Very good read. Some enemies-to-lovers romance set in the sports world. Very entertaining book which had me hooked from the very beginning. Some angst but not to much. Loved the MCs and second characters.
Can't Fight Love was one of those books that I couldn't put down. It had me right from the start, and that had a lot to do with the insane chemestry between Kara and Alexa.
The story is set in the world of MMA fighting - mixed martial arts (knowing what it stands for is as far as my knowledge goes on that subject) - and focuses on the undefeated Alexa's last fight before she retires. She is more then ready to shed her tough girl persona, and after meeting Kara, she is more determined then ever to start that new chapter in her life. These two don't exactly hit it off, but the attraction between the two can't be denied, or hidden.
Kara, a documentary film maker is thrust into Alexa's world and finds herself wanting nothing more than to protect this fighter who goes out of her way to project arrogance. Getting tangled in the push and pull of the chaos surrounding Alexa, Kara refuses to back down and stands strong beside the woman who has captured her heart.
KC Luck has written a heart-warming, fast-paced story you will want to sit and devour.
I love martial art and mma so was excited to come across this book. While this showed the glamour and some fights of what encompasses the nature of of an mma fighter, i wouldn't say it portrayed the fight as much as i was hoping.
Anyways we have here an MMA champion fighter on the brink of retirement, finding an attractive love interests, dealing with family challenges and finding out a disastrous outcome about a friend.
plot was weak and inconsistent, pacing was weird in terms of their relationship and the book, i felt that there was no basis to their relationship and there was too much going on, not a single plot was coherent or well incorporated into the book, i still relatively enjoyed it but definitely won’t re visit this author :/
I always love WLW sports romance and this book is just as good as I expected! The MMA fighting champion and the talented budding documentary film maker shared the incredible chemistry and despite a bad first impression, they fell hard and fast in love with each other. I am happy that it is not a SLOW BURN, and I enjoy the steamy, hot and heavy sexy scenes as much as those tender loving moments. The two fights to depend the championship are vivid and exciting and makes me anxious to find out the results. Even the supporting casts are impressive and interesting.
I have no knowledge of MMA fighting nor was I ever interested in it but I love sporty sapphic romances and I'm glad I gave this a shot. Alexa is such a well written character and I loved her layers as a MMA persona vs the softer, private sides. Kara meets her in an unusual way and I've loved their chemistry and undeniable attraction which they so hard try to fight and deny. When they finally get together it's really sweet and very hot and you just know they're meant to be which makes the "conflict-parts" of the book bearable. There's a little unexpected turn near the end with a character whose intentions I didn't really get but also didn't much care for so I simply enjoyed the HEA.
Alexa is the MMA champion bantom weight. ESPN wants to do a docudrama about her before her last championship match. Kara is a documentary filmmaker who gets a job as a PA for ESPN'S docudrama. Before that, Kara is walking across the street when she's almost hit by a Camaro driven by Alexa. Kara doesn't have a clue who she is and has words with her, then slaps Alexa's car and walks away. Until she goes to work. I had fun reading this book, and learned about MMA fighting. I love the two MCs! I highly recommend this book! 5 stars!
I did not get to enjoy this nearly as much as I had hoped. Where did the issue come in? Let's start with the complete lack of chemistry between Kara and Alexa. Sorry, just wasn't feeling it. I liked Alexa as a character (she was the only one), but when it came to Kara, there was nothing there. No obvious attraction, I could see no reason she fell for her, and this insistence that Kara made her better...how?? When?? I didn't see that at all.
I almost wonder why Jess existed as a character. Manager, yes, but she could have been completely silent through the whole story, and little would've changed. And the gambling thing, it was like the author was trying to find a reason for Jess to exist. But neither that nor her doomed little crush on Alexa seemed to fit.
But I think I might take the most issue with Rachel Rhodes. Am I just crazy, or does her name sound a lot like Rhonda Rousey?? Not pointing fingers, just saying. And maybe that was an accident, but I find that possibility highly unlikely. I mean, women's MMA, an undefeated champ, and one of them has THOSE initials?? Either Luck was being unoriginal, or she didn't do any research into MMA, which I very highly doubt, based on the rest of the book. Maybe it was intentional, kind of tongue-in-cheek...but it rubbed me the wrong way.
Not a fan of the lack of subtlety in the writing. It makes everything from the plot to the characters very flat and one-dimensional, and predictably obvious. I prefer more a more organic and natural narration. The romance department was also quite mediocre and couldn’t hold my interest in the slightest with its development and execution.
