There is a part of me that loves reading dark romance novels with totally messed up storylines and a cast of morally corrupt characters, including a "hero" that's an alpha-hole on steroids.
Make him a tattooed, bad boy with a criminal past and a taste for black t-shirts and hard liquor....
Even better.
I like what I like.
Which, is why, for the most part, I avoid romance novels involving princes, athletes and any stories with quintessential “nice guys.”
But then, there is another part of me that is a total SUCKER for the saves-the-day-hero-with-a-heart-of-gold.
Reality me can’t handle cowboy hats. My husband owns one and I tell him he can’t wear it while mowing our grass because we don't live on a farm. We don't even live in the south. We live in the suburbs on the east coast for goodness sakes. I’m also scared of horses (I knew a girl that got her nose bit off by one) and I can't really stomach the smells on animal farms and I don’t eat red meat.
However, in fiction, I HEART COWBOYS!!!! Their swagger, their heart, their work ethic. And yes, even their fashion.
I also love a good small town romance with its idyllic scenery and cast of endearing side characters.
A Hero’s Honor had all of these things and more!
Former Navy SEAL, Travis Kincaid, is a police chief in a middle of nowhere town in Kansas. He works hard and enjoys his job, although, his dream is to get his family’s ranch back up and running. He’s hot, broody and has a heart of gold and is also totally head over heels for Elaine, a young single mother with a secret past.
Tessa Layne is a new author for me and I will most certainly be reading more of her work! She created a hero and heroine that I both adored and rooted for and her story was incredibly well written. I loved the characters' back stories, the chemistry between Travis and Elaine and the pacing of the plot. I highly recommend this book to those that love small town cowboy romances and to those that don’t know that they do.
Also, this book is currently free on Amazon, so GET IT!!!!
This was a nice story. Easy read. Appreciated the characters dealing with the aftermath of a natural disaster. Was different and added depth to the story.
The boy was cute even if a bit of an underdeveloped character.
The story did get abit repetitive at times. The h's avoidance of the truth even though it was clear where the story was going was annoying. 🤦🏽♀️
Mostly because it was clear with the pacing that the author didn't plan on giving that part of the plot time to resolve. It was all rushed. So, I was just left frustrated that this big situation unfolded and I'm just supposed to instantly be ok with both the H and h.🙄
So, based on how the second half of the book went, this is a 3.5 ⭐

The only negative I really have about this book is I felt as if I was picking up a book in the middle of a series. I didn’t realize this was actually a spin-off of another series. However, even though there was obviously some back story, like a tornado that had recently destroyed the town, this book can stand on its own. Travis is a former SEAL that has some PTSD issues that he has never really dealt with other than becoming the best sheriff he can be. Elaine is a single mom struggling to straighten out her life when it is majorly impacted by the tornado. Even though Travis feels he is all wrong for Elaine, the attraction can’t be denied. This was a sweet contemporary romance with very likeable characters. Well with one exception they are all likeable. I’m looking forward to more in this series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.
When I accepted an offer to read and review what I thought was the first book in a new series by an author whose work I'd not yet read, I found the subject and title of this book and series appealing. What I did not know was that this new series is a spin-off of the author's previous series, and as I started reading it, that fact became readily apparent because the town in which this novel is set, Prairie, Kansas, had already been nearly flattened by a tornado, lives had been lost, and the remaining residents were in the process of trying to rebuild the town, their homes and their lives. Clearly, there were characters other readers had encountered in the previous series, and I would have appreciated a prologue that would have summarized some or all of what occurred in that series, at least, perhaps a lead-in that included the events surrounding the tornado. It's for that reason that I could only give this novel a 4-star rating.
Aside from feeling as though I'd walked into the middle of a series, rather than its beginning, I was drawn into the story almost immediately, granted, I was confused by characters I didn't know who clearly knew each other, but these characters came to life in what turned out to be a well-written and engaging story about a Navy SEAL with PTSD turned police chief, Travis, and the pretty waitress and single mom, Elaine and her 7-year-old son, Dax, who'd caught his eye almost as soon as she came to town 2 years earlier. She'd been working at the local diner, which was also destroyed by the tornado, but a makeshift open-air cafe and food truck soon replaced it and became a meeting place for the residents.
