The Amish Matchmaker

Rate this book
In this uplifting new inspirational romance series, award-winning author Amy Lillard unites a “Widows’ Club” of women who share solace, friendship, faith—and mouthwatering Whoopie Pies—in the Amish community of Paradise Valley, Missouri. While most women her age are searching for husbands, Astrid Kauffman has chosen a different path--writing romance novels and donating her profits to her beloved Amish community. Perhaps the diversion—and the entrée it gives Astrid to the stories among the Widows’ Club—will spark her creativity . . .

Fortunately, Astrid has just the match for a widower she believes is the finest, most handsome man in town. In fact, Astrid realizes he’s perfect . . . for herself! Soon, the plot thickens as Imogene questions what kind of marriage she really wants, and Astrid wonders what kind of matchmaker falls for someone else’s match. But by letting faith guide the way, all involved may discover true love has written a far better next chapter than any of them expected . . .

I'm a wife, mother, and bona fide Southern belle. Published author, expert corn bread maker, and Squirrel Princess.

I live in Tulsa, though I was born in Mississippi. I moved to the Sooner State when I was seventeen and met my soul mate and best friend not long after. I've retained a little of my Mississippi accent though most people think I'm from Texas. (?) Rob and I have been married for over twenty years and have a son--a mom proclaimed prodigy, of course!

I love homemade tacos, nail polish, and romance novels--not necessarily in that order. I'm a big fan of country music, a staunch proponent of saving the Oxford comma, and I'm shamefully obsessed with all things Harry Potter.

I believe that God is love. I guess that's why I adore romances.

I have always been intrigued with the Amish culture, their gentle ways and slower-paced lifestyle. (And I love, love, love the fact that they stay married for their lifetime.) But until recently I never thought to blend this interest with my penchant for romance. Okay, okay, I'm a bit old-fashioned and even enjoy the gender roles that are present in this culture. I love to cook and take care of my family. Yes, that's me June Cleaver with a laptop.

I dislike people trying to convince me to read the Twlight series (I'll get to it or I won't, either way I'm good with it), gratuitous violence, and strawberry ice cream. (I know I'm alone on this last one, and again, I'm good with it.)

Favorite movies--(besides HP) French Kiss, Maid of Honor, A Lot Like Love, Just Married, and Sweet Home Alabama. Oh, and Miss Congeniality, Sabrina (both versions) and a 1940's movie called Dear Ruth. If you haven't seen it, you should! A-dorable. Anything with Doris Day and most all of Marilyn's and Audrey's.

This is a Clean Amish Romance, and this is the second book in the Paradise Valley series. I did read the first book in this series, but this book can be read as a standalone without any problem. The characters for the first book do not show up until about half way through the book, and this book takes place mostly in the next town over. I missed the connections to the first book in the beginning. I found this book took forever to get going, and I found the storyline was slow moving. I did like the characters. I found the little boys that were twins were just so cute, and they got into so much. The twins kept the story lively. Also, this book has a lot of the characters not really talking or sharing with each other important things which is one thing I really do not love in a book. I did find the ending to be so cute, and I felt the story truly came full circle. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Zebra) or author (Amy Lillard) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

I fell in love with this cute Amish romance book. Any Amish Fiction book with the word Matchmaker in the title makes me want to read the book. It certainly didn’t disappoint this reader! The book was captivating and entertaining with engaging characters. I truly can say that I loved every character in this story. It was an easy read and the story seemed to just flow off the pages. My favorite characters were the twin ten year old adorable and rambunctious boys,Matthew and Mahlon Yoder. This is the second book I’ve read by this author and she has won me over with her down to earth writing style.

It would be hard to pin down who is the main character in this book because most of them are such an important part of the story. If I had to say which one was the main character I would pick Astrid Kauffman/ Rachel Kauffman. Astrid is Amish and she is an author of Amish Fiction Romance books.
Lately Astrid has had writers block where her creative mind has gone blank when it comes to penning a story. She’s on a deadline she fears she can’t meet. Then someone is at her door interrupting her thoughts and writing. She finds a rather plain looking Amish lady at the door. One she’s never seen before.

Imogene Yoder is a widow of five years and mother to two overactive boys. Identical twins . Lately they’ve become a real challenge and it’s very hard to find babysitters who want to watch them while she works her job. Imogene is burdened down by her responsibilities as a single parent. She needs help. What her boys need is a father. Someone has directed her to a matchmaker named Astrid Kauffman. She doesn’t know Astrid but she’s willing to pay for her to find a suitable husband prospect.