Wow I couldn't put it down definitely a best seller,I loved the main characters their chemistry was shining through their struggles were exceptionally written one of my favourites by KC Luck I loved the twists the raw emotions everything was perfect couldn't put it down congratulations
The story/plot was pretty good. The pacing felt a little odd, but it wasn't necessarily a bad thing. I think what felt challenging to me as a reader was believing the chemistry between the two main characters in the first half of the book. The circumstances are all there for it to develop, but then it gets totally glossed over until their feelings and perceptions of around each other are mentioned in hindsight. I had to keep being like, "okay, all this plot progression is happening, cool...wait... they're saying they developed feelings during all that?" Like, I should have known what they were thinking and feeling as stuff happened, not just after the fact. Also, POV switched back and forth really frequently. It was in an organized manner, but it happened a lot within each chapter, sometimes every few paragraphs. I thought that was an interesting choice. I found it confusing at a few points but mostly I wasn't sure how to feel about it. But character development was decent, story was engaging, and the ending was satisfying.
Can't Fight Love by K.C. Luck is an enemies-to-lovers romance that will capture your heart. The story follows two characters, one a professional athlete and the other a filmmaker, navigating through a complicated relationship of love and hate. As they come to terms with their feelings for each other, they must also face the challenges of family dynamics, career aspirations, and the power of falling in love.
The novel is full of intense emotions and gripping moments that keep you hooked until the end. The characters are well-written, and their interactions are believable and relatable. The story moves steadily and keeps you engaged throughout its entirety.
Overall, Can't Fight Love is an enjoyable read that will make you laugh, cry, and root for these two characters as they battle it out for their happily ever after. If you're looking for a romantic read with plenty of drama and emotion, this book is definitely worth checking out!
It’s not a bad read and maybe if I wasn’t an MMA fan I would have enjoyed it more but I felt like the author could have done a bit more research if the MC is supposedly a UFC champ. For starters, it’s not called a ring in MMA - it’s either a cage or octagon. I mean the author went as far as describing it as an octagon shaped ring *face palm*. Secondly drinking whilst in camp? Third, what about a coach? A coach is as interval as any fighter. I get this isn’t a book about MMA but about about an MMA. But a tad more research and this would have been more realistic and really cement the story. If you’re not an MMA fan or don’t know anything about the sport then go ahead and read it, I can see it might be enjoyable. But as a fan of the sport, I couldn’t swallow this.
This book read like a docuseries and I really enjoyed it!
I was little worried that this was going to be another romance book but was pleasantly surprised.
We got more of an inside look in to the world of being a Champion MMA Fighter with Alexa, as well as how much work documentaries are to make with Kara.
The writing was incredible and immersive. I felt like I was at the weigh ins and the fights.
The character development was also great, I really cared about what was happening to all of the amazing characters, not just Kara and Alexa.
If I had one downside it was the back and forth in their relationship felt a little forced without any real explanation as to why they were behaving the way they were.
But all and all a good read with great characters.
Solid, loved the story, loved the story told. Didn't feel sorry for Jess at the end. It was a bit of a slow-burn, but also was a fast-paced slow-burn story. It mainly looking to focus on the relationship and the crazy that was their lives together, but they didn't mind it and once things were cooled down, they realized just how quiet things could get.
P.S. It would be kinda cool to see how if Luck wanted to push for a Rachel spinoff standalone story, where the Big Bad of this story Rachel, comes into her own and finds her own romance while taking time away from the spotlight. However, I've met some irredeemable people just like her, so maybe not.
Can't Fight Love by KC Luck is a fast-paced enemies-to-lovers contemporary romance with two solid main characters who have reasons to feel animosity towards one another at the beginning. The opening scene where the two "meet" for the first time is the absolute best part of this book. The different dramatic elements in this book overshadowed the romance between Kara and Alexa and at times it was difficult to see how they would even make things work. The dialogue is natural and the descriptions of the training and fight scenes are detailed enough to keep readers interested. OVerall it's a decent read.
This book is well-written, with likable, engaging characters and an interesting story line. However, it's marred by mediocre editing, including punctuation errors and awkward sentence structure, with introductory clauses that don't connect properly with the subject of the main sentence. Also, I found the MMA fight scenes to be so brutal as to be repugnant. Now I know why I don't have any interest in this "sport".