As the residents are starting over, so too is Elaine. Travis isn't the only character keeping secrets about his PTSD nightmares and his falling out with his younger brother, Colton (I'm assuming this was covered in the previous series). Elaine too is keeping secrets, and the last thing she should be doing is carrying a crush on the handsome police chief, but this is a romance after all, and I'm a sucker for a second chance trope.
In addition to the romance, the suspense, and the secrets to be revealed, there is also a backstory that involves the healing effect that working with horses often provides to wounded warriors and victims of trauma. While it isn't mentioned in this novel, I was already aware of the good work being done pairing mentally, physically, and emotionally challenged children and adults with horses (or therapy dogs in some cases), and the success of those programs. I'm grateful to Ms. Layne for adding wounded warriors to those efforts.
In addition, these well-developed characters and the aforementioned tropes combine to create a truly heartwarming and emotional tale of challenges met and overcome, the true meaning of community, and of people strong and sensitive enough to care for and rally around those in need. I'm looking forward to following this new series, and to catching up on the earlier series, and I think you'll come away from this novel feeling the same way.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.
Travis Kincaid has spent his whole life taking care of people, and he wouldn't have it any other way. He had to help take care of his brother Dalton when his mother left. He was a Navy Seal who carried out many dangerous missions for his country, and one of those missions resulted in the loss of half of his Seal Team. When he returned home to Prairie, Kansas, he was a different man, filled with guilt over the loss of his friends. The nightmares of the event plagued him for years, but with time, they grew less and less frequent. HIs job as the Police Chief of Prairie keeps him busy and he takes pride in assuring the safety of his community. However, he was powerless to keep them safe from a tornado that destroyed most of the town. He did save the life of a little boy, but was unable to save another. HIs nightmares returned with a vengeance and he found it hard to fall asleep at night. The only bright spot in his day is seeing Elaine Ryder when he goes for coffee. Travis loves her big blue eyes, calming voice and kind spirit. She usually ignores him, but she just recently began giving him a shy smile when she brought him his coffee. He wasn't sure what this meant, but he would like to find out. Elaine has had a crush on Travis since she began working at Dottie's Diner two years ago. She loves his sexy smile, piercing eyes and his strong work ethic. Travis saved her son Dax during the tornado, and for that he will always be her hero. She came to Prairie for a fresh start and she loves everything about the small town. She has things in her past that she is ashamed of and she just wants to be accepted for the woman she has become, not who she used to be. The first time she saw Travis she felt a deep connection and she hoped that one day she had the courage to open her heart to the possibility of love. Whenever their hands touch over his coffee cup, she feels a tingle go up her arm and her heart starts pounding. Elaine senses that Travis feels the same way about her, but she doesn't know what to do about it. Will Travis be able to overcome the tremendous guilt he feels about his past ? Will he finally admit that Elaine and Dax are his future? And will Elaine be open to that future, or will her past come between her and Travis? " A Hero's Honor" is the first book in the new Resolution Ranch Series by Tessa Layne. The companion series, Cowboys of Flint Hills, also takes place in Prairie. This new series revolves around military heroes and their return home to the small town. Travis is brave, humble and ready for love and he finds this with Elaine. Together, they will conquer their demons and help rebuild Prairie back to the charming little town it was before the tornado. Tessa has given us a wonderful story about love, trust and forgiveness. I love all of her books and I look forward to the next book in the series, "A Hero's Heart."
