Dialogue Driven

This is the first book I’ve read by D.R. Grady, but it won’t be the last as I’ve already purchased another two books written by her and I would like to read the next book in this series. Which leads me to the review of this book ….

If you read the blurb, you already know that this story is about Nick Harrington, a self-proclaimed Nerd, and Alexis Collins, a gorgeous woman he initially considers way out of his league. They both work at Chic Tech, Inc. where Nick is the head of the R&D department and Alexis is the top performing sales person. The story of their romance is sweet and they are constantly amazed that they are so different, yet so compatible. They are both encouraged to apply for the same job by the CEO of the company, which places an incredible strain on their relationship. How they resolve that conflict is the crisis in the book.

When I first started reading this book, I thought the language and sentence structure were simplistic and incredibly awkward, littered with language that most people would never use in everyday life. For example, the word “emitted” appears in several places in the book and, in my opinion, is not always used correctly, such as the phrase, “Her voice emitted husky.” There were many partial sentences that should have been combined with the preceding sentence. Nevertheless, as I progressed through the book, I either became accustomed to the author’s style or decided it wasn’t worth noting, because I did find the story to be engaging. The world building was on the light side, but the character development was much better. I would classify this book as dialogue driven more than anything else.

Altogether, my rating would be 3 ½ stars, but since half stars aren't permitted, it would be 4 stars.

The Geek Gets the Girl by D.R. Grady is a cute romance. It's the first book from " The Geek " series.

Alex Collins worked at Chic Tech for the last few months in the sales department. Her luck in dating was horrible since she always chose the wrong men for her. So with her two best friends, they made a pact, to accept the first offer for a date from any man. For her, it was from Nick Harrington. He also worked in the same company but he was in research and development. He was a bit geeky and different from those she dated before. Her acceptance of the date surprised both of them. The next few weeks were pure bliss until the day they had a business proposal that could change their lives forever.

It's such a sweet clean romance. It's a mix of opposites attract and geeky romance. It gives you the feeling that you are reading a high school romantic story, they act so innocently. I liked that their relationship was developing slowly and steadily without drama. It reminded me a bit of old-school dating. Both characters were likable and relatable. They had good chemistry from the beginning.
My favorite part was their first dinner together. The only thing that bothered me a little was how much it was repeated that he was a geek and that she was a beautiful woman.

In conclusion, this book is great for those who love a clean romantic story. I enjoyed it and I will rate it with 4 stars.

This is a sweet story without any bigger drama.

I enjoyed the story in itself but had a little problem with the supposition of geek versus beauty.

I had a hard time seeing Nick as a geek, as he is described as rather dreamy. In the same way it’s a little tiring to be reminded of how beautiful Alexis is as if that is supposed to be what makes their relationship so odd.

The thing is that this is two persons who are both self assured and confident in their own personas and know their value on the sork place. They both find the other physically attractive and are also attracted to each other’s personalities. They both come from stable, educated families and value science etc.

They start to date because Alexis and two of her friends made a pact to accept invitations from men they would otherwise have turned down.

That’s a great start to a story and I must add that I enjoyed reading the story itself, i just didn’t think they were all that odd as a couple.

This book had an interesting premise, but the execution fell flat. The language was stilted and there were so many incomplete sentences that I sometimes had trouble figuring out what the author was trying to say.

These two adults behaved more like teenagers in their dating habits and expectations. I get that they are excited, but trying to meet for every meal and talking about marriage after one month really highlighted their immaturity.

The hiring of a woman in the lab led to some really disappointing dialogue. The author’s point seemed to be that men who are intelligent cannot work or behave appropriately around women?

And the “conflict” of the story that is mentioned in the blurb as their big relationship test, was really wasn’t a conflict at all. It was resolved in one easy conversation.

This book could definitely benefit from an experienced editor.

I requested an early reader copy of this book and these are my honest opinions.

