Rage (Kindred: The Fated, #1) by Donna Grant
This is a great start to a new series by Donna - Elin and Rob's story - she is a very strong h and is hiding from her past and only wants to live a quiet life. Rob is a strong H and is looking for any help he can find for a mysterious illness that is attacking his clan. There is danger, fear, angst, trust and mistrust, some old friends/enemies and new, and steam to get us to a HEA. I can't wait for the next book RUIN. Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Action-packed Witty Entertaining Tear-jerker Romantic Easy-to-read Happily Ever After Wonderful characters Page-turner Scary Great world building Unpredictable Tragic.

I had forgotten that we were getting more books in the Kindred series until I started reading this one. And this book really picked off well where the last one left off. It’s a few years later but Elin was one of the main witches in the previous books so it made sense for her book to be the first one in this spinoff series. Which means we’ll get some more of the Verroki at some point too. This was a super quick read and it had a romance that wasn’t a two day romance but rather one built in months. And that was written beautifully. I enjoyed the storyline, the action, and the hint of spice. Definitely recommend this as your next historical romance or paranormal romance.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of RAGE" This is an excellent to this spin-off series first up is you get
"Elin & Rob's"story full of emotional turmoil, angst, secrets, mystery, fear, danger, paranormal creatures, mistrust, love, twists & surprises you didn't see coming.
Elin is a Witch in hiding not using her magic if possible, wanting to appear to be more human after she lost her mother to prejudice, misunderstandings & her sister Avis to the Coven found an abandoned cottage in Scotland Highlands to rest awhike.
Rob McKenzie goes to check on person squatting in the cottage on his families land he didn't expect to find a beautiful women that roses his passion, its clear she's hiding secrets, earning her trust is going to difficult she's fearful of anyone coming around.
I definitely recommend to get this on the edge of your seat story with Witches, Curses, other unknowns, deadly illness, what happens when Elin helps Rob & McKenzie Clan with curse will they turn on her like everyone else, can Rob & Elin get a HEA so much happens it's a page turner for sure.
I'm so looking forward to the next book in this series "RUIN" it can't come soon enough.
AWESOME AWESOME READ!!!!

Highland Warriors, Clan Politics, Witches, all have a place in this new Fantasy series.

In the Highlands here in Scotland, during what could be the medieval period, we find Elin on the run. She turned against her allies to save her sister and friends and then was promptly betrayed by her sister. She has been avoiding contact with anyone as much as possible since then. She's now settled in an abandoned cottage but just as she feels a measure of safety the neighbouring Laird's brother finds her.

This is the beginning of a furtive friendship. Rob is clearly aware that Elin has something to hide but doesn't push to find out what. When a curse takes over the keep and ravages the population, Elin feels the need to help. But that's got the townfolk talking - is Elin a Witch?

Falling in love was never in the plan for either of them but they can't help but fall. But Elin's past and magical nature may be coming back to haunt her!

Empathetic MCs, magic, fantasy, and a great overarching plot set the scene for this new series. I loved Elin - she was selfless in the face of her own magical outing. Rob is protective, patient, and unfailing in his belief in Elin. He may be the brawny and brave warrior but he's also a canny strategist. He recognises when someone has the best skills needed.

Complete caught up in this world and looking forward to book #2 - Ruin

“Magic & Love in the Highlands”

Donna Grant’s latest creation is fantastical! What a magical tale she weaves. Witches, warlocks, warriors, and nymphs all have a place in Rage, book one of the Fated series.
Set in the Scottish Highlands, we find Elin. She is a good witch who is in hiding after a huge battle among the magical. Rob Mackenzie finds her on his family’s land while searching for a way to help members of his clan who have fallen ill with a mysterious sickness.
Elin’s biggest fear is to be discovered and ostracized so keeps her magic a secret. Rob accepts her weariness, and with patience and persistence wins her over, even without knowing what she is hiding.
The bond between Elin and Rob is delightful. They are both so caring and protective of one another. When outside forces threaten the Mackenzie clan, Elin’s selflessness shines bright. There is an epic battle scene that had me crowning her The Warrior Witch. Ms. Grant wrote it so beautifully, I felt a sense of pride witnessing this character’s growth. I absolutely adore how Elin fought her own fears to do what was right. This heroine’s magical strength and inner strength are unparalleled. And best of all unencumbered by a man. Rob was her equal. Witnessing him put his trust and safety in his woman’s hands was so moving and refreshing!
Rage is a spin off series. While I didn’t read the original series, it isn’t necessary. It was a quick read and definitely worth getting lost between these pages. I can’t wait to dig into book two, Ruin!
Read if you’re down with:
*Paranormal
*Fantasy
*Strong Heroine
*Sweet & Hot Highlander
*Beautiful Imagery
*Magical Tales

