On the surface, seventeen-year-old Malaika Evans lives a picture-perfect life. She’s blessed with loving, doting parents who spoil her with all the material things a teen could want. But it’s all a carefully constructed façade. In truth, Malaika’s home life is anything but ideal. Her parents are abusive, they’re controlling, and they are forcing her into an arranged marriage to the son of a powerful couple to pay off their business debt.
Roman Rodriguez is the quintessential bad boy of his senior class. He was raised on the wrong side of the tracks and is a member of a notorious gang. Covered in tattoos and an aura of mystery, no one dares cross him, and his reputation for drinking, smoking, and fighting causes his classmates to fear him. But Roman is also hiding his true self from the world. His bravado is a mask to hide the fact that he’s just a troubled and confused young man trying to keep his family together.
When Malaika and Roman are paired together for a class project, they both begin to slowly lower the walls they’ve built to protect themselves. And soon, Malaika and Roman realize how much they really have in common and that they can no longer deny their growing feelings for each other.
But when the two teens learn the same person is responsible for the trauma they have both experienced, they promise one another they’ll do whatever it takes to exact their revenge.
The only problem is, Malaika is still engaged to a stranger, thanks to her parents, who put their business before their own child. If she can’t find a way to finally stand up to her parents, Malaika will be damned to repeating the vicious cycle of abuse and lose the one chance she has at happiness with the bad boy she truly loves.

"Save Me" has become one of my all-time favourite to read. I've read it 3 times already and I can't get enough. I wish it had a sequel so I could get a further insight into Malaika and Roman's life after they passed all the hurdles and are finally at peace. But thankfully it doesn't end on a cliffhang. I was so obsessed with this book that I couldn't stop reading it, but while balancing school load I was able to read it all in 3 days. Overall, I loved this book and believe that Awan is a great author. 10/10 recommend reading this book.
This book is about the girl , Malaika Evans, who has a rough life. Luckily she got friends she can count on. Then there’s also Roman Rodriguez - the so called “bad boy”. Roman and Malaika are being paired up for a project, then Roman is helping Malaika with other problems caused by her parents. I think I can say it like that.
To say it short… Good Girl and Bad Boy teaming up to take down a common enemy.
Here’s my thoughts…
First of all, this book was not for me. While I was reading, I got confused. Multiple times. I was also confused about where we were in the book. Are we at school? Home? Outside somewhere? I couldn’t always follow that - I just accepted it in the end😂 Sometimes some of the other characters would appear out of the blue and I’m like “where the hell did you come from?”
I also got confused by the characters. Honestly, I forgot who some of them were 😅
Despite that, I still continued reading because I was curious. I wanted to know what happened. I have to admit that I started to consider to DNF this books because I got confused and didn’t always feel like continuing to read. But I did.
This book is screaming Wattpad. It’s like a Wattpad story taken straight out of Wattpad and then published. It felt like this book haven’t been read through to see if things had to be edited.
Also, the nickname Roman had for Malaika - I think it got used so many times. I felt like there were moments where it would have been better to use her name, Malaika, instead of Munequita. Roman also say something where the word “Mujer” was being used while he was talking with a teacher. That didn’t sit right with me.
To sum everything up: • I read it • I got confused most of the time • Debated on DNF it or not • Wattpad vibes • The use of some words didn’t sit right with me •I was kind of disappointed
