I’d never needed a week away with my brothers so bad until I’d broken up with my girlfriend. Sun, sand, surf and a few drinks to pass the nights away. The female persuasion was the farthest thing from my mind…that was until I lock eyes with the stunning brunette sitting on the other side of the bar.
She turned those pretty grey-blue eyes on me, and it was that moment that I set my sights on her. It didn’t take me long to figure out that she was there alone, even though every time she’d make eye contact with me, she’d glance over her shoulder like she was waiting for someone. It wasn’t my style to gawk, but she was damn cute.
I’ll never forget my first conversation with her either. My brothers and I had decided to move the party from the bar to my hotel room. Things got loud, and before I knew it she was standing on the other side of my door. I was even more surprised to find her wearing nothing but a short t-shirt. Only she wasn’t here to join the party, instead she was raging with anger at the fact we’d kept her up half the night.
As she walked away from me, pulling her t-shirt down to cover herself it was then I decided I was determined to show this uptight but gorgeous woman how to have a little fun. What started out as a fling for me, quickly grows into something more. As vacation ends, we agree to keep seeing one another, but soon I find her pushing me away. Scars from her past have her terrified of the future, and I fear our love will be over before it even begins. I just need to figure out how to convince her that we are worth fighting for.
Those searching for a sizzling contemporary romance that tugs at the heartstrings need to look no further than A Kiss Beneath the Stars by USA Today Best Selling Author S.L. Sterling!
USA Today Bestselling Author S.L. Sterling was born and raised in southern Ontario.
An avid reader all her life, S.L. Sterling dreamt of becoming an author. She decided to give writing a try after one of her favorite authors launched a course on how to write your novel. This course gave her the push she needed to put pen to paper and her debut novel "It Was Always You" was born.
When S.L. Sterling isn't writing or plotting her next novel she can be found curled up with a cup of coffee, blanket and the newest romance novel from one of her favorite authors.
In her spare time, she enjoys camping, hiking, sunny destinations, spending quality time with family and friends and of course reading.
The book starts with Autumn coming to terms with a divorce. As a reader you really feel for her. Now as you read on you will realise that a divorce for her is the best thing ever and that her ex is a real piece of work - she is better off without the slime ball.
She meets Hunter - swoon Hunter - a real man who know how to look after a woman - something she is not used to.
Insecurities mar the journey to their HEA but they do overcome them. Would have liked a bit more of an epilogue but you can’t always have it all!!
A Kiss Beneath the Stars is a sweet romance story between two characters who aren’t looking for love but find it while vacationing. The author does a great job establishing their connection and keeping the reader interested in the story line. I have to say that Autumn frustrated the hell out of me because the constantly ran away from her problems instead of talking them out. Hunter was able to show her how great a person she was and what she meant to him. Hoping there will be another story about the characters in the book!
Eh. This book didn't work for me. I always like to give new authors I find on KU a try, but this unfortunately was a miss.
The writing style was just okay for me. I felt like, at times, the writer got a bit repetitive with the story. For example, when the heroine Autumn, tells Hunter what is making her tick that's great. But then, we hear the same story again from her brother in law Derek and Hunter acts like it's all new to him. No! He's heard a majority of this story before. Annoying.
Speaking of annoying, Hunter seems to be a completely different hero in the beginning of the story than what we get toward the end. This isn't even a character arc of growth. It's like a complete 360 within 2 chapters.
Then, there's Autumn. Who. Never. Stopped. Crying. And, giving off mixed signals must be her middle name. It was a constant roller coaster and I felt that at the end of the book I really disliked her. Sure, she was gaslight and cheated on and suffered so terribly. But, I like a heroine who's dealing with sh*t, but is tough enough to pull up her pantyhose and move on. Either you want to be happy or be a miserable shrew.
Ugh.
So yes, this one didn't work for me. I'm glad other people found enjoyment with this one.
Oh wow this was a sad and emotional read with a beautiful love story to go with it ... Sl. Sterling absolutely knows what she's doing she drags u into these unexpectedly beautiful heartbreaking stories and it's almost a shock when u put the book down and realise it's not reality .... this book was no exception what a wonderful roller coaster of emotions I felt while reading A kiss beneath the stars wow just wow !
I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. I really enjoyed reading “A Kiss Beneath the Stars” from S. L. Sterling. This book is really well written with a great storyline and the engaging characters have great chemistry and interaction that pulled me into their story. This is an Entertaining, Must Read Book that I really loved reading from beginning to end
This was a good read. I did sympathize with what Autumn went through. I can relate but other than that I did t care for her. I get that she was hurt and traumatized but she didn’t do anything to help herself. She just kept making bad decisions and I got tired that she kept running.