This spin off series of Kindred has book 1, featuring Elin, Rob and even Asrail makes an appearance. As does Armir for a split second.

It was very much worth the wait! Your mind is immediately taken back to the era of the story and you could see it all play out. Even before the magic flies, the story, from page one, is so entertaining I couldn't put it down.

Elin is a witch whose trying to hide from everyone and even from herself by desperately trying to act human even in her seclusion. She'd only used her magic once.

Enter Rob who spots smoke from the chimney of a supposedly abandoned cabin on his land. Oops Elin , big mistake. Or is it??? Elina tries to hide from him to no avail. They eventually strike up a friendship that evolves. All the while Rob still believes Elin to be a human. Then the unthinkable happens. She has no choice but to use a tiny spell but for a very good reason. To save many lives.

That small spell has two consequences. Donald, the Laird of the Clan & Rob's older brother, suspects she may be a witch even though he doesn't truly believe in them. And it puts her in the wrathful path of Marcia and all hell breaks loose.
I won't say more than that.

Buy now with one click and find out if Elin's secret is exposed and if it is....does it end well???? It's a fantastic start to the Kindred spin off and I'm Impatiently awaiting book 2.

Donna Grant's books are so captivating it causes me to have a bad trait........I want instant gratification, I want the next book right away. LOL

Elin & Rob ... fated & powerful

I love nothing more than curling up and submerging myself in the world of fantasy that Donna Grant creates. RAGE is the first book in her new series Kindred: The Fated, a spinoff from her addictive fantasy series, The Kindred. Once again, I was drawn into a world of Witches, Warlocks, Gira, Nymphs, and mere mortals. Reading the original series is not a prerequisite, however I do highly recommend it, if only to gain background knowledge of this world and its history.

After the war with the Coven Elin has escaped to the Scottish Highlands to live a life in solitude and free of magic. An abandoned cottage far away from any people becomes her new home, she's comfortable and self-sufficient, and very much alone. Or so she thinks. Rob Mackenzie, out riding on his family's land, discovers Elin living in the old cottage. A friendship develops between the two, but there is a secret, one that could change everything.

Keeping her magic a secret from Rob is not easy for Elin, especially when a mysterious illness infects members of the Mackenzie Clan, but Elin has her way of hiding things. As Elin and Rob grew closer, the genuine care and concern they had for one another deepened. Their chemistry and attraction are red hot, yet there is also a trust and understanding between them. What will happen when Rob learns of Elin's secret? Will he betray her trust? What does Rob's brother Donald, the leader of the Mackenzie Clan, have planned?

While reading RAGE, the energy builds and you just know that something epic is bearing down on Elin and Rob. A battle is coming, and Elin will need to decide if she can reveal her deepest secret and use her powers to keep the Mackenzie Clan safe. All I can say is WOW!!! Donna's description of the battle was so realistic and vivid, I could clearly picture everything she portrayed, such is her skill with her words. I loved seeing a couple of characters from the previous series, and all the new ones that were introduced.

RAGE is another amazing and powerful story from Donna, and I cannot wait for the next one in this series, Ruin.

Rage is a fantastically brilliant beginning to what is sure to be a superb series! This book will lure you in with its wonderful depth of emotion and the sensual fire of its passion. Everywhere you turn, you will not be able to deny its alluring and enticing pull on your heart. Acceptance is inevitable and denial is perfectly futile. I dare you to fall into this lush and enchanting world of endless possibilities, wicked passion, and undying hope.