Ira Oberholtzer is a very handsome Amish man who has been a widower for some time. Ira owns and runs a hardware store in town. He has a grown daughter who recently got married. Ira’s youngest is a sixteen year old just entering his rumspriga years. Life is lonely for Ira these days and he’s tired of being alone in the house just listening to his old clock ticking away. He’s never thought of marrying again but maybe he should give it some thought.

Jessie Kauffman is Astrid’s twin brother. Jessie is a widower who has vowed never to marry again. He and Astrid are not identical twins and they are both single. Jessie owns and operates a leather shop on the property of a new farm that he and his twin recently moved into. Astrid is always into something and Jessie works hard to keep one step ahead of her. Jessie’s main goal is to keep his sister out of trouble.

Matthew and Mahlon Yoder are ten year old identical twins. Double the trouble is a good description of these boys. Adorable and cute and they love their MaMa. Lately they have been curious about their father who died five years ago. They constantly question their mother about their late father. Why did he have to die? What was he like? They are so energetic that poor Imogene can’t keep up with them. They mean no harm to anyone but they just can’t help themselves. Lately this man has been coming to visit their MaMa and it’s possible she may marry this man. Although he is nice enough he’s not who they want for a new Dad. That other man they have grown to like so much would be a much better Dad for them. What can they do to persuade their MaMa to marry the man they want for a new Dad?

I recommend this book to readers of Amish Fiction and clean romance. The book can be read as a standalone. It is scheduled to be released on 9/27/22.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own.

Imogene a widower and a mother of twins was at her wits end. A bit frazzled but who wouldn't be with twin boys to watch over without a father and relatives near by. She needed a match and she did not have any prospects in her community but she had heard about a matchmaker in the next community. Imogene finds herself at Astrid's door. Astrid and her twin brother live together since their parents passing. Astrid is not a matchmaker but an author of Amish romance. She calls herself the love scientist. Seeing that Imogene needed her help and she needed help on her next story, she agrees to match Imogene up with a local shop keeper that she knows as a good man.

Elam the local Amish hardware store owner has been widowed a few years. He has grown children and he has not thought about finding a wife. But with his youngest son starting his own life, he knows he will be alone soon. Astrid with her subtle way of hooking Elam with her new best friend Imogene, the wires get crossed. In fact there is love in the air and the plot thickens but interference makes it complicated. Instead of a love match it becomes a complicated match.

I enjoyed getting to know the characters. Imogene was the character that grew and Astrid became more humbled. A lesson that is tough when we try to be play God. There is grace among the characters that I found endearing. Getting out of your comfort zone is when we need grace from others. I enjoyed the pace. It was light hearted and hit all the sweet spots for me.

A special thank you to Kensington Books and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

From one of my favorite genres comes a heartwarming Amish tale.
Amy does such a wonderful job and I really do love her style of writing.
I called this heartwarming because that's just what this is. It's about love, family and learning life's lessons along the way.
Yes, there's some places that made me snicker along the way too.
One phrase stood out to me and it is a gentle reminder that God is in control always and sometimes it take a hard lesson to learn like it did for Astrid although in a way it was funny. But, life is funny sometimes too. But only because it wasn't how God planned it. It was how we planned it not Him.
I loved this book because it was interesting in how things turned out. Lillard has a way of doing that for her readers. She keeps you glued to the book until the story is finished.
I loved every minute of it.
Especially Mattie and Mahlon. They are what made this story. So adorable and mischievous.
5 stars for an awesome story and writing.
It's a story that I highly recommend

This was a cute little story. I have to say that I didn’t really connect with any of the characters in the novel. I looked forward to them eventually figuring out who they should be with and finding their happily-ever-afters, but just didn’t feel romantic tension between the pairings.

I did enjoy the premise of the story and enjoyed the various outings that Jesse, Astrid, Imogene, and Ira went on. I went back and forth regarding my feelings toward the twin boys. At times I was appalled at the way they were behaving and other times I understood that behavior.

Although the characters in this story didn’t end up being ones that I felt a connection with, I still enjoyed the fun storyline.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Astrid Kauffman is Amish and a romance writer with writer’s block who, when the opportunity presented itself, also became a matchmaker. The opportunity was Imogene Yoder, a widow with twin boys. The man Astrid picks for Imogene is one she would pick for herself and the plot thickens …

My review …
To put it bluntly,
I did not like this book. Okay, maybe I’m picky but I like my Amish characters to have names that “sound” right. Astrid!!! Really?? Then Imogene …

The two little boys. “Rambunctious” is what the description calls them. I call them out of control and not in a cute way. I found it hard to like Imogene even a little bit. She let her boys run over her, ignoring her completely. Imogene would cry and wring her hands & lock herself in the bathroom. I could almost hear her whining.

