The Right Wrong Match

Rate this book
They say the best way to get over someone is to date somebody else.

I didn’t ask to have a hopeless (and unrequited) crush on my best friend’s grumpy older brother.

For years, I’ve had feelings for Luke Brooks, but it’s time to move on—I’m on a mission to find my perfect match and secure my very own happily-ever-after.

Until one tiny mishap with a dating app lands me a new job: Planning singles events for the whole town.

Which seems simple enough… until the town council forces Luke to play cupid with me.

And as I discover the soft side beneath Luke’s grumpy exterior, getting over my crush becomes a whole lot more complicated.

Especially as it’s starting to look like my feelings might not be so unrequited, after all…

The Right Wrong Match is a sweet romcom with plenty of swoony kisses and chemistry, a hilarious cast of quirky small-town characters, and a heartwarming HEA that’s sure to give you all the feels.

Luke is Daisy's best friend's older brother, a well overdone trope, but we're sometimes here for it. Daisy is the epitome of hustle culture, which I also hate, because we should be able to make a living wage from one job. Politics aside, these two were a little messy. Luke is reeling from being left at the altar. Daisy is just kind of sad. When they meet on a dating app under false names and pretenses, only one of them realizes it's the other. Obviously, a little chaos ensues.

Daisy’s like that, though, even at the worst of times: sweet, unfailingly optimistic, and believing the best of every person and every situation. I am none of those things.

In the Love in Mirror Valley series, the second book titled "The Right Wrong Match" features Daisy and Luke as the main characters. Their love story is a heartwarming and romantic tale of two people who have always been in close proximity to each other, but their timing was never right.

However, they have now reached a point where they can finally make things work between them. And just in time, as Daisy was about to give up on what she thought was an unrequited crush. Because even when his engagement ended, Luke avoided dating and being set up with anyone.

Nonetheless, it seems that fate has finally intervened, and Daisy and Luke may have a chance at a happily ever after. What we get is this sweet, feel-good romance with maybe a few too many tropes in my opinion, but that’s just me.

I listened The Right Wrong Match as an audiobook, and I liked both narrators.

If you want to see my much more in depth review, you can check it out on my book blog NovelOnMyMind.

A cute, sweet, and sometimes funny little romance. It did feel like he fell for her pretty quickly once all the secrets came out but they did basically online date before then so I guess I can buy it.

🌀Synopsis
Daisy has been in love with Luke for ages but, knowing he doesn’t have feelings for her, she’s decided it’s time to move on. Online dating is the new scene so she decides to give it a shot! It works great until a glitch sets up an accidental event which, coincidentally lands her another job.
Luke happens to be part of said event and gets volunteered to help Daisy. The two of them are raising money to save the community center. As they spend more time with each other their attraction grows. Turns out they had been talking on the app and the message that got Daisy in trouble was only intended for Luke.
They start a cute little romance until Luke’s ex shows up. He’s determined that Daisy is the one though and willing to prove it.

What we have here is some small town, dating app, mistaken identity, best friend’s brother mashed-up goodness! Ever since reading the first book in this series I have been dying to read Luke and Daisy’s story too, and it did not disappoint!

Things I Loved:
-Friends, first date, or married
-Eddie
-Trope list
-RightMatch messages
-Message glitch
-Hashtag Save-The-Center!
-“I would’ve said yes.”
-“Something’s changed. I can’t explain it, I can’t understand it. But something is definitely different. And it’s all because of Daisy Griffiths.”
-Noah and all his cheekiness 😂
-“‘Dee, do you have any of those ice cream bars left?’
‘You’re lactose intolerant.’
‘Only sometimes.’”
-Toe-pocalypse
-“Changing of the grouchy guards”
-Cacti
-“I’m thinking about trying something new.”
-“Who would’ve thought that ‘best friend’s grumpy older brother/co-matchmaker/online date mistaken identity’ would be the trope(s) for me?”
-Just one second
-Speech
-“My whole life, I think I had these hopes and expectations of the perfect ending, a fairytale happily-ever-after. But the thing is, that’s still an ending. The story is finished. And relationships don’t just end after the happily-ever-after. They require hard work and messiness sometimes. But you know what? It means that we don’t get just one happily-ever-after, we get many.”