Elin has found a refuge that finally allows her heart and her soul to rest and revive. However, her time of peace may not last long. A man invades her refuge, and leaves her completely off balance. Rob has never encountered as enchanting a woman as Elin. She captures his heart like no other and leaves him wanting to learn everything about her. Elin can't afford to let her guard down, so she helps him, but only if it brings no risk to exposing her. When the desire to help the innocent place her in the cross hairs of a dangerous witch, Elin must decide if she will run or follow her heart in protecting those she can shield from evil.

I can't express in words the sweet and sensual growth to the relationship between Elin and Rob. It was slow, tender, and exquisite. Their souls immediately connected even if it took their hearts awhile to give in to the immense passion that sparked between them. Love can be delayed, but it can't be stopped. Oh, how hot and passionate and beautiful their love and bond was! It left me wanting oh so much more from their story.

Nothing is truly better for the soul then reading a Donna Grant book. She weaves an unbreakable web around you are you walk deeper in her worlds. It is one that you will not want to break, and as it holds you fast it also melds you into their world as you experience every emotion and trial her inspirational characters walk through. I always feel refreshed and rejuvenated after immersing myself within the pages of one her extraordinary works of art.

OK, wow, that read went a bit too quickly, I had to stop at 70% so I could savor the ending! So much happening in a short time period, and so much to take in - what a gift this novel is. The first of the trilogy in a new series by Donna Grant called “Kindred: The Fated” was a page-turner. Elin, a young witch who survived the battle with the Coven; Asrail - the wood nymph Queen and other Gira, and then there are the water nymphs - this book was like coming home, to a brand new place, where things felt familiar but were definitely different.

When reading the descriptions of Elin’s cottage that she found hidden away deep in the Scottish Highlands, the descriptions of bright greens and beautiful forests of Scotland create a magical setting for such a picturesque place that just the description alone creates its own solitude and beauty. Elin meets Rob, the second son of the clan Mackenzie, who owns the land and the cottage she moved into. Rob terrifies her at first but his intentions are not hostile and eventually, an exciting friendship ensues, but will it become more? Read on….

When Elin finally uses the powers she has kept hidden for so many years, the energy that leaps off the pages is electrifying, what she is feeling is evident as you read through one of the most exciting parts of the book - well there are other parts that generate other heat but are a bit different, but I digress….

Take a few hours, and read Rage - you will not be disappointed. Donna Grant is at her best!

Amazing!
What an amazing start to the spinoff of the Kindred series!
Elin is a witch who had wanted to believe her sister had changed, so she turned against her friends and allies to save her sister. When she realized her sister lied to her she went against her sister to do the right thing. She is now running away from everything and everyone she knew to hide away and not use magic anymore.
She finds an abandoned cottage that she moves into but the Laird’s brother, Rob, finds her on their land while he is out looking for someone to help his clan. Their people are sick and dying and although Elin at first denies she is a healer, but she decides to go to see if she can help them. It ends up that it is from a curse done by a spiteful, selfish witch. Elin breaks the curse which then makes people suspicious about her and she is sure it’s only a matter of time until people figure out that she is a witch.
Elin and Rob are attracted to each other and fall in love but Rob’s brother has arranged a marriage for him to a woman from a neighboring clan. Rob refuses. If he doesn’t agree to marry her he has to leave the clan. Will he chose to stay with the clan or will he chose Elin?
Elin is the only one who can stand up to the witch and now she has to decide if she wants to reveal her powers to protect the Mackenzie clan from the witch that cursed them and possibly die or leave to protect herself and her secret. Even if she would win against the witch, she knows that she will need to leave and that there is no hope of a relationship with Rob once they find out she is a witch.
Such a great story. I am looking forward to the next one.

Rage is the first book in a trilogy spin off of the Kindred series. It can be read as a standalone book, however, you will miss some of the back story of the war with the Coven, Nymphs, etc. Rage picks up after the Coven has been defeated with Elin trying to live a magic free life in a new place - Scotland. Elin created a new home for herself in an abandoned cottage on the Mackenzie clan’s land, knowing that at some point she would probably need to leave her haven if/when the clan found her living on their land.

