Hating and dating: I didn’t realize they’re two sides of the same coin until I meet him. Theo Morgan.
One of Wall Street’s highest-paid traders, he may be hot as sin in his five-thousand-dollar custom-made suit. But Theo is the bane of my existence. He’s arrogant, rude, and as brash as they come.
As our bank’s newest star hire, he’s also after the same promotion I am. But I didn’t make it this far in a man’s world just to be passed over for an entitled egomaniac. Two can play at this game.
In a surprise to exactly no one, Theo and I butt heads from the beginning–and end up losing my biggest client with a trade gone bad. Our boss’s punishment: fly us to California together to make nice with the client—or else.
When a snowstorm back home leaves us stranded on the West Coast, we learn our hotel is fully booked, save for one room.
And of course that room would have only one king-sized bed. After a little too much wine, our deal to stick to opposite sides of that bed goes out the window. But on the flight home, my resolve to keep things professional remains intact, until Theo offers me a new deal.
The gloves (and clothes) can come off. But the lipstick stays on…
THE DEALMAKER is an all-new, outrageously sexy romantic comedy now LIVE on all retailers!
Jessica Peterson writes romance with heat, humor, and heart. Heroes with hot accents are her specialty. When she’s not writing, she can be found bellying up to a bar in the south’s best restaurants with her husband Ben, reading books with her adorable daughters Gracie and Madeline, or snuggling up with her 70-pound lap dog, Martha.
A Carolina girl at heart, she fantasizes about splitting her time between Charleston and Asheville, but currently lives in Charlotte, NC.
i will never be over the banter-filled workplace, enemies to lovers books.
nora is ready to receive a promotion at her competitive financial office except when she’s called in to see her boss, she’s surprised to see a new team hire who also turns out to be her competition for the job. theo seems like every other arrogant finance bro so they don’t get off on the best foot but when they’re forced on a business trip together, they get to know each other a lotttt better if you know what i mean 🤪
theo was incredible. 10/10. so hot and respectful???? an alphahole who has a soft spot for his mom and sisters and stands up for women in his office? sign me up baby
i loved nora and how ambitious she was and together they were so so cute. theo was like oh you like me back? ok should we get married? how do i make sure you never leave my side?
Opinion Breakdown The Good: The characters, the premise, and the steam. I also liked the H's family and the side characters.
The Not-So-Good: The lack of conflict. This was pretty smooth sailing for the two.
The Bad: The end. Too rushed at the end and not enough closure (see closure section below)! Why couldn't there be ?!
Overall: This was an awesome surprise! I liked it. I wasn't expecting to be wowed for some reason going in, but I like being surprised this way! I think my safety gals will really like this one. Good characters, good development, and steamy sexy times! If only that ending was better...
Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Nora and Theo's story. When Nora thinks she's being called into her boss's office for the promotion she's been working for, she is shocked to meet the new guy and her competitor, Theo. Theo has a chip on his shoulder and he wants it when they are told they are both up for said promotion. Their bumping heads gets too much and they lose Nora's biggest client and their boss sends them to fix things in person. They see each other in a different light and being enemies no longer applies. There are some funny moments, some sexy times, and some sweet scenes...and they get a HFN ending.
Point Of View (POV): This alternated between Nora and Theo's POV.
Overall Pace of Story: Good until the very end. I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well.
Instalove: No, more like hate-to-love.
H (Hero) rating: 4.5 stars. Theo. I really liked him! He was rough, judgmental, and growly at first, but turned into an awesome H!
h (heroine) rating: 4 stars. Nora. I liked her. I appreciated her smarts, independence and self confidence.
Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed
Push/Pull: Yes, but mild
Heat level: Hot. They have some hot tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.
Descriptive sex: Yes
OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: No
Sex scene with OW or OM: No
Cheating: No
Separation: No
Possible Triggers: Not really,
Closure: This is my biggest frustration! Why do I need to sign up for some good closure?! I would call this book a HFN ending but the author offers an extended epilogue that I didn't read.
Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers
At first, that book looked a bit similar to me as 'The Hating Game" by Sally Thorne. The plot was similar. Two people hating each other at work, but then in the meantime feeling attracted towards one another. But as the story follows, we see that it is different from "The Hating Game" in a good way.
