It’s 5:04 AM in the UK and I’m having a rare night of full-blown insomnia. Instead of doom scrolling social media, I somehow managed to start and finish a book in one sitting.
It’s possible this review is barely coherent. I’m giving it my best shot anyway 🙃😵💫🤪
Here’s what any prospective reader of this book needs to know: **The writing is appalling.**
There’s everything from tense inconsistencies to sloppy grammatical errors to shit that makes zero sense.
Some examples:
1️⃣ “The survival part of me whispered that I needed to keep this man in my sights.”
Uhhh what the feck is “the survival part of me”?? Are you referring to instincts? You brain? Specify. Otherwise you could very well be referring to your weenus.
2️⃣ The novel opens with an excerpt. There are 10 paragraphs in total. Three of them begin with “But”
3️⃣ “The image of him lying in that prison cell, thinking about me as he found his pleasure, was a heady sensation inside of me.”
Lordy lord this is a mess. Firstly, this type of sentence structure requires Part A and Part C to make sense without Part B. This is what that looks like:
“The image of him lying in that prison cell was a heady sensation inside of me.”
“The image of him” cannot be a “heady sensation”
It can *cause* a heady sensation. It can *illicit* a heady sensation. But an image is not a sensation.
Secondly, “inside of me” is useless. Of course it’s a sensation experienced internally. “Heady” literally connotes the mind, hence why it’s defined as an exhilarated, euphoric *emotional state*.
4️⃣ “And it all seemed to move at light speed that broke the sound barrier.”
The speed of light is about one million times faster than the speed of sound. So if something is (yes, even figuratively) travelling at the speed of light, you broke the sound barrier a loooooong time ago.
Once again, if we chop off that nonsense at the end we’ll have a sentence that makes sense.
5️⃣ “Come” and “cum” are both used as a substitute for ejaculate. PICK ONE AND STICK WITH IT. The lack of consistency drove me bonkers.

I also had issues with what I can only describe as the leakage of strict, internalized adherence to stereotypical gender norms.
I’ve read dark romances where the FMC and MMC are highly aligned with those norms and yet the execution isn’t unpleasant. So it can be done. It was not accomplished in Little Bird.

The only redeeming qualities:
1️⃣ The main storyline is fairly interesting
2️⃣ The dirty talk worked well with the characterization of the MMC

I've beeennn dying for Dmitry book since I met him long ago and I screamed. This man is everything I wanted crazy, obessed dirty talking!! It did take him awhile since at first glance he didnt have Claudia on his radar since she was his sister in law and she was young.
But once he was in jail and he got letters from her he still didn't take the bait until she sent pictures at 18 and all bets were off. He saw her in a different light and he was moved that she sent letters just talking to him. So once he got out he had one goal make her his in every way. Even with her in a convent lol. It didn't last because he made sure Gio (he's getting a story to) knew she was his. It caused alittle problems not them marrying but Gio secert he didn't share with his sisters.
I do wish we had more of a daddy kink. We had alittle. And we see our next couple 😈😈😈 Gio and someone's sister lordddd that bathroom scene..
Low angst, no cheating, slight secondary character, drama, sexy times, virgin gal and no manwhore

Wanting her was a mistake. But one I would make, regardless.
Woah, this book was a rollercoaster and I enjoyed every second of it. It starts off with Claudia being 15 years old and in love with her brother-in-law, Dmitry. He doesn't encourage it at all, nor does he know of it. She's just a young girl to him.
Soon, though, Dmitry is arrested and Claudia starts sending him letters in prison. They're innocent at first, but when she turns 18 they turn a little naughty. When she starts including pictures of herself, Dmitry knows this girl is HIS.
I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve counted the freckles across the bridge of your nose. Seventeen. I love it all, in fact. Hearing from you is the only bright thing in my otherwise miserable fucking existence. I should tell you to leave me alone. But I won’t. So go on, sweetheart, be my good girl, and keep them coming.
When Claudia is 20, she's sent to the convent for reasons. Dmitry is released from prison and goes straight to her. There's some light stalking, but it all goes to plan.
“Kogda ya ne s toboy, mne kazhetsya, chto ya kopayu sebe grebanuyu mogilu.” When I’m not with you it feels like I’m digging my own fucking grave.
Their chemistry is INTENSE and FIERY. My kindle literally melted just reading about this couple. He's a dirty talker and he's sooo good at it! This book features a light daddy kink, wish there was more though. I loved reading about this couple and can't wait for the next book in the series!!

