couple of sentences of his own: the enigmatic and simply fabulous Houdini. What can I say, I luuuuuuurve him. While he only had a couple of scenes with Raven and I was left wanting more, the couple of scenes were significant and the reader finally gets an insight into his history. I won't spoil anything here, but I was hoping he'd pop back in at the end and shake things up a little in defense of his youngling, but it didn't eventuate. Fingers crossed for him to wreak havoc in the next novel up in the series because his story seems far from over and I love the attention he gives Raven.

Reminiscent of some of the earlier books, this one has a great feel of overall pending doom throughout it due to a well-crafted villain and his evil plot. He was written in a way that stopped him from being cliché and the plot itself, to trap the Breed elite of Cognito and strongarm his way into overthrowing the Higher Authority, kept me turning the pages until I'd finished. There were plots within plots with no guarantee of everyone making it through and I loved every minute of it. The only teeny downside for me (and this is just my preference, I'll add) is the continued presence of Lenore and her ability to one-up Raven and Christian. Her role in the book is done brilliantly because I hate her character, but her continued presence in the series is starting to wear on me a little. I've gone from loving to hate her to just plain hating her and her evil queen routine as Raven and Christian can never get one over her, even when you think they're finally about to come out on top. This makes her an incredible villain. Unfortunately, it also makes me want to set everything on fire when she stays top dog when it seems the means to bring her down is within reach. I really thought she'd finally get her comeuppance this book, but like a bad smell...there she is once again.

There was the fabulous, dry humour and excellent dialogue fans of this series will appreciate (Wyatt was on fire) and oodles of action throughout the book set around the somewhat doom and gloom plot. The dynamics between the Keystone members continues to be a standout of this series, although there were a couple of moments here and there where I thought a couple of their actions were uncharacteristic. Not majorly, but a thing or two had me scratching my head. For fans of the Mageri series, there are a couple of solid references to powers and people you'll be familiar with so this might make you squeal a little. There are a lot of crumbs scattered here and there in Quicksilver to give you an inkling of what might be on the cards, e.g. a possible future relationship amongst two favourites. As per most of the other novels, a few of the chapters were from other characters' points of view, including a cameo from Lenore.

Overall, this was another cracker in the series that has once again made me wonder how it can ever come to an end (please don't end it, Ms Dark - my heart won't cope lol). This book had Raven kicking butt and taking names as only she does best and while it was a team effort, I loved how the focus was once again on her and her character's development, giving her a chance to shine and remind readers that she's the heart of this series. I loved it and will be rereading it again soon, I've no doubt.

Another exciting adventure

Sometimes I worry when my favorite authors release a lot of books in one series that the story will become dull. Nothing is further from the truth when it comes to Dannika Dark's writing. How i would love to see her books become a TV series. Thanks for another great read!

I liked the way this flowed from each characters point of view. I also really liked the overlap in story telling. As you learned what happened from one POV the author would always take you back to Raven and show you her POV when she wasn't with the main group.

I do think we need to intensify our villians in the next books. They shouldn't be taken down so easily. I'd like to see more brains/planning versus besting them with brawn. The villians lately haven't been that exciting.

For some reason, Niko came across as a weaker character than usual. In other books he could see energies and was quite deadly. This one... not so much. It felt a bit odd especially after having a book fully dedicated to him.

And for Goddess sake, let Blue and Vicktor fall in love already!!!

I love Dannika Dark's books. Quicksilver was no exception. What an exciting, action packed instalment!
Always filled with characters a person will grow attached to, love, hate or wish dead.
Trapped in between life and death, home taken by the enemy. Keystone must fight for the survival of themselves and keep a madman from controlling everything.