So, in other words, go grab this book. You won’t regret it. I am SO ready for Dee and Noah next! 😍

Thank you netgalley and dreamscape media for providing an ARC of the audiobook in exchange of an honest review

Daisy is on a mission to go through romance tropes until she finds the one and Luke is her best friend's older brother, who got dumped on his wedding day and is her childhood crush.
Both Daisy and Luke are on a dating app disguised with other names, not knowing that they've been talking to each other.

I didn't like the trope list aspect of the story it felt a bit corny for my taste, but besides that Luke and daisy's love story was cute and overall book was lighthearted and enjoyable
I loved the audiobook and the narration made it a fun listen.

3.5 rounded up.

This was a sweet, charming small town, dual POV, friends to lovers romance with a fun anonymous dating app element that I enjoyed a lot. If you're in the mood for something light-hearted and feel good that will make you smile this is definitely it. Good on audio too! Many thanks to NetGalley and the author for an early audio copy in exchange for my honest review!

I enjoyed getting to know Daisy and Luke. I found the dating app angle fun and I loved the mix up with the multiple date invitations and how that worked out for them. The writing was easy to follow and flowed smoothly, making the romance leap off the page for me. There were a lot of different tropes thrown in but I thought they were worked in well in the overall story. Highly recommended for a feel good vacation read.

I was totally shipping Luke and Daisy in book one and this book did not disappoint. I read it in one day with a huge smile on my face the entire time.

Daisy is sweet, caring, and has a huge heart. Luke is serious, a bit dry, and has been wounded by a lot of hard knocks in life. He's totally against dating until his friends force him onto a dating app.

I loved the dynamics and getting to see Ivy and James again. I also loved seeing the side characters who I'm hoping are going to be the couple in the next book.

Perfectly sweet, swoony, and so much heart!

The Right Wrong Match
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre: Rom Com
Author: Sara Jane Woodley
GR: 3.90

I requested a digital advanced readers copy from NetGalley and Dreamscape Media and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.

My Thoughts: This is the second book in the Love in Mirror Valley series. I have read both, however, this can be read as a standalone. This was such a cute love story of two people who always knew each other but the timing was always off. This story followed several tropes: friends to lovers, grumpy v sunshine, small town, best friend’s brother, and miscommunication (not a big part but does play a part).

The narrators were great, easy to listen to, great voice variation, and just gave life to the characters in the book, bringing you along for the story. The story is narrated by both Daisy and Luke. The reason there were so many tropes weaved throughout the novel is Daisy is going through the traditional romance novel tropes to find her true love. Luke’s prior engagement ended when she fled and he played the grumpy card well. I loved the background dating app connection, as their real connection was blossoming. We also get an appearance from Ivy and James, from the first book, which I loved. The characters were developed well, amazing witty banter, chemistry, had a great connection, and creative. The author’s writing style was complex, humorous, flowed well, and brilliant.

I loved this second installment in the Love in Mirror Valley series and cannot wait to read the third book, The Real Fake Fiancé, that releases on 7/6/23. I highly recommend picking up this book, or any book in the series. The series is available in KU.

Such a fun concept: bucket list of all the romance troupes to try to find love. Searching for these troupes, Daisy signs up for dating app, under a nickname. This dating app just so happens to have a mishap, which leads to an impromptu singles night mixer where surely, Daisy will meet the man of her dreams right? This grumpy/ sunshine small town romance is just adorable. BRB so I can go read the other novels in the series! I received an audiobook eArc from Netgalley in return for an honest review.

maybe i should make a list of all the tropes and try all of them just like daisy did in the book. i can start with enemies to lovers or billionaire or a fake relationship. or daisy also set up an online dating profile so maybe i should do that. or maybe both.

Super cute! This was pretty standard, but I loved the healthy communication (especially around the 3rd act conflict).

It was a fairly quick read, so definitely recommend if you're in the mood for a quick romcom.

