Cassie Fayewood hates her life.
Her father is always away working, and her mother is constantly nagging her to be better. Spending time with her younger brother, Dillen, and her constant college studies are all that keep her distracted. She wants nothing more than to get away and live her life somewhere else, be someone else, until something changes.

Such a wonderful story! Have definitely never read one like it before! It really keeps you guessing all the way to the end! Absolutely loved reading this adventure.

This is a wonderful YA novel. I’m new to the fantasy genre and really enjoyed this book. I was invested in the characters and their outcome. I liked how the relationship with Cassie, Dillen and their parents changed as the story went on. I liked Gabe’s character the best and would like to hear more about his journey and his relationship with Leon. I did get confused a few times on if a character was really experiencing something or whether it was a dream/imagination. But overall I really enjoyed the book and like that that author can expand separately on the different characters and their backstories.

The Good Points:
This book definitely brings a lot of good things to the literature world for young audiences:
🌟 It was very refreshing to see an entire family be affected by supernatural happenings, as with many YA books the parents and siblings are usually shunned from the story while the protagonist runs off with the love interest to learn more and fight battles. In this book, everyone played a role.
🌟 In particular, the relationship with Cassie and her brother Dillen was really great to see. He was a very well developed character and wasn't sidelined by the potential love interest at all. He got a whole chapter to himself which was even cooler to read about.
🌟 The world building was really good-- it was very easy to picture the small, cottage-like town and its winter chill.
🌟 Though many parts of the plot were obvious (and most likely will be for avid readers), other parts of the plot were completely unguessable. And these plot points were really good.
The symbolism in the foreshadowing was also really cool to see, even if it made some plot points more obvious.
Things That Could Have Been Improved:
🌟 There was a lot of repetition and slow pacing which could have been shortened and tightened. In many instances repeat statements were made, which the reader really didn't need to see more than once, and it slowed the plot down. The book seemed very slow at the start.
🌟 Primarily, the plotline follows the POV of Cassie, but has a tendency to jump into other character's heads every now and then for a split moment. The way this was done could have been executed better as it offputting and confusing at times-- how can the protagonist know exactly what another person is thinking? It's a little jarring to switch perspectives so randomly, and it would have been easier to follow if we stayed in Cassie's POV and she had been guessing or assuming what the other character thought based on behaviour or knowledge of that person's personality. (This isn't including separate chapters with distinguished POVs-- those were great!)
🌟 Although a lot of action and events happen throughout the book, there seems to be an equal amount of moments that really prevent the plot from advancing. Due to the character's powers developing, they were almost always needed to be 'resting' throughout the novel, which got a bit tiring to read about after a while. No-one was giving them answers, just telling them to 'rest' despite the monsters constantly coming after them. This added to the slow pacing of the book which could have been tightened.
Overall, the book is a really interesting read and it's recommended because, despite the flaws, the good points of the book outweigh the flaws.
Recommended For:
Teenagers and young adults both will enjoy this book. It has themes that both age groups can enjoy, but it's definitely borderline due to the settings and maturity of the characters. Audiences below 15 may have a hard time relating to the characters unless they have an older sibling or friend in college who they are influenced by, but the romance aspects and plot aspects will definitely capture their attention.

Oh boy.
I had an idea of what I was getting into with this story with the kick start to the heart the Prologue gives, along with the introduction of two of the main players in Cassie and Kale. But, I was in no way, shape or form ready for the ride I was taken on.
One of the biggest draws for me to this story was the angelic angle. It's been so incredibly long since I have been able to sit down and read a paranormal/fantasy/supernatural novel which stars angels, and inevitably demons and devils, as well. Another hook to this story was how they weren't invincible. They had faults and things about them that much like humans, makes them who they are. It added an element of connection that with novels of this type, I often don't find myself having.
The family and how involved all of them were in the story. How it wasn't a chosen one concept, but a family affair all across the board (even with all of the surprises that threw me for a loop later in the story), was a nice change. Also the relationship between brother and sister, their closeness beyond just being "family" was phenomenally written and bonded me even more to them.
Throughout this story I found it impossible to guess where things would go, which I will give an immense amount of credit to the author for, because sometimes its not easy to keep the action going, to keep the ending hidden until you're ready to reveal it, but it was done here and very well. I haven't had a book in a long time that's kept me guessing all the way throughout, so for that alone, this story wins.
I will admit that in the beginning of this novel, after the rush of the Prologue, the pacing took quite a bit of a hit, which I do believe had a lot to do with amount of detail, especially as the story gained its footing. It was a little rough to get through, but once past, it took off and there was no looking back. At no stage did I feel it was such a problem I couldn't finish the story, though. If anything, given the genre of story this is, a lot of detail is what makes it work.
Overall, this is a story I am beyond thrilled to have taken the time to read and try, especially since the author before this was unknown to me. I'm also excited with the knowledge that sometime in the future, there will be more with these characters. I'm looking forward to seeing what awaits them next.
With that being said, this story doesn't end in a cliffhanger but it does seem to have an open ended feel to it. Like, you just know there's more for Cassie, more for Kale, and the entire gang on the horizon.
My thanks to the author for reaching out, speaking with me and giving me the chance to read her wonderful story. I'm so thankful for the opportunity to wrap myself up in all things Cassie.

