They're both accomplished Potioneers, and the coveted role of Potions Master at Hogwarts is up for grabs. Draco and Hermione are each offered one year to earn the position―but they'll have to work together. And only one of them can keep the job.
Aww, this book was short and sweet…super sweet! I will say that I read this on the heels of three extremely solid Dramione fanfics, and while this was more fluffy than those, I did love the solid love story. Draco has been too much time after the war drinking and taking potions. After his father was imprisoned and his mother died, he fled home and succumbed to the demons. After some self reflection, he got up, dusted his shoulders off, and made something of himself. As an accomplished potioneer, he knows he’s the perfect fit for Potions Master at Hogwarts. But given his past, he’s shocked to receive the offer. Even more so when he finds out that he’s competing for the spot against none other than Hermione Granger.
Hermione is shocked to see Draco after so long, but she’s sure that he’s the same arrogant jerk from their school years. This seems to be confirmed when he rebuffs all attempts at friendship. But then Hermione realizes it’s a defense mechanism. Draco still blames himself for his part in the war, and he doesn’t believe he deserves better. The two become close, and realize that they’re competing for a reality that keeps them apart after this year. I adored Draco and Hermione in this. Again, it was very surface level, but towards the end there were some really lovely and deep moments between the two. A solid fanfic, and I loved Ralf’s memoir at the end!
> If there was one person Draco never intended to see again in his life, it was Hermione Granger. And it was his bloody luck that fate would work against him in such a way.
> > Surely she hadn't actually thought him to be the sender. > > The grammatical structure of it didn't even make sense, for Merlin's sake.
> > Granger's eyes tightened, and then she turned to look at Draco for a long moment; he kept his face carefully blank. "I can promise you," she said at last, turning back to the room, most of whom eyed her with rapt attention, "my colleague Professor Malfoy is more than deserving of a second chance. I admit I wasn't certain at first either when we both came back to Hogwarts―and I understand where you're coming from. But in the months that we've worked together, I've seen a man who has grown from his mistakes, who consistently strives to improve his circumstances, and who has worked hard to build a different way forward for himself. None of that is easy, and I admire him for it." > > Draco's stomach churned at her adamant words. He didn't need her to defend him―but he also knew his own words on the matter would be empty. > > "I assure you," Granger finished, "Professor Malfoy is as dedicated to your students and their learning, if not more so, than I am. I would trust him with my own children, and I promise you can, too. If you have any understanding of who I am and the past between us, you can take my word for it."
> > "Besides," she snickered, "it wasn't that I didn't enjoy the subject matter, but it *was* rather difficult to enjoy the class with Snape constantly berating me over everything. Even if I did everything perfectly as expected, he always found *something*. I can't say it didn't grow frustrating." > > Malfoy sobered, maybe in recollection of the professor who had treated him far better than her. "For what it's worth," he said, "you're a better professor than he ever was." > > Hermione drew her fresh cup of cocoa in front of her and took a cautious sip. "Thanks, Malfoy." > > "I think," she said quietly, shifting back to look at him fully, "you've surprised me. And I want to get to know you better." > > She wasn't certain, but the look that overtook his face might have been one of relief. > > Then his eyes tightened, lingering on her face as though assessing her. He tangled one hand in her curls and pressed a kiss to her jaw before he pulled away. She felt a flicker of disappointment until he slipped an arm around her shoulders and drew her closer. > > "I find myself fascinated by you," he drawled, the words low and smoky. "And it might make things infinitely more complicated, especially with regards to next year, but right now I can't bring myself to care."
> > But still―he couldn't help it. > > The way his gaze periodically slid across the room towards Hermione, as though she carried some sort of magnetic force to which he was drawn. > > As if he were the needle of a compass, and she his true north.
> A smirk curled his mouth. "I haven't had anyone to spend money on in a long time," he said quietly, smoothing his thumb along her pulse. "But if it helps, you can pretend they're fake." > > A huff of incredulous laughter fell from her lips, but she shook her head. Tears spiked at the corners of her eyes. "Thank you," she whispered, unable to avert her gaze from his eyes. "My gift for you compared to this is going to be―" > > "Perfect," he interrupted, cutting her off. "It'll be perfect. Because it's from you." >
> "I don't want the job," he said, "if the cost is you.” > > > "I don't think I can trust Tim," Amelia said, scrunching up the bridge of her nose again. "Maybe I could try to get to know him better." > > "Maybe," Hermione offered with a kind smile. "But I promise you, there will be another boy who appreciates you for your intelligence."
> > Gazing at him, she whispered, "I love you." > > For a moment, he wasn't sure he'd heard her. The words clanged through his mind as though they didn't quite fit. > > Then they settled in. > > And he stared at her, his heart throbbing in his chest, his skin warm and tingling. > > "I love you." The words slid from his tongue without a rational thought, ingrained so deeply as a part of him. He squeezed her hand. "I am so in love with you."
Blushed multiple multiple multiple times over this

The premise was cute but the writing didn't deliver imo, it was very repetitive and not very fluid, and I got bored of reading the same thing chapter after chapter, shame
(3.5) really sweet story. draco was so soft and in love lmao i loved reading their story. the animosity at first seemed avoidable, i mean, they were both just stupid, but I loved the getting to know each other slowly. there was a lot of vulnerability, tension and a touch of angst, plus the solution to their problem was rlly good. i felt kinda bad for draco but eventually it worked out so yay. i would've liked a peek at draco being a father but that's ok. ummm speaking of, why were they like 'yeah we got lots of time to begin having children' when they were like 37 by the end, i mean, wtv, just saying
This is a cute fanfic, but definitely not my favorite by In_Dreams. I feel like Draco and Hermoine got past their differences a little too quick in this particular fanfic. I loved that Draco and Hermoine were back at Hogwarts as professors, but I didn’t like how they were both Potions professors. I feel like having two professors teaching in one position wasn’t in line with what we know about the Harry Potter universe.

Man I loved this! Very quick read, took about 10 hours total. It was a very sweet story arc, and I loved the development of Hermione and Draco. The epilogue had me dieing with laughter, truly a work of art.
