Although I don't really do cover-buys, a pretty cover does make me at least read the summary so I can decide whether or not a book is for me. And this cover was insanely pretty and then the summary promised me the kind of story I really like and enjoy. So, I didn't hesitate and requested the arc the author made available via BookSirens. And yesterday I got started and much to my surprise, I also finished another book yesterday, I already reached the halfway point!

Because this is a really nice and easy read. I understand that the author is French and that this is her first English self-pub book, but it's quite clear this author can write. I really enjoyed how natural the way of thinking of our heroine sounded. I really loved how realistic the dialogues sounded. I loved all the emotions, and the short sentences showing us the emotions more than just telling them, without a doubt the most.

I also really liked the plot and how the story was progressing. It took a little while before our heroine allowed herself to be really sucked into the mystery and became part of the ongoing investigation, but watching her gain enough courage and motivation to rip open all those old wounds was more than interesting enough to keep my attention. And once the investigation reached its conclusion I really enjoyed how Larouche dropped some hints earlier I only understood when the solution was given!

What I also really enjoyed is that in a way this book has a story arc that is really finished at the end of the book, but it also has a bigger arc that has only gotten started. It seems that this book was for our heroine to grow and learn and to deal with some of her old demons and ghosts, but there is more than enough story to tell and more than enough mystery to be solved for future adventures. I'll be looking out for them, because I'm excited to read them!

All I can start is by saying Wowza!! This book was so hard to put down and I had to force myself to put it down a few times so I could sleep and go to work the next day lol. I wasn’t sure what to expect but it definitely wasn’t to be so sucked in right away from page 1 and enjoy the ride the whole way through. I kept trying to figure things out and try to solve who did it but I kept coming up wrong! Was totally thrown for a loop when everything started being revealed and was like way out in left field. I did enjoy the reference to the butterflies , I love butterflies and it made so much sense!

So please sign me up for every book in this series because I seriously need to know what happens! My jaw just dropped last night and I was screaming in my head No!! Don’t leave me hanging!!

I received an advance copy for free and I am volunteering to write this review and my opinions are my own.

An intriguing crime thriller where the FMC, Dee, has untapped psychic abilities and is reluctantly dragged into helping investigate when an ex-friend’s son is kidnapped.

A gripping tale which I really enjoyed. Dee is witty and jaded, her sarcasm sets the tone of the story. I found that the gravity of a missing child wasn’t deep enough at times, such as when Alma (mother), “giggles” during a search. Other than that throwing me a little, it is a fantastic read and I’m very keen to read the second instalment to see where Dee goes from here and perhaps tie up some unanswered questions. (However, it is not a cliffhanger).

I was completely sucked into this unique world and hooked by the suspense and supernatural elements of this story and the mystery.
I loved the characters growth and the writing was so good and to see Dee embrace her powers and over coming her past and trauma it was captivating I already jumped into the next book!

Odessa doesn’t live in the small town where she grew up because she wanted to be something other than “the girl who sister went missing. “ although Canada is a big country she didn’t move so far that her childhood best friend Alma couldn’t go to visit in impeach D for help finding her son Kevin. At first D is hasn’t it and really doesn’t want to do it due to the missing boys that already haunt her but when she agrees and lays down to try and dream of Kevin somethings so jarring happens that the next thing Dee know’s she is on her way back to the farm where she grew up. When she arrives it seems her wild cat Bobo isn’t the only one happy she is there uncle Liam is obviously the happiest man in the country but D isn’t just there for a family reunion in the new worker on her uncles farm raises some questions and after she looks into him it raises even more. Unfortunately she will be too busy avoiding fires the police and maybe just maybe finding more than one missing person. I know like most of my reviews this one isn’t the best I haven’t even mentioned these drinking her insomnia is some really bad decisions she makes but if you read this book you really can’t help but to like her and all her faults and so I don’t get anything away I would just say OMG… Jake… I hope he’s in the next book OMG! This is a great cozy mystery about a girl who has a psychic powers only in her dreams and it isn’t her favorite feature but for those she loves and to get to the truth she will endure it. I cannot wait to read the second book in this serious and I am so glad I already have a download it I think the author did a fabulous job and although I have a two things I didn’t like about the book I think that was more on me then the riding the plot and all the great characters so I left it out of my review. I want to thank the author and book Sirens for the fabulous free Ark please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

Seconds into minutes… Minutes into hours…. Hours into Days….

