"High-Stakes Blizzard" is a romantic suspense novel. Though the snow storm was never bad enough to threaten their lives, the danger from their desperate pursuer and Rain's questionable decisions did keep the suspense high. David would live a much longer, happier life if he stayed far away from Rain. There were several issues that stood in the way of Rain and David having a good relationship, and Rain only started to work on one of them. All of her family members died suddenly on her, so she's terrified of losing David to his dangerous firefighter job. By the end, she decided to "trust God's plan" and realized that David hadn't died in the last five years, so she'd lost all of that time with him and staying away hadn't stopped her from worrying. Ok, good start! But...other issues.

David appreciated Rain's confidence, but she want to do everything her way. David realized that constantly fighting over who got to lead would probably ruin their relationship. Rain even undermined his efforts to help her rather than trust that he might have a good plan even if he didn't explain it to to her first. Rain also had contempt for him, a strong, fit firefighter. She literally threw herself off the cliff where her brother fell to his death...and she only sprained her ankle. It was bad enough that she had to call him for help, but then she was skiing for hours with no problem. Yet when a bullet "just skimmed" his arm, she's certain that he won't be able to keep up with her, let alone think straight. David even caught hints of this contempt later on but dismissed it. Anyway, Rain didn't trust his judgment, skills, or physical endurance. David rightly questioned some of her actions but decided he had to blindly trust her if their relationship was going to work. The main reason for their getting back together was that they couldn't resist each other.

Add to this, the author seemed to lose track of things she said. Rain thought about how badly in debt she and her brother still were and how tempting the illegal money was. But when asked at the end, she claimed she had a good savings with enough money to spend on buying a house. Someone got a minor injury, but at the end, it suddenly was a life-threatening injury and was described differently, too. And Rain was an ER nurse. But outside in the freezing cold, she cut open David's coat and poured a bottle of cold water on his arm (and coat). This action wasn't even necessary, and they had both previously thought about how just sweating could cause hypothermia! Grr. Anyway, there was no bad language or sex.

I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. I read an Advanced Reader Copy. Hopefully, some of my complaints will have been fixed in the final copy.

4 stelle e mezza

High-Stakes Blizzard by Rebecca Hopewell was fast paced novel that felt like a Christian novel. It was a clean second chance romance filled with blizzards and the intense action starts immediately. They are on the run the entire novel. It’s was just a quick entertaining read. I probably would read another by the author.

Gracious... I need a nap after reading this book! I feel like I have been running from an unknown assailant along with the characters. To make matters even harder, they are running for their lives in a blizzard. Rain Jordan came back to her family's mountain home to try and gain some closure due to the death of her brother. Instead of peace she finds she is being hunted by someone who wants something from her that they think she has, and she knows nothing about it.

Her only hope of survival is her ex-boyfriend, David Hernandez. He is a firefighter and is definitely capable of assisting her, but the question is will he want to help her?

The action is full fledged running or skiing through treacherous snow covered mountains all while battling the elements and trying to survive the elements, as well as the perpetrator who wants to harm her. They cannot even get a chance to catch their breath before they have to run again. I needed a break as well!

This was a well written, suspense filled book with a second chance romance stewing underneath. The characters were awesome. They both needed to learn to let go and live. It was a clean, easy to read mystery with plenty of action. The scenery around them sounded beautiful, but also very scary. This book showed that we cannot live in fear of life, or we will later live with regret for what we missed.

Thank you to Harlequin books and NetGalley for this ARC.

After Rain Jordan’s brother, Brandon was killed in a fall from a mountain ledge near their cabin on Crystal Lakes, California she knew she was going to have to come home to find out the cause. It had been 7 long months of working in the ER away from their mountain home but the loss drove her to quit her job and travel north. She had promised him she would take care of his dog, Maple and the time was coming that she needed to fulfill that promise. As she approached Crystal Lake she felt the need to visit one of their favorite hiking spots. She pulled into the cabin drive, dropped her things off, put on skis and took off for the picnic ledge by the cave. In her mind she knew Brandon would never fall off tehe ridge on his own. Had someone pushed him? All along the journey with Maple she worked through her thoughts and decided it was necessary to find out what really happened.
High-Stakes Blizzard by Rebecca Hopewell will be published by Love Inspired on February 21, 2023. I appreciate their allowing me to read and review Hopewell’s latest suspense novel via NetGalley. From the beginning Rain gave us a story that showed the reader there was never a time she would give up at anything, not anymore. Her last 5 years of loneliness lead her on a path to regain a new life in the mountains she dearly loved. This excellent excursion of her dangerous circle back to home is a well written diary of how she reclaimed a new course to freedom and family.