Rob Mackenzie (the Lairds younger brother) finds Elin as he’s searching for someone to help his family recover from a mysterious ailment that has been fatal for several of his clan members and the Lairds’ fiancee.
Elin and Rob have an instant connection and Elin realizes that protecting her secret would lead to more people dying because the illness is actually the result of another witch’s curse and she breaks the curse.

As Elin and Rob grow closer, an old ally / mentor arrives and nymphs that avoided the war have warned her of the dangers that she’s up against since she helped the Mackenzie clan. Elin must make a decision on if she reveals her powers to others to protect the Mackenzie clan from the witch that cursed them putting her life and her future with Rob at risk.

This is the first in a spin off series that lays the groundwork for the next two books in the trilogy.

Rage is a great introduction to this new Kindred: The Fated series in an amazing new world. By Donna Grant I knew I could count on multifaceted characters with strong emotions and passions along with a complex story line. She sure did deliver this time in Rage.

Acton-packed plot that never slows down this book has many of the themes that Ms. Grant often explore such as danger from unknown sources, bravery in the face of fear, angst, doubts, trust, and mistrust. Of course there is sizzling chemistry between Elin and Rob with a HEA that will bring a smile.
Fans of Grants will love Rage while paranormal fans new to this author will become fans of hers. Start today with book one in the Kindred: The Fated and be captivated by Elin’s and Rob’s story.

The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

After surviving the war with Coven, Elin made the decision to never use her magic again. Instead she finds a deserted cabin on the far side of the woods. She's content to be by herself until the day she's discovered and her peace is shattered. Rob is brother to the leader of the clan that holds the land on which the cabin sits. At first he's simply curious until he finds himself enchanted by Elin. With Rob, Elin begins to believe she can have the life she never thought would be hers. When tragedy strikes Rob's clan, those dreams are shattered. Elin needs to choose. To have the life she wants she'll be risking the future of Rob's clan.

Elin is a sympathetic character. You can feel her fear and indecision throughout the story. Rob is the perfect match who has the patience and understanding to break through the walls she's built around herself. Which makes the choice Elin needs to make all the more heartbreaking. Culminating in an epic battle between good and evil, this is a captivating beginning to what promises to be a compelling new series.

This was a quick, enjoyable read, which is a spinoff from the Kindred series. We get to meet Erin and Rob, who are great new characters. Erin is a witch, in hiding and her only desire is to live in peace and be left alone. Erin soon finds out that trying to hide and to not use her magic is not going to be as easy as she believes. While in hiding, she is discovered by Rob, who is a part of the Mackenzie Clan. Rob is on a mission to seek help for his people who are sick and dying from a curse, conjured by an evil witch. Erin really did not want to get involved, but she agrees, because of the feeling she and Rob are beginning to have for one another. Erin knows witches are feared and once she uses her magic, her secret will be revealed. There are lots of twists and turns and as usual, DG takes us on an adventure that you do not want to end. This was another great read and I am looking forward to the next installment.

One thing I love about Donna Grant's world building is that she creates such lush characters, you (as a reader) can't help to feel like you are meeting new people and not just reading about them. Not every author has this skill and as an avid DG reader, I admit I'm feeling rather spoiled.

"Rage" is book one of DG's latest series and I'm craving more books already. I simply just want MORE! "Rage" is a spin-off from DG's previous "Kindred" saga and though it's not necessary for you to read the Kindred books (everything is neatly addressed) I suggest that you do just so that you have a full understanding of the established characters and a more enriched reading experience.

I simply cannot wait to read more about these new 'friends' and watch what happens in their world. Hats off to Ms. Grant for another successful launch of new realm to love.

Rage by Donna Grant is a very good read. But then aren't all of her books? As is Grant's norm, this story is full of great characters and tons of life or death tension. All of which is quite enjoyable.