Still, I enjoyed the romanc as well as the supporting story lines involving the ill brother and the friend with the destructive addiction. Good stuff.
Firstly, I feel bad for the 2 stars but I found myself a little bored with this one. Overall, the idea had a potentially solid plot with two likeable leads, but the romance moves way too fast. After just a couple of brief meetings, Alexa and Kara act like they’ve been together for years and can’t live without each other. The emotional build-up is rushed, and the writing doesn’t give the angst enough time to breathe. With a slower burn and more tension, the story could’ve hit harder. No pun intended. The side story with Alexa’s manager felt a bit rushed, there was a bit of a build up to it dropping but it was all a bit surface level.
I'm a huge fan of stories by KC Luck and this one is certainly no exception! I don't follow MMA at all, but since KC wrote it I was intrigued. The story is interesting, the character developments are great, & the chemistry is off the charts. You'll fall in love with all the struggles Alexa, Kara, and the other characters go through, professionally & personally and then get to experience the happy ending that follows. Start reading & see for yourself - you won't regret it!
I liked this book even though I hate any kind of professional fighting. I used to love to watch Friday Night Fights when I was a kid, but now that I am older all I can see is the damage that is going on to the brain. The cage fighting has never attracted me, but this book gave it whole new dimension. I knew something was up with Jess and I was glad to know what I guessed was going on turned out to be true. That added a little mystery to the story.
First of all...KC Luck dies so much research to make a book sound authentic. I might actually be interested in MMA now! Second, this love story hits all the hot and steamy! Phew, the pages were singed! Lastly, the heart and soul of the story was a twin bond and documentary that would yank on even the most stoic heartstrings!
Loved this book and love this author!! Recommend ×2
I've been on a sports reading kick so I picked this up. The best I can say for it was that it was okay. I have only a passing interest in MMA fighting but even with that I could tell the book needed more research. There was a lot of telling and not enough showing- and a lot of internal commentaries that took away from characters moments. Also the entire epilogue was unneeded as it was mostly a repeat of sentiments from the last chapter.
Are you looking for a face paced and hot love/hate story? if so this is it!
KC Luck has penned a tight and intriguing story in the MMA world. To say I am not a fan of MMA is an understatement but this story had me from the first pages and held on tight right to the last word. The characters were real, melded beautifully with the storyline and drew me in further. The settings were as expected in the fighting world, LA, and Vegas. Honestly this is a great story.
I have never watched anything related to MMA but I really enjoyed this book and while boxing etc is not may thing the dedication to be at the top of a sport is amazing. This gives you an insight in what the focus is like to the extend it affects your romantic relationships until ‘the one' gets under your skin and you need to deal with mixing the two. and in the fact that your 'love interest' is feisty and independent, rumours of cheating and gambling and you have one very interesting storyline.
I so enjoyed reading this story. I was not sure if I would enjoy reading about a fighter and fighting but as I hoped, there was far more to this book than that. Alexa is the fighter but Kara is just as strong a person with just as much courage which made them a good match. There was so much going on in this book, not just the drama between the main characters. The friends had thier own struggles which gave the book depth and kept it very real as that is how things go in life.
Alexa and Kara butted heads the first time they met...and the second...and again after that. However, there is something between them that neither of them can shake.
In this sports romance, there's a lot more going on around these two than just their rivalry. As they give in to their attraction, they have to decide if they should fight the fire together or leave things as they lay so they don't get worse. Lots of crazy drama in this one...good crazy!
The title says it all. You Can't Fight Love no matter what the obstacle is love will always win. Alexa and Kara met in an unusual way but what follows is a twist and turning love story. From the arrogant obnoxious challenger to the shady manager and her twin Alexa takes it all on and comes out a champ. As usual KC never disappoints.
Picked it up for the plot, but couldn't at all read it through all the lack of proofreading/incoherent bits of it. The mc's sadly lacked in depth, so did the writing, and if those particular character types have easy chemistry, it was in my opinion, lacking in actual description of feelings and correct pace.
I enjoyed reading this book as it covered a sport I’m unfamiliar with. The twists and turns of the story were exceptionally well laid out. The characters were very well presented and of course the MCs had a HEA. The several typos did not allow me to give 5 stars which this book deserved. Another good read from KC.
As someone who grew up in the martial arts realm and had to quit training due to injuries, this novel hit me in my heart and gut. The relationship between Kara and Alexa is real and beautiful. The plot twists were expected and unexpected. But the ending made it all worth it.
