Fleeing the horde, Startum and friends have nearly reached the safety of Darom when disaster strikes. The Chaos Storm Alliance has arrived ahead of them in full force and is blocking their escape. Not only that, the refugees and troopers that were supposed to flee and assist in the defense of BrokenFang Hold are trapped in the harbor.
Caught outnumbered and in the open with the endless Orc hordes at their back and ruthless PKers ahead of them, Startum must find a way to rescue the refugees and troopers in Darom while saving his friends and the House of Kayden Troopers traveling with him. If he loses here, Startum knows that his people back at BrokenFang Hold will never be able to hold against the oncoming Hobgoblin invasion.
Jason A. Cheek, author of The World and The Last Paladin Series, lives in Germany due to his current job assignment. He lives with his wife and daughter, along with their two dogs Monte and Melow. Originally from West Palm Beach, Jason was born in Florida.
Interested in martial arts, swords, archery, Dungeon & Dragons, the SCA (Society of Creative Anachronisms), reading Sci-Fi and Fantasy, Jason became a computer gamer after leaving the Army. Paying his own way through college while working as a waiter, he studied to become an Occupational Therapist Assistant.
Teaching himself computers and networking on his own time. Jason changed career paths, becoming a Regional Systems Administrator several years later. During this time, he played many hours of first person shooters and strategy games at LAN parties around the United States or logged into Anarchy Online and World of Warcraft leading his guilds.
Excelling in his career as an Information Technology Specialist, Jason became a Microsoft Certified Systems Security Engineer and VMware Certified Professional, furthering his knowledge by learning new technology whenever possible.
Expanding his horizons, Jason became interested in extreme sports and traveling. Finding a job that allowed him to travel around the world while working on computers, he taught himself German and Polish and met his wife Anja.
Always interested in writing, Jason began his first novel called Flight, Book One of The Last Paladin Series, in 2013 and self-published the next year in 2014. He went on to continue writing, releasing the popular series The World in 2018.
I've been reading this series since it began and I couldn't put the books down. I'm so hooked on this series that I have a difficult time sleeping because I just want to keep reading . The characters are more real then in other books by different authors you get to know them and want to know how things go for everyone . Jason Cheek has a way to make all his books come alive and I can't wait for the next one to come out.
Great read and plots. I love the multiple stories and attention to different characters. More than anything else, what makes The World a better read is that the author doesn't spam redundant information. That's incredibly annoying; especially in a series of books.
The story could benefit from a review by a good editor. Other than that minor issue, there isn't anything else I can suggest.
I dont usually write review i just give it a star rating and move on but seeing as I did a review for the first half of this book I should finishing it up here. Great second part to one book if I had read them at the same time I wouldn't have given the other one a filler review. Keep writing and ill keep reading. I like the story.
Another solid installment in the World. Few grammatical errors, like rode instead of road, and crutch instead of crux. The story is action packed, much less preaching about the failings of others. Keep up the good work
Now that was a great round up to what I suppose you could say was round 1. Great to see the cross over in story lines suspect bk 11 will cover more about Brokenfang and the escape from the west. Book flow reminds of early 4th edition D&D/Dragon lance which as ex DM is a pain but fun to manage. Be good to see where this goes. Keep up good work if you need help ask.
Great continuation of The World. I enjoyed it very much and look forward to the next book. I read it on Kindle and once its out on Audible ill get it there also.
That book is awesome. The interaction between the world and reality is implied. The actual characters don't realize it but the author has provided many clues without giving up subtlety.
These books, 1-10 have been truly wonderful. I especially like how he doesn’t fill the book up the whole time with stats and stuff, but if you are interested you can look in the back of the book like an appendix. That way most of what you are reading is the story and not some damn character sheet over and over again! These books are great! I highly recommend them, start at the beginning. The World. Anyways hope everyone enjoys these as much as I have and can’t wait for the next few books!
Last two books read like short stories. The story line is great but I expected Star to make it back two books ago. This story is starting to seem like The Odyssey.
Love the story and the twist. The next Ghoul World boss will be a fun story to dive into. The next phase of this series should be a great ride and I’m looking forward to reading it.
The first quarter of the book is a gigantic shopping spree and praise and repetitions of the deeds of Zeven. The second quarter finds the MC and his adolescent friends playing in the swamps, talking stupid as usual and shows us once again how great the MC is supposed to be. The rest of the book is a gigantic fight against a truly ridiculous number of amassed PKs who are paid by competitors to destroy this computer game - 6000 PKs who keep attacking some already looted town for weeks is not really feasible and their payment would bancrott almost everyone...
90+ pages are nothing but character sheet, list of gear, characters, spells and other useless stuff.
To slow, 10 books for 22 days. That's not the worst part of this word problem either. It took 4.1 years or 1498 days for the author to generate those 22 days into written words. So with the authors current pace we're looking at 2036-37 before day 100 in these books unless the author changes something. That's right; an 18 year commitment by readers from the start of book 1 to day 100!
I like the book for the most part, but feel like it was shorter than some of the other books. Maybe it’s because I was sucked into the story like the kids were sucked into the new Jumanji. If that’s the case then I have no complaints at all. The dedication that Jason Cheek has to the story and all of his characters is crazy. I only wish I could come up with and maintain a story of this proportion.
Once more it has a five star world build, but it chooses to focus on the worst aspects of some petty players. And I am referring to the MC and his "friends", not the PKers. That is one star content. In the end I have it a one star bump for some very good editing, especially the chapter splits.
I have been really enjoying this series. I have gladly donated to this author hoping it encourages the series to continue. The pacing is perfect to not rush, but also not drag. Enough different characters with their own interests and goals to make the world lifelike. I am really enjoying it.
I hope the writer doesn't take this the wrong way, but I'm pretty sick of getting side character chapters that span 143 pages long. If they're kept succinct like the admin chapters, I wouldn't be as upset and would give the 5th star. But man is it annoying.
And again I'm unable to stop reading these books (still would love that more gets done in each) till it's over and now it's wait time for the next, hope it's as good as all the rest but after this many how can it not be good Again !
This book is similar to how the earlier books were
Glad that this is much better than the previous book. I feel like focusing more on Star and not a bunch of side characters with extraneous story that feels disjointed helped.
Each book gets better and better. I am knocking out 800 plus pages in a day or two, that is how good these are. Really keeps you in the mix the whole time.
Fantastic new addition. I find few stories today that can deliver three books and keep me from losing interest. The World's characters continue to develop and give the Story greater dimension. The series is an excellent read, great worldbuilding and originality. I wish there was more writing of this calibre available but for now am very glad that Jason Cheek has a saga still in the building stages; and this at ten books in.