Elin is hiding. Her kind, witches, are outcasts in the aftermath of a horrendous war. She's found a usable, actually quite suitable, cottage in the Scottish countryside that she's made her home for a brief period. Unfortunately, she stays too long and is found by Rob. Younger brother of the reigning clan Lord, he knows she doesn't belong. But there's something about her that keeps him coming back. After giving him an antidote to fight the disease killing his kin, he wonders more about who she is. What was she able to do that the healer wasn't? The two fall in love over a period until she finally has to risk everything to be honest with Rob and to fight the evil that lurks.

There is the tension of hiding her truths, daring to love and the battle being brought to her. All this is very fun, tense and interesting.

Thanks to NetGalley and the author for the ARC.

A quick read. The story was interesting (Scottish highlands man falls in love with a witch) but it was too short! The romance was also severely lacking.. there were so many missed opportunities for the author to build and thicken the plot..

RAGE:
Elin is a witch running from her past. She wants to live a quiet life away from people. However, things never go as Elin wishes. She feels conflicted about helping the man who approached her for help. When a witch becomes involved, Elin agrees to confront her. Will Elin find the place she belongs? Or will she be forced to walk away from Rob and her feelings for him?
Rob MacKenzie searches desperately for someone to help his people when a mysterious illness befalls them. He happens upon the woman squatting at an abandoned cottage on his family’s land. Rob senses Elin is not telling him the complete truth, but he cannot stay away from her. Will Rob convince Elin to trust him with her secrets? Or will he be forced to give up on her?
Elin has a generous heart. However, for all her good deeds, she has been victimized by superstitious idiots. I understand Elin’s desire to find a place to belong. Thanks to mistakes and past actions, she denies herself the safety of witches’ one haven.
Rob is a sweetheart. I like how he does not have preconceived notions about witches. Rob accepts Elin for her generosity and helping nature. I also adore his patience with Elin. He knows that she has not been completely truthful with him. However, Rob is willing to wait for her to trust him enough to tell all her secrets.
RAGE is the first book in Donna Grant’s paranormal-historical romance series, KINDRED: THE FATED. It is a spinoff from her THE KINDRED series.
RUIN:
Asa is a descendant of the First Witch’s sister. She wants to reunite with her younger sister in Norway. However, Asa encounters a gravely wounded Highlander who warns her of danger. She prepares for the threat coming for her. Can Asa defeat the powerful witch targeting her? Will she get a chance to see her beloved sister again?

Rory Sutherland is the banished third son of the Laird of the Sutherlands. He returns to Scotland to search for Asa and warn her of the danger coming. Rory decides to help Asa fight the enemies who want her only for her special bloodline. Can Rory defeat the Viking chieftain who intends to possess Asa? Will he find the place he truly belongs?

There is only one nitpick I have about Rory. I wanted to know more about his connection with Yggdrasil. I felt that angle should have been explored more in the story. There must be a mystical reason why the tree appeared to him twice, unless the author plans to reveal that in future books.

RUIN is the second book in Donna Grant’s paranormal-historical romance series, KINDRED: THE FATED, a spinoff from her five-book series THE KINDRED. The story can standalone. The prior series sets up the world where witches reside, why they are hated, and the factions among them. I am behind on both series, but it did not hinder my ability to follow the story’s plot. The author does a good job summarizing the important parts of the previous books.

REIGN:
Malene is the Lady of the Varroki. After battling the Coven leader, she wakes far from home without any memories of her former life. Malene adorns a new identity, a witch named Dagny who thirsts for power. However, Armir stands in her way. The man whisks Dagny to an isolated cave, and he claims to know her. Can Dagny escape her cavern prison? Dare she trust Armir? And will he be beneficial to Dagny regaining her memories as Malene?

Armir is considered The Lady of the Varroki’s instructor, protector, and right-hand man. He has always loved Malene, but he knows a romance between them is taboo. After her disappearance, Armir refuses to believe she is dead. When Malene returns but as Dagny, he is determined to keep her from doing despicable things. Will Armir finally act on his attraction to Malene/Dagny? Can he convince Dagny to give up her quest for power?

I could not connect with Malene. She just fell flat with me. I really tried to like her but could not.

I love Armir’s dedication to Malene. When everyone else, including the Varroki, believed she died, he never gave up hope on finding her alive. Armir instead searched the world for her. He also refused to allow her, as Dagny, to do something that Malene would regret.