For me, Astrid’s character was more interested in making a match for Imogene than doing so in a Godly manner. Her use of a church service that isn’t in her district just to “bump” Imogene into her selected man rubbed this reviewer the wrong way.

By this time in the book, I had lost complete interest. So, no, I cannot recommend “The Amish Matchmaker” by Amy Lillard.

I received a complimentary e-ARC copy of “The Amish Matchmaker” via NetGalley from the publisher, Kensington Books, Zebra. A positive review was not required; the opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Fun with a twist. Astrid, Imogene, Jesse, Ira, Mahlon, and Mattie are wonderful and fun characters. Reading this story is a joyful read. Expect the unexpected. Two sets of twins and the tricks begin and add a set of twin puppies, lots of scheming, friendships, love, and a twist... Who could ask for more. I was blessed with an advanced copy of this book to read and give my honest review and I have not been disappointed. Thank You Amy Lillard, I truly enjoyed this book.

Astrid Kauffman is suffering from writer's block. An Amish author of successful Amish romances and she is stumped on her next story. When she is asked by Imogene Yoder, mother to busy ten-year-old twins to find her a marriage mate, Astrid realizes she has just found content for her next book. She has just the man in mind for Imogen, and that is local hardware store owner Elam. He is older than Imogen but Astrid thinks he is the perfect candidate.

Elam is the father to a grown children and he is past the age of thinking that he has the energy for Imogen's rambunctious twin boys, but he does what he can to make Astrid's job easier. However, as Astrid is not really a matchmaker, she falls short of her mark.

In fact, this sweet Amish romance has two love stories. There is Astrid's fraternal twin brother Jesse and the connection he develops with Imogen's sons. He is the better candidate for a romance, but it just might take time to see who best belongs with whom. I can't say who I loved more in this story when it came to finding that forever love, but let's just say that everything worked out wonderfully for all involved.

Many thanks to Kensington and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

This was such a cute story! I just loved it. The characters were all so engaging. And it was a book that once you started, you kept right on reading. It was such a fun book. The book took right off from the beginning to end. No dull moments as Astrid becomes the matchmaker for Imogene, a widow with twin boys who needs a husband and father to help her. Astrid is a romance writer and is surprised at Imogene's request to help her find her match. But she's right on the job!
I loved the storyline, love, friendships and a few laughs along the way. It was a really enjoyable tale and I loved the humor when confusion hits! I loved the characters of the twin boys, Mattie and Mahlon who helped to add humor and a little chaos to the story. All in all, this book is a sure winner for all who love Amish fiction. Can't wait for book 3!

I usually love Amy Lillard books. This one was just okay. I go into these books knowing it going to be a “happily ever after” story, but I at least want it to entertain me and give me a little pause onto what is going to happen next. This book just did not do any of that. Lillard was so transparent how this would all end. The Amish Matchmaker is good enough and if this is the type of book you are looking for, you will enjoy it. I typically do, just not this book.

I gave this one 5 stars because it was a breath of fresh air and it provided a lot of humor. Astrid is not your typical Amish woman making quilts or cooking, she is a romance writer! With a deadline looming, she is having a hard time coming up with her next book idea until it knocks on her door!

Astrid & her twin Jesse, live together following the deaths of their parents. Widowed Imogene, comes to Astrid begging her to play matchmaker & find her a husband, to help raise her twin boys. Of course, everything backfires after Astrid finds the "perfect man" for Imogene! A charming & funny story, full of antics of Imogenes twin boys, who have their own husband in mind for their mother! Warm, humorous & touching, this is another winner by Amy Lillard!

Imogene Yoder is a widow who desperately needs help raising her twin sons, Matthew and Mahlon, and who better to help her find a husband than an Amish romance writer? Astrid Kauffman rejects this matchmaking idea until she realizes that finding a husband for Imogene might help her spin a perfect plot for her next book.

'She had a plot. 'A brand-new plot to take a young widow and a handsome business owner and make them fall in love.'