I'm looking forward to reading the next one in the series!

Reader’s Notes:

– this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone

– this is told from Daisy & Luke’s points of view

Review:

Oh my goodness! I just read straight through this last night and it was so good! I loved seeing Daisy and Luke get together after it was hinted at in the first book (and I am so excited for who’s story is supposed to come next!). I loved that their relationship started on a dating app and that Luke was the first to figure it out. It was entertaining to see Daisy’s sister and Noah meddling with Luke and Daisy and their feelings for each other. Noah was great at causing trouble and pushing Luke’s buttons. I loved how Daisy and Luke end up working together on some accidental projects together and it caused them to have to interact more than they would have if Daisy got her way of avoiding Luke and her dormant feelings for him. Some of my favorite scenes/moments included: the opening chapters’ events, their dates, the matchmaking events, Luke after Daisy finds out that they’ve been talking to each other through the app all this time, the friend’s/family’s reactions to them getting together, Daisy’s original plan for dating before really considering the app’s prospects, and when a surprise returnee to town finds out they are together.

Summary:

Daisy fell in love with her best friend’s brother back when they were in high school but couldn’t even think about dating him between him being her best friend’s brother and the fact that he was seriously dating someone else. Now Luke’s dealing with the nosey townspeople trying to set him up with someone new after his failed wedding when he clearly doesn’t want to be. Daisy knows that with his troubles, she shouldn’t be adding her feelings into the mix, especially since he isn’t thinking about dating at all. So she’ll just have to try dating someone else. What she didn’t expect was to accidentally manage to invite 20 men that matched with her on a dating app on a date…at the same time and place as the others…when she had meant to send it to the one person that interested her on the app. Now Daisy is pretending it was a planned singles fundraiser for the failing community center. And the council has decided that Luke will help Daisy plan more of these events since the ‘dry run’ did so well. Just great, now what’s Daisy to do?

Luke does not like being talked to about his runaway bride by anyone and everyone in town. Daisy is one of the few people that gives him a reprieve from the topic and Luke appreciates that. So when he discovers that he’s been talking to Daisy on a dating app for awhile, Luke has to decide if he’s truly ready to date after all this time before he can decide if he want’s to tell Daisy or not about his discovery. He doesn’t want to jump into anything that might break his little sister’s best friend’s heart without knowing where he stands beforehand. Daisy doesn’t deserve that after how kind she’s been and how much time she dedicates to helping out around town. Could Luke be ready to love someone once more?

Thank you to netgalley and dreamscape media for this advance audiobook copy of The Right Wrong Match in exchange for an honest review.

This could have been such a cute story because I found the characters quite likeable.
However i didn't really feel the connection and Chemistry between Luke & Daisy at all. The story didn't hold my interest.

In my opinion it wasn't as good as the first book in the series. Hoping the next one is much better as I'm looking forward to it.

"I'm all his and he's all mine"

I would like to give a big thanks to NetGalley, the publishers and mostly the author Sara Jane Woodley for writing such a sweet and fluffy book!

✅Friends to Lovers
✅Best friend's Brother
✅Childhood Friends
✅She Fell First but He Fell Harder
✅Dual POVs

The Plot
This book grasped my interest from the very beginning! The Plot wasn't as cliché as I thought it would be since in a way this book is a friends to lovers which many people aren't actually a fan of but I am certain that so many would love this book because even though they already knew each other and us readers didn't get that development, there was still a big development between the two but there is also a big development with the plot itself which does keep you interested. I understand that the community center is a big part in this book and plot but I felt like a few more pages to explain its importance to the characters individually would have helped a bit more.

The Characters
Daisy
Daisy was such a well written and cute character. All the effort she puts into helping others and putting others needs before her own was very inspirational. I really enjoyed reading about her background and how she is the person she is now because of all she had been through. I liked how close she was to her sister and how their relationship was so strong in this book!

