Battle to save a doomed planet

When the Concordian colonists finally reached Earth after years lost in space they expected a short visit. All they needed was bio-material to reseed their world.

What they hadn’t anticipated was the arrival of the Scythians.

They learn the deadly aliens attacked the planet once before, devastating the burgeoning civilization. Now they’re here to stay.

Earth is weak. Humanity has barely begun to climb back to its previous level of development. The Concordians face a terrible stick around and help in the effort to repel the invasion, or return home and save Concordia.

Each option carries its own risks, but with or without the Concordians’ help, Earth seems doomed.

Redeemer is book eight in the epic space colonization adventure, Space Colony One. Complete series.

J.J. Green is a British-Australian science fiction author with a lifelong love of distant landscapes, intriguing cultures and fascinating places. She was born within the sound of the bells of Mary-le-Bow church in Cheapside, London, making her a bona fide Cockney, and she lived in Australia, Laos and Taiwan before returning to the UK to settle down in Cambridge.

Green’s novels weave science-based speculation with richly personal stories. Her works explore themes of environmental degradation, political conflict, mythical resonance, human resilience, and the ethics of technology and expansion. Her characters—often strong women—navigate future worlds grounded in both scientific plausibility and mythic imagination.

This penultimate instalment of the story takes the main protagonists that we’ve followed through most of the other books on an adventure on earth.

It was another page turner and was even more enjoyable than the last book as the challenges they faced seemed much more natural (a few from the previous book felt a little contrived).

An excellent, gripping tale with appropriate twists and turns and ultimately a hopeful ending. Looking forward to the conclusion in the final episode.

REDEEMER is the eighth installment in the the gripping Space Colony One saga series by J.J. Green. This story continues to delve into human insecurities, self-interest, and above all the strength and resilience of the human species. The series began with humans from a colony ship landing on a new world (Concordia). They have fought battles between colonist factions, fought off an invasion from space and survived.  When the aliens biocide devouring all organic matter, a ship has been sent to Earth for biological specimens and seeds to revitalize their planet.

Once on Earth, they found a non techno world and Scythians starting to set up on the planet. Fearing that Earth faces the same fate as Concordia, they must make a decision to give what little help they can give the earthers or flee before more Scythians arrive and destroy their only way home to Concordia.  If that happens, this just might be the end of humanity.

This installment is well written and kept me reading until I finished it. I highly recommend the entire series.

There is a great blend of action and insight into human behavior in this 5-star series. I received a free copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Earthers return after their new colony is overrun - history repeats - 3.5 stars

Earthers - people emigrating from Earth - have formed a new space colony but were nearly exterminated by Scythians - CO2 breathers who wanted to use humans as their slaves. Human survivors return to Earth to re-stock only to find that Scythians have invaded Earth and caused great damage and loss of life.

The what-to-do-now question is deferred while fighting for survival. Redeemer is an imaginative story with Scythians looking like prehistoric avians. There are no conversations between individual Scythians. Communication between the two types of beings is minimal - just war and reprisals. Tee Scythians are technologically advanced while the humans have, if anything, become less innovative. The returning humans speak a different language than the remaining people on Earth.

The concepts are presented well. The humans argue amongst each other. The story is long. I found the story slow until the last quarter of the book. The Space Colony One series continues in at least one more exposition after this one.

I received a copy of this book from the author.

I am loving this series.

Reading this book was like catching up with old friends, the characters are so well written. As often happens in stories like this, characters are lost along the way and at one point I thought I saw a death coming only to be wrong and then wrong footed later in the story when…. I really can’t say as it may spoil things for you.

Places and events are well described and I found them easy to picture in my imagination.

I can’t wait for the conclusion of this series, book 9 “Reprisal”.

JJ Green writes space-y books that follow the problems of the travellers. The main group appear in each book but you get attached to some new/temporary characters in each book.

What with the biocide of the Scythians having devastated Concordia it makes a lot of sense to obtain the necessary seeding samples from Earth.
Except the Earth has lapsed into a very low technological level and a Scythian force has settled on Earth, determined to enslave the humans.
The dilemma is this...to take the samples to Concordia to save the planet or to stay on Earth to help save the Earth humans, but risking the release of the biocide on Earth as well
The bickering and even pettiness that follows do not reflect well..until two young girls, Miki and Nina, absconded and got captured by the Scythians.
That is when I felt like taking a hand in a developing debacle.
Phew!

While the colonists are ready to return to Concordia with the seedstocks a series of events delay departure. A mysterious new signal seems to be coming from the vault - and the Earth authorities are concerned that the Scythian are settling in - building domes and kidnapping people... And there is the continued concern that more Scythians are on the way. The signal proves to be a positive develpment - but further delays occur...

A page-turning development to the series, leading into the final volume?

From the settlement beginnings (in the prequel) on Concoria, through its development, discovering other life forms, enduring Scythian attacks, and the danger to Earth, this series is a winner. And this is the penultimate book, so things are really heating up! The characters are by now my good friends and you are right there with them as they are agonizing whether to help fight off the Scythians (who have found Earth) or take the seeds back to Concordia to save the people there. The action is practically non-stop and keeps you turning the pages! And of course there is also friendship and love. What more can you want? - I received a review copy and freely leave this honest review.
