A swashbuckling upper YA/NA LGBTQ+ sci-fi western you don't want to miss!

Cor, Ellie, Zach, and Gabe thought they were in the clear, but their bad luck said otherwise. As soon as they stepped foot on land, the four were arrested for a new crime they didn’t commit, and there was only one person who would have the resources to turn another town against them.

As they wait for Byron to retrieve them from the town’s prison, the group comes up with a plan to escape. But what happens when one of them doesn’t make it out? Do they risk their lives to go back for that person, or do they save their own skin?

"𝗪𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝘆𝗲𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲."

I read all three books in the City of Kaus series in a week and I loved it! Rescue is not only about the characters finding themselves in tight situations, but also about each character dealing with their emotions. There are escape plans, unexpected betrayal, plot twists and more humorous moments provided by Zach. Cor and Ellie's rivalry continues and Gabe is still fighting for the truth to be revealed. The stakes are higher as Byron almost convinced everyone of his plan and a new character is introduced. This series has stunning covers, likeable characters and is an easy read.

- Revenge

Hearing “sci-fi western” really drew me into this series. There was intricate world building. This book is incredibly action packed and fast paced. I couldn’t put it down. This is an incredibly character driven series, and I loved all four of them. We got to see character arcs as they navigate through new and rekindled friendships. I love the LGBTQIA+ representation.

One of my qualms of previous books was that multiple characters would come to the same realization in subsequent chapters, but I really enjoyed the difference in POVs in this one. The characters definitely grow in this book as they battle their own internal conflicts, and I think this was well done.

This book was gifted to me by MTMC Tours and the author, and the review is my own.

Another great addition to the series. I must say this one kept me on the edge of my seat.

All the characters we have come to know and love are back with a vengeance. There was much more mental gameness (is that a word?) in this book. I kept waiting for the bottom to drop out. I had vibes of what’s currently going on in our world woven into the story. There was lots of action as previous books but the message seemed to be darker and heavier.

I am a big fan of the different POVs of each chapter.
The love triangle pulls at my heartstrings.
Thank you Dani for my complimentary eARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

TW: rape

When an armed and dangerous character breaks into a room, encounters a terrified housekeeper, and then "seduces" her to get what he wants, that's rape. I'm reminded of the Dennis Reynolds "implication" speech. ("But the thing is she's not gonna say 'no', she would never say 'no' because of the implication.")

I gave the previous two books in this series two stars, because despite the lack of worldbuilding, childish characters, simplistic plot, and lack of editing, I was actually a little interested in where the story was headed. Well, the story ended with a wet fart, and one of the protagonists raped someone, so this one gets one star.

It has been a wild ride following the City of Kaus series & in all honesty, it's been so much fun! After the events of Retribution, the gang keeps facing trouble after trouble and it's all they can do to survive.

But in Rescue, Cor’s guilt for putting Gabe, Zach and Ellie (his only friends/allies) constantly in danger eats at him constantly. This series is action-packed but also character-centric, and we get to see how each member is struggling with their own kind of self-doubt: are they really important/essential for one another or are they simply together out of convenience? Add in the need to escape prison alive & streets just as dangerous for having a bounty on their heads, Rescue is another gripping installment that had my heart in my throat until the very end.

Now where is book 4? I need it!!

Another excellent book in the City of Kaus series. I've come to love these characters so much! Each adventure they go on is better than the last and reveals more about their past and their internal struggles. It is also hilarious on top of all the angst! Dani Hoots is a master of mixing all the emotions and giving me all the feels while showing me one hell of a ride! I need a book four now!

This series is a lot of fun. My only complaint was this book was too short. I wanted more time with these awesome characters. Can’t wait to read the next installment.

Putting aside the fact that I’m not sure of the dates I read this, I thoroughly enjoyed the deceit, revenge and hope in this story.
