Secrets of Magic is a flavor-filled book that finally gave me a neat mental picture of how to justify spell slots. (The magic-user's head is equated to a palace with only room for a certain number of "floors," which represent the various spell levels and associated slots. As the magician's skill increases, they gain access to different "floors.") It's good stuff, and while I tend to play martial characters more than magical ones when it comes to tabletop RPGs, Secrets of Magic definitely makes me want to try my hand at the new version of the magus, which is one of two classes offered here alongside the summoner, AKA Rydia from Final Fantasy IV.