Nora and Theo were a cute couple. What I liked in the book was, that there wasn't a lot of drama and also tug and pull from the MC's. They did tried to fight of the attraction, but of course it didn't worked.
Overall I liked the book and I had fun reading it.
***ARC was provided by the author and Grey's Promo and the opinion is entirely my own.***
How delicious this romcom was! I’m definitely a fan of the author, and she did it again.
First, she knows how to pair characters. On one hand, this apparently ice queen, a killer at her job, who’s just a woman trying to find her place in a male work environment. She actually has a soft heart, but she can’t show it if she wants to be taken seriously. Nora is smart, and has big plans for after her promotion. On the other hand, the newcomer who arrives with quite a reputation, is supposed to take her job even–or at least that’s a possibility. Theo’s arrogant and looks like all her other male colleagues. They clash, of course. It’s explosive, and it’s also fun.
How do you compete with a colleague? By making wagers, obviously. The “deal” in the title. What a fun idea it was! It created conflicts, more banters or arguments, and a tension that slowly shifted toward something sexual. Because there was a lot of attraction here.
And since neither Nora nor Theo was exactly who they showed at work, I loved watching them open up and showing their true face. The more they spend time together, the more they realize that they actually like each other. Utterly swoony.
Their work is a big part of their life, and a big part of the story too. I knew nothing before about bank and trade stuff. Not saying that I’m an expert now–at all. But the author offers just enough explanations so you get what’s happening while not feeling like you’re reading a “Trading for dummies” book. I felt the balance was good. It was needed too, as the pressure to perform and the stress of a fast paced job are some of the reasons that explain Nora and Theo’s rivalry.
The author also brings the sexy. I was actually puzzled by Theo. So, we see him arrogant and even a bit mean at work, but we also see him as a well meaning family head for his mother and sisters. He’s also discover he’s a good listener, he cares about people, he’s a good guy. And in bed? He’s both generous and a bit of a beast, while consent is crucial. I seriously loved him, but I felt his personality was too complex.
To help Theo and Nora, and to bring the fun, there was a charming gallery of side characters. Be it Nora’s female friends, Theo’s ex college friends or his family, they were all well defined and loveable. There were some hints at future romances too, since this book is the first of a series. It didn’t take away from the main romance though.
The theme wasn’t prevalent, but there was one. Mostly, it was about prejudices. How you shouldn’t assume someone’s life is this or that. How sometimes people hide their true self. Thankfully, Nora and Theo remove their masks and get their happily ever after.
Quickie
- Series: Sex & bonds #1 (can be read as a standalone) - Hashtags: #office romance #enemies to lovers #forbidden relationship - Triggers: cheating by side characters - Main couple: Nora Frasier & Theo Morgan - Hotness: 4/5 - Romance: 5/5 - + alpha in the sheets, beta in the street, yum - – Theo’s personality was maybe too complex, even contradictory
Another fresh new series by Peterson that is laced with her signature Southern roots, steamy bedroom scenes and her trademark female empowerment.
If you’ve been sleeping on Jessica Peterson, this is your wake up call. Be prepared to fall down the rabbit hole of her back list full of sexy southern gentlemen and empowered heroines that demand equality and a good romance novel.
Dealmaker was a fun, sexy, and light read that solidifies that Peterson knows how to write romance.
i love LOVED this !! enemies to lovers, workplace romance, slowburn & one bed trope? what more could you want???
this is my first jessica peterson book, but it has made me fall in love with her writing. jessica peterson creates such an amazing world, with amazing characters that are bound with tension, angst & jealousy.
i love theo’s character! not only does he take care of his family, filled with sisters but he also loves romance books & is a total mama’s boy.
nora’s character was great! she not only fought against all the sexism in the workplace but she’s worked to be the best there is! seeing both of these characters change throughout the story was so entertaining!
while i wasn’t able to understand all the finance terms, i will definitely be checking out more jessica peterson books!
