Foster child Fiona Nichols is a serial runaway. Now living with the Zook family, her life is filled with love, but also with rules and responsibilities. As Fiona watches Amish teenagers enjoying rumspringa liberties— a freedom denied to her—dissatisfaction escalates. When a trip out of town reveals a curious stranger, Fiona’s restlessness increases and she begins to search for answers to her past.
Conrad King is perplexed by the sudden change in Fiona. Believing in his heart that the Amish community is her true home, Conrad hopes they will eventually wed. When he learns that Fiona has disappeared without a back-ward glance, he is shattered and must lean into God for courage.
Will Fiona’s willfulness lead her away from what God is asking of her? Can the Zooks accept the choice that Fiona must make? And what of a future for Conrad and Fiona? Is the chance for love lost forever? Find out in this sweet Amish Romance from Mary Lantz
A refreshing change of pace as this Amish storyline is different than the usual. There are scenes in and interactions with the outside world which gives this a modern feel as compared to many Amish books which sometimes feel outdated or old-fashioned due to their isolated setting.
Another difference is that the low-key romance is in the background and Fiona's personal distress regarding her past, present, and future is the focus. Her background and resentment make her a character that many can relate to and empathize with.
Fiona's struggles revolve around family relationships and she eventually comes to terms with what family and belonging mean. Family can be the people you choose just as much as biological relatives, just the same as home and family is as much place as it is people.
An enjoyable and honest feel-good story about finding your place.
This was a sweet story about a young girl's choice who had been raised as a foster child in an Amish home but yearned to find and know her bearth mother. She had choices to make as to whether she wanted to stay with the family that raised her and the boy she loved there or to give all that up to live with her real mother. It was well written and I would definitely recommend it!
I really loved, loved this book. It was filled with so much good Amish drama. I’m so glad Fiona decided to stay in the Amish community with her sweet Amish family.
Well you just never know how life will work out you get impatience and want things to get be different but God shows you what is best and enough love for two mom's
A gentle read and the "troubled" teen was, as we expected a lovely young woman. My only complaint was that this is the second story about the Zooks which isn't mentioned and a reference to the previous story The Foster Child's Amish Love would have been helpful to understand the foster family dynamics
