The Tyrant's Apprentice

Rate this book
Chained in a cell. Stripped of her past. Training to awaken a potential she doesn’t understand.

Julie wakes up chained to the wall of a tiny cell on a remote space station. Recently orphaned and stripped of her memories, she is utterly alone.

Her captor is a tyrannical masked man who twists thoughts and alters memories at will. He claims she possesses a dormant power that only he can unlock, but his methods push her sanity to the brink.

Thrust into a brutal conditioning program, she is tutored by two young Inquisitors: a woman who warns that occult threats lurk beyond reality, and a man who wears a hideous helmet yet speaks with an enigmatically soft voice.

Julie yearns for human connection, but can she trust any of them? She’d have to choose carefully if she hopes to endure the tyrant’s harrowing gauntlet of physical trials and psychic manipulations.

About the author

Eric Fieldstone

Eric was born in a small town to a working-class family. As a child, he loved playing make-believe with friends. Those glorious adventures took place in exotic locations like the parking lot near his grandparents’ apartment block.

Fantasy and science-fiction always stirred his creativity, either in books or table RPG games. At age nine, he used to scribble stories in notebooks and clack on his father’s typewriter—secretly, of course. Throughout his life, creative passion drove him to create multiple stories, novels, and game modules.

After many years in the corporate tech world, Eric returned to pursue the art of creating magnificent worlds. His latest series, The Stellar Fracture Saga, is a dark-fantasy and science-fiction mix that follows a varied cast of characters across epic events in a distant future.

I was given this book, by the author in exchange for an honest review.

So this book, I both went into blind and it isn’t my Preferred genre. With that said, my expectations were non existent. I enjoyed the high fantasy / thrillery aspects that lead the story forward. I don’t want to say much because this story did a lot to build up the story for the next one and future continuities but this book of you enjoy fantasy is a fast and fun read.

Thank you Eric, for the cool book!

What a wonderful and unexpected discovery on the book market.

The story follows young Julie Lorraine, who starts out at a very dark place: chained to the walls of a mysterious and frightening cell.

Throughout the book, the reader can watch her grow in strength and personality, while she has to fight for her identity and her position in the constantly new situations she finds herself in or gets thrown into.

The author manages to create fantastic and stunning Sci-Fi worlds we haven´t seen before. He clearly draws his inspiration from a wide variety of modern-day Sci-Fi, and you can also see a metaphorical bow to Lovecraft’s imagination.

But he is doubtlessly able to make his very distinct creations, which come to life with detail, and fill them it with enigmatic, thrilling and sometimes terrifying creatures and humans.

The story takes the reader on a riveting journey, full of twists and turns, and ends in a breathtaking climax that absolutely makes us want to discover this world further.

The characters, especially the female heroine, are handled with the utmost care and are thought-through in every detail of their personalities, so the reader can clearly see the author´s love and respect for them.

I wouldn´t even say there´s a distinct audience for the book, in my humble opinion, it can be read by a wide variety of people.
And it should.

And if you want to support a relatively new, up-and-coming, self-published author, I can only warmly recommend the book.

I really enjoyed the adventure in this story and the author made a good job of making the world immersive. I found the protagonist is likeable, and often felt for her and the situations she found herself in. I also found myself developing a connection with the secondary characters and caring about their backgrounds.

The story itself has some wonderful mysteries to keep you guessing and satisfying twists. Overall, a fantastic journey and I hope the story continues.