Jessica Peterson dazzles me with her gift of writing and her beautiful brain. I am always so impressed at her vast knowledge of so many subjects such as her love and food and wine that shines in her Charleston Heat and the North Carolina Highlands series, and the creative detail she delves into when describing the locations of the places she chooses to write about.
In the Dealmaker, the first in her new Sex and Bonds series, we travel from the beautiful city of Charlotte, NC, to one of my personal favorite places in the US to visit, Santa Barbara, CA. Being from NC, the author gets to showcase her Southern chops as well as her extensive background in the finance world which was so fascinating to me. We are introduced to an entirely new set of characters in the Deal Maker, and I loved how our hero and heroine, Theo Morgan and Nora Frasier, meet by chance and it’s not a great first impression.
Their chemistry, banter, and sexual tension kept me turning the pages well after midnight. I loved the build up and how they both made assumptions about each other, but were humble enough to learn how very wrong they were. There is so much character growth, both at work and in their personal lives, and I truly adored both characters.
Nora is such a smart and successful role model and isn’t afraid to bring to light the sensitive topic of women in a generally male dominated trade and her vision to change the culture. Total bada$$! She was sensitive and sweet without being a pushover, and so very positive, down-to-earth and lovable.
Theo was a bit intense feeling the pressure of supporting his family, and had such a giant squishy heart. I loved how he buff he was from his years on the crew team, and that he was truly a Southern gentleman in the streets and super passionate in the sheets. Keep a fan nearby for when you read the shower scene which is on a whole other level of hotness! Supernova Explosion hot. Magna hot. I think I moaned out loud while reading it! Just WOW!
I loved how Theo was so respectful and just in awe of Nora, and how he was a man of character. Loved how much they had in common and just clicked, and how she loved his family as her own. It had me smiling how they shared the same taste in pop culture, books, and movies, and how they complimented and supported each other.
I loved learning all the lingo of the trading room floor which is so out of my wheelhouse, but explained in simple perfection for us lay folks. Loved all the tidbits and clues given in the finance “gossip column” too. So very clever.
The ending was perfect as they learned the importance of slowing down and embracing their relationship to create a more balanced life. This book had it all. It was steamy, swoony and fun with little angst and fabulous characters. I highly recommend this Sex and Bonds series starter and can’t wait for more!
GENRE: contemporary romance TROPES: work romance // rivals to lovers // forced proximity POV: dual TW: death of a parent CLIFFHANGER: no HEA: yes
I ADORE JESSICA PETERSON. I will read any book she writes because they've all been SO GOOD (I've read 11 now). What I'm trying to say is I have been waiting for this book since the minute it was announced and let me just say, what an amazing start to a new series!
Nora Frasier has been after the promotion for Managing Director at Atlas & Teton for her entire career. Now it's her time, BUT the her boss (and ex), Aiden, brings Theo "Teddy" Morgan on as A&T's new industrials trader. That also means he is now also in the running for MD. HEHE. I was reading this book around the same time I watched The Hating Game and the banter between Nora and Theo reminds me of Lucy and Josh! Their little arguments and comments involving Hocus Pocus? perfection.
"I would very much like to tell Theo I'll not only ride a vacuum cleaner, but I'll decapitate him with one too."
I like how resilient Nora is. She's had to work harder and endure more than most because well, she's a woman in a predominantly man's field (sales and trading) and she wants this to change. The best part is Theo becomes aware and then wants to help her 🥰
"I've never had a sales guy give me notes before meeting a client." "That's because I'm not a sales guy. I'm a woman." "No kidding." "So the lesson here is..." "Women have to work harder." "Bingo."
The way their relationship progresses and the forced proximity was everything I needed. I knew it was coming a mile away and I still got GIDDY 😂 Teddy to yourself in a hotel room? YES. PLEASE. It was steamy, it was playful, the dirty talk🥵🥵 it was everything I've come to love about JP's writing.
Speaking of, I know that Greer and Brooks' story was announced for 2023, but I just need it NOW 😫
[I received an advanced copy of this book. All opinions and words are my own.]
I’m aware this will be an unpopular review, so here goes…
I thought this was just awful and it took a lot of will power to finish it!