Although this is considered a standalone, it starts off five years in the past, which is during book 2 (Nikolai and Amara). If you haven’t read book 2, then some things are gonna get spoiled 😅.
Claudia (15-20) has a crush on Dmitry (30-35). All hell breaks loose and Dmitry goes to prison. While he’s there, Claudia writes him letters, but he doesn’t respond since she’s under age 😬. When she turns 18, she starts sending him pictures of herself, and that’s when he notices how much she’s matured.
When he finds out that Claudia’s brother (Gio) wants to marry her off, he knows exactly what he’s gonna do when he gets out…
He’s gonna claim his bride 🤷🏻♀️

What I liked/loved:

—the 🔥. Listen. This is jenika Snow… she always delivers the dirtiest, filthiest 🔥possible, and this did not disappoint 🫠. First kiss doesn’t happen until about 50% along with some dirty talk and talented fingers, at 60% he eats his cereal like the hearty breakfast that it is, and by 70% full 🔥 🥵

This is the fourth book in The Underworld Kings series and features Dmitry and Claudia. Dmitry finds himself in jail and Claudia writes to him. Initially, Dmitry only sees Claudia as his too young sister-in-law and tries to warn her off but when she grows and matures, he begins to take notice and decides she is the one for him.
When Dmitry is released from prison, he sets a plan in motion to make Claudia his despite all the obstacles. Claudia is completely in love with Dmitry and isn't afraid of the ruthless man that wants to claim her.
Dmitry was the perfect combination of possessive, obsessive, and dominant. I wish there had been a little more Daddy kink in here. If you're going to write Daddy kink, then go for it. But I did love Dmitry and his one track mind of claiming Claudia.
Claudia wasn't quite as badass as I thought she was originally meant to be written but I liked her nonetheless. Both Claudia and Dmitry had explosive chemistry and the dirty talk was off the charts hot.
The only thing that bothered me about this story was the first half was entirely too long. I wanted more of the present. However, if you've read this series so far and liked it, you'll most definitely like this one. Jenika, thanks for always giving us the best smut with a plot. Can't wait to read Gio's story!

i was pretty hesitant to read this book bc i absolutely despise relationships with too much of an age gap, where the h is barely legal and the ml is pushing 50, idk if its just me but i just find such “relationships” to be borderline predatory🤢🤢
so i was really happy when i found out that though the h started writing the ml letters (when he was in jail for a crime he didn’t commit for 5 years, as she had no one to talk to) when she was 15, the H showed no interest in her and even replied when she’s 17 years old i.e., after 2 years of sending him letters the H finally reverts back telling to her to stop doing this and that he was too old for her
now it wasn’t till she was 18 that the H realised he had feelings for her and wanted her as a woman, that her letters had become an integral part of his day.
repeatedly, numerous times it is mentioned in the book how the hero had been in love with the h for 2 years and that no one would take her away from him no matter how fucked up the age gap was btw them,😮💨🥹😅

This is the kind of book I truly avoid . I thought I would have something to be interested but I got nothing . Teenage girl fell for a man . That is it ,you see it is simple. Everything is working for their favours . Her older brother didn't argue , her sister tried to be the voice of parent for three sentences only. Family business and contract signed . She was happy to be with him .okay where is the problem i don't know . Sex and lust are all inside the book although the main couple has potential to have a better book. Unfortunately they got nothing except sex scenes that I skipped looking for something to happen. Even the dialogu was poor . No suspense or Drama .Don't have high expectations because this book has nothing to offer

This was definitely interesting 💀🤡- there were a couple of inconsistencies with the writing, but I ended up enjoying it overall.
The general plot to this was actually pretty interesting, and for the most part, I actually enjoyed the romance- it just wasn't that fledged out.
This was just a relatively simple, low-commitment mafia book, with an obsessed Hero, who actually made good on his threats (which we love to see 💀).
This wasn't the best, but it was super easy to get into, and good for a lowkey read.

І так чому ж я саме вирішила почати з неї.
1. Анотація на стільки мене заінтригувала, що я кинула все і почала одразу читати.