This is book 1 of Ms Layne’s new spinoff series titled Military Heroes of the Flint Hills. I had not read any other books by this author and have to say that I truly enjoyed this story. I do have a caveat. Though it is considered a stand alone, the assumption is made that the reader has read books in her series the Cowboys of the Flint Hills. References are made about a tornado that had occurred in those books, which have an impact on the new series. Also characters from that series are prominent in this new one and it’s assumed that the reader knows them as well of the tornado. As a new reader, I would have appreciated a prologue that at least explained the tornado and some of those characters. All that said, it’s an engaging story filled with well developed characters. It’s a story about second chances in life, in this case, Elaine, an unwed mother who is still paying for the mistakes of her youth, A youth that was not easy . She will do anything to protect her sweet boy. Elaine has worked hard and has found a home and a new beginning in this town. Travis is one of the town’s deputy and has a crush on her. He was a Navy SEAL, and still has nightmares of the last mission . The author creates a heartbreaking, but also heartwarming story with imperfect and very likable characters. But what I liked best, was how she reminds us that we need to do more for those brave men and women that are willing to serve our country and die for our freedom. Upon their return. we need to help them not only to integrate back to civil life, but also with their physical and emotional scars. Kudos to the author for that reminder. I was gifted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This was the first book I have read of Tessa Layne's and it won't be the last. I would not suggest reading this book before reading the other series it's associated with first. As far as Travis and Elaine's story I didn't really feel lost. For everyone else I was a bit lost. I always love the stories where the h and H have known each other for forever but don't act on their attraction until they know they love each other but don't know it. It's the sweetest best thing ever! I was bummed that things with Lawson didn't get resolved but I have a feeling we will have to deal with him in later books. I loved this whole book and other than feeling a bit lost and not everything resolved it was a great read!
Police Chief Travis is a retired Navy SEAL who is having problems dealing with the loss of his unit in duty. Afraid of losing people he cares about again, he is trying to keep control of his life. He lives with a strict set of rules about relationships like never dating local women, women with kids or younger women. The problem is he is having strong feelings for Elaine who breaks all his rules. She is a young, single mother who lives in his town. Travis wants to stay away from Elaine but he has feels responsible for her and her son since the tornado went through town. He son was buried in the rubble of a destroyed house until Travis found him. Everybody in town trusts and likes Travis and that is why he is being pushed to run for sheriff since the other candidate is a jerk. Elaine is a struggling single mother with a past she isn't proud of. Since she moved to town, she is determined to start a new and better life. The tornado has almost destroyed her new start. She almost lost her son in the destruction.Of the 2 jobs she was working to make ends meet, one disappeared when the library was destroyed. Her other job as a waitress was in danger when the diner was destroyed but the owner took pity on her and has her helping out at the food truck until the diner is rebuilt. Elaine doesn't trust men or police but Travis makes her feel safe. Travis helps her get treatment for her son's trauma after the tornado. Travis also gives her a job as campaign treasurer when he runs for office. Elaine doesn't know want to make of Travis because one day he kisses her and then he pushes her away and says they should act professionally. This is a great story about two people who are damaged from their past trying to come together but will their secrets tear them apart? I voluntarily received a copy of this story and this is my honest review. I can't wait to read more Redemption Ranch books.
Books are my one great escape. A chance to live in someone else's life for a short time.
This is my first time reading a book by Tessa Layne but definitely not my last.
Elaine Ryder works at a food truck which was brought in by her employer after a tornado wrecked the town of Prairie, Kansas which included the diner. She has a secret that she has only shared with one person, Dottie her boss. She has a big crush on the Chief of Police and the zing that goes up her arm whenever he touches her has as she pours his coffee always leaves her swooning. But what would he want with a woman like her.
Travis Kincaid is the Chief of Police and he has a big crush on Elaine Ryder, the waitress at the food truck that was brought in by Dottie after a tornado destroyed half the town of Prairie including her diner. He never gets tired of the zing that runs up his arm any time their fingers touch when she serves his coffee in fact he craves it.
This book pulled me in and held my attention til the end. It is filled with so many feels and at times brought tears to my eyes. As Elaine and Travis struggle to keep their feelings for each other hidden, but the electricity is always there. Then without warning Travis' opponent in the County Sheriff's election pulls out the dirty tricks and exposes Elaine's secret thus driving a wedge between she and Travis.