REIGN is the third and final book in Donna Grant’s Historical-Fantasy romance series, KINDRED: THE FATED. I suggest reading the five books in THE KINDRED before delving into KINDRED: THE FATED. The former books set up the world, the situation it is in, and the Varroki people. Malene and Armir play important roles there, leading up to this story.

To be perfectly honest I went into this story knowing I would enjoy but not really recalling the characters or their connection to the original Kindred storyline because the previous series ended so long ago (in reading years). I knew I would love it simply because I rarely don’t enjoy one of Donna’s stories and I especially enjoyed the Kindred series, but it wasn’t until the second of third chapter that I really started to recall who Elin was and her connection to the previous series finale. That said I loved how Donna wove this new spinoff from the original series and I am really looking forward to finally getting some closure on a few of the characters I was sad never got their HEA. Elin has not had an easy life, always being hunted and feeling separate from those around her, but she has never given up on the hope of finding a home for herself and the acceptance she craves. She has made a solitary home for herself in a beautiful glen, far away from others, but when her solitude is broken by the brother of the local laird, she knows she won’t be able to stick around much longer. Rob Mackenzie stumbles across the enchanting young woman living alone in the glen and knows she is a flight risk, but he is determined to find someone that can help with the terrible sickness that has covered his kin and clan. As Rob and Elin begin to spend more and more time together their feelings blossom from friendship into something much deeper, but there are dark forces building against them. Can Rob offer his faith and trust in Elin and find a way to protect her while she confronts the darkness haunting his Clan or will Rob forsake her like so many in her past have and leave her in the cold alone again?

Honestly I loved the story from beginning to end. The characters were each so unique with their layers of vulnerabilities and fears to their strengths and assets, balancing one another perfectly. It is obvious that only by working together and fully trusting will they get through the coming battle with the evil and finding a way to move forward in their future. Elin has a lot to atone for in her mind, but at the same time she knows she can’t offer her trust to others without risking her life. There have been too many times in her past when she was burned and there is no way she could ever risk it again without fully trusting the one she is with. I loved seeing her find faith and trust in Rob and offering her heart to him. Rob is obviously beyond his experience and understanding when he first meets Elin, thinking her only a helpless young woman, but he quickly begins to see how powerful and strong she is and begins to trust in her abilities and her willingness to do whatever it takes to keep herself and those she loves safe. I enjoyed watching him standup for her and show his love against all those that tried to tear her down, even herself. The passion between Rob and Elin was subtle in the beginning but one friendship blossomed into trust the passion had an outlet and there was no denying the heat. I am dying for the next book in this series as I suspect I know who the couple with be and if so I can only hold back my inner squealing fan-girl so long while I wait. Once again Donna Grant gives us a spin-off series that is looking at being even better than the original and I cannot wait for it to develop.

Elin had been on the run for what seemed forever. Her life had been one of instability since they hung her mother as a witch. Her only sister had died in battle.

Elin only wanted to be left alone, to live her life in solitude but that never lasted long enough. She would always have to move on...She had found a small abandoned cottage and was living there for several months. She used her magic only once, to fix the roof of the cottage and would use it no more.

Then she met Rob. He was the brother of the Laird of the land she was living on. She drove him away and prepared to leave but he tracked her, knowing it was unsafe for a woman alone. He found her, 2 men assaulting her and saved her. She'd been knocked out and he returned her to the cottage.

He came to her and asked if she had any healing skills, which she denied. He told her of an illness that was killing the people, which happened after a rejected woman "cursed" them. Elin later showed up with a basket of herbs and instructions for their use. The health of the people began to improve until no one was sick.

Rob then began to visit her a little here and there, both enjoying the company of the other. Rob knew he was developing feelings for her and she for him, although she pushed them away. Rob knew he loved her and wanted her as a wife.

The witch who had cursed them was angry because her curse had been lifted and prepared for more revenge. There was a chance that everyone at the keep would lose their lives. By this time Elin knew who it was but what would she do? Does she use her magic to stop the witch? Will she end up being killed because she used her magic? Elin must decide if the possibility of her dying will save the Clan.

