Mr. Travers wasn't supposed to see me. I was oddly obscure, a blunt reminder of something taboo sitting in the front of his class. I wasn't born to fit in, and he knew it. We were running down the rabbit hole, just like Alice did. But this time, we weren't all mad for love, instead, we had become moonstruck.

One moment was all it took. A long string of seconds where eye contact wasn't important it was the trust between them. Troye was my teacher, I wasn't looking to fool around with him. Boys, guys, men, they weren't on my radar. I wasn't perking up for their attention every morning. But after the first words, it was as if fate promised us a world where we both could be free. And I first recognized the feeling of lust when he spoke my name.

Now we are chasing down the drug called love until there is nothing left but the high.

Anastasia (Stash) wants to leave the world. She wants to forget her last name and what it connects her to. A mother in prison and a father in the same scenario, just in a different state. She wasn't hoping to find salvation in Oklahoma of all places. Her best friend was lost in hiding secrets from her brother. If it weren't for her towering cousin, and nuthouse of an aunt she might not have anything left to live for.

Troye (Mr. Travers) has been playing the same cards for years, a game he didn't even know he was playing. Until his high school girlfriend lied about being pregnant so they would get married. Now they are newly divorced because he walked in on her and his best friend trying to make a family without him. Caught in the turmoil of what to do next, he accepts a job substitute teaching at the local high school. What he finds is more than he bargained for, what steals his soul is another story. But the love he endures to prove he is worthy is one that might break the rules.

Five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"Even if abuse doesn't leave physical scars, it doesn't mean you don't have scars."

What a fabulous story about a taboo relationship between student and teacher! I'm in love with the cover, it's beautiful. (I try not to judge books by their covers... I promise! This one is just exceptionally pretty.)

"Doomed, that is what I call first loves."

Our heroine, Stash (20 years old) has had a tough life. She's the daughter of mob parents and has some crazy brothers. All she wants in life is to forget about the past and her family, and move on- with or without a man. Troye, our hero, is also damaged and insecure. He's recently divorced and trying to move on with his life. He's completely and utterly transfixed by Stash. The more he learns about her, the more he wants to be with her. And man, that spice is spicy.

"I believe the lies you say are choking you, but you love the gasp it brings to your throat."

This story gave me all the feels. I was happy, sad, upset, and feeling friiiisky throughout the whole read. I'm pleased with the ending. I highly recommend this novel. I read it in one sitting. I look forward to reading more from this author!

"Family can be many things, but it is always yours to choose."

description

It's sad when you receive an Arc and end up not enjoying it. It's even worse when the same author wrote one of your favorites, National Parks: A Second Chance Multicultural Romance. A novel that I'm still thinking about months after reading it. I know National Parks is more of an emotional read, but there were some extremely spicy scenes in there. If this novel is anywhere near that level, I knew I'd love it. Unfortunately, I felt nothing while reading this. The story didn't flow and felt forced. I ended up skimming the last 50-60% of the book. I tried I really did, but it wasn't for me.

***I would like to thank BookSirens and Laikyn Meng (the author) for graciously providing an ARC of the novel for me to read & review. As always, all thoughts are my own.***

First of all, how gorgeous is this cover?! I’m in love🥰 I’ll be very honest and say that I immediately had to find out if this was going to be another creepy read and it was not! My first DNF was a student/teacher read as well but she was 17. The ick factor was too much. Stash is spunky and navigating through her life. Troye is in the middle of finalizing is divorce from his cheating and lying ex-wife. They meet and BAM! Sparks fly! The spice had me blushing, which is hilarious and ironic😂 I received a complementary review copy from the author but it in no way influences my review.

I was able to receive a copy to review from the author. I was pleasantly surprised. This is a forbidden romance between a teacher and a student. BUT the student is not a minor! She is almost 20 years old, two months away.

Recently divorced Troye moves away from his home and ex wife in Tennessee to Oklahoma. From Oklahoma so got a little excited over this! He moves in with his twin brother Tatum. Tatum being a journalist doing a story over prisoners in the local penitentiary.

Troye is wanting a fresh start considering the things he went through with his ex. He is hired as a substitute teacher for the school. Though what really interests Troye is his next door neighbor. Little does he know he will be seeing her a lot.

Anastasia, preferably and only called Stash is a nineteen year old living with her aunt and cousin. Trying to do right by herself and leave her crazy families ambitions in the dust. But classmates don't let things just slide. Nor do her older brothers.

Her last name is supposed to be something of pride. But Stash wants nothing to do with it. Wishing to forget the abuse and circumstances of her past. Now if only this teacher wasn't hot as hades in hell and wanting to be close to her. Asking questions because he is very much interested in her.

The two tangle together as Troye is completely moonstruck by our fiesty, loud mouthed FMC. Stash holds nothing back, not even punches. Can she trust Troye though? Allowing him into her life even though she is broken. Also stating to him that strangers should be more afraid of her than her of them.

This is a very fast paced read. No slow burn, you don't really have time for a slow burn. I was okay with the quick pace. Because now I wish to read Tatum's story and can easily knock it out and review!

Enjoy the read and give the author some stars!

This book was enjoyable to read. It concerned interesting taboo topics, and the characters acceptance of the situation was very lovely to read. I wasn't the biggest fan on the writing style, but I was able to overlook that and continue reading the book.

Overall 3.5/5 stars

This book had so much potential, but alas, it was a big disappointment.

The idea behind the plot was great. But there were so many mistakes throughout the book -- sentences ending suddenly, misspelled works, a lot of moments that the text didn't make sense at all?

Troye and Stash are a teacher/student who meet as neighbours only to realise shortly afterwards that Troye is her new teacher. They embark on a relationship which is sure to have consequences. A good read.

Arc Review

2.5 out of 5 stars

Okay, this one took me a bit to finish (more so on me as I am a mood reader).

This book is about Stash and Troye who have had shit happen or been going through it in their lives. The spice in the book wasn’t hitting what I wanted (level and context I guess) for a taboo relationship between student/teacher. But, nonetheless, the spice in the books was great!

I really hate giving low ratings because the majority of the time it’s just personal and not at all due to the writer especially when it is an arc. The author’s writing of the background of the characters was great but, I just couldn't connect like I usually can with stories.

I can’t wait to see what else this author writes especially when it comes to Tatum’s story; who I think I will be able to connect with.

As always everyone has the right to their own opinion and even opinions change. At the end of the day, if a synopsis intrigues you - you should try it regardless of the reviews because everyone is different!

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Loved the book it was awesome, the story was so Dark and Forbidden it was definitely juicy to read and the characters were sensational. Mr Travers (Troye) is a teacher and one that is in the process of getting divorced. Anastasia (Stash) is one of Troye's students they both have crushes on each other. When Troye asks about her parents she tells him the truth, will this be a game changer or will they keep opening up to a HEA. TRIGGER WARNINGS: Alcohol and Drug Use, Violence, Domestic Abuse.

I do judge a book by its cover, then if it’s a good trope I’ll read it. I love this cover! The teacher/student trope wasn’t my favorite until I saw Pretty Little Liars, I’ve been hooked since. This was my second teacher/student book and it was okay. I was confused a lot of the time, the story didn’t flow and the time line was non-existent. The story line was pretty good for the most part.

Moonstruck

First book to be read by the author Laikyn Meng. Not really sure how to describe this, I really didn't see or feel the attraction between Troye and Stash. I did however, enjoy Stash's backstory.
