I gave the first 9 three stars and this one a four, but to be honest all of them were so much fun. I was home sick with the flu and about all I could do was read and sleep. These were delightful fun books and I didn't have to think, it was like watching TV in my head!!! Thank you Ms. Chase!!!
What will happen? You will just never know unless you crack open the book and start reading.
In this humorous and cozy mystery series, the reader is swept away into an escape of exploration and adventure of well-written plots, in a magical town called Spellbound. Here you find a multitude of engaging characters - paranormal people and creatures cohabitating in one realm. Emma, the heroine, is a witch of sorts and the town sleuth.
After a fun-filled bachelorette party, Emma wakes up to find her recent memories are all lost. Will Emma recover her memories in time to reverse the curse on the town and walk down the aisle and save Spellbound? This book was exciting and entertaining to the end. Good to know the entertainment will extend to another series.
This book can stand on its own, but is much easier to understand if you read the series in order, it was a clean presentation, a romantical disaster was avoided, and a mystery was solved --
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
Now that I finished all 10 books in this series, I give it 3 stars overall. I would have liked more background on Emma birth parents and why others raised her, not to mention what really happened to them. So much of the recurring story felt like it got jammed into the last book, when more could have been laid out as we went along. I also feel like the love story between Daniel and Emma was so neglected that I kind of forgot about it. I really did enjoy the books overall.
I thought this series was done with this book being the last bit of that’s the case I’m a little disappointed. Ending was quite rushed. Yes it was wrapped up but I was let down. I’m gutted. It felt like the author just lost the spark I liked throughout this series in this book.
Ladies and Gentlemen you are invited to the most anticipated wedding of Spellbound has had. We are gathering together to witness Emma and David pledge themselves together and bind themselves for their lifetime.
After the wedding we will all gather together and break the spell on spellbound.
Unfortunately, coming up to the wedding, friends will be betrayed, lives will be threatened and in the end a life will be sacrificed.
All Spells Break Loose is the tenth and final book in the Spellbound series. It's a full length novel that has light drama, humorous moments, lots of magical paranormals, and a bit of love.
Books in the series include: Curse the Day, Book 1 Doom and Broom, Book 2 Spell's Bells, Book 3 Lucky Charm, Book 4 Better Than Hex, Book 5 Cast Away, Book 6 A Touch of Magic, Book 7 A Drop in the Potion, Book 8 Hemlocked and Loaded, Book 9 All Spells Break Loose, Book 10
The final chapter in the Spellbound Paranormal series. ( there is a new series after this based in the same town but is a slightly different premise). This is number 10 in the series. Emma Hart has lost her memories because someone has given her a potion. There are people in town who don't want her to find the way to break the curse on the town that keeps everyone stuck there. Meanwhile, she has her wedding to prepare for with Daniel the handsome angel. Her friends and fellow witches from the coven rally around to help her and try to figure this out in time. Fun series! Looking forward to the next series as well.
Again an ok story as far as fitting into the series, good mystery but I still found parts didn’t flow as well as they could have and I was constantly waiting for previous storylines that hadn’t been wrapped up to be finished or at least referred to but I did love all the wedding hooha
As the series comes to an end, it is both a good thing and bad. You say goodbye to so many treacherous characters like the old mayor and the ex Sheriff, who was a complete butt head. I know change is scary, but being a complete asset about it. Daniel finally changed his fate in more ways than one.

This is the most perfect little series! It had some great twists and turns, interesting characters, a love story, and a bigger purpose. Emma Hart was such a fun narrator to follow as well! I would move to Spellbound in a heartbeat.
Wow another amazing read. Kept me in suspense holding my breath. Started thinking this is going to be the end but no to my delight we've got more books to come. Thanks to Annabel who is a brilliant writer so creative and wonderful imagination. You like books with a genre of mystery romance comedy super natural and thriller these are the books for you. 😍
These novels are charming, light, funny, fun, lgbtqa+ friendly, not religious but highly innocent. They'd be even better minus the standard elements of cultural appropriation such as voodoo dolls, spirit animals, dream catchers etc used as magical tools so to speak in a largely European set magical world.
What an enjoyable series! Emma and Daniel move into the final days before the big wedding. More black magic surrounds the Town as the remedial either work tirelessly trying to reverse the spell holdling Spellbound in its clutches. Good plot work, well written and well edited.
I finally finished the last book in this series. It was oddly comforting to read something from a series call “cozy paranormal mysteries” but now it’s time to read some other books 📚
After finishing this series, I can confidently say that this is such a fun, magical, lighthearted series to dive into! I've absolutely loved getting to know all of the different townspeople of Spellbound and the town as a whole. I think that's what Annabel Chase does best, is truly making Spellbound feel like a real place and making us feel just as much a part of it. It's so immersive, and before you know it, this world and every character in it feels so familiar. It's like coming back to Hogwarts with every book.