There are complications galore in The Amish Matchmaker. Astrid finds the perfect candidate so what could possibly go wrong? Could it be that Ira Oberholzer would also be a perfect match for Astrid herself? I thoroughly enjoyed her often inept efforts to create the perfect romance for Imogene and Ira, and the antics of the two young Yoder twins and their new puppies, Huck and Hoss, had me laughing out loud. Mixed signals and romantic feelings for the wrong people make this an Amish romance that you won't soon forget, and I can't wait to read Amy Lillard's next book in The Paradise Valley series!

Delightful

Yes, Astrid Kaufman really is a romance writer, but she is most definitely not a matchmaker. However, when Imogene Yoder seeks Astrid out for her matchmaking skills, Astrid neglects to correct her error. Instead, she takes on the matchmaking job thinking that it will help her get over her writer's block. Astrid's decision leads to some very interesting events as she targets a widower that she feels would be Imogene's perfect match. Ah, but the course of true love never did run smoothly, and such is the case with Astrid's matchmaking. While her matchmaking skills did not make for a smooth course, they definitely made for some very entertaining and surprising events, making this a delightful story that you are sure to enjoy.

The Amish Matchmaker is about Astrid who writes Amish romances except she has writer’s block. Imogene who is a widow with twin boys seeks out Astrid to be a matchmaker for her. Astrid decides to do this and use the experience for her new book. Astrid decides that Ira who owns the hardware store would be a good match for her but Imogene’s boys love Astrid’s twin brother Jesse. This was a delightful Amish romance story. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books/Zebra for the E-ARC. This is my own opinion.

The Amish Matchmaker by Amy Lillard
In this wonderful book you will read about how Astrid Kauffman decides that even thou she is not a matchmaker as Imogene Yoder believes, it’s best to carry on as if she is because, “ oh what a story this will make”
But what happens when real people are involved and not fictional people on a page, and what if feelings come into play but not for the ones who you though were to be together, and how do families feelings work into a changing living situation.
This storyline will show you that twins Astrid and Jesse Kauffman who are twins have a special relationship.Together yet in their own unique way they work toward helping Imogene Yoder and Ira Oberholtzer who are both widow’s find happiness and love again just not maybe the way the Matchmaker thought it was to play out, perhaps because no one consulted God in the process.
Like all of Amy Lillard’s books this was a exceptional book and once you start reading you find yourself not wanted to put it down. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the lovable twins of Imogene’s
Matthew and Mahlon these two boys will steal your heart and give you a laugh of two. I was gifted a copy of this book for my honest opinion and I can honestly say I would recommend this book.

The Amish Matchmaker ( Paradise Valley #2 )
BY: Amy Lillard
Another winner for Amy Lillard. I love Amish romance and really loved The Amish Matchmaker. The story and the characters both were well written. A woman is caught up into playing matchmaker for a woman. Is she a real matchmaker? What happens if she can’t match up the two? I laughed a lot while this matchmaking was going on. The Amish Matchmaker by Amy Lillard is book two in her Paradise Valley chaste romance series.

Astrid Kauffman is mistakenly identified as a matchmaker, though in reality she’s a romance writer. She goes along with the misconception and agrees to pair Imogene Yoder with Ira Oberholtzer, but she’s over expected and under achieved, and her plan isn’t working.

Amy Lillard continues her successful series debut with an equally successful book two. Astrid is an acceptable female lead who ends up turning her own concept on its head. She’s a little different for an Amish miss, but a delight just the same. So, my approval of the characterization is a given. Amish life in its own intricacies is presented as-is. Make of it what you will. So far, Lillard has immersed the reader in an healthy Amish community with believable Amish characters. Then, she throws in a compelling plot with a double dose of romance. Add in some vibrant dialogue and you have a completed formula for a great read. I rate The Amish Matchmaker 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it to all readers of Christian romance.

My thanks to Kensington Books, Zebra, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However, the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.

The Amish Matchmaker by Amy Lillard is the second book in The Paradise Valley series. Although part of a series it is easily read as a stand-alone story. I enjoyed the story of Astrid and Imogene. Somehow Imogene thinks Astrid, a romance book author, is a matchmaker and comes to her for help finding a husband and father for her twin boys. And the mixed-up fun begins. Things just get more and more muddled but Ms. Lilliard pulls it all together for a fun and charming happily-ever-after story. Some rambunctious kids and puppies, lonely widowed characters, lots of twin-ness!, humor and romance make this a book for readers who enjoy Amish romance stories. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the Paradise Valley series. I read a complimentary copy of the book and was not required to write a positive review. The opinions are my own.

