Warrior Kings of Alioth #3

Scorched by Starlight

If this is what lost feels like, do I really want to be found?
KYAAL
My planet is my one true love.

Until I scent her. My fated mate. My queen.

She obsesses me until I can think of nothing else. Not my planet, not my people. Only her.

I hoped that she would feel the same. I hoped that she would stay here and rule beside me of her own free will.
But soon, she will return to Earth, and she’s shown no signs of sensing our bond. My time is running out.

I can’t lose her. Not without a fight.
JAYA
The alien king watches me wherever I go. I feel his eyes on me, following me, like he’s waiting for something.

At first I think he’s eager to see me and the other human women leave his precious planet. So I’m shocked when he challenges me to a race into the desert.

I admit it—I’m intrigued by his invitation. And when our little excursion turns into a lost-in-the-wilderness adventure? I don’t know if it’s the adrenaline or the wonders of the uncharted terrain, but our attraction ignites.

With only days until I catch my ride home, we can’t keep our hands off each other. Now there’s something else in his gaze. It’s full of questions. And the answers are hotter than the scorching sands around us.

Sara Ivy Hill has delivered another entertaining alien romance

What would you wish for if you could have whatever you wanted? Would you wish to be "queen for a day"? That was Jaya's wish, and she will get much more than a day if Kyaal has his way.

To begin with, Kyaal is broken, and a bit dense sometimes, but he is also so endearing. Kyaal has located his Alara (destined mate), but instead of approaching her, he has become growly and ornery. Jaya is convinced he despises her...now, only days before she is set to return to earth, he must win her heart and persuade her to be his.

Jaya is an adrenaline junkie who will do anything to stop the constant chatter in her head. It's her way of feeling alive…by looking at death and laughing. But Jaya has a secret, and it's the reason she keeps everyone at a distance. Will Kyaal be able to break through the barriers Jaya has put in place before it is time for her to return to earth?

What follows is a delightful and adventurous journey over the sands of Alak as Kyaal attempts to capture Jaya's heart and, most importantly, give her the opportunity to choose him. I thought the world-building was fantastic, the primary characters were endearing, and Charlotte and Syllia... They were amazing! They stole the show on multiple occasions.

I have enjoyed this series and I can't wait to see who falls next! Looking for the next book in this series!

I tried. I really did. But this was just ok, and it also contains one of my least favorite tropes, the miracle disease cure. Add to that the story has some dangerous elements (they're surviving out on a desert planet, so makes sense), but for all that it was just boring. I struggled to keep reading it but I was determined to see what happens in the overarching storyline. I'm not sure I'll be in a rush to pick up the next one, but we'll see how it goes.