I’m also shocked that it looks like I’m one of the few who thinks this was awful. So don’t worry, it probably says more about me than about all this people who liked it ;)
At some point I also was shocked that I didn’t got a headache because of all the eye rolling I did during this read.
It started out great though, that’s why I bought it, but after the preview and purchasing it, it did go down hill pretty fast from there.
Stupid - almost laugh worthy - stuff like the fact that they made assumptions about each other that where just ridiculous and based on nothing.
And can we talk about his family, especially the evil brat sisters who apparently only hold their hand up and are rude and unthankful?
And all those unbelievable moments where they found out they went to the exact same restaurants, always ate the same things, watched the same things, liked the same music, etc. to a point where it became ridiculous?
Of course it's cool when the hero and the heroine turn out to have the same interests or preferences how to eat their eggs in the morning, but COME OOOON this was was downright stupid.
And then the fact that from one moment to the next everything was completely fine... hating each other and than BOOM, not hating each other! In addition, I didn't think he was "swoon worthy" but a guy without balls who mainly acted very tough with his macho talk, but was anything but that.
And don’t let me start about that shaving shit (it was really awkward) and the fact that at some point she said “my pussy” in almost every sentence. Ugh, I get it you got a kitty and only need his clipped toe nail to get your pussy to purr… if it’s not his… drumroll please; his enormous willy, which, of course he had, how could we forget this cliché.
God… did I already say I thought it was awful?
And that it took me like forever to write this review because English isn’t my mother language, since I’m from the Netherlands? Yeah, it was worth the struggle to express my frustration 🫠
3 1/2 stars. I loved the enemies to lovers trope. I really liked watching Theo try to keep his worlds separated and failing miserably. I’m glad Nora found a family to welcome her in. I had trouble really getting into to it until part way through. I think less financial jargon would have helped me with that. Still a good story that I enjoyed.

omg this book was so perfect, never a dull moment. the romance between nora and theo, the TENSION. i loved them so much, they had the best chemistry the best banter, i was giggling and smiling the whole time. and i was so goddamn happy this book had no third-act breakup, no last minute groveling. i love how nora and theo were set on each other, it was refreshing to read a book like this. jessica peterson might be my new favorite author after this book tbh.
Why do you sleep with the boss if you don't want people gossiping about you? If you give a fuck about what people say, then don't sleep with the execs. Also don't be a hypocrite. Saying you don't judge a book by it's cover, but then you go and do the exact same shit.
THE DEALMAKER is the perfect package of excitement, passion and heart, and is the best romance I have read so far this year. In fact, this is my first 5 star read of 2022.
I read the excerpt for this book in a newsletter and knew I HAD to read this book. I was most certainly not disappointed and I'm going to be thinking about this couple for a while.
From the first meeting Theo Morgan and Nora Frasier cannot stand each other, for good reason. After fighting so hard and for so long to make her mark at her job, it's galling for Wall Street's golden boy to come in and take the promotion she's worked so hard for.
While their snappily traded barbs and comebacks entertain their entire office, it's what happens outside the office that will steal your heart. Chance encounters and an emergency work trip together reveal a side to both of these characters that they hide at work: both Theo and Nora really want to find The One and settle into a relationship with the white picket fence and the 2.5 kids. But can they take that leap with each other and how would that impact the promotion they've both been fighting for?
As much as I enjoyed the beginning of this book, it's the 2nd half that blew me away. I love how honest they both were about how they felt and what they wanted, even when they were scared of losing everything. Theo is such a darling. For a hulking bruiser, he knows how to treat a woman with tenderness and while the sex was hot, making sure Nora was always fed, and anticipating and fulfilling her needs was the best thing about him. Nora's open acceptance of Theo and her obvious love for his family and desire to spend time with them was the best gift she could give Theo.
I cannot wait for the rest of this series and even the cute bonus epilogue only whetted my appetite for more.
Disclaimer: I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book. All opinions stated are solely mine.
I listened to the audio. I won it in a Facebook group. Thank you Jessica and Jodi ! Theo and Nora have smoldering chemistry. Nora is great and her job. She has quite a career in the business world. She wants to move up. A couple of colleagues try to hinder her. A business trip, forces proximity. Very steamy These narrators are new to me, but seem a little familiar too. I want to read/listen more from this author
Phenomenal kickoff to Jessica Peterson's new Sex and Bonds series!