Will Elaine and Travis be able to overcome this obstacle and actually have the HEA that both think they are headed for. Grab yourself a copy of this book, buckle up and enjoy the ride because you will definitely enjoy this book.
Elaine a woman who has been in Prairie for a couple of years now, with the recent Tornado that almost took her son away from her, and working hard at Dotties food truck. Elaine is the type of woman how has lived through so much and thinks she doesnt deserve everything because of the things she has done in her past. She def doesnt think she deserves Travis the town Police Chief, Travis has had his eye on Elaine since she first came to town but he has his rules and she doesnt pass any of them.
What I enjoyed most about A Hero's Honor was watching two lost Souls find each other and find what they needed with each other. Seeing how Travis was always watching out for her and her son Dax and how he took her son under his wing after the Tornado. Watching Elaine try to fight it because she thought he deserved better but also falling into him and how he was with her son and then how he treated her.
This was a fantastic read, I loved every minute it kept you wanting more. This book has Travis a ex Navy SEAL that has his demons with the loss he experienced at war which made him have all these rules but he finds he is letting them go as he gets closer to Elaine, Elaine a woman who has lived through so much as a single mom but doing what she needs to do by working 7 days a week to keep a roof and food in her sons tummy, a love story. If you like stories like this, then A Hero's Honor is a must!
I read this book as part of the Protected By A Hero Box Set. I enjoyed it so much I started reading the Cowboys of the Flint Hills, to get to know the characters who are mentioned in this story. If you're following my blog, you'll see yesterday I posted the book where this Tornado occurs, Prairie Storm. Don't miss that one. It just made sense to review this one by itself here at this time.
Prairie, Kansas is rebuilding from a EF4 tornado. So much destruction and yet the town has come together to start the arduous process.
Dottie's Diner now a pile of rubble has morphed into a food truck across from it's original location. A place for folks to gather and share news it's where we meet the main characters in this tale.
Chief Travis has a thing for Elaine, Dottie's waitress. Of course he'll never admit it, he has relationship rules, rules that his friend and deputy chief Weston thinks need to be broken. Weston also thinks Travis should run for sheriff which he eventually agrees to do.
Even as Travis battles his feelings the sparks fly between him and Elaine. Her son Dex wins his heart as well as they work closely on the campaign.
Elaine does have a secret she's keeping from him though and it's one that could ruin his chances of winning.
Lots of fun, plenty of drama and a finish that has me wanting more of all these characters.
What an exciting start to what looks like an amazing new series.
I have been a huge fan of the series - Cowboys of Flint Hills. When I heard there was going to be a spin off I very excited to read it and this book didn't disappoint.
You got a taste of Travis in one of Mrs. Layne's other books but it plays so well in this book. Travis is a former Navy SEAL who is still carrying the burden of a op gone wrong. He has a lot of guilt over it so he has put up roadblocks in his life to prevent himself from "feeling". However, he can't seem to stop the feelings he has concerning Elaine, a woman who he has been secretly interested in for the past two years.
Elaine is a single mom who is just trying to make it. She has done things in her past that she isn't proud of but works every day to make sure that she is doing right by her son and by the people that she cares about.
When these two start working together after being pushed together by a friend, they can't seem to escape the sparks that arise when they are around each other. This was fun and hot to read!
Boring! Took me took much time to finish reading it. I don't know if it was because I read the guilty pleasure series and there was a continuance and constant mentioning of the characters. I was trying to remember who is who...
Great characters. Great backstory. Great plot line. However, the author has resorted to making the book Xrated with graphic sex scenes which could have been left out or just suggested.