I read the print of this really good book. I love the books that have action in them and this one sure does right from the beginning. A girl is wondering what happened to her brother and then she gets into the thick of it without knowing it while she is knee deep in a snow storm. Rebecca hit a in the park home run with this!

This is a Clean Second Chance Romantic Suspense, and this book is part of the Mountain Rescue series. There were some things that were repeated several times in this book that I think could not have been brought up so many times, but it really did not bother me. It could bother some other readers. This is a fast paced action and suspense filled read. The second chance romance was in the background throughout this book, but this book was mostly the mystery and suspense with a lot of action and a little romance. I could not put this book down. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Love Inspired Suspense) or author (Rebecca Hopewell) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

HIGH-STAKES BLIZZARD by Rebecca Hopewell is part of the Mountain Rescue Series. It’s the fast-paced, engaging story of Rain Jordan and David Hernandez as they try to get over the hurt of the past, stay ahead of the man determined to do them harm, and figure out what the future may hold, whether separate again or together.

Rain was only 18 years old when her parents were killed by a drunk driver leaving Brandon, her older brother, as orphans. All they had was each other and a stack of bills left behind. Brandon was determined that they could manage and insisted that Rain continue her dream of going into the medical field. Although dreams of becoming a doctor were out of financial range, she did go to college for her nursing degree. She started off working in the ER, but now she’s a nurse in an eye doctor’s office, which was less stressful.

Seven months ago, her brother left her Maple, his German Sheppard, to go out for a while. He never returned. They said he fell off Crystal Ridge, but Rain never could quite wrap her head around why he was there or that he would have fallen off on his own. It wasn’t until then that she knew the full extent of their financial situation and how heavy a toll her education had put on it. Brandon had said he had it all worked out, but how? They’d already sold their parent’s home and there had been nothing else except the cabin on Crystal Lake. She had refused to sale it because the memories were too strong to let it go.

After losing her parents and then Brandon, she thought coming back to the family cabin on Crystal Lake and spreading his ashes on Crystal Ridge would bring her peace. Instead, it left her just as confused and bewildered as before. Then while on top of the ridge a man on a snowmobile changed everything. He started to demand what was rightfully his making reference to a business deal with Brandon and issued treats that she had until noon or else. In the process of escaping this man, she injured her ankle. With no other options, she reached out to the one man that she was sure she was the last person on earth he wanted to hear from. She called David knowing that regardless of their part, he would come.

David’s job in search and rescue was very dangerous. So dangerous that when he had gotten hurt 5 years earlier, Rain had walked out of the hospital and his life – the life she’s promised to share forever when she accepted his proposal for marriage. It had cut him to the core and it’s taken years to get to where he can at least accept it and move on. When he does hear from her, she needs his help. He will handle this as any other rescue, or at least that’s what he tells himself. He finds her and takes her to the home he shares with his sister, who use to be Rain’s best friend.

Next morning, when David takes Rain to her cabin, they find it trashed confirming that her brother had been in something and now someone was looking for whatever “it’ was. Something David said sparked a memory that led Rain to a clue. When the snowmobile man shows back up, can they get away in order to follow up on it? Shots fired, they manage to get away, but not without consequences. Can they stay ahead of the snowmobile man? What had Brandon gotten himself into? Was his death an accident? Will learning the truth give Rain closure to the past? How will injuries play out in what happens? Will the blizzard be a deciding factor? Can Rain and David work through the pain of the past and possibly understand now more of how the other had felt? Even after they get through the events of the present, since both of their circumstances hasn’t changed – he still loves the job he’s felt call to do, which puts him in danger whenever he's called out – she’s still petrified of having to go through the loss of anyone else she loves – will their future hold a repeat of the past? Dare they hope to get through this and for a future? “Hope was a dangerous thing – so light and magical, but ultimately at the mercy of the fickle winds of life.” P.139 Is it true that true love never dies?

HIGH-STAKES BLIZZARD is a fabulous story of danger, suspense, family, searching for the truth and living with the answers found, forgiveness, romance and second chances. Rebecca Hopewell wraps it all with a thread of faith letting us know that with God on our side that we can endure and get through the roughest of conditions with prayer and conviction that God can if it’s his will. I highly recommend HIGH-STAKES BLIZZARD! It’s a FIVE STAR story that you won’t be able to put down once you start reading.