The Dealmaker is a steamy, swoony and sweet unputdownable romp into the world of high finance!
Brilliant, beautiful Nora Frasier wants it all: successful career, true love and a family to come home to. Why not? She's worked extra hard as a woman in a man's world and she deserves the coveted Managing Director position.
In her way is smoking hot golden boy from New York new hire Theo Morgan, hellbent on out performing everyone at all costs and snatching that promotion for himself. He's not about to let an entitled "princess" look down on him!
Things are never what they seem, though. Passions flare! Hobbits, sisters, boot scootin', muffin carts, crew buddies, fried chicken sandwiches and Bridgerton references add humor and depth to this well, written, fast paced romance. This book introduces so many fun, interesting side characters in this QC world that I cannot wait to read all their stories!
Trope - enemies to lovers, rivals, grumpy × sunshine, workplace romance, she falls first/ he falls harder, family dynamics, slow burn, hate-to-love, forced proximity, one bed, forbidden, found family, banter, romcom
Bonus chapter - 1
This was surprisingly a good read—short and beautiful. There's a different spark and energy in Enemies to Lovers, and this book had it all.
Nora has been waiting for a promotion she has been promised for a while. The day she thinks it's going to be handed over to her, the company introduces its new star hire, Theo Morgan, a well-renowned name in their industry. He's not just the new hire at the company but also a threat to Nora's promotion. One bad deal forces them to spend time together and unlearn their prejudices about one another.
Theo is an amazing character—a grump on the outside and a softie on the inside. A good son, brother, partner, and man who takes care of his mother and crazy sisters. He was the perfect guy from the start, but then he became 100 times hotter when he accepted the fact that he reads books and has watched all classic romance movies with his sisters. AAHH!!
Nora isn't your typical sunshine, but she's sweet and loving (except when they are at war). Her character is excellent! She not only aims to fight sexism and bring positive change in the workplace but also takes action and strives to be the greatest!
Their rivalry is hilarious and highly competitive. I just loved it when they bickered. It was fun to witness how both characters evolved over the story and came together. Nora makes Theo question his actions and compels him to alter his behavior and acknowledge the people around him. I loved how Theo's personality takes a 180-degree turn after he sees her for who she is.
I loved seeing various sides of their relationship, from enemies who bickered to soulmates who understood. Despite being a short book, I appreciated how their relationship transitioned with time and effort—it felt gradual and so natural that I forgot about their past rivalry.
The couple did not have any major downfall; nothing is better than no third-act breakup. They were highly compatible and always prioritized their love over other aspects—even the job they worked their asses off. The last chapter was beautiful, emotional, and meaningful. The plot twist just makes the ending better. ________________
* The Morgan family was just adorable. They had a homey and welcoming vibe, which I've rarely seen in side characters. They felt real. * Other side characters were also well-written. ________________
The epilogue was picture-perfect. The whole family with Theo and Nora's blossoming love was all I needed at the end of this book, but then I found out there was a bonus epilogue, and I screamed in happiness. It was again wholesome and sweet.
This was a short and lovely read. I almost lost interest due to all the sales and trading jargon (in the initial chapters), but then they went, and their chemistry began to sizzle. The book became amazing with each word. Their banter, rivalry, push and pull, bonding, understanding, respecting, and finally forming a strong relationship all made this an overall good read.
I enjoyed this so much that I would say this is now one of my favourite books. I re-read this multiple times, and it never bores me. Overall 5/5.
The Dealmaker (Sex & Bonds #1) Written by: Jessica Peterson
The Dealmaker brings humor and an all out rivalry to the trading room floor while we get to watch Nora and Theo learn to get along with each other.
Nora Frasier has been working towards a management position and she can taste it! She worked hard for this promotion and she has all sorts of ideas that she wants to bring to Atlas & Teton Banks trading floor.
Theo Morgan has come back home to the Charlotte area in North Carolina. He cut his teeth on trading in NYC and Wall Street even has a name for him, The Bull…he is good at what he does and he may also be in line for the same position Nora wants.