This was a new author to me who came highly recommended so I am really glad I got to read one of their books. Overall I really enjoyed it, three things got to me though. I did not like Weston at all. He was pushy, all but forcing Travis to run for sheriff. Travis was the one running for the position and Weston kept coming up with more ideas to push him that he did not want to do. So not only was Travis convinced into it the way he wanted to do it was not respected. How everyone turned against Travis when Elaine's secret was revealed. I get why Elaine didn't want to say, it was personal and difficult for her. She knew about Lawson's intentions that he would bring it up, she could have headed it off. Though as someone who has not been in that situation before I will not judge her for that. However, Travis was blind sighted and lost all that money he saved for his dream. I can see why he was upset. Dottie shouted at him, Weston shouted at him and Elaine accused him of not trusting her and thinking the worst of her when she herself had not trusted him. Travis was not allowed to make any of the big decisions himself. Everyone else jumped in. Weston told him to run for sheriff. Dottie ruined the moment he was trying to apologise, prompting him to marry Elaine. Give him a chance! Then Weston then decides what is happening to the ranch, mentioning it in front of everyone who then jumps in on the idea.
I did love the two main characters. They were well thought out with interesting back stories. Travis was absolutely perfect with Dax. I am glad Lawson got punched, I would have liked to have read what happened next with him but who knows! Maybe it will be in a future book, a perfect opportunity to keep reading and find out. Dax's transformation was lovely, going from scared little boy and growing more confident. Travis reached out to his brother! He may be could have been more tolerant to Colton but we don't know the full story there. I am glad he called his brother and that he turned up for the wedding. I did like the idea of how the ranch was used. It flowed well and was a quick and easy read. Overall it is a great start and I would happily read more!

A Hero’s Honor, Resolution Ranch is book 1 in the Flint Hills Military Heroes series by Tessa Layne and an excellent start for this military series and the beginning of Resolution Ranch which is to help those returning home to have a place to ease back into civilian life. We first read about Travis and Elaine in the series Cowboys of Flint Hills series and now the homegrown boys are coming back home to Prairie.
Travis Kincaid is a homegrown man of Prairie, Kansas who left for the military and became a Navy Seal. For years he served his country until one dangerous mission and they lost half of the team. He blames himself for the loss of his men and left the military to return home to become the Police Chief. He takes pride in keeping his town and the people safe until a tornado swirls through the town and destroys most of it. Now the nightmares have come back for his service days with a vengeance and he is getting no sleep but the best part of his day is seeing Elaine at the diner for his daily coffee and just her presence helps him to settle him.
Elaine Ryder is a single mom who is trying to make ends meet with two jobs since the town was destroyed by a tornado and to find a way to help her son return to the happy boy he was before the tornado hit. She looks forward to Travis coming to the diner for coffee but she thinks she is not good enough for the Chief of Police due to her not so nice past but she knows there is a deep connection between them.
Can these two find a way to get over the things in their past and move forward to find their HEA and help rebuild Prairie to be better than ever or will the past keep them apart??
When disaster strikes the small town of Prairie the community comes together and supports one another. Elaine doesn't think she's included because she hasn't been there all that long and is afraid of both her past coming to demolish her efforts at a new life and that she'll wear out her welcome with how much she needs the good graces of those around her. What she doesn't realize is that they've already adopted her and her son, Dax, as their own. She also doesn't see the interest of a certain police chief who can't seem to untie his tongue around her. For the last two years they've danced around one another and are still oblivious to the other person's interest. With a few well-timed nudges from friends they find a way to get closer.
Getting closer, however, is fraught with all kinds of struggles. Travis and his rules, Elaine's reluctance to take risks, his job, her jobs, his past, her past...all these things swirl around just under the surface that their love will have to fight tooth and nail to find any kind of satisfaction. Their desire is potent and their chemistry draws them back to one another time and time again. When the past is revealed in a less-than-ideal way their faith in each other is tested and they have to decide what they truly want their future to look like and whether there's a place for them in it.