I receive a copy of this book with no requirement or expectations of a review. All opinions are completely my own.

That little bit of a blurb pretty much sums up this book. It sounds a lot more interesting that it actually was at least for me.

This is a second chance romance and pretty much the whole thing happens out in the freezing snow. Rain's brother is dead and she went to the cliff he died on to sort of have a memorial where she is confronted by a stranger on a snowmobile and a gun. He says that her brother had something that belongs to him and he wants it, she has no clue what the man is talking about.

Quick thinking gets her away from the man but it also lands her at the bottom of a large snow bank and a hurt ankle, so she has no other choice but to call David her ex who lives in the area. He didn't expect to get a call from her but David goes anyway. This puts him in a lot of trouble as there is a guy with a gun trying to find them.

So basically they are trying to figure out what her brother was into and keep away for a bad guy in the freezing cold snow while they are on skis and the other guy has a snowmobile. And that is pretty much the whole of this story. We are in the snow, the freezing cold snow, though they rarely mention being cold. I don't care if they have great snow gear on I know I would be cold!

It also gives them a chance to think about their past relationship, the one that Rain desolved because of her fear of him getting hurt.

To me this was kind of the most boring action packed book ever as we are in the woods the whole time. Could be just me as I don't really care for books that just take place in one place especially a cold place and the two people don't really seem to be cold during the whole thing. There was a few mentions towards the end of the book but I am sure a couple hours in the blizzard conditions I would be frozen and complaining even if in my head.

Thank you to Love Inspired and Rebecca Hopewell for a copy of High-Stakes Blizzard. I don't give away spoilers in my reviews.
I love adventure books set in snowy settings! I really liked that this book is an adventure/mystery book with clean romance.
The main characters - Rain and David, are a couple who broke up five years ago. Rain is targeted from something her brother did and isn't sure how she will survive. Her dog, Maple, is her constant companion and also a great animal character.
David helps Rain in her time of need. The adventure and setting were exciting to read about and easy to imagine.
I don't want to give away the ending so I will just say it was a nice clean romance full of adventure to read.

There was so much going on in this book that I couldn't put it down. So theres concerned Rains just trying to see the pieces her brother left behind and got herself roped into some issues that her brother started. Now some guy makes it clear that if he doesn't get what he want's pretty much not so nice things will happen but luckily she escapes but its clear the guy will be back. Looking for a bit of help she calls her local ex David whose always up for saving people and now they are just trying to survive. I enjoyed seeing how the book played out. There was plenty of suspense to go around and twists and such that I just got hooked. Gotta say if you love being kept on your toes with a mystery with a bit of second chance at romance you'll like this book I know I did.

When Rain’s life is in danger, she risks her heart by asking her former lover David, for help. It ended badly for them 5 years ago, and they’re both wary and guarded. Despite their misgivings, they work together to evade their pursuer and other hazards along the way.

I thought this was a good second chance romance with action, mystery and family relationships. Fast-paced and the description of the scenery was amazing. Clean read with Christian themes. Read this to see if Rain and David make it through and find a happy ending!

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.

High-Stakes Blizzard by Rebecca Hopewell is a fast-paced, action-packed, and suspense-filled read. The second-chance romance lingers in the background throughout the book, but the focus is on the mystery and suspense, with plenty of action and a hint of romance. I was utterly captivated and couldn't put it down.

Fast paced read

I really enjoyed this story. David and Rain have a past history, so when Rain gets in trouble, she calls her ex. Both have to deal with their past and the trouble following them. And the HEA was worth the wait. Excellent story.

High-Stakes Blizzard by Rebecca Hopewell is a Love Inspired Suspense Mountain Rescue.

I love mountain rescues. Add in a blizzard and I couldn’t wait to read this book. The author does an amazing job of creating heart-pounding tension with the way the snowmobile chases Rain and David around the mountain. There were times I couldn’t read fast enough! And toward the end, when David is injured. I won’t give a spoiler, but it’s so heartbreakingly touching. It’s my favorite moment.

If you love mountains, snow, and romance then grab a copy of High-Stakes Blizzard!

I really enjoyed this book. It was very exciting, and I was on pins and needles wondering what would happen next. I enjoyed getting to know the heroine, Raine, and the hero, David, and the reasons why they broke up in the past. It was heartwarming to see how as they faced a life and death situation it helped changed their perspective on life and on their future together.
