Dickinson was born to a successful family with strong community ties, she lived a mostly introverted and reclusive life. After she studied at the Amherst Academy for seven years in her youth, she spent a short time at Mount Holyoke Female Seminary before returning to her family's house in Amherst. Thought of as an eccentric by the locals, she became known for her penchant for white clothing and her reluctance to greet guests or, later in life, even leave her room. Most of her friendships were therefore carried out by correspondence.
Although Dickinson was a prolific private poet, fewer than a dozen of her nearly eighteen hundred poems were published during her lifetime.The work that was published during her lifetime was usually altered significantly by the publishers to fit the conventional poetic rules of the time. Dickinson's poems are unique for the era in which she wrote; they contain short lines, typically lack titles, and often use slant rhyme as well as unconventional capitalization and punctuation.Many of her poems deal with themes of death and immortality, two recurring topics in letters to her friends.
Although most of her acquaintances were probably aware of Dickinson's writing, it was not until after her death in 1886—when Lavinia, Emily's younger sister, discovered her cache of poems—that the breadth of Dickinson's work became apparent. Her first collection of poetry was published in 1890 by personal acquaintances Thomas Wentworth Higginson and Mabel Loomis Todd, both of whom heavily edited the content.
A complete and mostly unaltered collection of her poetry became available for the first time in 1955 when The Poems of Emily Dickinson was published by scholar Thomas H. Johnson. Despite unfavorable reviews and skepticism of her literary prowess during the late 19th and early 20th century, critics now consider Dickinson to be a major American poet.

Este año leí mucho a Safo, mucho mucho, y compré este boxset porque acá aparecen algunas traducciones de sus poemas.
Safo es todo un universo interminable e incomprensible, por lo que ya sabía qué esperar, pero gratamente pude releer a Ida Vilariño, a Ajmatóva (geniaaaa), a Dickinson y a Sexton. Son todas pilares de la poesía en general, sin géneros ni corrientes, y leerlas es un privilegio.
Ajmatóva me recuerda a momentos muy bellos de descubrimiento poético, llevo sus poemas conmigo desde hace muchos años y es genial siempre volver a sus versos.

Siento que llevo mucho tiempo sin terminar un libro. He disfrutado mucho esta antología poética con autoras que ya he leído y me encantan, otras que me moría por leer y otras de las que no había oído hablar y me han gustado mucho.
Me parece que la selección está muy bien hecha en sentido de que te permite familiarizarse con el estilo de cada autora. A pesar de que solo había leído a Plath y Dickinson con anterioridad, siento qur podría identificar de quién es un poema si me lo plantan ahora delante porque cada una tiene una voz muy característica. Ese aspecto me ha encantado.
Ha habido poemas que me han gustado más y otros menos, pero he disfrutado y recomiendo esta antología.

Un descubrimiento para mí de Sexton y Ajmátova.
Sin duda, me quedo con Bishop.

Me ha encantado descubrir a estas autoras a través de la antología. Lo empecé porque tenía mucha curiosidad por Safo, que me encantó, pero diría que mi mayor descubrimiento fue Plath. Me sorprendió mucho su poesía, sus metáforas tan originales, su crudeza, su fuerza, las imágenes tan potentes que creaba... Me llevó a investigar más sobre ella y tengo muy pendiente leer La campana de cristal. Muy recomendadas todas las antologías de la colección :D