Книга поділена на 2 частини, минуле і теперішнє.
Клаудія - одна з дітей капо "Коза Ностри" - Марко. Завжди зазнає жорстокості зі сторони батька. Але її вогник не так просто потушити, так як вона знає що скоріш в неї буде шлюб за домовленостю, і вона стане трофейною дружиною, їй втрачати нічого, тому вона завжди кидає виклик батькові.
Її старший брат Джіо та сестра Амара завжди намагаються її захистити.
Але одного разу Клаудія вирішує по шпигувати за батьком та натикається на розмову батька з главою "Братви", вони обговорюють шлюб за домовленністю між її сестрою Амарою і братом загадкового чоловіка.
Завдяки батьку вона дізнається що цей чоловік Дмитрій.
І він її приваблює тим зо не боїться її батька і йде йому на перекір, навіть як дрібничку ставить на стіл стакан з віскі без підставки. Хоча знає що Марко перфікціоніст і ненавидить це.
Клаудії не щастить і її застає батько за шпіонажем, і хоче вдарити її. Ну тут зрозуміло хто приходить їй на поміч. Все, в очах Клаудії Дмитрій стає героєм.😎
Там було ще багато подій цікавих. Але скажу що одого разу як Клаудія гостювала в Амари з Ніко ( так, так вони покохали один одного і про них є книга🩷).
В підпільний клуб яким володіє "Братва" вірвався SWAT , та Дмитрія заарештувала та присудили йому 5 років ув'язнення.
Так і почалось листування між Клаудією. Але він відповідав всього 2 рази , перший кажучи щоб вона перестала йому писати так як ще маленька. (їй тоді було 15 , але це були листи просто з пропозицією дружби.)
А ось другий раз він написав що знає що це не правильно, але не може сказати їй зупинитись писати. (їй було вже 18-20)
Протягом 5 років вона писала йому листи, і вкладала свої фото.
Звісно в таку наполегливу дівчину не можливо було не захокатись.
І коли Дмитрій виходить з в'язниці, вгадайте куди він їде? і до кого?
Він вирішив що Клаудія його, і він її ніколи не відпустить.❤️🩹
Скажу так, що до одного моменту я не думала читати далі серію, але кінцівка була на стільки шокуюча, що я така такс мені це треба (хоча, як я не здогадалась там буквально все намікало на це, то просто як я говорю з мене поганий детектив).
Така оцінка, бо все ж таки чогось не вистачило.

This was great. It was pretty filthy and if you're a fan of age-gap with 'call me Daddy', I'm sure you'll enjoy this 😆. The 4 ⭐ is primarily for my appreciation in the consistency and continuity from Reckless Heir (which I also enjoyed).
I loved how Claudia's early infatuation progressed to something more over time. Although she and Dmitry didn't have much interaction early on because of his circumstance, they built it later on and it made this story work. I can see how some may not get the connection, but it worked for me.
I was concerned for Gio and how he'd change, but I'm really happy with how his character matured. I loved the setup of his and Tatiana's story here; can't wait to read it.

For me, this took a little while to get going. While it kept me entertained, it’s very story heavy in the beginning. But as the book progresses, so does everything else. I enjoyed Little Bird very much.
It starts with 15 year old Claudia who is basically an abused daughter of the Italian capo of Cosa Nostra. Outside of her siblings, Dmitry Petrov, pakhan of the Russian Bratva, is the first person to show her kindness.
Some shit goes down where Dmitry is detained for a bit of the book and Claudia becomes his one sided pen pal. Did I mention this is age gap? Dmitry is 15 years older than Claudia. Hence him not writing this teen back. Claudia comes of age & continues to write and finally gets a response.
Once Dmitry is free, he stops at nothing to make Claudia his. This is where all the tropes and angst and interest comes in. It’s his way or his way. No highway, you’re not getting away, this is happening type deal. The chemistry between the two of them is definitely palpable. I loved their dynamic and the issues they had to face to be together. Dmitry is a stone cold killer with BIG dick energy, but absolutely mush for his woman & doesn’t care who sees.
Google was my best friend for translating all the filthy & sweet things he says to her in Russian.
The spicy scenes…omg. Top tier as always with Jenika’s books. I think I died & came back to life once or twice. Def recommend

I absolutely loved this book . Any book that has letters, text ,emails anything of that sort between the two MC‘s I absolutely go nuts for, not sure what it does to me, but I love it. Absolutely love how Feral Dimitri is in his possession for Claudia. This man is a huge walking red flag, but I absolutely love him.

