Praise from bestselling author Alexandra

Dogs live in a world of smell -- one that most dog people aren't privy to. Anne Lill Kvam's book offers the contemporary dog person the means and method to interact with their dogs in that vitally important, yet oft overlooked area. Her dogs have smelled out water, found lost keys, and located wayward sheep by their odor alone. Kvam's experience and technique combine here to provide something that no other training book does. It is aimed as enrichment for pet owners but the author is a search and rescue/mine detection trainer. This is present in clever little adjustments to timing and reward delivery, little “set up for success” games and some advanced tracking/detection techniques disguised in easy to set up games. Very much setting the owners up to succeed without making anything over complicated!

I especially enjoyed the little twists present on each game that let it be adjusted for both puppies, young high energy dogs and old slow dogs. Owning both of those, it was nice having the book account for the entire spectrum. I am looking forward to some of the tracking games within to use over summer while long formal sport tracks aren’t an option due to weather and injury (as I hurt my leg and can’t walk far right now…). The scent work based games within are also quite fun and creative.

I think it would be a great book to recommend to anyone interested in scent-based enrichment and games, or for anyone who is either a scent work or a tracking enthusiast as the games within mesh well with those sports to add some variety and build motivation in varying ways. Freshen things up a little for the owner (or dog) who is stuck in the rut and needs some creativity to break out of it.

Just a fun little book 🙂 I shall recommend it to my tracking group.
