A Lord for All Seasons #2

Midsummer Madness

Rate this book
He wasn’t ruined by past mistakes. He’d just been waiting for Hope. For his salvation.

Hope Templeworth has established herself as the flirt of the notorious Templeworth girls. Having spent her life being told that her beauty is her only true asset, it’s no surprise that she uses it to her advantage on occasion.

Hope wants adventure, and epic romance. Anything but the humdrum life of a small village.

A chance encounter with a tall, dark, and handsome stranger has Hope believing that she might be on the way to getting what she wants. That is until she finds out he’s the new village vicar.

Gideon Bell, Earl of Claremont doesn’t think he’ll find anything to distract him from the mess he’s made of his life. That is of course until he comes across a half-naked woman walking out of a lake. A woman who just so happens to be the most beautiful creature he’s ever seen.

But if the past has taught him anything it’s that the more beautiful a woman is, the more likely she is to cause you trouble.

Yet he can’t seem to keep away from the beautiful Hope. Especially when he realizes that contrary to being after his title, she has mistaken him for his brother, the reverend. Because if there’s one thing Gideon is sure of it’s that he’s about as far from a man of God as one can get.

Hope and Gideon clash again and again in a series of misunderstandings, mishaps and mayhem. But the more time they spend trying to avoid each other, the more they realize that even though it’s madness, there’s something between them that neither is willing to let go of.

And when Gideon’s past catches up to him, both Gideon and Hope will need to decide if the feelings growing between them are worth the madness they can’t seem to escape.

Hey everyone!

I'm Nadine, a writer from County Laois in Ireland.

I’ve been writing historical romance since March 2014 and have no plans to stop!

While my heart belongs to Regency, there are a lot of other genres and ideas fluttering around in my brain so who knows what will happen next?!

When I'm not writing I can be found scurrying around after my three children. Or my dog. Or my cat.

I have a brilliant family and wonderful friends who are ever patient and supportive of me.

I'm sometimes asked where my inspiration comes from. I guess it's from everywhere! I love my gorgeous husband to distraction so that helps! I think I also put a little bit of people I know into my characters...so if you know me and you recognize someone... ;)

Have an ever so mild obsession with Jane Austen and have properly researched time machines in case there's one who could take me back to 1800s. Spoiler alert: there isn’t one. My brain might be odd but it's a pretty fun place to be at times!

My writing really took off when my youngest started preschool. So now, while my children are being taken care of by teachers, my characters are being taken care of by me!

To be fair though, I can quite regularly be found at 2am glued to the laptop when I get an idea!

Midsummer Madness by Nadine Millard is the second book of A Lord for All Seasons. Hope Templeworth has been established as the flirt of the Templeworth sisters. She has always been told that her great beauty is her only asset. Hope dreams of a romance full of adventure. She wants to leave her small village. When she has a chance encounter with a handsome stranger, Hope thinks he may be the one to give her what she wants. But then she discovers he is the village’s new vicar. Gideon Bell, Earl of Claremont life takes an unexpected turn when he comes across a half-naked woman at the lake. He immediately takes note of this woman’s great beauty, but Gideon’s past has warn his off of beautiful women. He finds himself unable to resist her. When a misunderstanding leads to Hope believing he is the vicar and not his brother, he decides to go with it.

I definitely liked the whole misunderstanding about Gideon. It added a fun element to the story, but I kind of wish the misunderstanding lasted a little bit longer. I also liked the parts where we got to see a bit of Gideon’s past and what exactly went down.

Those Templeton sisters are at it again in Halton.
Hope Templeton is considered the most beautiful of her sisters. Yes, she has many admirers, but she wants to be more than her looks. Gideon Bell, the Earl of Claremont, is waiting for his brother Kit to arrive in Halton. Their uncle is retiring as the vicar and Kit is taking his place. Gideon meets Hope at the lake swimming and pretends to be the new vicar. He can tell by the glint in her eyes she is trouble. Gideon's game backfires and he realizes he must apologize. Hope doesn't make it easy. Just as things seem to be going their way, the painful past finds Gideon and Kit in Halton. Gideon may have to give up Hope and the happiness he wants.
The Templeton sisters are very close, unconventional and ignored by their parents. Many times this leads to chaos. They aren't shy about speaking their minds which can be very humorous and unexpected! 😄
Heat level 2🔥🔥

Hope is the second of the four Templeworth sisters to find love & what a fun, entertaining humorous story it was. I loved both Gideon & Hope, he still hasn’t fully recovered from the scandal his family endured, she thinks all anyone sees is her beauty. Their attraction is electric from their first meeting & the heat only increases with each meeting, however it is their verbal bantering, which made this book for me. There are misunderstandings, assumptions which added to a fun, witty romance made this a book I was loathe to put down
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

A wild romp of mischievousness! Hope Temolewporth has always been beautiful and an incorrigible flirt. She has such spunk and vivacity, yet she feels her pretty face is all anyone sees. It is a delight to see Gideon Bell, Lord Claremont fall so utterly besotted p, so quickly. For all his dark past, she is exactly the bright light he needs to heal him. I adored the witty, charged and friendly banter between Hope and Gideon. The fact that he falls just as quickly into the role of protector to her sisters is genuinely endearing. I loved the fact that we still got to see Christian and Elodie, and their blinding love still strong. All of the relationships in this family are so strong and well written, a pure delight. One line sums up the craziness that is the Templeworth family, What fun is midsummer without a little madness in it? The madness that is the Templeworth’s is impossible not to love!

