When the war ended, the Zodark spies—the Mukhabarat—were dispatched to find Earth, to map Sol, the heart of the Republic. Upon its discovery, a plan was hatched, a fleet was formed, a superweapon created, and nothing would be the same.
The calm had been breached.
A new war began.
When a momentary rip in space-time appeared, a hostile fleet emerged. The Zodarks’ superweapon caught the Republic by surprise. As they approached Earth, the invasion force had a final obstacle to overcome—the vaunted yet untested planetary defense system. Would it hold?
Viceroy Miles Hunt had one chance, one final roll of the dice.
Could he rally a disjointed fleet in time to save the Republic?
Meanwhile, Dr. Katō Sakura found something. Could the answers to the demise of the Humtars be the key to developing a weapon to stop the Collective?
Facing a total collapse of Earth’s defense, Admiral Halsey made a final move, sacrificing the queen to protect the king. But was it too little, too late?
The fleet had been shattered.
Then a wormhole appeared—and the course of humanity changed forever.
I picked up this because it was downloaded on the kindle. So i went in blind, but this was exciting and easy to follow I really enjoyed the story. I would definitely recommend it to someone if they enjoy scifi books.
So it continues and again these authors have delivered a superb story continuing on from the previous book’s, seamlessly and with no deviation from the storyline.
I read a couple of reviews prior to starting this book and was struck by one who commented on the fact the authors had used the names from, Band of brothers, I thought this was an excellent touch to remember fallen soldiers and honour these men’s memories. Me thinks the person that wrote this review really needs to get over themselves.
I would highly recommend this book and these authors, they have a capacity for storytelling that is second to none and they keep you enthralled throughout their books. I just hope it won’t be long until the next book is released..!!!
I just finished book 7 of this series. I typically read a number of books at the same time, however, I am just going through one book and immediately to the next one! Can't wait to see what happens next! Also, I read the entirety of the Monroe Doctrine several years ago. Fantastic series and why I started on this series. Just glad there are a number of books left in the series. Kudos to the authors for sure.
Wow! That kinda says it all. This is one of James bests yet! I couldn't put the book down and loved/hated the ending (loved it cause it was so good, hated it because I didn't want it to end and I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the next installment!!) Everything about this book was great and good. I have to say, I was not into science fiction, but I sure am now! Thanks James and Miranda!
I contributed more in terms of content to this book than I have to the previous books in our Rise of the Republic series. I had a whole lot of fun crafting the storyline for the Kites. This far in, it can be hard to keep all the threads woven together, but we are doing our best to create a tapestry that holds firm. I hope you enjoy this installment.
Most of the book was slow and lacked the magic that I loved. Decisive action, simple unrealistic progress, no hard trade-offs. Now we started getting political a little bit and yeah... that's not why I'm here. Others do it well this isn't that.
But then the end of this book. Simply so good. Can't even wait to start book 8. Starting now.
Fantastic build up in the story. Really liked the cloak and dagger side show of how intelligence try to balance spying, counter intelligence and more. Also the importance of melding everything together. Really well done.
Excellent book. Although it ended a little abruptly. I like to see the battles fully played out in the book. Not spread out between two books. besides that while written book. Looking forward to book eight!
enjoyable storyline, can’t wait to read the next book
As I said, the storyline is enjoyable, a little bit of what I always thought the future might be like. Looking forward to reading the next book. Also, keep wondering if Netflix or Amazon will be making this in to a new series
Military conflict can be confusing but these authors make it palatable for me. This is a view from a human perspective and alien perspective. Its amazing how this was conveyed.
Earth sees a massive wave of terrorist and spies as they open their doors to everyone in the galaxy. When will the government learn that the blood is on their hands?
Although this volume does advance the basic story, reading it felt as if the author was paid by the word. It should have been half as long and actually edited rather than expanded with juvenile filler. Even though I have gotten this far into the series, after this volume I doubt that I will waste more time to finish it.