I am a fan. I have said it before, I like what Dannika Dark writes, and I will continue to read her. That said, this book seemed a bit repetitive to me. There were parts that just seemed like words on a page versus what we needed to know. I am still in heavy dislike of Lenore, and this story proved that I knew she was a truly evil vampire out for herself. I adored that we got the love story of Christian Poe & Raven in one of the truest and most beautiful moments I have read recently. Without giving anything away on their part of the story, this couple is what true love is all about. All our favorite Keystone team members are here in full force throughout the story, and we get some backstories, which I always like. Not a perfect score on this story though, it is super lengthy which seemed abnormal due to the writer’s previous works, and it made me think she is ending the series. But I am a fan, so I will wait.

There's no need for me to rehash the storyline, there are many good overviews written within the GR reviews.

I have enjoy the stories, but I'm soooo over Lenore. Time to move on from her. JMHO

Love the Keystone team (family & friends, too)...including having Hunter in the mix.

Breathtaking story once again and so much fan bonus - so many background stories we haven't yet heard of, so many glimpses in futures we would love to happen, it was a pleasure to read.

But once again one woman made me despise her so hard by being cruel and torturing my wonderful, awesome (and in this story again and again swoon-inducing) Christian Poe... and no, it wasn't Lenore who is not at all what some call her but a worthy villain that I love to hate. No, I am talking about Raven who just as she did in the whirlpool scene with the tattoo just made me scream at her. She doesn't deserve him. And that is all I'm gonna say as I don't want to spoiler anyone.

Read for yourself. Enjoy all the rest - and maybe this scene too because it's just my opinion and I may be all alone with it.

Absolutely love it.

This is not really a review just me going off on a major tangent.

I can't wait until November for the last full length novel in the series. Having reread the entire Magiverse series and I have quite a few things I have picked up that I hadn't picked up before which has lead to some wild conclusions.

Wouldn't it be a kick in the head if Bonnie, Raven's mother, wasn't really dead; but had been abducted by Houdini when Raven was a little girl hence the apartment fire to cover up Bonnie's disappearance and maybe that's why Houdini targeted Raven once she was all grown up because he was curious about her. I also think maybe Bonnie was a human-born Chitah which is why Raven was able to become a Crossbreed.

I am pretty sure Keira is a very rare Phoenix shifter which is why her "father" had been hiding away in a remote area of the world and why she speaks a dead language that Gem doesn't know and can't quite translate. Victor is also very careful not divulge as to what type of shifter she is. Victor was also very abnormally silent when Gem and Blue bring up the "Creature" that was flying overhead and breathing fire on the vampires during the battle.

I have a feeling Lenore and Houdini are going to play important roles in the next book on slightly opposite sides towards the end. I believe Houdini is going to help is youngling defeat his protege but we shall see. Can't wait.

I hope there's a little more of a crossover between the Mageri Series, the Seven Series and the Crossbreed Series. I am curious as to how a reunion between Silver, Justus and Christian Poe would go and introducing Raven and Logan to each other.

Does anyone have any thoughts regarding my left field tangent?

This was interesting, not the best book in the series but then again, all in the crossbreed series for me have been meh. At least not as awful as the Mageri series. Seven is the best of all.
I don't understand why so many reviewers love Crush. He treats Christian like dirt, and Raven hardly stands up for him. She thinks it's funny. Christian has done everything to keep Crush safe and when he honored Crush's request that he not tell Raven he knows about their world, it's Christian who's punished, not Crush. And now she tells Christian he needs Crush's blessing to marry her? Who the hell cares what he thinks? If Crush doesn't respect Christian despite everything he's done for Raven and him, then f*ck him and her.

Always Amazing

I will never have enough of this world! I’ve become utterly obsessed with the crossbreed series, but the Mageri world in general is thoroughly complex and vivid. Each new story we get opens up a broader spectrum of it, and I get giddy each time. We finally get to see an inch toward strengthening relations between two different couples in this book, and I’m excited for their future. We also witnessed Christian and Raven cementing their bond even more. Overall it was a stellar read, and I can’t wait for the next one! I’m crossing my fingers for Blue to get some prime time!