I do so enjoy it when the opening pages of a book grab my attention and keep me entertained to the very end. I thoroughly enjoyed this wildly witty romance with the Templeworth sisters once again making their indelible mark on society. Hope Templeworth is certainly capable of brazening out public comment and censure of her outrageous behavior, but when caught in a less than decorous situation, she has to keep her wits about her in the presence of the Earl of Claremont. Hope, unfortunately, mistakes Gideon for the new Reverend, who is in fact his brother, and Gideon has no compunction about nurturing the deception. That is until it can no longer be kept under wraps, at which point he comes under fire from the Templeworth sisters, who stick together through thick and thin. Gideon is living under a cloud of guilt and shame for past actions, but when his past comes back to visit him, he discovers that he has support and protection from unexpected sources. Through it all, Hope discovers that all it takes is to fall in love with the man who would keep her heart safe, to make her feel truly worthwhile. The novel comes to a delightful and romantic conclusion, although Gideon does experience some trepidation about the future when it comes to Hope's younger sisters. I received a copy of this highly entertaining novel as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

4.5 STARS

I loved book 1 of the series and rated it 5 stars and this one is right behind it. Even though part of a series, it is a stand alone.

My only complaint with this story is the repetitiveness of the h's beauty. I wished I had counted how many times her beauty was mentioned - I started to roll my eyes.

The scene where the H/h meet set the tone of the story. When they meet up the second time, it's funny how the h thinks he is someone he's not. Many funny moments and I enjoyed the banter.

There's something the H can't let go of that involves himself, his brother and father. Only one hiccup in the story that involved someone from the past. I thought for sure I knew where it was heading, and thankfully I was wrong.

We have two more wild sister's to go and I can't wait for their stories. These sisters are not your cookie cutter, follow the Ton rules and I hope the author writes fast because I can't wait for their journey.

Foreplay prior to marriage, heat level 4.5 out of 5. Lovemaking within marriage, heat level 3.5 out of 5. Because I felt a connection to this couple, it was filled with passion and love.

Just a little drama, romantic, HEA, no cheating, no cliffhanger and steam. Lord's name used in vain once. I can't improve on the blurb, just giving you some tidbits to help you decide to read this story and series. (ljb)

Hope Templeworth was warm, really warm would better describe how she was feeling. A dip in the lake seemed like the natural thing to do. Nobody was around and she could really use a cool plunge into the water. Things were going fine until it was time to come out and of course; she was caught. But just who was this man that found her? Goodness, could it be the new village vicar? He was due any day and just who was this man looking at her? Gideon Bell, Earl of Claremont, was hoping to spend a few days with his aunt and uncle unwinding the affairs of his life. But this encounter is just too wonderful to miss. Naturally, he did not tell her who he was or what he was doing by the lake. Just how will this meeting be explained and how will this midsummer incident be justified? What a wonderful plot and interesting storyline Nadine Millard has supplied us to experience. Thank you.

Miss Hope Templeworth has been praised for her beauty all her life,  but nobody ever sees anything else about her. The Templeworth sisters are all known for their hoydenish ways.  They do what they want and fiercely protect each other.

Gideon Bell,  Earl of Claremont has been traveling since a woman caused his family so much trouble.  Now with his brother taking his uncle's place as vicar in a small village, it's time to reunite.

Our outrageous characters make this historical romance a lot of fun. There is a lot of emotion to go with the giggles and sexy scenes.

You might have met the sisters before in the first book in the series,  but you don't need to have read that to enjoy this one.

Great fun.

This is the second book in Ms. Millard's delightful A Lord for All Seasons series. Hope is known as the beautiful and flirtatious one of her sisters. She has many admirers but she wants people to see her for more than her looks. She longs for a romance that is filled with excitement and adventure. When she meets Gideon at the lake, she believes him to be the one who can give her just that. She mistakes him for the new vicar, who in fact is not him but his brother, but he does not make any attempt to correct her. They have a strong and immediate attraction to each other and with each encounter their attraction grows stronger. But Gideon is running from a scandalous past, and it finally catches up with him. Will he let it affect his future with Hope?
This was an entertaining story of mistaken identity that added a unique and fun twist to the romance. The characters were delightful and their witty banter was fun and kept me smiling. A well-written, fun romance that I absolutely loved and could not put down. This is definitely one book and series you don't want to miss. I wholeheartedly recommend!

She felt no man noticed anything about her except her beauty. Why couldn't they see past that to the person she was inside? Although having had several proposals, none of them had even touched her heart.

