Knight Protector Portia Daysen and Captain Valia Iceborn may have rescued the legendary black wyvern hatchling from one peril, but the struggle for his freedom – and their lives – is just beginning.
The route to safety lies across the perilous Sea of Mists. But those treacherous waters can only be navigated by moonlight.
With a Northern knight and a Southern inquisitor on their tails, each hellbent on revenge, the pair is running out of time and options.
But there are worse things than their pursuers lurking in the Sea of Mists…

Like the previous books, an engaging story that kept me guessing throughout it. We don't see much of Portia and Valia's story progressing, I mean they're on scene often, but the focus, IMHO, was to progress the main plot, I mean the whole war between races and so on. But it also made the reading a bit tiresome, after 60% I skimmed a bit, specially when the POV jumped to some unpleasant characters that I didn't care at all. I can see why we would see it, but I could easily go without them. I gave it a 4 because 3 or 3.5 would be too low, but I wish I could mark it lower, just this once.
Anyway, shit got even realer than before and I mostly enjoyed the outcomes, but NGL the last 2 chapters left me with a bitter taste in my mouth that brings another angle we should keep a watch over. I cannot believe I'll have to wait 2024 to know what's to come to our beloveds now.
Saving the wyvern was one thing. Getting it home is something else entirely.
This is book three of the series. It actually okay as a standalone, but this series is fairly sequential so it will be a better experience if read in order.
This story offers an interesting blend of science and magic, such as energy weapons, elf magic and dragons. The setting is fascinating and we get to another piece of it in this story, which was really nice. Our characters are well developed with solid backgrounds and distinct personalities. Their interactions make the story come alive and provide an occasional bit of humor as well. The plot includes some intrigue and some action which keep things moving. Overall, highly enjoyable and I am definitely looking forward to the next book.
Sea of Mists (Knight Protector: Black Wyvern Book 3), my forty-seventh read from author Rachel Ford. This epic fantasy book is so well-written & enjoyable, no matter the genre a Rachel Ford book can be counted on to be entertaining & enjoyable. The action really ratchets up in this, the 3rd book in an outstanding series. I look forward to the next book in the series, The Devil's Daughter (Knight Protector: Black Wyvern Book 4). “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
The continuing story of Black Wyvern series. Great read of how Valia and Portia are trying to get Cadfael to sanctuary while Kutarian is trying to thwart them. Caelia is being offered up in marriage to the grand inquisitor despite her best efforts. Takis after being marooned is trying to get back to Portia. All the various parties trying to solve their problems. Left hanging at the end! Can’t wait for the next book!
I have really enjoyed this series. It is well written and easy to follow. This book was a little frustrating to me at times as I felt like their were more pieces that weren’t really important, and some of that may be set up for future books. I was sad that their was little on Portia and Valia who were the characters I loved more from the first two books.
Another winner from Rachel Ford, I always enjoyed getting to read something from her. This was a great third entry in the series, it had the same magical feel going on and I was glad the characters felt the same. It left me wanting to read more.

What an amazing story. Rescuing a black Wyvern hatchling from one danger doesn’t mean there aren’t more to worry about. Intriguing characters that make the book interesting. Can’t wait for more.
This series of books are outstanding! Imaginative, adventure and lots of action keep you spellbound with a touch of romance added for spice and good measure.
This is the first book that I have read in the series and I certainly feel that I am missing something. The story starts with a pirate ship female captain and a magical Northern knight female Elf who has had her magical necklace stolen. A wivern is their protectee and they must take it to safety by crossing part of the Sea of Mist. However, an inquisitor is after them along with a Dragon and a Dragon riding witch without forgetting the giant octopus.
In all fairness, the book is well written but to fully grasp the story, I must read the series from the beginning to understand what the h... Is going on. Because of the quality of the writing, I rate the book 3 Stars and reserve the right to review the rating once I have read the complete series.