I want to start by saying that Paranormal isn’t my usual go-to genre, but this story had me HOOKED!
After a little slow start, we learn that Cassie and her brother, Dillen, go to a regular college, and lead not-so-interesting lives. That is, unless you count Cassie’s best friend, Gabe. (SWOON)
Their father travels for work a lot, which upsets the siblings.
Dillen uses his fists to release his pent-up emotions, where as Cassie avoids her overcompensating mother like the plague.
(I thought they treated their mom badly, though, ngl.)
In college, Cassie locks eyes with the dark and mysterious Matthew Kale (DOUBLE SWOON) who’s busy with another girl, Lucy Wiggen, but he continues to stare at Cassie.
Something draws her to him, but she doesn’t know what or why.
So, as it comes to the day before Gabe’s birthday, Cassie and Dillen go to a little mystical shop to buy a present. Oh, but who do they find works there...?
AND THEN IT POPS OFF!
The story becomes a fight between light and dark, and their entire world is turned upside down.
From having a mundane life, Cassie and Dillen wake from a strange fever and are thrust into a whole other existence.
They’re now learning they have to fight against a darkness that wants to consume their light, and they have to train to use their newfound powers to do that.
Their trainer is none other than Matthew, sexy-as-sin Kale!!! WHOAAAA!!!!
(The heat between them is palpable here, I can assure you.)
When Cassie and Kale are close, their energies collide. She senses that there’s more to him than his protecting them, but she doesn’t know what, and Kale won’t say. GAH!!!
Cassie’s light is wanted by the leader of the darkness so he can regain his strength, but if he acquires it, who will suffer?
Cassie has some difficult choices to make, especially when her loved ones become entangled within the battle for good, and she finds out a major secret that has been kept from her and her brother their whole lives.
No matter what, Cassie will never give up without a fight.

My thoughts:
From Within the Light is an enjoyable YA/Fantasy novel, full of suspense, action and great character dynamics. I was fully immersed in Cassie's story, devouring the whole thing in just one day.
I loved each of the different characters, especially the strong female lead. I particularly liked how some back story for each character is included, so we get a real sense of who they are and travel with them in their growth.
The storyline is very engaging, fast paced and certainly draws the reader in.
I can't wait to read more of Cassie's story.

Let me just start by saying this book was super good! I don’t read Angel fantasy often but this book makes me want to read it more, Angel fantasy is hit or miss with me and this was 100% a hit!
I’m not going to summarize the story because I’m bad at that but I’m going to just express my emotions about this book, and I have a lot!
To start off, one huge thing I loved about this book was that every character was super easy to become attached to, even the main character, Cassie. I add that because I find the Ya Heroines of fantasy are always my least favorite character, but Cassie was a strong character with a great personality, I loved her! The subtle main love interest Kale has legit become my new book boyfriend, and i loved all the other main characters as well! My personal favorite was Cassie’s brother, Dillen. He was just pure and I held a special place in my heart for him.
The plot was very intriguing, I liked that it started very realistically and then turned paranormal. I always love getting a normal life start when it comes to fantasy. The way this author dove into the fantasy world was super clear without being so detailed I was bored, I really like her style of writing!
One thing I adore about this book is the amount of plot twists that it has. This is one of my favorite elements in a book and so I was so happy that I got to have that *gasp* OMG moment multiple times.
I recommend this to anyone who loves paranormal fantasy with romance, and needs a breath of fresh air in the category. My only complaint? Not getting to read book 2 this second!

From Within the Light was a bit of an intense read for me. It does have a slow start, but it's the kind of beginning that gives you enough to want to keep going while holding on to the mystery that is soon to unfold.
We start with Cassie and her best friend Gabe, who appear to have a very strong connection. I did think their friendship would turn romantic at some point until she starts to get more and more into the sights of another college student named Kale.
Kale had a bit of a misleading start as he enters as though he may be one of those bad-boy types of people, but ... Well, I fell for him pretty early and was constantly hoping he wasn't going to be a bad boy.
I do not want to give out any spoilers here because the story is written in a way that completely keeps you in the dark until you need to know. It's as if you are finding out the information at the same time as Cassie, so there are quite a lot of surprises.
I am just going to say three things to try to keep this as spoiler-free as possible:
1 - Gabe is a sweetheart, and I love Cassie's brother Dillen. They also have a really strong bond and would both do anything to keep the other safe.
2 - There are demons and angels in this book, and I have to say, I was conflicted about falling for an angel because he's an angel! But that happened!!
3 - Around the last quarter of this book gets so intense. There's a lot of action and a lot of emotion. There's just a lot going on.
I did think I would enjoy this book when I started it, but I didn't anticipate that I would get the type of feels that I did get. It's definitely worthy of a re-read, and I am eagerly looking out for book 2.

