Warning: Do not read at night, or you'll get hungry😂🤤

I absolutely love this webtoon😭The story brings so much joy, sadness, and life lessons (also hungriness 🤣). It highlights how foods can affect someone's life deeply. And I appreciate that it's not only about eating and cooking, but also embracing your lost and the importance of having good relationship. I love how all the chefs that separated in hatred, guilt and regret manage to get together again, resolve their feelings because of a single person that connects them all, Lucy Fuji.

I love this Webtoon so much! I’ve read it 3-4 times and I never get bored of it! It gives me such a cozy warm feeling and the relationships Lucy has with people is so real and never feels forced like it can in some works.

I sincerely recommend this Webtoon for people who like food, slow burn romance, found family, and great character development as the story progresses!

I don’t really write reviews unless I’m p*ssed off and ranting about a character I hated but I tried lol

My Rating: 5 Stars.

I’ve lost track on how many times I have re read this comic but the freshest feeling that came to me this time whilst reading was “what if the experience of reading this will be ruined because I remember the ending, even after a year and a half since the last time I read it?”

I could not be more wrong. This comic is timeless and easily one of the best pieces of media I have ever had the pleasure of consuming. I’m so grateful that this exists.

This made me laugh and weep. What a warm and loving exploration of food, love, grief, and home!

I stayed up WAY past my bedtime to finish this, it was absurdly compelling. There was even a mini-villain arc!!

I never thought a comic that centred around food will make me emotional and happy. But Gourmet Hound proved me wrong.
GH will be my favourite forever. ❤

¨I´ve always thought that the dinner table should be a happy place, wheter you´re at the most expensive restaurant in the world, or at hme with just one other person. Lucy, I hope you live a life full of wonderful meals.¨

¨I know how scary it is when you´re about to lose something important; how far you´ll go when you feel like no one will help you save it. In a perfect world, the things you love would never feel like a burden to you... but in the real world, of course they do.

Taking responsability for things is hard, even when you love it¨

¨It isn´t greedy to do everything in your power to achieve your dreams. And it isn´t selfish to want something so badly that is painful.¨

¨Lucy´s bright demeanor might distract you but spending months chasing after one nameless chef, involving herself in conflicts she could easily avoid just to get more information. Prolonged research even while holding two jobs... that doesn´t sound ¨quirky¨ to me. It sounds manic, or at the very least terribly desperate¨

¨From afar, I could see you making these difficult decisions, Lucy. They were heartbreaking decisions... and they were the right ones. Selling your grandmother´s cooking school, leaving the apartment your grandmother raised you in, giving up graduate school, letting go of the expenses you could not afford on your own... you forced yourself to make the choices that would keep you afloat now that Lynn was gone.¨

"The notebook, Gramps, and chef Barlett, all smell like Dimanche... and this note smells like her. No wonder I couldn't just taste it, I could feel it too.
The taste I've been searching for, of course a big part of it was them. But it was never just them. It was her too. The taste of Dimanche's chef cooking, my grandmother's recipe notes, that together is what made Dimanche taste like home.
Like eating one more meal with my grandmother in her favorite restaurante in the world. Even after she was gone".

"I've sometimes thought that people are like cups. They all have different capacities. Old or new, intact, repaired, or broken. And though it changes from cup to cup, each can hold only a certain amount.
All day we fill up, poured in slowly or quickly, filling up, filling up... and when the cup is just brimming... it often takes only one small thing to overwhelm us completely".

¨Whatever choice you end up making, your world won´t get small again. Choose what´s best for you, we´ll be right here¨

¨No matter how hard we try, there isn´t a way to go tgrough life without hurting people. We can just try to minimize that harm, and make up for it

I told you, I´m not going anywhere. If you need help, you don´t have to do it alone¨

¨And you know how I feel. How the world will never feel quite as safe and certain as it used to, ever again. How you want, and want, and want to the point where you feel selfish, and greedy... but all you want is what everyone else already seems to get, without even asking: parents, and siblings, aunts and uncles and cousins... grandparents... and no matter how unfair, we don´t get to have that too.

(...)

After a while, I started to give away little pieces again, and they held it a little differently... I finally felt like I´d reached a place where life felt ¨everyday¨ again.

(...)

New relationships can´t replace your family, or make it feel like you didn´t lose them. But that´s not the point. These relationships aren´t for replacing anything, The point is that they´re irreplaceable as well, right?¨

this whole webtoon was excellent as a whole but as the years have passed, it’s made me appreciate so much more authors giving all characters a proper ending and not forgetting people or leaving pieces of the plot forever unfinished

This was a heartwarming, slowburn.

Lucy lives with her chef grandmom. They dined in Dimanche regularly. The chefs there were friends with the grandmom. When the grandmom passed, things changed and they all had to pick themselves up. Then they all went their separate ways. No one stayed in Dimanche. It was later sold. At 26, Lucy finds herself looking for the Dimanche she experienced when she was 19. She was able to meet most of the old Dimanche chefs--help them find closure while she was en route hers.

This was an easy read. You get a lot of themes: slice of life, mystery, family, psychology, romance, friendship, food. Especially food.

When it's realistic, it kind of feels difficult for me, a serial emotion-bottler, to fully understand their motives. Like, how could one person so integral to the establishment of something believe that one's presence could be easily replaced or forgotten?