This book was definitely abit of a slower burn then jenikas other books I’ve read. I didn’t mind the slower burn as for me the first half of the book was my favourite. I LOVE mafia man in prison trope and thought the letters were a nice touch.
The lack of actual romance/relationship scene were what was stopping this from being a 5 stars. The couple don’t get together until about 50% and then we don’t really get much development. I would have liked more mafia scenes as were told how ruthless the mmc is rather than shown. I did overall still enjoy this book but I think I still prefer reckless heir.

It was well written with relatively low relationship angst, but probably a bit girthier than it needed to be, especially in the beginning, but moved well. The chemistry between the two MCs was fantastic and the smexy times 🔥🔥🔥. Little Bird is the 4th book in Jenika Snow's Underworld Series contributions and is a standalone, but probably best read in series order, despite most of the books running concurrently, time-wise.

Pussy hole. I...wow. That's a new one for me and if we could just call it, not that, that would be great.
That aside, this book was mostly enjoyable but it also could have been so much better. It had so many tropes in it that were catnip for me.

But the first 50% of the book was straight up boring. They have a total of maybe 3 meetings and there is no tension at all, no interaction really and I get it, she was 15 so that's fine but then we get to the letters she sends him in jail and I wonder if he didn't reply because they sent him to sleep?? Again, yes she's 15 at the start so not much could happen there but then she turns 18 and I'm thinking, YES! We're gonna get some filthy correspondence but all we get is one letter from him and it was like M+ rating at best. So the whole jail pen pal thing was disappointing. I wanted them to at least have some kind of connection here but we got nothing.
Finally at 50% we have some stuff happening and he's all ready to make her his after getting out of prison even though again they've spoken a handful of times and had some lame letter correspondence (mostly her telling him boring details of her life). The steam and story definitely did pick up here which I was happy about but then it all felt so rushed because I really felt nothing for them as a couple for the first half of the book. Give me some pining, some angst...literally anything that would have sold them as a viable couple or give me more from the time she turned 18. Huge missed opportunity to have that be the turning point and for him to write some filthy stuff to her.
The sex was hot but at times felt very much like the author stalked some smutty book groups and used descriptions for things that smutty book group girls use to describe sex acts but they would not be used in real life by a virgin. Things like "hand necklace" "breeding kink" "daddy's whore" spring to mind. It just felt a bit...weird for a virgin to be talking about stuff that way.
I would have enjoyed this book a lot more if the first half of the book had only been the first 1/4 OR the prison pen pal thing was really fleshed out with some angst and tension to sell this couple to me because I honestly didn't really get the 180 switch in the H besides her turning 18 and looking hot. I need mooooore.

I love this series and Jenika Snow...and these tropes?! So this should have been a homerun for me, but I found it to fall a bit flat. All the makings a JS story that I'd ravenously consumed...but just not my favorite. Fortunately it's super bingeable, and a fast read- but certainly not the best of the series.
The tropes are all here, the background delicious, SO MUCH of the architecture is just perfect. But I felt like the story never really went anywhere- we spend way too much time in the past, too much focus on characters' whose stories we've already heard (at times it felt more like a bonus story than their own), and the chemistry never evolved in the way I thirsted for- never deepened from the forbidden lusty steam to something some substantial. The dimension and layers I find in my most favorite of Jenika's smuttfests wasn't here, and perhaps because I LOVE LOVE LOVE the premise, my super heightened expectations made something solid feel lukewarm, too. Because I wanted so badly to be obsessed since everything I adore is part of the set-up. Still love this series, though, and excited to see what Jenika creates next.

I love this book! It is my favorite in the series.
I’ve been dying for dmitry book since I started this series, and it did not disappoint.
Claudia first meets Dmitry when she is 15 (nothing happens till she is 18) when he is meeting with her father to discuss her sister's marriage arrangement to his brother. Dmitry goes to jail and Claudia begins writing him letters. Dmitry only saw her as his younger sister in law until Claudia turned 18, and she starts sending him pictures. When he gets out of prison he wants to claim what is his.
The characters pull you in and keep you engaged. The spicy scenes were so hottt 🫠🥵. The chemistry, the spicy, the dirty talk was something else. I’m obsessed with Dmitry and Claudia.