Sweet, Angsty Workplace Drama

This was a sweet book, and since I had an early review copy I will give the benefit of the doubt and hope later editions are better edited - the sentence structure was a bit simple and choppy and didn't flow in several places. I liked the main characters but for 30 year old professional department heads /sales managers sometimes their "do they really like me" 2 week "insta- love and angst really didn't track with who they were supposed to be. There was a bit too much of that which made the book drag a bit. The book did do a good job of addressing "nerds" and women in the workplace well, as well as different professional and communication styles in the workplace which I found interesting.

I love nerdy romance and this one did not disappoint. Alexis and her friends make a decision to accept the next date request no matter who it's from (as long as the guy is safe/non-creepy) but she surprises herself by saying yes to Nick without even thinking about that pact.

This romance is a bit over the top in terms of how much time the main characters spend together after their first date (as in breakfast dates, lunch dates, coffee dates, 2 dates in the same day…) but it remained a "clean" romance with nothing more than kissing. However, I enjoyed these characters enough to ignore that mess, lol. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The Geek Gets the Girl is Book 1 in The Geek Series by D R Grady. This contemporary romance is so enjoyable. I really liked that the characters are smart with good jobs, but, they are normal everyday people. Alexis is having boyfriend trouble and seems to fall for the wrong men. Nick works for the same company as Alexis, but has never asked her out. I thought the romance of Nick and Alexis was an enjoyable story. I am looking forward to reading Book 2, The Geek Snags the Fashion Designer. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.

I was looking forward to reading this book but admit I found it hard to get into. There were inconsistencies and editing errors that detracted from a storyline that seemed promising at the start but failed to take off. Unfortunately, the characters didn't engage me and the development of their relationship seemed overly drawn out and lacked heat. That said, it wasn't a bad "clean" contemporary romance novel and it was a nice way to spend an afternoon.

This is a clean romance and easy read. I found it difficult at times as there was so much detail on simple things like cooking dinner, or over explaining things - I found myself skipping bits.
Nick and Alexis were a lovely couple, on first impressions you would think they were nothing alike but you should never judge a book by it’s cover.
Still enjoyed it despite the far too much detail.

I enjoyed this clean romance but think it would benefit from a good edit, hence the 4 star rating.

The characters are likeable and believable, and their story, from their meeting to falling in love, is told through their eyes, and their private thoughts. The ending sets up the rest of the series nicely, and I’m guessing we haven’t heard the last of these two yet.

It was actually difficult to finish this book. It just didn't engage me or interest me. I felt this book was so detail oriented that I got lost and it was almost boring. It should definitely be listed as a clean romance, but there can still be some fire and I never got any.

A nice, sweet relaxing read. It felt good to read a gentle and loving romance. Lead characters, Alexis and Nick, are intelligent, honest and compassionate with just enough levity to keep one happy and content while reading. Story had intrigue and life lessons as well.

A very sweet book about finding love and knowing it when it happens! Alexis a beautiful top sales woman meets Nick the head of the lab at their company! They find it makes no difference what they look like if they fit! You meet them, their pets, their families and friends and an unstable woman!Liked it & would definitely recommend it!

Nick is a certifiable geek and he knows it. Alexis is tired of the men she has been dating, she wants someone for herself not the way she looks. When they each are approached about a VP position will it end their fledgling romance. Sweet clean romance that will have you rooting for Nick and Alexis. Nice easy read.

He's a lab guy. She's in sales.
They meet and get to know each other, and start to like each other.
Then they're encouraged to try for the same promotion.
So they have so much to decide what's next for them.
Loved this.
Can't wait for more in the series.

This was a first time read for me by this author, so I didn't have any specific expectations. The title is cute and is what drew me to it and when I read the blurb, I definitely knew I wanted to try it. I was not disappointed.

Nick is a self-proclaimed nerd and Alexis the hot girl who is totally out of his league, or so he initially thinks. They do start dating and their romance is sweet and cute. They are complete opposites, but complement each other well. They work in the same company, and everything goes along fine until they are both encouraged to apply for the new vice president job. Their relationship is then thrown for a loop as they are faced with the decision of putting their job first or their relationship.

This was a fun, clean, and cute romance and the first book of the series. I enjoyed it very much and look forward to continuing the series.