Again, cannot stress this enough. If you're a fan of Halloweentown or Sabrina the Teenage Witch (the 90s version!), this book series would be perfect for you. It has all of the same charm, from mythical creatures to snarky talking animals to the inevitable mayhem that ensues when a spell doesn't go quite right... These books also contain just the perfect amount of romance: fluffy and swoony, but not too steamy, which is just my preference!
Another aspect of these books that I appreciate is just how self-aware they are and how much they still tie us back to reality, even though this is a magical world. For example, Emma herself struggles with anxiety, and this is a detail that carries out throughout the whole of the series as she has to remind herself to take her anti-anxiety potion and inform others of her condition as well. It's a small detail, but one that I really appreciate being incorporated and nice to see that representation normalized, even in a magical setting! There are other moments, like Emma pointing out other peoples' bigotry and racism (yes, even when it comes to mythical creatures) that doesn't feel heavy-handed or performative. It just feels very natural, even in this magical setting, to still incorporate these universal issues, and I thought it was very well done.
Overall, I absolutely adored this series and loved flying from one book to the next. This is definitely a collection of books that will forever live in my heart.
Very disappointed to get to the final book in the series to find it too much over the top to be to really enjoyed. There was so much happening in such short amount of time that left this reader’s head spinning. There were soooo many wedding reception plans making it too much of a good thing. It was like let’s see how fast we can go in such a short timeframe. From the memory forgetting potion to being kidnapped on her wedding day and all the rest of the bouncing back and forth with everything going from character to character, it became disjointed. The telling of how Spellbound came to be was heartbreaking. This was necessary to know for Emma. That was a surprise that left tears. The remedial witches living through the human world of movies, Agnes and her unique ways of helping, the witch who protected Emma from further harm and yet cast the Spellbound (Welcome to the Hotel California) to keep from going to jail herself, the fallen Angel who made the ultimate sacrifice than chose to stay earth bound, the head of the ASS academy turned bad, etc… Yeah, Emma’s been a big help to several as a lawyer and friend, but to the entire community of Spellbound! Nope! I’m not saying that it can’t be done, but it’s hard to imagine anyone be that good to everyone that everyone in town was supposed to be invited to the wedding. Lady Weatherby, Hugo, Knightsbridge,…sure put a damper on that for a while. But now, Emma has set you paranormals free. Go out and see the world! You all deserved it since it took just about the whole community to break Raisa’s spell. Just too much going on in this final book that had me wondering what made the author want an all character recall for the reader. Sorry, but definitely not a book I would recommend.
Quick Info Standalone/Cliffhanger?: Standalone Part of a Series?: Yes ---------------------------------- Meeting the Characters Emma Hart, Daniel Starr ---------------------------------- What happens? Emma starts this book with her "bachelorette" party in a library no less. Tragedy strikes when someone slips her a memory loss potion which causes her to forget everything pre spellbound including her fiancee Daniel. She and her friends have to try and solve who gave her the potion, why and how they get her memory back, all in time for the wedding. While also defeating the other threat of kidnapping and then breaking the curse itself! Final thoughts
"Giant Chicken Boy"
This killed me! This book packs a LOT in and I didn't want it to be over though I'm glad its come to a conclusion(for the most part) there are still so many mysteries like where is Emma's mother? Why is Emma's mother scared of Emma's father? Who is her mother? The reason behind the curse is sort of less exciting but I did enjoy that twist if feel a little sad for why too... Its not something as big as I wanted it to be because you feel sorry for the person that cursed the town and the town inhabitants as well. Going to continue on the other sister series and start the continuation on with Spellbound series. Would I read again?: Yes Would I read this author again?: Yes
I received a recommendation to this series through a newsletter from this author. Having read plenty of her books (and one of the BEST series out there being her “Crossroads Queen” Series, which is a MUST read), I decided to give this one a try even though I am not into “cozy” stories as they tend to be too bland for my taste in books. I was pleasantly surprised by this series. The FMC Emma is a remarkable character. She is determined, smart, strong, funny and sarcastic. Emma finds herself trapped in a magical town and discovers she is witch. From then on, we see her trying to adapt to her new reality, and even though she is assigned as a defense lawyer, her true calling is solving the mysteries behind the crimes that are happening around the town, while fumbling her way to becoming a competent witch. There are a few potential love interests along the way and very colorful secondary characters. With each book we get to see how Emma evolves and becomes into her own. I am loving this series, there is nothing bland or mushy about it. There is mystery, magic, action and plenty of surprises. Once I started reading it, I just couldn’t put it down. Highly Recommended 💖💖💖
I rarely read cozy mysteries, but I found the first in this series while desperately searching for an available audiobook. Every book in this series is a quick little read where the problems usually don't get bigger than breast-enlargement spell pranks and a fear of heights so overwhelming it results in vomiting. I blew through this series because of the sweet relationship between Emma and Daniel, but in the process I realized a cozy mystery with no life-or-death, end-of-the-world suspense is just the ticket every now and again.