Now, if these two would stop giving each other the evil eye and making assumptions about each other, work might have been easier for both of them; but no, not these two they are too busy thinking about how can they make the next day worse than the last one. It’s going to take a huge event to open their eyes and stop this childish game they are playing.
Everyone should remember there is a thin line between love and hate, so is this really a dislike of each other or is there something else percolating between these two.
Jessica Peterson writes hot, steamy, smexy southern love stories that bring the heat and the laughter to her stories. All you have to do is look at Nora and Theo and you know the barbs, the eye rolling and the digs are going to lead up to an explosion of some kind. Since we are trading bonds and making money, how are you placing your bet when it comes to Nora and Theo? Who are you placing your bet on?
The pages flew by, the laughs came and stayed and the steam, there’s more than enough steam! This promises to be another great series for Jessica Peterson!
Do yourself a favor, once you’re finished The Dealmaker; start grabbing books from her back list, they’ll keep you hot and bothered until the next book in this new series arrives.
The Dealmaker by Jessica Peterson was an enemies to lovers workplace romance that made this Carolina girl absolutely swoon! I loved that this story was set in the heart of the Queen City, with a little unexpected business trip to Santa Barbara that turned spicy (hello shower!) and romantic too! Theo and Nora's journey to HEA had many laughs, several swoony moments, a few bumpy moments, and a whole lot of steam. I loved that Nora was a woman on a mission in a male-dominated business world. She was cutthroat at times and knew how to get the job done. However, I loved how Theo was able to help her learn to love and trust and find her true happiness in work and life. Theo was an absolute DREAM. Theos's charm, passion, and dedication to his work, family, and Nora were so admirable and oh so swoony! Plus, the push and pull of sexual tension between these two absolutely blew up the pages!
Overall, I loved this book! If you are a fan of an enemies to lovers romance with a hot hunky businessman with a secret passionate side, a determined heroine on a mission to reach her work goals, the high-stakes world of Wall Street in Charlotte, steamy work trips to Santa Barbara, hot shower steam, line dancing at Coyote Joes, workplace competition, promotions, Wall Street Bathroom gossip, meddling sisters, loyal besties, and a HEA that will make the perfect deal with your heart in all the best ways, then you will love Theo and Nora's story! I'm looking forward to more from Jessica Peterson!
**Audio Review** The Dealmaker in audio was one hot spicy enemies to lovers treat! John Lane and Lucy Rivers narrate this audio, and they were southern perfection bringing Theo and Nora to life! In their performances, you could feel all the sexual tension, passion, trust, and love! Their chemistry was off the charts hot!
Anytime a new book from this amazing author lands on my kindle, i quickly drop everything and immerse myself in the beautiful world she creates, and oh my gosh, this book was FANTASTIC. seriously I loved everything about it -- this gave me serious Wolf Of Wallstreet vibes, but ya know, with feminism added. Nora is a badass boss bitch making this world HER bitch and is determined to be one of the few women in this business that can not only succeed, but change it so other women can too. She's fierce, hilarious, so strong and sure of herself, confident, beautiful (both inside and out) but she's also has so much vulnerability and warmth to her. Honestly she's one of my favorite female leads this author has ever written!
Right away her attraction to Theo is intense, but since they are both competing for the same promotion, they are at each others throats. And the banter ensues!! The delicious, toe curling banter that was so freaking GOOD. Seriously I could watch these two play verbal volleyball all day. It was the most exquisite form of foreplay and I just couldn't wait for these two to finally give into their attraction!
Theo, whom is a growly alpha in his own right, was darn SWEET. Oh goodness that juxtaposition seriously made me swoon. Does he act like an ass sometimes, especially in front of Nora? Yes. But you know he always feels like crap for it, but because he's so focused on giving his mom and his sisters the life they deserve, he tries not to dwell on it. He needs this promotion, but he's burning himself at both ends with how exhausted he is in life, and Nora is the only one that sparks (pun intended) real joy in him. And it'd not just their physical chemistry, but he really gets to know her and understand why she is the way she is, and just how much she does feel and why she works as hard as she does. She's been hurt in relationships before so they are both cautious about any repercussions their relationship might bring them, but you know they don't have a choice-- these two are just truly meant to be.
