Isabella is a shapeshifter without a Pack.

Torn from her home and forced to live with her human father, Isa has become the one thing every shifter dreads.

A lone wolf in an unknown territory.

If she wants to survive the year, she’ll need to keep her head down.

Which is easier said than done when, on her first day in town, she catches the attention of Rafael Castillo—Hellbound High’s Alpha Heir. He’s hot as hell but runs cold as ice. And more important, he’s determined to make Isa’s life hell.

But if she thought the local wolves were all she needed to worry about, she’s in for a rude awakening when she realizes being a lone wolf doesn’t just make her an outcast.

It makes her fair game.

3.75 ✨

This book was a contemporary “dark romance” first and that version is a 2✨

The whole story just makes so much more sense and vibes so much better with the supernatural world tied into it. I’m not gonna lie I read this whole series like a year ago before I started using goodreads and am Re reading it now bc I specifically remember really enjoying book 2.

Has a little of everything

Isa who is still mourning her mother has to move in with her Bio-Dad Brian. He is never around for her. It makes you mad when he couldn't even show up after she's attacked, instead his Assistant is there.

Rafael he doesn't know why he just "wants" Isa and is determined to make her life miserable at the beginning. Well it backfires on him as his feelings grow between the two of them.

Only thing I wish is that is was shorter. Just dragged some.

At the broadest level, I enjoyed this a lot. I liked Isa as a character. One would have a hard time saying they liked Rafe, but he was a sexy alpha a-hole lead. And I didn't feel like the shift from bully to romantic partner was too rushed. There was enough growth between them for it not to feel too artificial. Plus, I very much appreciate that there wasn't just a blooming lust-to-love relationship. Isa formed strong platonic relationships, too. (Though it might have been nice to see a few females in there.) I also really liked that both characters were Latinx and the importance familiar, cultural food is given in the story.

I did have trouble with their ages. They're supposed to be 17-year-old high school students. But they all seemed to have easy access to alcohol (even being served by adults at times), are covered in tattoos, and have some fairly explicit (and practiced), on-page sex. So, they felt older than they should have for me. This wasn't a big deal, but it did pull me out of the story a bit. Similarly, I found myself frequently pausing to notice how similar this paranormal world and the language used to describe it is to some other series I've read—Ilona Andrews' stuff especially.

More importantly for me, if I never ever have to read another book where all the women not in the heroine's immediate circle (of which there is one, who is the heroine of a future book in the series) are represented and treated as slutty trash (little more than sentient fleshlights) I will be a far happier reader. There are some seriously gross messages about the value (or lack of value) of sexually available women built into it. Add in the aspect of gleefully hurting each other over the attention of the men who callously treat them as disposable commodities, and I start to want to burn things to the ground (especially when this is written by female authors).

I acknowledge that in the context of exploring power dynamics, there is unavoidably an aspect of resource guarding involved in this trope. But I feel like too often it's used more as an easy, pitting women against women in the way we've all been subtly taught to never trust (or value) each other than in any sort of thoughtful exploration or subversion of the patriarchy's favorite trick. (It's the whole, 'divided they fall,' right?) So, can this cliche just go die a quiet, grisly death somewhere where I never ever have to see it again? Please!

This isn't so much a critique of this book or series, since this is such a common element of contemporaneously written romances, as it is a general plea to the universe. But I do feel that this particular trope was especially heavy here and I, I don't think, used subversively in any manner.

Despite these latter complaints, I found this well-written and worth reading. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

I didn't think this would be spicy since it's a high school setting, so that was a nice surprise.

I really like the high stakes of pack versus vampires, witches, humans etc. Brian really works for the story. Rafe is not as bright as I'd like, and I don't really get why Isa stays with him when he's such an ass.

The ending was a real let-down, it just felt rushed. We don't even get to learn about the attacks? Why, who, a solution? The four months later part felt like an epilogue, and I feel like we also missed out on a lot of healing, meeting the family and other big moments.

Wicked Wolves And Tangled Truths - Daniela Romero

Book 1 Hellbound Hearts Series

**Wicked Wolves and Tangled Truths was originally published as a contemporary romance novel and has been re-imaged at the request of Daniela's paranormal readers.** Contemporary series is Boys of Sun Valley.

My Review:
My Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶🌶🌶
Pages: 396
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Tropes: Enemies to Lovers, Bully Romance

I absolutely loved this book! I’ve been searching for a wolf shifter romance forever! This one combined not only my favorite tropes but in a paranormal romance. Daniela Romero made my dream come true! I am thrilled I accidentally ran across this series and I will be reading each book!

Rafael - Son of the pack alpha. Confidence and cockiness for days! He rules the high school. Cross him and you will find out just how powerful he is.

Isa - New girl in school their Senior year. Mother was just killed and she’s been forced to leave her pack and move across the state to live with her human biological father.

High School is a trial school where both humans and supernaturals students attend. Shifters of all types, witches, vampires, fae and other types all attend. Even though they are in forced proximity they don’t necessarily get along.

Can a wolf without a pack survive? Read the book to find out! I couldn’t put it down! I absolutely loved it!

I honestly didn’t enjoy this book. It felt way too Wattpady in style, and the romance didn’t deliver what was promised. The story was marketed as an MF romance, but it read more like a reverse harem with the FMC, Isa (not Isabella—apparently everyone must call her by her nickname, even the teachers), forming emotional connections and relationships with every guy she met… except with the actual male lead, Rafe.

With Rafe, there was no emotional depth at all. Isa just slept with him, but never thought about him, never reflected on him, and never seemed to have genuine feelings for him. Their supposed romance lacked any substance.