This shows the profound mysteries of grief in a person. The ripple effect just goes to show how an influential (not necessarily rich) person's absence affects those around the person.

There were a lot of angry people, but most exumed humility. They know who they are and they're comfortable living in their lives. For Lucy, the latter is one she was aiming for.

I want that for myself someday.

this started slow, so i only read a few chapters each day. i found a manga that i want to read right away so i forced myself to read more of this and move on to my next read. but later on, i kept on reading and reading not because i want to get it done with, but because i was genuinely enjoying myself. besides the cute food facts, the refreshing and diverse set of characters, and the big question that was raised from the start regarding dimanche and bartlett, the dialogue was what truly immersed me, it was so beautifully crafted. i’ve had my fair share of webtoons and so far i think this is one of those that truly touched me. lucy relying on herself because she was afraid to rely on people again and be left alone, colby wanting his uncle to be seen not because he was needed but because he was loved, and that happiness is found in the mundanity of our everyday lives — it makes me appreciate more the people i have in my life. and it makes me look forward to the rest of it knowing that there’s so many foods i have yet to try. i looooved the development of the characters and their relationships. when lucy and graham finally got together? GOD i want to find love, preferably in someone who can cook as well as graham.

this webtoon feels like a wonderful warm meal.

Reading journal/review #2! This is Gourmet Hound, a Webtoon by @leeehama 🍳

Here's the review I wrote in my journal: "I don't usually like shoujo-type comics, but this one is a fantastic exception! I fell in love with the characters right away, especially Lucy Fuji, because she reminds me so much of Tohru Honda from Fruits Basket. There are plenty of emotional moments, but there are also plenty of hilarious moments, so the comic feels well-balanced. All of the characters are really well-developed too. And the art style is super cute! I love how so much of this comic is centered around food. The themes of overcoming grief and old wounds are wonderfully and delicately written. Definitely a new favorite!" I should also add that while the emotional side feels like Fruits Basket, the hilarious side feels very Ouran High School Host Club. 😆

What's your favorite food-themed story!

One of the top webtoons on the app really, I really love how this short (comparatively) webtoon leaves such an impact. The storytelling and the pacing was just perfect, the last few eps were basically crying sessions for me. Rarely in the search for entertainment do we find stories that feel so personal and give you something to keep from it. Leehama is a truly great storyteller and artist.

Even if the story had any flaws I don't think I would ever see it as it is something now very close to my heart<3

I'm not very fond of reading these types of books, mostly because I don't normally like the anime look it has. However, I fell in love with the art of this. It's drawn so beautifully. If you're newer to reading Webtoon, I would highly recommend this. Moreover, I just loved all the diversity! I had yet to come across a webtoon with a hijabi. And here it was! This webtoon also included LGBTQ+ characters and different races.

Now to the actual storyline. I love the main character Lucy! She's just so funny! The fact that she'll chop so many onions, just to hide the fact she was crying!

this is the kind of webtoon that makes me want to go back to every other webtoon i reviewed and knock off a star. this is literally the perfect comic there is not a single thing i would change about it. what a beautiful story about grief and love and family and, above all, food. food, food, food. i'm such a sucker for character driven plots and this. was. perfect. everything was perfect. have i mentioned how perfect everything was? i loved lucy and everyone she encountered so much and it was so rewarding at the end of the story for her to look back and see how many people she had supporting her and everything she'd overcome. this is a mess because i can't convey how perfect this story was.

This year I re-read this webtoon for the fifth time on my life. As always, I cried and experienced more emotions than the time before. It's an amazing work of art, and I cannot wait to find myself reading it again next year

Loved this series! It had a lot of life lessons in it and I loved all the characters that appeared in. I liked how the author named all the characters after food. It’s such a cute idea. I also liked the representation in the book. The author even included recipes such as pandesal. I went crazy when I saw it, since it was such a surprise to see :) Ygis was a good slice of life story.

4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this webcomic (read it on your phone versus computer). I appreciated the friendships and people just trying to do their best. Of course the art was gorgeous so it was always a treat to read. The ending was satisfactory and the overall message of friendship, growth, and love was poignant and touching.

During quarantine, this story saved me and provided a much-needed break from routine. Its attention on the complex relationships and dynamics between all the characters actually sets it apart, even though the romance may seem to some readers to move along too quickly. Speaking of characters. I genuinely value the diversity of the characters, which is a breath of fresh air in webcomics.

This is my favorite webcomic of all time. It has been since the first time I read it, I'm tragically sad there's not a print version and that the author isn't really creating anymore. Gourmet Hound is so beautifully illustrated, exactly the right length, and a moving depiction of Lucy's journey through grief and rediscovering joy and love in her life. Lucy and Graham are so important to me and I especially love that every single side character gets their moments and you learn so much about the world we're in. Every thread is connected, every meal looks delicious, and I've read it probably five or six times over at this point. Lucy's goal to find the taste she's lost at Dimanche leads her to instead find and reunite a community that's been shattered and fill her life with light again after the loss of her grandmother. It still pulls inside my chest even after reading it so many times, and I hope that I can enjoy food with as much care as Lucy one day.

One of the most beautiful webtoon comics I have ever read. Absolutely loved the main stoory arc, the subplots, and every single character is lovable to the core. If this ever comes out as a book, I will definitely buy (and I am saying this to you, Leehama).
