This was a very different story from what I’m used to reading, but an excellent one which I thoroughly enjoyed. Two Polish restaurateurs, fight to be king of the Smorgasbord (Smorg). But this has been Wiktor’s crown for years, and he’s not giving up the title of ‘Smorg King’ any time soon. This story is full of gangsters, revenge, and retribution, with a few dead bodies here and there, but all mixed in with a little bit of humour.

A 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read, which I highly recommend!!

Smorg- short for Smorgasbord. Yeah, that's what this is.  Restaurant owners in competition, but a deadly one at that.  This is some serious gangster shit, and it rolls out smoothly with a cast of great characters- wiktor being my favorite, for reasons lol.  Great violence, fantastic writing, this was a new style read for me, and it didn't disappoint. Five $$$$$'s ! 💀🤙

This is a fast paced novella that tells the sordid story about the Smorgasbord King of Milwaukee and his violent relentless pursuit to stay on top of the food chain any way he can!!

I love the style this story is written in. It has a pulp kinda vibe that makes the pages fly right by without sacrificing narrative or character.

This author always throws little things in his books that makes them a pleasure to read... like someone having a Green Bay Packers tattoo or a man who looks like a frog. These descriptions really make his books fun to read despite the amount of bloodshed.

And, oh yes, there is plenty of that in here! Glorious, unrelenting, and visceral bloodshed is splattered on these pages with a glee that is effective and keeps your attention.

The premise itself seems ridiculous at first. A war over competing smorgasbords? But that's all part of this book's charm and I absolutely loved it!

A tale of two Polish restaurateurs battling for dominance on American soil.
If you've ever watched the underground fight club "King of the Streets" on YouTube, you'll know that the Poles don't f**k around when it's time to throw down.
And throw down they do!
Add in a splash of comedy and the authors own unique prose, and you've got yourself one hell of a read!
Well done!

A thoroughly entertaining novella. M.C August displays great structure skills and a knack for snappy dialogue. Although it's darkly comedic, I found Smorg War of '84 to have a solid mafia style about it. The violence when it does occur is brutal and reminiscent of classic cinematic set-pieces in this genre. We get to follow one man's greed as it destroys not only his business but also his family and their legacy. This book is like if the Coen brothers had made The Departed. If that doesn't make you want to read this fantastic novella, then I don't know what to tell you!

No one barges in and sets up a buffet in the Smorg King's turf in Milwaukee. Understand? Exactly what happens when a man named Borys does set up a rival buffet called Real Warsaw Buffet? That's the premise of this hilarious and violent novella. Let the retaliation begin, and let it escalate to bloodshed. August handles the comedy well, layering the narrative with subtle humor. He handles the "war" with the same command, and it all makes for a great read. Don't miss it. Bon appetit.

Who knew being in the smorgasbord business was so cut-throat and tough? And who knew being The Smorg King meant choosing the smorg over everything else in one's life, including family.

People love their smorgasbord and to be the king, one has to rule with an iron fist.

What a great book! Unique, funny, and sad, with fast-paced action and vivid scenes. MC August is now an author I consider a favorite and a definite must read.

This was such a fun and fast read. A frenetic story of greed and bad choices with some heart sprinkled in there for good measure.

It read like a season of Fargo and I mean that in the best way possible. I think this would be really great if it got a movie adaptation. Interesting, quirky, and fun characters thrown into the mix gave this book personality.

This is a wild story of two restaurants going at it. It starts off not too bad but the retaliation turns violent and bloody quick! I loved it, there were also times I laughed out loud. Definitely a fun and fast read! Can’t wait to read more by him!