Luke
Luke was such a sweetheart in this book! Again, I liked how the author explained his hardships so well and how it shows that his past made him who he truly is now. I loved how we see him slowly letting go of what holds him back in life and his relationship with his sister and her husband aka his best friend is just *chefs kiss*👩‍🍳👌

----------------------------------------------
This book is officially the second book in the Love in Mirror Valley series but can totally be read as a stand alone although if you read the first book, you will find out a sneak peak of something that happens to these characters and how that effects them in this book.

Anyways that's it lovelies xxxx

Thank you @authorsarajanewoodley for an early copy of The Right Wrong Match. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. 🤍

The Right Wrong Match is a sweet, small town romantic comedy about Daisy, and all-around sweet girl who’s had an unrequited crush on her best friend’s brother Luke ever since they were young. Daisy finally accepts that she needs to move on from said crush and find her perfect match through her sister Dee’s dating app, but she might have sent a date invitation to all her matches on the app instead of sending it to just one person. Now she has to plan a singles event for the entire town and the town council enlists the help of Luke.

This novel has such sweet and adorable characters and I really loved all of them, especially Luke and his amazing taste for music - he loves ABBA just like I do. 🥹❤️ I really enjoyed how the story unfolds as Daisy and Luke discover each other’s persona within the dating app and how they’ve already known each other all along. I loved Luke’s genuine concern and attention for Daisy despite his grumpy exterior, and I loved all their romantic moments as it had me screaming with delight! The conflict was not too dramatic so I would definitely recommend this book for a light romantic read.

Rating The Right Wrong Match ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5. Releases January 5th, 2023.

BRIEF SYNOPSIS: Since high school Daisy has had a crush on her best friend’s brother. But she’s always squashed those feelings because there is no way she can go down that road with Luke. So she joins a dating app and accidentally ends up planning singles events for her community. With Luke as her helper. Which makes it impossible to keep her feelings under wraps. Especially when he’s telling her she’s beautiful and looking at her like that.

I was so excited and thankful to receive an ARC of this one from the author. The Next Worst Thing was the first book I ever reviewed and honestly part of why I started a bookstagram account and so I could not wait to read Luke’s and Daisy’s story. And I absolutely adored it. I thought this was a wonderful take on the dating app and forced proximity tropes. Luke is such a cinnamon roll grump who only makes exceptions for Daisy and I thought it was just too adorable. I loved how kindhearted Daisy was and how she genuinely just enjoying serving and helping others.

One of my favorite things about Sara Jane Woodley’s books is that she writes characters who are actually logical thinkers. There are so many times in romance books where I get frustrated at the characters for not sharing their feelings and overreacting and shutting down (though let’s be honest…we are real people and we all manage to have these tendencies sometimes so I shouldn’t judge). But I just feel that Woodley’s characters actually think things through and are open and honest and stop themselves from spiraling to automatic worst case scenarios. There were a few times in this book that I expected Daisy to run or force distance between her and Luke. But she always stopped herself from spiraling down those rabbit holes and listened to the sound logic of her trusted friends and what she knew was true.

I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I obviously have an idea of who the couple will be, but I will just say I can’t wait to see more of Noah because he was cracking me up throughout this book.

Such a wonderful story! I was so happy to return to Mirror Valley!
Dual POV. A little fake dating. Close proximity. Grumpy-Sunshine. Caretaking. Mistaken Identity. Best Friend's Big Brother. Small town. Ex-fiance drama. Lots of good trope here people!
Luke seemed like a bit of a push over in the first book but he's strong, confident and sexy in this one!
Daisy is a fun quirky character. I enjoyed her.
No third act break up 🥳which I really appreciated! Absolutely beautiful and funny story. Highly Recommend anything by Sara Jane!

🗨 Some Quotes:
There’s a determination in his eyes that no longer screams “sad meerkat” but “trash-hungry raccoon.”

His tone is warm in a way that I can feel something within myself start to melt. I steel myself against it. Because being in any way “melty” around Luke Brooks is a molten slippery slope into broken heart territory.

"Daisy. You know the happily-ever-after isn’t the end of the story. It never is. Relationships take work and they can be messy and difficult, and they’re going to pull stuff out of you that you wished you’d never have to show anyone. But honestly? All those tough moments make life even sweeter. Because someone else sees and loves that most honest, raw, vulnerable side of you.”