Odessa "Dee" Baker has spent her entire life running from the dreams that have haunted her, dreams of missing children, children she could not save, including her sister, Paris. So when her childhood best friend shows up on her doorstep, begging Dee to find her missing child Keven, Dee finally agrees to try one more time… But, dreams are cruel mistresses, can Dee decipher the messages and find the missing child, without losing her mind or becoming the prime suspect?

I foolishly decided to read a chapter before going to bed, and for a book based on someone dreaming, my night was filled with anything but sleep. I could NOT put this book down! I loved the interplay between Dee and the mystery. Her dreams were creepy and yet filled with clues, that alluded to a much deeper mystery. Because, for a sleeply, small town in Canada, there seems to be quite a lot of missing children.

Normally, I am not a fan of the reluctant heroine trope. However, Dee's experiences are so steeped in trauma, both emotional and physical that you wanted to shake and hug the sarcastic Dee, often at the same time. You could see how the physical trauma of enduring the emotions of the victims in her dreams affected her in the morning. Plus the author did not shy away from the emotional trauma of losing her sister and not being able to figure out the meanings of dreams that are supposed to help-- leading to dead bodies and unanswered questions.

I especially liked the breadcrumbs of the deeper mystery that the author spread through the book, so that, while some questions were answered you were left wanting more. I WILL be watching for the next in this series.

Odessa or Dee as she is known to her family and former best friend is initially hard to like. She goes out of her way in the first few chapters to make you believe she is not a good person. As I continued reading I began rooting for her and hoping she would find the peace she was hoping for. This was a fast read with some good twists and turns that kept me engaged. What was disappointing was that several of the main characters, Jake, Alma , Uncle Lee had limited depth. I kept hoping for more about their back stories and how they wove into Dee’s story but they fell a bit flat. The story ended short in part because it appears there will be another book. Hoping the next book has a bit more depth and I look forward to Dee's continuing adventures. **Thank you to BookSirens, the author and publisher for an ARC of this book for an honest review. Odessa (Dee) Baker has survived tragedies and lives with trauma, so she's turned her back on her home and her past. But she has strange dreams that still come to her. When a former childhood friend shows up asking for help, Dee reluctantly returns home in hopes that her ability will help find a missing boy.

Thank you to Book Sirens from whom I got a copy of this book. This is my honest, unbiased review. I fell in love with this book from the beginning and really didn't want to put it down. Sleep, however, beckoned so I had to wait the night out. This book was well-written, the story captivating, and I enjoyed it immensely. The genre is a favorite although the storyline is original, and I loved how Dee grew throughout the book. The individual mystery in this book was solved and will definitely keep you guessing. But this book does leave openings for a series and I'm really looking forward to more books. I highly recommend this book.

Resonance by Valerie Larouche

I absolutely loved the story.Being a fan of true crime and thrillers, this book was right up my alley.

The story was captivating and the characters very interesting. I loved that we learn a little more about Dee as the plot progress and not as a long introduction. Jake and Alma were very lovable as well. At first Alma was getting on my nerves but when I started seeing her as a desperate mother, I could only sympathize with her. Jake was a well build side character, with a good backstory and I wish we knew more about him. As for Dee's uncle, he's a sweetheart.

I grew up in a small community and the energy, a mix of solidarity and judgement, was well represented in the book.

The dream aspect of the story is absolutely fascinating and I can't wait to read more about it. This is a series I'll keep a eye out for.

I really enjoyed reading about Odessa's (Dee's) adventures, both in reality and in her dreams. On her quest to find a missing boy, she's facing many past traumas while she gets to grips with her extraodinary physical ability. The story, truly, has three layers to it, maybe even four, because Dee is also dealing with friends and nemeses from her past. I found Resonance very well written, with many unexpected turns of events, and I just wanted to keep on reading. I'm excited to get started on Valerie Larouche's next book in the series.

This book is a bit of a paranormal cosy mystery. Odessa is running away from her past and who she really is. I enjoyed seeing her character slowly evolve and finding out about what made her the way she is. It was a great start to the series as I now want to read the next one! You do get closure on the mystery she worked on but there is a cliffhanger linked to her family history…

I enjoyed this book, although at first I wondered if I would like the heroine. She seemed rather brusque and rude. However, I got to like her and realised she had a kind heart under that kick-ass exterior. It was interesting that she was a psychic through her dreams and despite her best attempts to stay out of it, feels compelled to find a missing boy. It kept me reading to the end.

Resonance is a great book for any fan of psychic fiction. By the second chapter I was caught up in the story and couldn't put it down. Odessa is fascinating and a big personality. Her character is so strong, I almost felt that I was her.
The next book in the series is definitely on my list, can't wait to see what happens next.
Valerie Larouche is a new author for me, and I will be reading more of her work.