🔥 “Maybe I want to keep you here forever. If I must f⚡ck you a thousand times to make it so, then I will.”
~~~
Jaya has been through so much pain and loss. But she won’t let anything break her. That woman is a survivor and I loved that, despite everything, she still lives every moment to the fullest. Even more, she’s so compassionate, fearless, kind and feisty. I couldn’t help but absolutely respect and love her!
Kyaal is the Jara of Alak. At first, he appears grumpy and scowling. But there is so much more to him than meets the eye. Kyaal is a great ruler who’s willing to do everything to make sure his people are protected and prosperous. He’s also so strong, relentless, lethal, patient and observant. And he’s such a flirt! I adored him so much!
Everything that happened between Jaya and Kyaal was phenomenal! The Jara of Alak finds his Alara among the human women and has just a few days to convince her to stay with him and not leave with the Xaszians. And he really has to work on proving that he’s the one for her. So, he offers her a little trip. But their excursion soon turns into an amazing adventure in the wilderness. Those two were so awesome together and their chemistry was magnificent. I loved how competitive they were and how they challenged each other. Even more, their banters and teasing were glorious and such fun to read. I really loved that Kyaal managed to give Jaya all the exhilaration and freedom she needed. And Jaya always managed to surprise him. And when they gave in to their undeniable attraction, the spice was *chef's kiss* and it got hotter and hotter with every passionate moment. I just looooove it when the MMC is so dirty-mouthed and gives in to his primal instincts! Oh, boy… 🥵
In addition, the worldbuilding was spectacular! I loved Alak with its harsh deserts, red rock hills and sharp ridges. Ky’Alak was so stunning and I became quite fond of the sandstriders, especially Charlotte. Even more, I really loved Hathka and Tadil - they’re such amazing and supportive friends.
Overall, the story is another remarkable addition to the series. It’s filled with adventure, danger, humor, drama, adrenaline, the best of twists, blazing hot romance and magnificent characters.
I couldn’t put it down and loved every single page of it!
Jaya (h) never expected her journey would lead her to the scorching deserts of Alak, or to Kyaal (H), its powerful and enigmatic ruler. Struggling with a genetic illness and a future full of uncertainty, Jaya is determined to find her own path, even as Kyaal recognizes her as his fated queen. But Kyaal isn’t one to impose his will, and instead, he sets out to prove his devotion through action, patience, and an unwavering respect for Jaya’s independence. Together, they traverse the treacherous terrain of Alak, battling deadly creatures, navigating perilous landscapes, and confronting their deepest fears. Through danger and discovery, their connection grows, built on trust, humor, and undeniable attraction. But as Jaya faces her mortality and questions where she belongs, she has to decide whether to embrace the life Kyaal offers or return to the only world she’s ever known. Hot and steamy alien, sci-fi romance, exploring love, connection, survival, self-discovery, vulnerability, adventure, resilience, independence, trust, taking risks, challenges, and belonging.
Let’s be honest, there’s just something about an alien romance that I can really get behind. This book was well written and has a great plot. The romance between Kyaal and Jaya is full of heat, possession, and all the other things we love with an alpha male as the MMC. But their romance is also full of tenderness, wonder, and joy. I loved their relationship and each of them as individual characters. This was a quick and easy read that only took me a few hours to finish in one sitting, and if you like alien romances or want to try one out, I’d highly recommend this one!
“Your undergarment,” he says impatiently. “I can see it under your swarm suit.” My damn panty line. Can’t escape VPL even on another planet.
This one is so different from the first two books that on the one hand I love it and on the other I was a little disappointed.
This one is a sweet romance that takes place in the desert, which was really interesting because we got to see a lot more world building.
***Spoiler Alert***
So we have Jaya, a human who has a genetic expiration date that gives her maybe another 10 good years before her body starts to fail.
Kyaal, the prince of the world, loves his desert and doesn't want to force himself on Jaya. He doesn't want to tell her they are fated mates because he wants her to love him for who he is not out of duty.
They have some extremely dangerous moments out in the wilderness, which are life and death, that drive them together.
They have this sweet little game going where she beats him and says she wants to be queen for the day so he spends the rest of the book calling her "my queen". The sweetest quote comes late in the book when she's deciding she wants to stay - "You can introduce me as a political refugee or just a dumb lost terrakin or—”“My queen,” he interrupts. “If you stayed, you’d be my queen.”
I love this book - there is a laughter, sexy times, tears, the whole package really. My only disappointment comes that Kyaal is far tamer between the sheets than his brother. He's all about Jaya though and it just makes for such a sweet read.
10 out of 10, totally recommend! This one will make you fall in love!
Again, I'm very impressed of how different this book was in the series and I am here for it. I love how we get to explore each of the worlds the brothers The action in the desert that we encounter feels fresh and new and the way Kyaal works his magic on Jaya and understands her on the core level just makes my heart melt.
I feel for Jaya a lot and the way she struggles to figure out if staying or going feels very realistic. With her chronic illness, there seems to be a lot to think about and I'm glad to see she didn't just rush into any decision but really went back and forth. It feels very human. And I also understand the frustration Kyaal experiences and the choice that he wants to give Jaya is so good to see.
