She would do anything to prevent that from happening, but things spiral out of her control.
I really enjoyed this book! It's a great story about complex family relationships and the challenges of being a teenager when the adults in your life let you down. It had a little mystery, a little intrigue and some great twists and turns that slowly revealed themselves as the different characters told their part of the tale. I highly recommend it!
During the pandemic my wife and I started reading books aloud to each other. Our choice this last week was Sharon Bailey’s first novel: Painted Rocks. This is a gutsy, courageous piece of writing, the author tackles many difficult and contentious issues, some of which are: boundaries, morality and rules (or lack of) in child rearing; teenage use of social networking; website hacking to disrupt other’s lives; adultery; transparency in adult relations ships; and the true cost of lies and deceit to control others’ lives on the liar herself, as well as on her victims. The advantage of reading aloud with a partner is that you can share impressions and reactions in real time, sharing not just words but facial expressions and body language. This book certainly sparked some interesting conversations during our sessions. A splendid first novel, it will be interesting to see where the author will take her readers next time......