Elin was such a good and kind person and it was amazing she would have this outlook with the life she had led. She had seen the battles and the death and only wanted some peace and happiness for herself.
Rob saw her for the person she was.

As usual, Ms. Grant grabs your attention with the first page with her beautiful writing!

3.75stars—RAGE is the first instalment in Donna Grant’s adult KINDRED: THE FATED erotic, historical, paranormal / fantasy romance series set in the author’s World of the Kindred. This is witch Elin, and Highlander Rob MacKenzie.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Elin and Rob) RAGE follows the building relationship and romance between Elin, a powerful witch, and Highlander Rob MacKenzie. The MacKenzie Clan has been cursed, and Rob’s extended family is quickly dying. Discovering someone living in the cottage on his family’s land, Rob will come face to face with his future in the guise of Elin, a young woman who is about to save the lives of the people he loves but Elin is not as she appears to be, Elin is a witch, in hiding and on the run from the people hunting her down. When Elin discovers the truth behind the ‘curse’ against the MacKenzie Clan, Elin must reveal her existence for the world to see. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Elin and Rob, and the potential fall-out as Elin must face down another witch who is unable to control her powers.

The relationship between Elin and Rob begins trepidatiously. Elin is in hiding and wants nothing to do with our story line hero.Fearing for her life, Elin goes on the run hoping for some direction from the powers in her life. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Rob’s brother and clan laird Donald, as well as Asrail, a tree nymph that gives our heroine help and advise, and Marcia, a young witch promised to our story line hero.

RAGE is a story of power and magic, betrayal and vengeance, secrets and lies, love and understanding. The fast paced premise is intriguing and captivating; the romance is seductive; the characters are magical, mysterious and determined.

Rage is the first book in a new series that builds off of Donna's Kindred series. It does bring in characters from that series, but as she does so well, you don't have to have read that series to be immediately drawn in to this series. But, why haven't you?? (grin)

What i enjoyed most about this book is the main character Elin. When we meet her she is self sufficiently living on her own in the wilds of the Highlands of Scotland... not an easy feat at all, male or female! But she's in hiding, and doing a great job of living on her own.

Enter our hero, Rob, who is searching for someone to help his clan. Elin is the only one who can, for reasons she tries to keep secret. Once she makes the decision to help, what follows is a sweet build up to a climax that fully explains why Donna chose Rage as the title of this first book.

Elin makes all of the choices she makes knowing she will put herself in danger yet she makes them with a strength and bravery and with little or no self waffling and this sets her apart from so many other heroines. Rob is supportive, unerringly faithful, and determined that Elin find the home she deserves.

Although "sweet" tends to get a bad rap in romance novels, i just found this couple and the path they walk one of the sweetest Donna has ever written.

My only mild criticism is that because this is series is one with shorter books, much of their time getting to know each other is by necessity compressed and understood "off camera".. this lead to a little bit of a rushed feel which left me simply wishing for a longer book!!

I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series!!

I'd read the Kindred series quite a long time ago and it had such a different vibe from the Dark World books I'd read and loved before I stumbled onto Eversong. And now bringing me back to this world of magic and highlanders, and managing to keep it so different from her other magic and highlanders, was exactly what I forgot that I needed.

Rob seemed a bit too simple for Elin when we first met him. Bravery and kindness, sure, those were there, but he was kind of lucky to be born in the position he was in...except his heart and desire to do what's right, to protect his family, gave him a quiet strength that grew as the story progressed.

Elin, on the other hand, was a powerhouse with a truck load of hurt to battle. She had the skills and knowledge to impress but needed someone to love her, to accept her, to support her, and stand by her. Abandoned and derided at every turn in her life she could hardly expect something different. But in Rob she found a true friend, and then she saw her person in that friend she'd grown to trust.

There are things that will be further discussed and worked through as the series continues and I really can't wait for book two to get here. This book, the Kindres series as a whole, is a quieter but no less powerful story that hits differently than the Dragon Kings, the Immortal Warriors, the Reapers, and the Dark Kings. With every bit the same amount of magic, strong female leads, supernatural peril, and paths to discovery and love, this book sets itself apart as something both familiar and intriguing.