I loved exploring this new city and the secrets that she hides. I'm also glad to see Kyaal being a good king, even if that means his brothers have hated him a little more. I also love seeing the brothers slowly grow closer and closer to each other and start to actually form relationships. I will want a HEA for all of them and it includes them being together with brotherly love as well.
Delphie staying behind is curious and I'm sensing there will be a brother in store for her as well. I'm curious to see which one it is!
This is definitely worth the read but I have mixed feelings about it. The world is complex and interesting, and the backstory is moving along nicely. I did not miss interacting with the priests in this one (but they do make good villains.)
I love it when characters have good friends who help them through issues. Both characters moved forward positively when they got input from another couple.
On their own, the MMC was especially muddled in his thinking. I get aggravated if lies of omission go on for too long. And he holds back a lot. Eventually he tells her the truth and I appreciated that she didn't feel betrayed about it.
However, when he finds out about something she didn't tell him, he becomes a complete ass. He does that crappy trope of saying mean things to her to get her to leave. The foundation of the upset in her words,
“You said it was my choice to stay, and then you took that choice away.”
She forgives him way too easily in my opinion. He takes no time to think things through and is irresponsibly controlling. He reminds me of the MFC from the first book who also annoyed me.
Okay first off, I got this book early as an ARC but my opinions are my own..
Oh man, this book was amazing! So worth the wait! Jaya's backstory was heartbreaking, and seeing the changes that Kyaal instilled in Jaya was amazing and heartwarming. Kyaal was hilarious and a grumpy as ever. I loved his passion, and his restraint, and how he was willing to do whatever he needed to to get Jaya to see the other side of things. The turmoil they were through near the end was intense, and totally worth the read. These two are perfect for each other in every way, both challenging each other but supporting each other too. Charlotte and Syilla were also a favourite of mine (even though I'm scared of spiders) I couldn't get enough of them and they were just so adorable in the most caring way. Tadil and Hathka were such great side characters being that one friend who makes the characters really look at themselves. I so can't wait for the next one! This will be a series I re-read all over again when all the books are out because man, they are just that good.
Oh, I am really loving this series of the Warrior Kings of Alioth. This third book did not disappoint in any way. King Kyaal knows that Jaya is his fated mate when he meets her. Jaya is on the hive ship getting ready to return to earth. When Jaya is told that she has can’t be cured of her genetic disease on the hive ship, she would have to return to the Xaszian planet where they would be able to heal her permanently, but it means she will never return to earth again.
Jaya leaves the hive ship and returns to the planet Alak, where she meets up with Kyaal, he talks her into exploring the golden deserts before she leaves. What starts off as a daily excursion turns into a three day trip full of excitement and adventure and she discovers that she is his fated mate and his queen. This is a really exciting book and I couldn’t put it down until I had finished it. I can’t wait to read the fourth book in the series. There is a happily ever after for this couple.
I was given an advanced copy of this book to read and review with my honest and fair opinion.
Jaya has a genetic disorder that can be cured, but only on a different planet-Xasz Not wanting to be a burden to anyone, should she consider staying with Kyaal on his planet or go back to Earth and be alone or go to Xasz alone?
Kyaal knows Jaya is his mate. But he won't force her to stay. She must have a choice. Three days before she is to leave, he offers to show her his planet, by sand strider no less. Think giant spiders. What exciting adventures await?
Sara has an amazing storyteller ability. She weaves her characters into a fantastic work of fiction full of danger, sadness and happiness, adrenaline charged scenes, growing connections, hot and spicy romance, plot twists and emotions. I did not read the first two books in this series but would encourage you to read them first. Reading them in order will give you more world building and increase your enjoyment of each book.
A great plot but buried in too many sex scenes.
Scorched by Starlight - an original and interesting plot by Sara Ivy Hill, that primarily takes place on the desert planet of Arakkis. 𝘑𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘬𝘪𝘥𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨. Most of the story occurs on Arak, between Jaya and Kyaal. While enjoyable, this interesting story gets buried under the frustration of trying to skim through the ridiculous number of sex scenes. Most of them are gratuitous and bog down the flow of the book. The first two books had quite a bit, but this one became repetitive. I would recommend skimming this book, as it just doesn't seem to contribute much to the arc of the series.
I'll be reading the next book, “Sparked by Starlight, mostly just to see how the bad guys go down.
Ok for real I can't remember the last time a fluffy super spicy alien romance made me get all up in my feels. I feel in love with this series a few months ago and I genuinely am so excited for the next 3 books! Jaya and Kyaal were so perfect for each other and I LOVED THEM. The world building just keeps getting better and better as the series goes on.. the spice gets hotter and hotter... AND THE FEELS! Sarah really knows how to pack a punch when it comes to telling stories. I don't know how she comes up with this stuff but it's delightful. I'm so invested and can't wait to find out what happens next!!
I absolutely loved this book and it's beautiful golden cover! What an awesome journey through the dry sands to the refreshing end! https://www.amazon.com/Scorched-Starl...