He was coming to the small town to spend time with his brother who was to be the new vicar. But the first thing he sees is the most beautiful woman coming up out of the lake after a swim. wow.

Such a fun story with mistaken identity, witty banter and an attraction that cannot be denied. But there are secrets and past hurts that have to be dealt with. Another fantastic addition to this series!

This second installment of the Lord of All Seasons series by Nadine Millard is a quick paced delightful romp for the summer season. I was quickly swept up into this low angst, insta love romance and left with a smile on my face. Millard's writing is well paced, charming and the perfect escape for an afternoon. I loved the first book in this series and this is a great follow up as we watch the Templeworth sister's find their perfect romances.

Hope has established herself as a flirt because she has constantly been told that beauty is her best asset. But Hope wants adventure and an epic romance so she will not settle for anything less. Gideon, an Earl, is looking for a distraction from past mistakes, and when he comes across a bathing beauty he is cautious believe a beautiful woman will only cause you trouble. But of course these two find themselves constantly clashing together surrounded my mishaps, mistaken identities and misunderstanding before they finally decide to embrace their attraction.

Hope is such a fun and bold character, I love that she stands up for herself, I love that she knows she is beautiful but also does not rely on that beauty to make her life easier, and I love that she will fight for what she wants. I love that Gideon is so quickly entranced by Hope and that he must learn to move past preconceived ideas of beautiful women and see Hope for the gem that she is. Gideon and Hope both easily fall into a rapport with each other that has a nice sizzle of chemistry. Millard does a lovely job of building the tension between these two as they get to know each other and develop feelings for the other. I love that the conflict in their relationship is from the outside and I love that this conflict does not destroy any trust that these two of begun to build with the other. This is a sweet and lovely romance between two people who are able to see the value in the other. I love that these two both feel like they are on the same ground and footing with the other which leads to the development of a strong foundation for their relationship.

If a fast paced, sweetly romantic historical romance is what you crave this is a charming and fun countryside romance perfect for a summer afternoon! I am looking forward to the continuation in this series as well as continuing to explore Millard's backlist.

Thank you to Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley for an eARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher, via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.

All the residents of Halton know the Templeton sisters, and Hope is the beautiful and flirtatious one. But, she wants people to see her as more than her face, so when she comes upon a stranger as she leaves the lake following a swim - half naked to top it all off - she decides to brazen it out. Coming across the handsome stranger again, and realising he lied about being the new vicar - that was his brother Kit - and he is in fact Gideon Bell, Earl of Claremont, Hope is determined to hate him. But the longer the pair are in company, it's clear the attraction between them is more than either can fight, but their past won't allow them to trust their instincts, and they may be doomed to lose their love.

As soon as Gideon and Hope met, it was clear they were bound for an epic romance. I think I liked this book even more than the first one, as the characters seemed more right for each over. Gideon had had a traumatic experience with the woman who later became his step mother, and was determined to not fall in love, and not marry any time soon. But meeting Hope, here was the only woman who made him feel more than a touch of lust, and he found himself imagining a future, with children and happiness, for the first time. I liked that Hope didn't back down from her ideals, and she wanted to be more than just a pretty face. This was such a fun read, and I'm really looking forward to reading the next book now!

*I received a free ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review*

I will start by saying I read this without having read the first book, but did not find that to be a problem. I will definitely now go back and read the first book because it sounds like the story is highly enjoyable. This book draws you in right from the beginning and keeps your interest throughout. Hope and her sisters are fantastic (I can't wait to see what happens with them in future stories) and their interactions are well balanced between bickering, comic moments, and loving support. One of my favorite things about this book is that the author allows Hope to get angry without immediately making her feel guilty or overly dramatic. Her interaction with Gideon when she finds out about his role in the whole mistaken identity situation was fantastic. Even better than their moments trading barbs are those in which they are falling in love with one another. Gideon's backstory is a rough one (I really hope Kit gets to have his own happy ending at some point) but does serve to show how perfect a match he and Hope are. I will saw the twist involving Elaine's re-entry into Gideon's life was one I did not see coming. I really thought it was going to go another way.

Hope (2nd sister) and Gideon (the Earl of Claremont) get off to a rocky start when they meet in this second book for A lord for all seasons. This book offers witty banter with a dinner scene that really made me lol! Has a lot of the general misunderstandings that many historical romance novels have. Extra drama added when a blast from the past returns to stir things up.

Wrote more about this on my blog:

*some spice (I would consider it lower spice) *dual pov * mistaken identity *enemies/lovers

Witty & bright. This book was all things bright, witty, with a splash of dash. I enjoyed it immensely & cannot wait for Cheska story. Hope brings to light the other side of beauty that we often refuse to see, that it is not always a gift but a curse. Truly enjoyed the writing & storyline in both Elodie & Hope’s tales!

very simple plot

A little more of a plot which added a bit of intrigue but still a lot of unnecessary inti encounters which added nothing to the book and I had to keep flipping through

Turns out if you set aside the absolute ridiculousness of this representation of the regency era, and can close your eyes for some of the steamier bits, the plot is actually pretty funny.