Rage is the first book in the spinoff of Donna Grant’s Kindred series. When the Kindred series wrapped up, there were some characters that the readers wanted stories for. Lucky for us, so did Ms. Grant.
We find Elin living alone in Scotland after the events of Everspell. She misses her longtime friend, the Gira, Asrail but knew she was better off being on her own – it was easier that way when, not if, she had to move again. She did not expect to grow close to Rob, the brother of the local laird, who found her living in the cottage. She intended to live her life without using magic. When she hears that there has been sickness, and death, in Rob’s clan & that his brother says that they are cursed, Elin decides to help.
Elin realized that another witch had cursed Rob’s clan. She also realized she has fallen for Rob even though she knows they can never be together because she would always be hiding a part of herself. When certain events happen, Elin realizes she can no longer hide what she is – from Rob or his clan. This leads to showdown with the other witch. Of course, Donna Grant made sure what happens is exciting and explosive. She even had another familiar character show up at the end, now we just have to wait for that character’s story.

This is the eagerly awaited first book in a spinoff series from Grant’s Kindred series. Elin is a witch who sacrificed much to save her sister who in turn betrayed her. She is quite alone and wandering the (medieval?) highlands of Scotland trying to stay off of everyone’s radar. She resists using her magic to prevent being tracked and finds an abandoned cottage to live in. She resigned to being alone for the rest of her life when Rob, the laird’s brother discovers her in the cottage. He is searching for someone to help with a mysterious illness that is killing many in their clan, including the laird’s fiance.
Although she is hesitant to use her magic, her kind heart doesn’t allow her to deny Rob help to save his clan. Of course being suspected as a witch in medieval times is a death sentence but Rob is drawn to her regardless.
This was a wonderful beginning to the spinoff. Although it helps to know the backstory, this book can be read as a standalone. Warning though, you’ll want to read the Kindred stories afterwards and it will help you pass the time until the next book in the Fated series comes out. Thank you to the author for continuing to create worlds for readers to become immersed in. Please keep them coming!

This is the first book I've read in the Kindred series and I can tell I missed a bunch of stuff. Though I don't know all of Elin's back story, I could still follow along. She has found herself an abandoned cabin in the Scottish Highlands and made it livable. The glen where it is located is isolated and at least a day's walk from the Laird's castle so no one has found her. She knows she will have to move on before someone discovers her and reports her presence. She is a witch but she is not using her magic. Magic is what got her here - alone and hunted by the Coven. It is also what could get her killed if the non-witches find out what she is. When she sees the man on horseback heading to her cottage, she hides and waits for him to leave so she can pack and get out of there. But this man is not so easily fooled and sneaks up behind her.

I won't spoil the story for you. It is, of course, a love story. Elin has never been in love and knows she can't let Rob find out what she is. Rob knows Elin is hiding something from him but he doesn't care what it is - he justs wants her. But Rob's brother, the Laird, wants him to marry a woman from another clan. A woman who turns out to have a secret of her own.

A historical romance set in the Scottish Highlands where a witch who is running for her life begins to fight for the life she's always deserved.

Elin is hiding in a cottage forced to live a life isolated. She's a witch on the run from those who fear the unknown, but also from her own kind. All she wants is to live in peace.

Rob is on the search for a healer. There's a sickness afflicting his clan back at the castle and comes across Elin on his quest to find help before more lives are lost. Despite the risk o herself, Elin helps. Rob's gratefulness turns into more. His visits to see her are what he looks forward to the most. He's falling for Elin, but she continues to keep secrets that she fears will make him turn his back on her because everyone has to date.

I really felt for Elin. She lost her mother at a young age and her sister went down a dark path to her death. Despite her loss and forced isolation due to magical abilities, she is resilient and compassionate in a world that shows her none.

Rob is the laird's brother–which comes with responsibilities and perceived duties. He is a man of honour and is willing to go against his brother for Elin not only to follow his heart but also to do the right thing.

I enjoyed this quick read with its magical creatures and love story.