The heat is also on a whole other level here too!!! Holy crap, sweet Theo is a monster in the sack and I was all here for it. Nora is one lucky woman. 😉
This is easily one of my favorite reads of the year and I cannot wait for more in this series! Go read this book now!!
**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions *
The Dealmaker is the first book in a new, steamy, rom-com series by Jessica Peterson. I discovered Jessica Peterson last year when I read Southern Charmer. I really enjoyed that book, so I was curious to read the first book in a new series by her.
I'm a big fan of the enemies to lovers trope and I thought it was well done in this book. The pacing from enemies/rivals to friends to lovers worked well. I also liked that there was no third act break-up. That also allowed for the pacing to work.
Nora and Theo work in investment banking and are up for the same promotion. Both have good reasons for needing the position. Nora wants to change the "boys club" culture in the workplace and Theo wants the money so he can help his mom and three sisters financially. Side note: There's quite a lot of trader lingo, but I think it's explained well enough to get the points across, so don't be intimidated in the beginning.
They have a bad first impression of each other and think the other wants the promotion for the wrong reasons. Let the rivalry begin! On an unexpected business trip, they get a little (ok, a lot) closer. Neither wants a relationship with someone they work with. Nora had a previous workplace relationship that ended badly for her, and Theo spends all his time working to help raise his three sisters. They decide to just keep whatever happens between them in Santa Barbara to stay in Santa Barbara. What happens in Santa Barbara is pretty steamy...and, at one point, in public.
They're both lonely in different ways and they've had to become someone else in order to make it in the business. Nora is tired of pretending who she is so she can play the game with the men at the company. Theo is super sweet with his mom and sisters, and has devoted his entire life to helping them, but it means he doesn't get a life of his own. He has to be a beast at work so that he makes money to help them. Nora and Theo find understanding in each other. They don't have to pretend who they are with each other.
Overall, I loved the book. The blend of humor and steam is a perfect fit for me, and it reminds me that I want to dive back into her backlist A.S.A.P. I'm looking forward to Greer and Brooks in "The Troublemaker", out next year.
Thank you to Valentine PR. I voluntarily reviewed an early copy of this book. 4.5 Stars
I’m always eager to dive into a new Jessica Peterson book, and The Dealmaker had me eager to enter a new series from the author. While I know nothing about the world of bonds, the Sex & Bonds series promised plenty of elements that would hook me. While I did enjoy this one and am eager to see what comes next for the series, it is not my favourite Jessica Peterson book.
I’ll be honest and say the reason why this is not my favourite is because I went in with expectations of something vastly different. This was described as a romantic comedy, yet there was nothing in this one that made me laugh. It had me smiling at events, yet there were no moments where my smile became more. That’s not what I expect from a romantic comedy. It was a sweet, hot, and entertaining romance, but romantic comedy is pushing it from my perspective. That is not to say it was a bad read, very far from it, just that I feel this was not labelled correctly. It is possible other people will find this one funnier than I did – there were lots of pop culture references that I did not get, and maybe that’s where the humour is to be found – but the lack of laughter had me feeling like I missed something with this one. Despite this, I was hooked on the story. It was another read from Jessica Peterson that had me devouring it in a single sitting, eager to see how everything came together. It was filled with feels and kept me engaged, ensuring I finished it in no time.
All in all, this one wasn’t the story I expected it to be, yet it was an addictive read. It has me eager to see what comes next in the Sex & Bonds series, and I’m excited to continue.
Hot, steamy, fun...this book had everything I love about a Jessica Peterson romance! I was fanning myself and laughing while reading the Dealmaker. Theo and Nora are the perfect enemies-to-lovers romance, and I was hooked on these two from the start. I loved how this book was set in the finance world...they both have such tough shells, but I love when they showed each other their softer sides. The chemistry between these two absolutely leapt off the page, and I couldn't get enough of it! It was so delicious, it'll melt your knickers! Theo had me swooning! I love a hero with a big heart who is hesitant to show it...cat nip! And Nora is one badass boss babe! We could all take a page from her playbook. This book is smart and sexy and I love reading about women like Nora who aren't afraid to make waves in male-dominated worlds! It was empowering to read! Jessica writes amazing characters that you instantly love, and the witty banter and connection draws you in and keeps you turning the page! I couldn't put this book down. It felt like I was on the trading room floor -- this book flew by and I was so sad to reach the last page! I love all the characters on the trading room floor and cannot wait for more in the Sex & Bonds series!