I especially like that Elaine was strong and determined despite her past, or maybe really because of it. With tragedy and such a low place to come from she managed to stay a good woman with a good heart and raise a wonderful boy. Then finding a strong, protective, supportive man? Greatness. Overall this was a wonderful story and I'm really excited for the subsequent books and learning all about the men and their women at Resolution Ranch.
I voluntarily read an ARC of this book for an honest review.
Travis Kincaid is a rigid man who has to have control and a firm routine in order to get through his days. He returns home, leaving the Navy after a mission that went south, and becomes the Police Chief of Prairie, Kansas. His last mission in the Navy was hard and leaves him scarred. Returning to the ranch he was raised on and wants restore it to and start ranching again, but he can't do it alone. He is a kind man who cares about the people of his small town.He feels as though he has failed his small town when a tornado tears through the town and destroys a large part of the downtown.
Elaine Ryder, is a single mom who is working two jobs to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. She has a past that she is ashamed of and is trying to overcome while raising her 7 year old son, Dax. The tornado devastated Prairie, but the fear that it causes Dax has made him change. The once fun loving little boy has become a quiet scared little boy who has withdrawn into himself.
This book hits a lot of hard subjects and they are handled really well in the story. The characters are scarred, but they are strong and very likable.
I really enjoyed this story and look forward to reading the next one in the series when it comes out. I think I need to go back and read Tessa's "Prairie Heat" series now.
The Hero's in this series are strong, rugged, sexy, and very Alpha. If you enjoy a story about a Military Hero who is finding his way outside of the service to his country, and a strong woman who has had her share of pain, come together to help each other heal, then you should read this book.
I so didn’t want this read by Tessa Layne to end and both Travis and Elaine with her son Dax stole the show in an amazing story of Travis, the chief of police in a small town and Elaine, a single mother trying to start new and giving a life to her son that he deserves. She’s been in town for 2 years now and Travis has had an eye on her since the beginning but has never made a move. He has rules and they are stifling, but one by one he breaks the rules because he can’t deny himself anymore. Elaine has been trying hard to get ahead and her past is one she wants to forget and move forward but when the two get close while he’s running for Sherrif her past may come to haunt both of them and hinder his chances. What a read of not only some steamy scenes but they were sensual to top it off with the intimacy they shared but not only that I loved how they have known each other for two years so when they fall in love it’s not insta anything which makes it all that much more when they use the word love. Travis is a good man with a good heart not resorting to underhanded tactics and trying to win on his own merit but not only that he treats Dax like his own, a man you would want in your corner if needed. Elaine is amazing, with everything she went through but stuck it out because of her son when she could have easily went any other way instead of becoming a hard working, selfless, kind woman that she is. An amazing great read and now I can’t wait to read about the others and of course reading about Colton, the long lost brother of Travis who finally returns home. *I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book*
**Well look at that - I read them exactly 3 years apart lol
**Also called A Hero's Devotion
The couple: Travis and Elaine
Romance trope: single mom Series: Resolution Ranch Length: 250 pages
Plot: Travis has rules to give his life structure. He's a natural protector but protects his heart above all. But Elaine, the sweet single mother waitress, has him wanting to break the rules. Will he let her and her son in or will he run scared?
Commentary: Travis has a weird list of rules when it comes to dating - nobody from his town, nobody too much younger than him, they must always lock their doors. He's really suffering from ptsd, although it's been a while since he's been to counseling. But he has good people around him to remind him when he needs to ask for help and when he's being ridiculous. Elaine had much the same problem and she found the support system she needed in her new small town. I felt so bad for her because she had such a rough start and so much of it was beyond her control. I did feel a little lost coming in after the tornado rather than seeing it happen - it felt like starting in the middle of the story and missing some information, just a little. But still, it was a good story.