The descriptions are so vivid it's like you're fighting a sandstorm with these two. There's adventure, love, personal growth, pain, all the feels, and a satisfying ending. The sex is off the charts hot and the prose is, as alway, fantastic. I can't wait to read this one again, and I'm waiting on baited breath for the next one! SIH is by far my favorite SFR author. I thought I couldn’t love another alioth king more than Thren… enter Kyaal. He’s grumpy, he wants enthusiastic consent, he has a not so secret soft side and he’s willing to let the rest of the system look down on him and his planet in order to keep his people and resources safe. Oh- and he loves his pet sand striders (picture a giant spider-dog) and gives GREAT massages 😏😏
Once they got over their initial grumpy-ness, Kyaal and Jaya were a perfect match. Their relationship felt so natural and seamless that the final conflict between them felt a bit out of the blue. Despite that, these two have a beautiful HEA and I’m so excited for book 4!
Sweet, spicy and funny
I enjoyed this book of the series very much. It was funny and fun with a side serving of adventurous. Most sci-fi romance is fairly light in the details, but this way built a beautiful world without bogging down the story with excessive details. Excellent pacing, engaging characters, good character development and a fun plot that didn't create the smut at the expense of the story. This is why I read Sara Ivy Hill. She's a master of the genre. 17+ is my recommendation for the audience, but my children tell me I'm overly protective so take that advice for what's it's worth. 😆
KYAALLLLLL!!! This man can do no wrong I’m convinced… besides the ending BUT EVEN THAT WASNT WRONG! This couple had the sweetest connection and Jaya is a badass. Like seriously. You have a terminal genetic illness and all you want to do is live life to its fullest extent?! I mean giving up the idea of treatment so that your life can be enjoyable, full of love, and adventurous? That’s the hardest decision ever and she made it in favor of love and it payed off so well.
This book warmed my heart, I only wish it was longer.
I really liked this one!
After not loving the last one, I was feeling skeptical, but this had a different feel.
I was rooting for them the whole time. I only wish it would’ve been a little longer than a few days total. I know he says he was waiting for Jaya to realize their connection and then almost ran out of time, but a bit more of a slow burn would’ve hit harder for me! But it didn’t bother me too much, and was cute overall!
This was my favorite in the series so far! The author develops the characters so well that I feel like close friends - and they should be after 'seeing' all their sexy times. I thought a desert planet was going to be boring, but it was far from it. I think there was more action in this book than the others. There was definitely more angst, though not too much. The sand striders were so cool and sweet <3 I am so sad that I now have to wait for the next book! 🌶🌶🌶🌶 and HEA
My favorite book of the series so far.
Can’t believe I fell in love with the little spider thing while I was reading cause spiders are yuck lol.
Loved how Kyaal allowed Jaya to take control of her life and make decisions for herself even though it killed him inside.
Favorite of the Series So Far
This was my favorite of the series so far. I didn't give it 5 stars because of the stuff that Kyaal said to Jaya when he learned the Xascians (sp?) could cure her. She forgave him really easily, and that was good for her. However, I could never. Still, I am looking forward to the next books. There better be one with Lena and Lyros! Also, maybe an RH with Andi and the Xascians.
Best installment of the series, yet!
This one is deeper and so relatable, as we get to know Jaya’s backstory and why she is the way she is. I love that her instincts allow her to communicate with Alioth, to have a deeper understanding of Alioth’s opinions on things. We had echoes of it in the first two books, but this feels like more. I freely admit to getting teary-eyed almost as much as I felt like swooning. Absolutely LOVED this one and am so glad I picked up this series!
I absolutely adored Kyaal! I loved Jaya too and seeing them get together? Chef’s kiss! I love how Kyaal was so insistent that Jaya choose her path. And I love how Jaya was up for anything! They were truly a fantastic couple to read about and the perfect fit together. Kyaal was such a dirty talker-which totally surprised me but I am here for it!
They made me laugh, they made me tear up a bit, and they made me cheer for them the whole way. So glad I got this book!
Otra gran historia.
La autora mantiene los mismos aciertos y en mi opinión los mismo errores. Los protagonistas son carismáticos y su química es ❤️‍🔥
Sin tanto drama. Aunque nuevamente me falto más de los otros hermanos, se compensó con ese final 💖
Aunque es muy parecido a los otros en teoría, no lo sientes repetitivo o monótono.
En resumen, si buscas algo entretenido y fácil; una historia de amor sin tanto drama y con varias escenas spicy, este es lo tuyo.
I loved the dynamic between Jaya and Kayaal and I think there story was a lot more light hearted in the sense they didnt have to deal with a third party trying to separate them like the first 2 books but I think that the element of the illness made it more real and it was nice little change from the first 2 books 📚.
So enjoyable
This is the third book in the series. I enjoyed this one very much. Both main characters were well developed and their story line unfolded smoothly. Each brother is different and interesting. Book 2 and 3 had good strong characters. I found book 1 just so so. I couldn't like the main human character, but that's me. I am glad I stayed with the series.
I am loving this series, because each book is so different in terms of setting, characters, and the overall plot. I really like that this author doesn’t feel the need to check in with each and every character and planet in each of the books. They are truly standalone, and it makes for a more enjoyable reading experience.
Did not see that coming
I totally did not see that ending coming. Wow! This gets a 5 star for that alone. Jaya is really special and I'm glad she got her happy ending. Kyaal was amazing. Three has been my favorite so far but I think Kyaal ties him. This book was an adventure and I loved every minute! I can't wait to read the next book.
Spicy and sweet
The story is spicy and sweet. Lots of spicy scenes, and plenty of sweet ones. I never thought I would have a love of spider-like beings, but my favorite character quickly became Charlotte! And not to give away spoilers but the ending was so sweet! My heart melted!