Daisy has had a crush on her best friends grumpy older brother for most of her life. Those feelings are in the past though... Until circumstances arise that force her to work side by side with Luke. She starts seeing a whole new side to him. A softer side.

Luke has never really given Daisy another thought. He was always in a relationship and she was always his little sisters best friend. Until something shifts. Soon, he finds himself wanting to spend more time with her, wanting to do anything for her.

I loved the dating app part of the story. How Luke and Daisy had a type of relationship before they had a real relationship. I laughed out loud so much. There was also a bit of mystery added into this story, which made it even more fun to read!

Daisy falls first, but Luke falls harder.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ALC of this book.

This book book is quick, fun, light and sweet. I came from reading a romance book that felt like it dragged. When everything was happening here and so quickly I was relieved.

There's female friendships, which I always appreciate in a romance (sometimes the FMCs can get too wrapped up into the love interest) and there's communication. From the MMC no less - which feels doesn't happen often. There's one little blip that could be misconstrued as miscommunication, but not in the sense that I would consider it a major trope.

There's no spice. In fact, the FMC refers to "passionately making out" as something inappropriate, which was I think a bit much. But if that's what you're looking for in your romance. Go for it.

That being said - i think this would make for a good romance book in middle school and high schools, even though it's not "YA," but vary tame.

Quick Summary: A laugh out loud, pee your pants rom-com with heart

My Review: The Right Wrong Match by Sara Jane Woodley is one of my new favorites for 2023. This romance had me from the beginning. It was charming and sweet. It was completely relatable. It was utter perfection to this reader.

I adored the shenanigans that were weaved into this sweet story. The community of characters, especially the leads were so well done. I cannot wait to get to read more stories. I’m hooked!

My Final Say: This one is a keeper. Readers who enjoy opposites attract stories and a love story featuring the sibling of your BFF will swoon over this fantastic contemporary read. It is worth a read/listen.

(Free Review Audio Copy) 3.5 Stars - Rounded Up

This is a very standard modern romance novel, which is complimentary and perhaps, to a lesser degree, not complimentary.

Full disclosure, I didn’t read the first book, to which The Right Wrong Match is the second of the series. But this seemed to stand alone pretty well. I had no problem getting to know the characters and following the story. This is your typical small town romantic story: cozy, agreeable, charming banter, typical unassumingly lovely FMC, + a variety of side characters. These are additions we all love in our favorite rom-com stories.

Yet… there is little here that makes it stand-out from this very crowded field. To me, this is a Wonder bread of love stories - fine, no surprises, but also nothing really unique. What should be dramatic climaxes within this story are not very dramatic nor very climatic. The characters are quirky, seemingly, at times, for quirky’s sake.

This is a soft and sweet, but not very memorable story.

This book was even better than the first book in the series! The narration was fantastic and really brought the characters personalities and emotions to life. The plot though was really good. Take one woman who has had an unrequited crush on her best friend's older brother since high school who finally decides it is time to get over it and move on then toss the best friend's older brother into the storyline with him getting over his great heartbreak and you have a fun rom com that is just waiting to take a turn for the better! Add in that our delightful Daisy is a rom com enthusiast and has a list of rom com situations that she is going to use to try and find her "Mr. Right" and you have giggles and entertainment for hours! I really can't wait to see what happens next in Mirror Valley!!!

Thanks Netgalley for the audio ARC in exchange for an honest review!

While there wasn't anything inherently wrong with this book, it felt unfinished, like it needed further editing and reviews.
Many plot points and narration arcs were mentioned, but nothing got described and taken along for more than a few pages.
First, there was the "romance trope list", mentioned in the first few chapters, and then at the end, it got completely forgotten. Then we have the "mistaken online identity" which lasts hardly for the first third of the book. Everything felt rushed and not well-developed, which is bummer because this book has so much potential!

Alas, while I thought as I stated that I could catch up on the series, I really don't think I will.