3.5 stars, rounded up. My feelings about this story kind of tear me up. I love a hero in uniform. As a former SEAL and current law man, Travis has worn two of them. So that right there should automatically put this book on the high side of my opinion. I loved watching Travis and Elaine try to fight their growing feelings for one another. This is where I liked predictable – you know they’re going to give in no matter how hard they fight it. And the interactions between Dax and Travis were so adorable. But then we got to the predictable that I didn’t enjoy so much. I was so excited for the last book I read set in Prairie, because finally the angst wasn’t created by the secrets the main characters were keeping, it was the circumstances keeping them apart that caused the drama. I was really disappointed to see that we’ve returned to the leading characters not being honest with one another. There are so many other ways to create tension without the hero or heroine (or both) lying to each other that it felt like this story took the easy route. And the smarmy villain and his pathetic shakedown was just too obvious. As soon as he showed up on scene, I’m pretty sure we all knew what was going to happen there, and Elaine should have known it too. Even though this book made me grind my teeth, there’s still lots of stuff going on in Prairie that I want to know more about.
I received this book as a freebie with no obligation to leave my honest review! This book really wowed me, it's the first book I've read from this author and I have no doubts I will be picking up some more. Really enjoyed the style of writing and I felt the book just flowed so nicely with a great plot, characters and world building. As I was reading, it did feel a little like I should have known of some of the other characters mentioned and found later its a spin-off series, not a problem as it was easy to follow. Travis was so great, I mean he was smoking hot but he had his flaws, being rigid with his rules and a little quick to judge, it was great to see him grow throughout the story and by the end of it he was pretty perfect in my book. Elaine was such a strong and determined character who only wanted to provide the best for her son Dax and leave behind her troubled past. What a great community pulling together after a natural disaster with lots of amazing secondary characters, who you can see have the potential for their own books. I'm really looking forward to reading more from this author.
I loved Travis and Elaine’s story. It was beautiful how Elaine was working hard for a second chance in life and Travis was working hard at not living. Yet the two of them coming together helped them both rise above their own insecurities and reach and achieve their individual goals together. It was sweet how Travis did not just embrace his feelings for Elaine but also allowed feelings for her son Dax to evolve and grow. I am glad the county sheriff election turned out the way it did, it really helped propel Travis into figuring out what was truly important. I have come to love this town and the people in it like I live there and it is my own. I always have to remind myself that it is a fictional town. It is a credit to Tessa Layne’s writing that every time I finish one of her books I have to take a moment to come back to reality. I become so immersed in the story that it feels real. Great job. I can’t wait for the next book.
***I received a copy of this book for a voluntary, completely honest, and non-incentivized review.***
Travis Kincaid has been the police chief of Flint Hills for longer than Elaine has been in town, but she has been in awe of him from the beginning. He always treated her as if she mattered. Travis has been drawn to Elaine since he first saw her, but he has rules that he follows and that keeps him from moving forward with anyway with Elaine. Even though he can not get her out of his head. When Travis runs for Sheriff he needs a campaign treasurer and Elaine is great at numbers, and as they work together they can not deny their mutual attraction and where it leads. But Elaine has had a hard life and has done her best to make it through even if that meant not always being on the straight and narrow. Flint Hills is her second chance, but will the past ruin her future? And can Travis, a rule follower, be what Elaine needs? This was a wonderful start to a new series spin off of Flint Hills and it is great that all the other characters are still there. I can not wait to see more of Flint Hills and its crazy wonderful cast of characters.
This is a great book about healing, love, trust, and family. I have read all of Tessa's books, and this one.....is perfect start to her new series inspired by an amazing organization called Heroes and Horses in Montana. They work with veterans with PTSD. Make sure to check out their website.
In this book you will see characters from the first series: Cowboys of the Flint Hills. You don't need to read them to get started with this book. Tessa does an amazing job of introducing everyone in a way you will understand connections. I would personally suggest you read them too because one is better than the next.
You will see Travis and Elaine grow and trust as individuals and as a couple. As their love grows, something or someone comes between them. Are they strong enough to stick it out? Read and find out.
Tessa, thank you for writing about our service men and women who have served in the military. Their struggles are real and your stories allow us to see a glimpse of their lives. I can't wait to read more about Resolution Ranch.