Nora Fraiser is super strong heroine, she’s one of the top traders at A&T, a bank in Charlotte. She’s ready to become the next MD (Manager Director) and is wearing her power suit and cheetah print pumps. She enters the conference room and yes, Aiden her boss is there but also The Bull, Theo Morgan, in the flesh. He’s a legend in Wall Street, what is he doing in Charlotte? Funny you should ask, he just moved in and now Nora’s promotion is no longer a go since she has to compete with Theo. Game. On!
Oh my word! This is my first read by Jessica and I don’t know what I was expecting but this book blew my mind! Their banter is exquisite, the pop culture references are on point. From Hocus Pocus to Bridgerton to Twilight. It was fun and light but also oh so very hot! These two are alphas and I love how hard they fight for what they want. Until they realize that they’re missing something and that’s worth fighting for the most. I could swoon for days with Theo Morgan, hello new book boyfriend! Hot as sin, smart as a whip and so caring and loving. Yes, please!
If you love office romance, funny banter, spice and a strong heroine, this book is for you and I highly recommend it! Book two won’t be here until next year but I’ll be patiently waiting because this series is off to a great start.
If you are looking for a smart, well researched and steamy enemies-to-lover’s workplace romance, then… this book is for you.
I knew I was in for a treat when I started reading and not only found connecting with Nora but enjoying that the author new what she was describing in a cutthroat finance environment. The moment Theo made his appearance I thought he was going to be the typical Wall Street aggressive male, but to my surprise he is a decent and lovable character. I appreciated that they were willing to sacrifice for each other and the relationship without compromising their character.
This is not your typical workplace romance where the female is the EA and he is the boss (which I also love). I found it refreshing that they were equals and as such respected each other’s abilities.
I’ll definitely be reading more of Jessica Petersons books in the future.
**4.5 stars** OMG this one was so good! It’s been a minute since I’ve read anything from Jessica Peterson but this reminded me of all the things I’ve loved about her previous books. The Dealmaker is an enemies to lovers, workplace romance with wonderful main characters. Theo was absolutely swoonworthy. The way he handled his family was adorable. Nora was a strong, brilliant heroine who you couldn’t help but love and root for. They came from very different backgrounds but this opposites attract thing worked for them. Man, the two of them together were fire. Their banter and chemistry was perfection. This was done so well. I really cannot wait til we get the next book in the series. Definitely recommend this one!
*I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
My favorite Jessica Peterson story since Royal Rogue! Now, don’t get me wrong, the series in between are ALL FANTASTIC, but Charlie (the Rogue) has always been my favorite. Theo (the Dealmaker) is challenging him for top spot!
I LOVE watching a character grow♥️ Theo is actually a good guy from the beginning, but had a lot of room for eye-opening growth. There’s so much depth to him he kept hidden, and by doing so, he turned himself into someone shallow. The scene where is starts to realize all this is fantastic!
Nora made a very questionable choice at one point, but she’s a PRIME example of a strong female character that doesn’t have to be ugly to be a leader - but she DOES have to work harder than the guys. I love The Deal Maker for its social awareness, and strong female characters over all. Nora demonstrates feminist leadership done right. And I was SO glad to hear her say that should she CHOSE to not continue her career that’s okay too!
Another big winning point for me is the fact that there are angsty moments without contrived drama, petty arguments, or breakups cause from miscommunication.
Oh, and Theo’s love for his family is positively swoon-worthy! ♥️
So hot! I loved Theo! He was so swoony! Nora was so fierce and strong. I loved the banter between Theo and Nora, and their chemistry was so so hot! I really loved how protective Theo was with his family. This was a great book from a new series by Jessica Peterson and I can't wait for the next book!