I was slow to get invested but after about 30 pages, I couldn’t put it down. A fantastic good vs. evil story with a lot of action and totally unexpected paths for each character. The story that I thought would take place, in the beginning, is not how it turned out and delightfully so. The author took care to provide a lot of detail for each character and scene. The extra care for details did make for a bit of a slower read in some chapters but did not take away from the overall enjoyment of the book. I really loved that each character left me in suspense about how each of their roles would all come together instead of the entirety of the focus always being on the main character, Cassie. My favorite part was the inclusion of one of the characters in extreme conflict over choosing good vs evil which translated to a choice between defending strangers or his own family. A very tough spot to be in and the author took that character through the internal and external debate seamlessly. If you enjoy fantasy and thriller, this is a must-read!

From Within the Light by Clemy Warner-Thompson is insanely addictive from the start. It follows the life of Cassie, your ordinary 21 year old in college. She lives with her mom, who she doesn’t get along with very well. From Within the Light (4/5 stars) was a little slow, although it grabbed my attention within the first few chapters which I loved. When I first started reading, I had an idea that there was going to be a love triangle between Cassie, Gabe and Kale. WAS I WRONG! This book took a lot of turns that I was NOT expecting, let alone ready for. The last chapters were heavy with action that played in my mind like a movie. I can’t wait to see the wild ride Clemy takes us on in book two.

I really enjoyed reading From within the Light by C W Thompson. The author did a great job of slowly revealing details as the plot went along. The relationships in the story felt genuine and added so much to the story.

I really enjoyed this story! I loved Cassie’s relationship with Kale, Dillen, and Gabe. The world building was well thought out and I was constantly kept guessing about the outcome of the novel. Definitely like nothing I have read before! :)

My book club received this for our reviews. The writing style was a little weird for me but i really liked the story and the characters. The descriptions were good. Sometimes authors do too much or describe things in such bizarre ways but i was able to picture everything pretty well. It was definitely a page turner and kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next. There was something missing for me that i can’t quite put my finger on, but i enjoyed reading it and i’m definitely going to read the next one to find out what happens.

Then she meets Matthew Kale, and her life changes drastically. Something major happens to throw her life into major upheaval, and Cassie has to fight like hell to survive alongside Matthew.
I am not going to lie, I was sucked in from the prologue. I honestly felt like I was right there with Cassie. While the pacing was slow in some areas, it was well worth it. The author really put the characters through the ringer. I really enjoy supernatural stories that have the battle of good versus evil.
What set this apart from other stories was the internal versus external battles. You never knew if a character was going to do the unexpected or if they were going to take the obvious route.
This story is like an onion. So many layers, and it’s so worth the read.

this book was Phenomenal.. from the moment I started to the moment that I finished I was fully thrown into it. I didn't put t down. Clemy took me on a journey, not only a journey but a battle between light and dark, evil vs good. Cassie and her brother were thrown into a world that they never thought they ever be a part of.. One day she was a typical college student and her world was turned upside down. this book contained so much action and entertainment that I literally held my breath because thought was fighting along with them. cried when hearts were broken, laughed when they were happy and scared when they were frightened. I recommend this book to everyone. Clemy thank you for taking me on this journey with you. this is a book will not forget. can't wait for book 2.

From Within the Light is a fantasy novel in the spirit of Shadowhunters/The Mortal Instruments in that there is a normal girl thrown into a supernatural situation with little time to catch up on her background or train. People keep secrets. She develops physically and mentally as a result.
I really liked the character presentation and development in this story. Characters are presented at the right time for the story, and they are developed in a believable way. The plot has a slow start, but once the action starts, it does not stop. I can tell you that it is 100% worth the slow start with some huge revelations and plot twists at the end. Things start to take a turn for the weirdest when a lecture in history class shows Gabe and fellow classmate Kale depicted in a photo hundreds of years old.
Cassie was a spitfire of a main character. I loved her. Her selflessness for her family and friends makes her so endearing and you can’t help but cheer her on. Dillen was the brother we needed in the story, and their friendship was so well done. I loved Kale. I loved Gabe. Amazing cast of characters.
The plot to this book does start out extremely slow, but once the pace picks up, it doesn’t stop rolling. The reveals are insane and keep you tearing through the pages. I really enjoyed the writing, the plot was incredible.
If you enjoyed Fallen, Vampire Academy, or if you enjoy supernatural fantasy novels, I highly recommend this!