Every single one of the ten books in this series needs an editor, and the writing itself is more than adequate to the telling of the story, but not ingenious, clever, or in anyway exciting, and the more I read, that really is something I want in a book. However, I greatly enjoyed all ten books in the series and would highly recommend them, especially to anyone who loves this genre.
The final book in the Spellbound series (well, if you don’t count the author starting in with another round called Spellbound After Ever) mostly wraps up the mystery of who cursed the town and why, though there’s still some dangling loose ends where Emma’s family is concerned. I have to admit, this one started out great: Emma loses her memory, so there was a lot of the fun of the first few books. Then it just went downhill. Many of Emma’s closest friends still question whether she should marry Daniel but – mini spoiler alert, but not really because COME ON – nothing comes of that. Emma is so sweet that she almost put me into a diabetic coma, and then breaking the whole curse thing relies on a stolen line from Rent. *throws up hands*
Some of the books in this series were fun, but I’m glad it’s over.
This is the last of the series about Spellbound, at least I think so and as a result is a big longer than many of the other books in the series. After all, this book has to get Emma to the point of getting married to her angel, Daniel. In addition, she hopes to find a way to release the entire town of Spellbound so that the residents can leave and go into the outside world.
In order to do so, she has to find out what part Riesa, the ghost witch had in the placement of the original curse. To to things off, she has to deal with her enemies, which include the ex-sheriff and the ex-major. Both of whom were found lacking and replaced.
To briefly sum it up without spoilers, let's just say that Spellbound will never be the same and that much of that change is owned to Emma's coming to the town. That is to say her and her relationship with Daniel and her neighbors in Spellbound.
Finally the end. A weak one, but it fit the whole series. Most of the time Emma couldn’t remember her time since crossing the borders, so we got kind of a rehash of most books so far - boring. We also finally learned who was behind the curse - no surprise there -, who was leading the efforts to hinder the breaking of the curse - a surprise, but not in the good way, it rather felt like a desperate hat draw pick than carefully constructed building up -, and finally who was out for revenge against Emma - again no surprise. And then we were forced to see her marrying the most boring love interest I’ve encountered in a long time. The end was rushed, leaving many details out, which made sense once I read there’s a follow-up series. Ugh. This one for certain without me. I‘m just glad to finally be over with this one.
This was a great ending for a fun series. After a fun-filled bachelorette party, Emma wakes up to find her recent memories are all lost. And with her possibly being the key to breaking the curse that has trapped everyone in Spellbound, this could definitely spell trouble. Afraid to let the town know of this recent development, she relies on only a few insiders to hopefully reverse this spell and find the person or persons responsible. And then they need to see whether they can find the spell to finally break the curse. I enjoyed following Emma and her friends throughout these stories as she learns to cope with her newfound knowledge of the paranormal world, combined with her own ideas of law and morality. I was very happy to learn that there are more stories to Spellbound in the future.
Emma and her friends might be close to breaking the spell, but not everyone is happy with that- which means that when Emma loses her memory, there are a number of suspects on the list.
This book brings an end to this story arc, as we see the tearjerker answer to the curse on the town of Spellbound. This was a great story, and since it built on the nine books that preceded it, it’s absolutely not a standalone story. This time the mystery is actually part of the overarching storyline as well as the main mystery of this book. Don’t worry though, it is a worthwhile read, with a good ending, setting us up for the next series set in Spellbound.
A fun read for the paranormal cosy mystery lovers and urban fantasy enthusiasts.
Brief comments on the entire series: Before reading this series I'd never heard of Ms Chase. Amazon had a promo in January where they made both this & a second series with the same name free, & I took a chance. Glad I did! This series is excellent. It held my attention, & was always somewhat amusing. I feel like I really bonded with many of the characters. I really thought I knew who the #1 villain was for the last 2 books, & it turns out I was wrong!
HEA fans get several, & this series is pretty much appropriate for all ages (even old folks like me).
My only criticism is there were so many recurring characters of moderate importance that I had some issue remembering who they all were!
Emma is busy with wedding plans when she is given a potion at her bachelorette party which took away all her memories since she arrived in Spellbound. Now she has to try and get them back before the wedding as well as work on the curse on Spellbound. This book is more about getting her memories back and how she reacts with all the strange and wonderful supernaturals she’s met. Fortunately, her instincts are able to help her with knowing who she can trust. With flashes of memories things are a bit easier. The search for the person who made the potion is interesting bringing back those she’s defended and those she discovered doing wrong. This was a fun, easy reading, humourous book that brought the series to a satisfactory end.