Isa as a character gave me major “I’m not like other girls” vibes, which quickly grew tiresome. Rafe, on the other hand, was inconsistent to the point of being frustrating—he’d think or say one thing and then do something entirely different. He kept repeating that Isa was “his, his, his,” yet their interactions never went beyond sleeping together. There was no real romance or build-up between them.

And when Isa was attacked (a trope I’m already tired of), guess what? Rafe wasn’t even around. Other men swooped in to save her, while Rafe remained completely unaware of what happened. To make it worse, Isa then decided to hide who attacked her, just like every other stereotypical Wattpad FMC.

Overall, the book lacked emotional depth, consistency, and believable romance. It felt disjointed, cliché, and unsatisfying. Definitely not for me.

Absolutely enjoyed reading Wicked Wolves and Tangled Truths! Legit read it in 1 whole day. It was a book that pulled me in and I couldn't stop reading til the end! I loved the enemies to lovers/bully trope and this definitely did not disappoint. Add in that the alphahole MMC falls first... mm. Just something about a strong, asshole, brute falling for someone first just gets me.

The panic attacks that the FMC goes through after her attack.. shew. I felt like I was enduring them with her and the insecurity she feels after the attacks broke me. It actually kind of hit close to home as I have felt those emotions too.

Overall, loved this story and need to read the next one!

If you like enemies to lovers, bully, He falls first, diverse characters, paranormal romance ... this book is for you. HEA guarenteed that leads into the next book.

4.5 / 5 stars - this could have been a 5 star but I felt like there was something left out with the vampire attacks. I honestly was expecting since the 1 vampire got away in the 2nd attack, that Rafe would have hunted him down and made him pay for attacking Isa and Desmond, but nothing happened in regards to it. Unless there is something in reference to the attacks in the other books in the series. But it was definitely a great book and I highly recommend!

So many plots left open

So this was angsty AF, and I’m not really a fan of the bully romance genre but I did like this book. First I’ve read by the author. I will say I HATED all the Sabrina OW drama. Also, we never got her put in her place and she didn’t get any consequences for all the crap she did. And the the whole vampire attack at the game where Sabrina happened to be running in the parking lot then the vampires mention they are working for someone to take our girl out but then even after another vampire attack we get no closure or any answers. Nobody pays for it. It feels very unfinished and like the author forgot to close up some of the most important parts of the story. Then we get the the end yet Isa doesn’t even ever mention the word MATE..ummm hello? With?! I know we have 2 more books in the series but there’s issues that are imperative to THIS storyline that need to be answered and resolved. And I NEED Sabrina to pay dearly.

4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ & 1.5🌶️. This was a decent enough book with okay world building. There’s multiple species of shifter included, as well as fae, witches and vampires. All of which attend hellhound high. Isa looses her mum and is forced to live with her biological human father as she’s a minor. He basically has nothing to do with her and only his assistant is in the picture. She’s isolated and away from her pack and some of the other species see this as an opportunity to strike. There is a species treaty, but as a lone wolf she’s vulnerable. Poor girl gets targeted left right and centre, until Rafe the son of the current alpha of the south pack claims her. They kind of hate eachother so it’s sort of an enemies to lovers/bully romance theme. But eventually they can’t fight their wolves attraction to each other. The plot was very basic and so was the spice so for me it wasn’t my favorite.

I liked this book and also the 2nd one but unfortunately I have not read the 3rd one because it has a cliffhanger and the 4th book cannot be found anywhere even though it was supposed to be published in 2022. This is the 2nd series from this author who also published under another name that I have had problems with the last book. I don’t like when you cannot finish the series. The last series that I read under her other name I had to buy the final book in paperback, this series that does not seem to be an option. Now maybe she changed publisher when she changed her name but I am not a fan of crap like this.

Feels so weird that I’ve read this before but not as a paranormal book but was a nice change but just doesn’t feel so much like a paranormal book more then a contemporary book but nonetheless Definitely loved the start to this series it’s a standalone but part of a series I’m definitely excited to read about jordy and joaninha in the next book but as for this one I loved every single one of the characters such good chemistry between isa and rafe and I love des and jordy loved all the side characters can’t wait to see what happens in the next book I hope to see more of the others aswell

I was in a reading slump but this book took me out of it.
I really liked it even though I think it could be even better.

-------------------------------------
"Isa's mine. She has a lot to answer for and I'm pissed as hell with her, but she's still mine."

"I'm not uncomfortable in his arms. In fact, I'm very comfortable. Like, this is where I belong. Right here in his embrace."

The storyline had a lot going on, but the author brought it all together. I can't wait to read more from this author. I received this book as a Free copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.

So many plot holes

The book was okay. It had potential, but too many plot holes, undeveloped stuff, 1and not enough character building. I was interested enough to finish the book, which is good.

Would be 5 stars, but I don't like the ending plot wise. The romance part was fine. The storyline felt unresolved. If it's supposed to be an interconnected standalone, it should feel resolved at the end of each book.

Took me a whike to get into this book, I almost dnf, I am glad I stuck with it, I even cried for Isa.
The only thing disappointing was the ending, it seemed all rushed mand some of the issues weren't mentioned again nor the vampires,it just felt a bit rushed and unfinished to me.

An amazing first book for me by this author. Isa is a shifter without a home. Living with her human father is definitely not ideal. Will there be romance or happiness for her. Loved it.

Phenomenal.

Great urban fantasy. I love the series. I was immediately hooked on the characters. Each of the books can be stand alone but are enriched together.
