How far would you go to keep your secrets hidden in the shadows?
Few people know Addison McGuire is haunted by her past. When she’s penning her bestselling true crime series, Addie writes about bold heroines without fear. But in real life, Addie is bound by the trauma she experienced the night of her high school graduation. Now, Addie spends her days with her constant companion, her mastiff, Bo, and lives vicariously through her brother Jack. It’s no way to live, but Addie’s accepted it.
Except lately, little things in her life have begun to slip. She’s drinking too much, and her nightmares have resurfaced. Nightmares that steal her sleep at night—and rob her of her peace during the day. Spinning in old habits, Addie reaches out to Jack, but her calls, texts and emails go unanswered.
Because Jack has been in a terrible accident … and will never be there for Addie again.
Reeling with loss, Addie returns home for the first time in a decade to bury her brother— only to realize, the short visit home she’s planned, isn’t an option. Because Jack’s daughter, her four-year-old niece, Lou, needs her.
Lou helps Addie find strength she didn’t know she had. Good thing, as Addie soon finds herself face to face with her attacker—now the chief of police—who warns her to: “Go home.”
Addie refuses, but her grip on reality wavers as she becomes increasingly untrusting of herself, unable to gauge what is real and what is not. Are her nightmares signs that someone is watching her and waiting in the shadows—or figments of her imagination? The only way Addie can find out is to break her silence … and face her attacker once and for all.

Atmospheric An Edge of your seat thriller Fast paced read
SHADOW’S EDGE by Lizbeth James was such an enjoyable read that kept me up way too late. From the first scene, I knew I was hooked to Addie’s story, and I was quickly sucked in to her fears - the sounds, sights, and surroundings that paralyzed her. Addie is a true crime writer with a horrific past that left her with a crippling fear comforted only by her brother Jack and Bo, a mastiff by her side. When her brother dies leaving a four year old niece she is forced to go back to her hometown and confront what had happened ten years ago.
The writing really immersed me as a reader - taking me through crippling fear, emotional sadness, bouts of anger, and then finally gathering strength for that amazing conclusion. I loved the storyline and how revealing the back story happened was brilliant.
Pick this book up now if you enjoy a tense thriller read with a strong woman ready to face her fears after a horrific past, this one is for you!
This one starts with a chilling scene. Addie McGuire is checking the locks, seeing shadows, and hears pounding on her doors, all while thinking 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺’𝘳𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘐𝘯.
I wanted to know who was after Addie, or was she having hallucinations, maybe flashbacks?
She feels most comfortable with her loveable but huge dog Bo and her brother Jack. Jack is the only one who understands; he knows the truth.
Then Addie receives a phone call from her sister-in-law; Jack has been in a terrible accident; Jack didn’t survive.
Addie never wanted to return home, but she must bury her brother. There are too many horrible memories of that night, the night of her high school graduation, and 𝐻𝐸 is still here.
As I read Shadow’s Edge, I was constantly on edge for Addie. I knew something horrible had happened to Addie, but the details were not revealed until late in the book. Clearly, she lived in fear, and someone was still a threat to her. Sometimes the narrative got a little confusing, but I was invested in finding out the answers. Although Addie had a terrible relationship with her father, I loved Addie’s relationship with her bright young niece, Lou.
𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘺, 𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘦, 𝘺𝘦𝘵 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘶𝘭! This is a survivor’s story, a take back your power and don’t live in fear story!