This story was not one that I was expecting. It was a bit of a slow burn to start but with enough content to keep me gripped without giving away too much.
As I went on I could feel the change, as the plot thickened and it unfolded, it left me not wanting to put the book down, due to the utter NEED of finding out what came next. Within the last few chapters is where (excuse my French) the sh*t really hits the fan, and that ending😱 has left me reeling. Why would you do such a thing!
This was a truly exciting and addictive read, it's definitely more than just a romance with its action, gritt and plot. Honestly really looking forward to the sequel, cannot wait to get my hands on it! ❤

Wow I've just put this book down. I honestly was gripped from the minute I picked it up, to the very last sentence.

I was pleasantly surprised by this YA paranormal delight. It is not usually my go to genre but it was done so well and kept me interested all along.

In the beginning it does start off slowly but there is a reason for that. Clemy makes you get attached, invested in the characters as well as makes you create the world in your mind. She did a wonderful job of world building which made me imagine all the scenes so accurately in my mind. You can't help but get attached to the characters and be invested in their outcome. I loved how their relationships all changed throughout the book.

Such a wonderful story. Cassie grew up in a small town with her family. She was best friends with Gabe for as long as she could remember, but that was about to change one day when Gabe gets in a huge accident. Cassie begins to finally understand the truth that her family has hidden from her for so long. That she is part fallen angel and will need to be protected at all costs from the darkness that is looking to take her.
The attention to detail in this book was exquisite. I loved all the descriptions in this story from the world building to the characters personalities. A few times I struggled to understand how time was passing but that didn't affect how I enjoyed the story at all. I can't wait for the second book to be released!

From Within the Light is the story of Cassie. In this story she discovers that not only are angels and demons very real but the angels have been working to protect her for a very long time. Being part angel herself she is called upon to save those she loves and those she has never met from the Dark. To do this she must learn about herself, her family, and her gifts.
This book takes you through the world from largely Cassie’s lens and while at some points you maybe confused you’re in good company because so is Cassie. An enjoyable quick read if you like YA.

Good versus evil — Light versus dark — no matter how you phrase it, there’s always a battle of some sort going on – around us and within ourselves. No man or woman is perfect and, it appears, no “angel” is perfect either. It’s an everyday struggle and, at times, the darkness will come ahead but then there’s the glorious days when goodness prevails.
In From Within the Light, the readers will watch the internal and external struggles of the dark and light battles. We shall see causalities, tears shed, and the possibility not everyone is truly gone (cliffhanger).
We also witnessed quite the HUGE REVELATIONS. Hint: One surprise made me think of the popular saying, “The enemy of my enemy is my friend.” Another bombshell had me saying, “Umm, I didn’t see that one coming!” (Chapter 21)
I will say for those who love non-stop action with hardly any quiet moments, then you’d hit the jackpot. However if you are like me and want a bit more smooth sailing moments to help you drift off in la la land , then you won’t want to read this before bedtime. Seriously, Clemy went from exiting the metaphoric starting gate to Mach 1 quicker than I could make supper. Again, not a terrible thing for those who want a little more bang for their buck.
For you action book junkies, Clemy definitely “brought it” when it comes to the battle scenes with the leaches and The Keepers. They were hardcore where anyone and everyone was thrown into the mix.

WOW! What a great story about a young girl who one day her life changes in a way she never could've imagined. Cassie spent her days wondering if her father would be home or away on business or at school trying to get to class on time. Matthew Kale was a student she knew about but never gave much thought until one day she started really noticing him. One day she wakes up and is told she had a fever but why did it affect her memories? She finds out her parents aren't what she thought and she's supposed to do things she doesn't understand. Can she figure it out with Matthew Kale before it's too late?
The author did an amazing job telling this story! It has so many layers and characters that you just love, well most of them. At first you think it's a story of young romance but that quickly changes and you get a PNR story that you want more of. A must definite must read!!

There's such promise in the premise of this story. The lore behind the world is interesting and is something I wish had been fleshed out and fully realised. However, in order to pick the most intriguing bones of this story out, I think it could do with some tight editing. A lot of passages were overly descriptive - many descriptions of her life at home and at college weren't necessary.
Character-wise, I enjoyed the bond between the siblings. There's a real sense of familial love there. I also really liked the character of Gabe but I can't say much about him without giving things away. I was indifferent to, what I gather to be, the leading man of the story, Kale. I wasn't able to get much sense of what he was about.

The characters are well thought out and the story itself was strong enough to bring me to tears at the end. I strongly recommend this to all fantasy lovers, especially those who enjoy Angel stories.
There were unanticipated revelations that I truly enjoyed making this story all the more enjoyable.
I found the very long chapters irritating and had a difficult time with the British English aspects as an American reader. This is why I opted for 4 stars instead of five.
