Obeying Evil: The Mockingbird Hill Massacre Through the Eyes of a Killer

Rate this book

Well I gave this book 1 ⭐️ This psychopath was sick in the head. He fathered a child with his daughter “Sheila” He eventually killed every single person that he felt wronged him. He received the death penalty. Nonetheless,, the book was boring. The author normally writes really good cases but this one I felt was written quickly and not much thought was put into it. I most definitely will not read this book 📕 again…

I’d never heard of this prolific mass murderer. I guess that’s a good thing as that means he won’t be infamous. Family annihilators are the worst, especially when it includes children. And this creep took more little lives than I thought was possible. And with zero thoughts to what he had done. So callous and do very very creepy - I detest what this man did. It’s a shame he wasn’t a victim during his military years as the world would have been a better place if he had been.

Obeying Evil: The Mockingbird Hill Massacre Through the Eyes of a Killer (True Crime) was another good true crime book by Ryan Green. Ronald Gene Simmons went on the most disturbing family killing spree in the United States. In 1987 he spent a week murdering fourteen members of his family, a former co-worker and one stranger. When he retired after twenty years of service in the Air Force, his life was full of instability. He wanted to have complete control of his family. This was another great true crime audiobook for any fan of true crime. I can't wait to read more by Ryan Green.

A poorly written true crime book with some trashy flair. A story I didn’t know, but would have preferred to read about in a different way.

I do not recommend this book. It has factual information but is also written like a fiction narrative, with thoughts from the killer, his wife, & his children. This is problematic—all of these people are dead & we don’t actually KNOW what they were thinking (or doing) unless there are records to prove it. The author also wrote about the murders of Simmons’s children and grandchildren as if they all happened on the same day, which is not factual. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Green spent a lot of time imagining scenarios and scenes that are not even real. He seemed to have too much fun getting into Simmons’s head & repeatedly called women bitches in addition to writing other misogynistic comments. We get it: RGS hated women, especially his wife, but we don’t need fake thoughts from him inserted into the story for us to see that. His actions were enough. (Green also had too much fun describing each horrific murder, referring to the children as “runts,” “worthless,” and “scum.”)⁣⁣
⁣⁣
We don’t need more sensationalization or speculation within the realm of true crime because it is riddled with it already.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I will seek different materials to study this case further, including podcast episodes and news articles containing facts rather than imagined scenarios.⁣⁣

**Ronald Gene Simmons is considered the most prolific mass murderer in Arkansas history, with 16 victims (most being his own family, ages 1-46) over a week-long period in 1987
