Father's Mother

Rate this book
Marie believes she is a devoted self-sacrificing mother who only wants the best for her two children, especially her son the priest. When she discovers a dark secret, her response is to take matters into her own hands.

Father Joseph is an elderly priest who does not speak. What is Father Joseph’s story?

Angelissa lost her mother at a young age. Why is Marie drawn to her?

This story is about multi-generational conflict. The characters interact with each other from a place of trauma without knowing each other’s histories and in some cases, without knowing their own. It is an intersection of human flaws with a sprinkling of Divine intervention.

This book may contain content that may be disturbing to sensitive readers.

I finished Father's Mother in one sitting thanks to a riveting storyline and a cast of compelling characters. It was easy to identify with the very human main character, who made a story so outside of my own experiences easier to immerse myself into and understand. The austere and unflinching writing style made it feel enjoyable brisk and fast paced. I also loved the cover art, which sold me right from the start. I certainly recommend this book for readers who seek realistically flawed, human characters.

A well-written, quick read about a foul- mouthed but loving mother of a good parish priest in a small town that reminds me of my own town. She is less devout than her son, but is proud of him. She comes to help him in more ways than he knows. There is a bit of a mystery and a surprising twist. A thoroughly enjoyable read!

Father’s Mother is an excellent book about a selfless woman who puts others above her own worries. Marie is very strong, caring and someone you would want as a best friend. She is very in tune with a young woman from church who appears troubled . What happens next ….all I can say is you won’t be able to put it down. Please keep writing,Elaine. Bravo on your first book.

Father's Mother is an excellent and quick read. It shows us that there are no perfect victims or perfect heroes, and that while we can never undo our trauma, we can always become the person who would have saved us. Just remember to look for the signs.