The opening chapters of this novel pull you right in, and you feel that heart pounding fear right along with the character. Addie has a traumatic past that she is still fearing, and yet she is penning a true crime series- who best to author something like that, than someone who has been a target in the past. Jack, her beloved brother and rock, the one that keeps her grounded and in touch with things has suddenly died in a horrible car accident and Addie must return back home to bury him. The one thing he always warned her of, to stay safe is to never go back home. Now she has no choice and her nightmare, the one that created all her fear is the one who holds a very powerful position. Fighting her want to leave that town asap, and the needs of her niece she quickly begins to spiral out of control in trying to determine what is real, what is fear and if that nightmare will happen again or if she can finally face it all head on to move on with becoming herself again. This was a good, twisted psychological. Thank you to the author for the free autographed novel and to Suzy Approved Tours for the invite- I've found another new psychological author!
Dark and chilling yet rewarding in the end. Addie suffers from nightmares as a result of something that happened the night of her high school graduation. She's also the author of a successful true crime series, and as they say, you write about the things you know. Her brother Jack has been her best friend and as the only person she's told about that night, her secret keeper. Jack's married and has a four year old daughter, Lou. At Jack's suggestion, she's never been back home in the ten years since she left there. Then the unimaginable happens and Addie is called back home to bury her beloved brother Jack. In her grief she promises him that she'll help take care of Lou just as he took care of her. With her trusted companion Bo by her side she ventures back to the place it all began.
This is a wonderfully written debut that kept me glued to its pages from beginning to end. The suspense throughout was intensified by knowing something terrible has happened to Addie but not finding out just what it was until near the end. There was a twist I saw a mile away but the climax had a surprise I didn't see coming. Addie's character is well developed and one you want to root for, but with Jack gone will she be able to move on and find love?...

This book immediately hooked me as Addie is in such fear “they’re coming in”. Her paranoia is palpable throughout the book and it isn’t until later we find out what really happened to her. ⠀ With her brother now dead, she must go back to the place she never thought she would see again, home. She discovers she has a niece and decides to stay and confront her fears once and for all! ⠀ 𝘈 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘷𝘰𝘳’𝘴 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦!! The night of her high-school graduation haunts Addie even after all these years. She sits in seclusion with her dog writing her true crime series that is full of heroines that are fearless. Everything she isn't. Addie suffers from the trauma that forced her to leave home so long ago. Her brother Jack is the only one who knows her secret. He's her person and the only one she can rely on. Addie is drinking too much, forgetting things, except her memories of sex with nameless men. Her past starts creeping into her thoughts. Night and day and she can't escape it. When her brother Jack dies Addie must return home. And finds herself face to face with her nightmares. This was one heck of a ride!. A dark chiller with suspense that builds and builds leaving you guessing. A nail biter. You'll read it in one sitting. Excellent read!

❓QOTD: What was the last book that left you on edge❓
Woo! This was a stressful, suspenseful, thriller of a book! I would absolutely recommend it!
This one has a creepy beginning that really gets you settled into the story, but there's just SO MUCH we don't know! As the story progresses, we get little tidbits to help shape what's happening, and it's done so well. This one was full of suspense, action, chilling moments, and great storytelling!
I was provided a gifted copy of this book for free. I am leaving my review voluntarily.
This story kept me at the edge of my seat from start to finish and guessing everything and everyone the whole time. I loved the small town setting, the characters, the bit of romance on it and of course the adorable dog.

What a twisty chilling thriller! A best selling writer of true crime novels is living through her own nightmares and trying to come to terms with her past. This one was definitely a page turner! The short chapters made it a quick read and I devoured it.
I liked the mystery and unknown about Addie’s past life. There are a lot of hints about what had happened in the past, but it was never revealed until late in the story. Things kept happening around the house that keep me just on edge as Addie was. She was so brave as she fought through her fears to stay strong for her niece. At times the switch between what was a dream and real got a little confusing but it didn’t happen too often. I enjoyed the slow burn mystery with the suspenseful moments woven in. It’s a survivors story and the authors note is an important one.
Thank you @lizbethjames_author and @suzyapprovedbooktours for the gifted copy!
This is a debut novel about, overcoming trauma, battling personal demons, finding your place in life, and discovering love. I always enjoy seeing the strength of family bonds and the redemptive power of a child's love in stories. There are darker elements present, but they're balanced by positive relationships and the desire to heal and live free of the past.
I received a gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.