This was a fun and entertaining story that was a quick read for me. Amy Lillard kept me into this book with such lovable characters, especially the ten year old twins that needed a strong male in their lives. Astrid is a romance author with several books under her belt. Unusual for an Amish woman, but her uncle is the bishop and he approved her occupation. She is going through a dry spell when Imogene knocks on her door. She thinks Astrid is a matchmaker, although she’s not. But what the heck, maybe if she helps Imogene it will give her inspiration for her book she’s trying to write.
Complications begin, ill fated dates, young boys gone wild but still lots of love and humor to go around.
I enjoyed my time reading this novel and it gave me a trip to Paradise Hill and Paradise Springs without even leaving my comfy recliner!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author but was not required to write a review positive or otherwise.

Such a fun story. When Astrid is asked to help a widow from another district to be a matchmaker. She has options even though she is not a matchmaker. Her first job is to write romance novels. This might give her a new idea for a new story thread.
So she embarks into unknown territory. Imogene, the widow has twin boys that she needs help with. There is a lot of content in this book. A series of events start rolling and creates a big ball of misunderstandings. One of my favorite authors in the Amish genre.

So Astrid is an Amish romance writer who is stuck for an idea. Imogene is stuck in a home with two sons and a husband who is deceased. She decides that Astrid will be a wonderful matchmaker for her and arrives to settle the deal.
Only problem is Astrid knows absolutely nothing about being a matchmaker. But she is adventurous and loves to get into other people's business so she can solve their problems. She tells Imogene that it will be no problem and she will even do it for free. So begins the work of matching up Imogene with just the right person. He is a widower and his children are grown so he can start another family. He is handsome, has his own business and should be a great help to Imogene. We travel down the road with the two women as they work their magic to make this all come true. Only problem is, GOD has other plans for these women and he is going to have them take a bend in the road so that they both end up with God's choice for them.
Follow the numerous mistakes that are made, children who do not want to cooperate, a widower who begins to think he is to old for more children especially young ones and a brother who has feeling for Imogene.
Amy Lillard is a wonderful storyteller who brings you into the lives of all her characters and makes you want to stay in the town for good. They become your close friends and you don't want the story to end.
Be ready, I read the book in one day.

Another fun wonderful book by Amy Lillard with twins Astrid, her brother Jessie and Imogene and Ida. Read what happens when Astrid is mistaken for being a matchmaker and hasn’t ever done that type of thing before. Full of fun, clean romance right before all the characters eyes, yet they don’t realize it. I found the book to be very enjoyable and lighthearted.

