Poetry

I have this thing with poetry, that it's art and subjective. I always rate poetry high because I am nobody to tear down another person's art. With that being said, even if that weren't my policy, this book would still get 5 stars from me. The poems started pretty tame, and I had a moment when I took too many seconds computing what a kitten was doing in a poem. Then it hit me lol. Then the poems got a bit racier. Any book that combines the two words 'flesh' and 'sword' is aces in my eyes. It was more than erotic. It got deep. Like 'filthy hands rubbing souls '. My fave was about Lipstick and which shade to wear, and I'm not even sure why. I don't consider myself artsy, but I do appreciate poetry from time to time. Also, kudos to the author for incorporating the deadly sins together into something so beautiful. Do I smell lust right now? Or is it just me? Oh yeah, the line 'F*** me like I owe you money' is genius. Erotica lovers would totally get off on this book

Donna A Latham clearly understands the audience for her poetry because, in Compulsions, she has created some astute pieces of writing that manage to combine the warm anticipation of the erotic with the cold dread of horror. Her economical use of words allows the tension to build perfectly and, as readers, we don’t know if the conclusion is going to be what we most desire or what we most fear. These poems are intelligent, unsettling and beautifully composed.  Well worth investigating.

I'm not a fan of poetry but there are a few writers out there that do it well enough to capture my attention. Latham is one of those special few. Now, this collection is on the spicy side, so be prepared when you dive in.

When you crack open the cover of a book by Latham, you know to expect the dark and the erotic. Like her previous works, the wording is just so well done that it cannot help but mesmerize the reader. Gaze into the abyss of her mind and you'll thank yourself afterwards. Donna is one of those writers that is an instant buy from those who know her name and what her pages entail, be her next victim.

Everyone should take an hour or two and read D.A. Latham’s collection of dark poetry, Compulsions.

When I read poetry, THIS is what I seek. These poems shine an unflinching light on their subject matter which is dark, candid, earnest, erotic, humorous, sad, and angry. With verses that are brutally degrading yet boldly empowering, sometimes in the same line, this collection cuts to the bone.

Amazing stuff. I look forward to reading more.

Artful confessions of a poetess.

When I met Latham at an author event a couple of years ago, I jumped at the chance to get a copy of her poetry book, Compulsions. The short works contained within are electric, soul-bearing, heart-quickening explorations of inner roadways, luxuriating at the intersection of love and lust. It's always a daring thing to confess how we want to use and be used by others, and that honesty in itself is just as steamy as any of the acts described therein.

This is more than just a book of poems. This is a book of poems that engages your senses. You'll taste, touch, smell, and see what is described and want more by the time you finish each one. But then the next will engage you and satisfy while still leaving you a little hungry. Sensual, intimate, and often times downright dirty, I can't recommend this collection enough.

Another fabulous peek in the dark erotic depths of Ms Latham's mind. She delivers delicious little snacks in this book of sexy stories. It was a perfect appetizer before starting in on a much heavier read. Recommended if you have a little time to kill or you want a little something something while in bed.

Couldn't possibly think of a better book to share with your partner as you both stay in bed on a lazy weekend afternoon and read to each other.
Also this is probably the closest I've gotten to blushing since I was a kid.
Filthy poetry at its finest.