The Amish Matchmaker by Amy Lillard
(Paradise Valley Book 2
In this uplifting new inspirational romance series, award-winning authorAmy Lillard unites a “Widows’ Club” of women who share solace, friendship, faith—and mouthwatering Whoopie Pies—in the Amish community of Paradise Valley, Missouri. Will appeal to fans of Charlotte Hubbard, Molly Jebber, Susan Lantz Simpson, and Kelly Long.
While most women her age are searching for husbands, Astrid Kauffman has chosen a different path--writing romance novels and donating her profits to her beloved Amish community. But when Astrid struggles with writer’s block, she agrees to play matchmaker for Imogene Yoder, a widowed mother of rambunctious twin boys. Perhaps the diversion—and the entrée it gives Astrid to the stories among the Widows’ Club—will spark her creativity . . .
Fortunately, Astrid has just the match for Imogene: a widower she believes is the finest, most handsome man in town. In fact, Astrid realizes he’s perfect . . . for herself! Soon, the plot thickens as Imogene questions what kind of marriage she really wants, and Astrid wonders what kind of matchmaker falls for someone else’s match. But by letting faith guide the way, all involved may discover true love has written a far better next chapter than any of them expected . . .
This is Astrid Kauffman's story.
This is Imogene Yoder and twin sons Matthew and Mahlon's story.
This is Jesse Kauffman's story.
This is Ira Oberholtzer and son Elam's story.
The blinking cursor on her computer screen mocked Astrid. With each second that passed, as it appeared then disappeared once more, it seemed to be winking and asking, Why? And again, Why? And once more, Why?
If she couldn’t write the words that had been flowing so freely up until now, then why should she have special permission to use a computer in her conservative Amish community? And if she didn’t need a computer, then she surely didn’t need the solar panels her brother, Jesse, had installed in order to power the machine. If she had no more words, then those things were completely unnecessary.
And her pen name. That would have to go.
And the income. That would leave as well.
And then Astrid Kauffman, also known as Rachel Kauffman, onetime author of the Willow Bend Creek Amish romance series, would have to . . .
“I’m here to see the matchmaker.” The woman’s voice was soft, bordering on timid, and decibels below even the plainness of her appearance.
Astrid wasn’t trying to be unkind. The woman was simply . . . unremarkable. She had hazel eyes and flat brown hair. She was neither tall nor short, not fat nor slender. The most extraordinary thing about her was the spattering of freckles across the bridge of her nose.
The woman leaned forward and looked from side to side as if their conversation could be overheard at any moment. “I’m here to see the matchmaker.” She hadn’t exactly raised her voice, more like she said each word slowly and succinctly.
Either way there was no mistaking what she wanted.
A matchmaker.
“My . . . my husband died,” Imogene started.
Astrid lifted her gaze and found Ira already watching her.
She took a breath, hoping it would calm her, needing the air to say what was on her mind.
But Ira beat her to it. “I think we’ve been set up.”
“I know we have,” Astrid admitted.
“It’s not so bad,” Ira said.
Astrid studied his expression, trying to determine where his feelings lay.
“I suppose not,” Astrid said. “It’s easier being on the other side of it, though.”
Ira chuckled. “Jah, I suppose it is.”
“I seem to remember though, the time at my house, you walked out.”
He nodded. Then he looked up. His blue eyes had turned serious. “I’m not going to walk out tonight.”
Had she just heard him say what she thought he had said? “What was that again?”
“I said I’m not going to leave tonight. Not until you promise to marry me . . .
The knock sounded again, jarring Astrid out of the flow she’d gotten into. Okay, so flow was completely overstating it. But it was a trickle, and she needed it.
And she was not getting up to answer the door when she knew that it wasn’t for her. “Jesse!”
She had heard her brother come into the house not too long ago. At the time she had suspected he was getting a snack or something to drink and that he would soon be headed back out to his workshop. But seeing as how whoever was knocking was at the door of the house, it stood to reason he was not in his workshop.
She listened for a moment, but Jesse didn’t respond. Not that that was saying much. If he was in the kitchen scrounging around for something to eat, then perhaps his mouth was full of last night’s ham.
Either way it wasn’t her concern. Whoever was at the door wasn’t there for her.
I recommend reading.

The Amish Matchmaker by Amy Lillard, book two in the Paradise Valley series, is a story of love, hope, and mistakes. Imogene Yoder, a widow and mother to ten-year old identical twins, was at her wits end. Her boys, Matthew and Mahlon, have become a major challenge and she is no longer able to find someone to watch them while she works her job. Imogene is burdened and stressed by her responsibilities as a single parent and needs help; while her boys need a father and there were no prospects in her community. Imogene had heard about a matchmaker in the next community and finds herself at Astrid's door. Astrid Kauffman and her twin brother have shared a home since their parents passing. Astrid is not a matchmaker but an author of Amish romance. Astrid has had writers block and fears she will not meet her deadline. Seeing that Imogene needed her help and she needed help on her next story, Astrid agrees to match Imogene up with a local shop keeper that she knows as a good man.

Ira Oberholtzer is a handsome Amish widower with two grown children, one married, who owns and runs a hardware store in town. He has not thought about finding a wife, but with his youngest son starting his own life, he knows he will be alone soon. Astrid with her subtle way of matching Ira with her new best friend, Imogene, doesn’t exactly go as smoothly as planned, as things go awry. There is love in the air and the plot thickens, but meddling makes it complicated. Instead of a love match it becomes quite complicated.

Jesse Kauffman, Astrid’s twin brother, is a widower who has vowed never to marry again. Jessie owns and operates a leather shop on the property of a new farm that he and his twin recently moved into. Astrid is always up to something and Jessie works hard to keep one step ahead of her, and keep her out of trouble. Helping to also keep Matthew and Mahlon Yoder out of trouble, allows them and Jesse to make a connection and build a relationship based on trust and respect. Spending time with Imogene allows Jesse to feel things he never thought he would, again.

Ms. Lillard wrote a sweet and moving story of good intentions that go wrong. These characters are forced out of their comfort zones as they grow to love the one meant for them. The twin boys added a depth to the story, directing the adults to find their correct match. The message of love, faith, and forgiveness stood strong; making this a sweet and inspiration read one. I highly recommend The Amish Matchmaker to other readers.