There are so many issues with this book. Starting with Chapter 5 out of nowhere Hunter starts talking about Bryce, Chase, and Carter but it isn’t mentioned until further in the book that those are his brothers. We are given no details when they are first mentioned. There are a lot of run on and rambling monologues throughout the book. There are also grammatical errors and often there is a conversation with grammatical errors making it hard to determine who is speaking. Hunter’s internal dialogue is just gross page 20 “he was just looking for his next piece of ass.” Autumn is always falling apart and throwing temper tantrums throughout the book when she is a 29 year old woman. A lot of things are repeated between the characters. Evelyn told Autumn that Hunter would come pick her up and take her out for missing their date because he was late but Evelyn had already told Hunter that it wasn’t necessary so why is she offering that to Autumn? Autumn just so happened to coincidentally book a trip to the same resort as Hunter. Out of all of the vacation places to go, it is highly unlikely they would both choose Jamaica. I understand it is a book but it is highly unlikely. Evelyn suggesting that Autumn try on her bathing suit and get her brother in law’s opinion is disturbing. Page 32 as soon as Hunter said he wanted to go back to his room I knew they would be partying and Autumn would come over to complain. This book was just way too predictable. Page 48 makes no sense this is where the remainder of the book really falls off the rails as Autumn mentions it has been 3 years since she has been with a man this is incorrect. The beginning of the book, Autumn has been living with her sister for the last six months after she was served divorce papers by Jason, she had miscarried six months before that meaning it had only been a little over a year since she had been with Jason sexually. Page 63 is when Hunter finally introduces his brothers and mentions the law firm - to me this is too far into the book and there should’ve been added information in chapter 5 when they were first introduced. The first sex scene was gross, after going down on Autumn - Hunter just starts fucking her. It does not seem like she provided consent and is just cringey that it basically states he “drills” into her until he finishes and then laid there to hold her - nothing about this sounds nice or enjoyable. Page 79 Autumn states the divorce was 2 years ago when she has only been living with her sister for 6 months - there was nothing to note the passage of a year and a half. When Autumn tells Hunter how Jason told her he wanted a divorce she tried to say that he was mad she would never be able to give him children when this was never mentioned at the beginning of the book when Autumn had her flashback to that day. Chapter 22 Autumn is begging Hunter to stop but he keeps going while fingering her - this gross. Stop means stop. Page 89, I knew Autumn would get pregnant this just adds to the predictability of the book. Page 95, Evelyn does a little foreshadowing we know Autumn is getting pregnant and going to trap this man. I thought at page 100 that Dereck was the only decent one trying to keep Evelyn in line and Autumn level headed. Page 104 when Autumn is to stay with Hunter he tells her to rest up because she won’t get much sleep this is so cringey. When Autumn tells Hunter, “Lick me.” I about lost it - who says this? Page 109 another round of unprotected sex WE KNOW SHE IS GONNA GET PREGNANT. Page 121 when Hunter says sex with Autumn is different than with other “girls” WOMEN the correct word is WOMEN. Page 125 Autumn running upstairs and slamming her door - is she a child? She is always running and hiding and not facing issues head on. Page 126 makes no sense. Dereck told Evelyn to finish the decorating with Autumn and talk her into being Hunter’s date to the party then he says don’t worry about fixing things between them - this seems contradictory. I had so many issues with this book I can’t even fathom writing out the rest of my annotations. My suggestion: create a drinking game - drink every time you see the word coffee. They are always after a cup of coffee in this book. If the author would like more recommendations on making this book better hmu.

I was pulled right into this story. This is the first story I read by this author and I was not disappointed. The story has laughs, pain, secrets, and heartbreak. And a sweet HEA
My first book by this author and I loved it. I found myself hooked from the first pages and I couldn’t put it down. I loved Hunter but I wanted to throw my kindle a few times because of Autumn. Autumns ex was a real jerk so I understand why Autumn was the way she was. I’m really excited to read more about the Malone brothers!
This was my first book by S.L. Sterling and I loved it. I will definitely be reading more of her books. I loved the characters and the plot. Every girl needs a Hunter Malone in their life.
This is a new to me author. Yes, I will be buying more books from her. This book is about a woman that lost her baby, then her marriage. She almost lost her will to live. She goes on vacation and meets a dreamy guy. He sweeps her off her feet. They find out that they are from the same area. The story is sweet and sexy. This book is worth picking up and reading. Pam James.
This is the first book I have read by S.L. Sterling and I truly enjoyed it. This book is an emotional rollercoaster. Autumn has been through some horrible times in the past few years. She went through something tragic and then her husband asked for a divorce. I felt for her but after reading the book this was the best thing that ever happened to her. He is something else. The way he makes it seems as though it was all her fault when it wasn’t something she could even control is horrible. Her sister thinks she should get back out there and sets her up on a blind date. Well that doesn’t go well either but it is also for the better. After the failed blind date Autumn decides to go on vacation by herself, just get away for a bit. While there she meets a fantastic man, Hunter. Her hurt is still right there and it makes Hunter want to make everything better for her. The hit it off and want to see where it could go after their vacations. But nothing is easy. There are misunderstandings and fear. Will they be able to make a go of it or will Autumn let things from her past stop her from having a bright future. I really felt for Autumn. She had been lied to and mistreated by her ex. It was affecting every part of her life. Hunter is a great guy. He is completely taken with Autumn. He is thrown off his game though because of her past and because he has never felt this way about a woman before. He wants to give her time and space when she asks for it but that may not be the best thing. He is so patient with her and is just there for her. I loved this book so much. I highly recommend it. I look forward to reading more books by S.L. Sterling in the future.
Autumn struggling to start a new life after her divorce and losing her baby. Still in therapy and living by her sister. They set her up for a blind date but her ran late and she went home after finding out that her ex husband and her best friend were together. In that moment she booked a Jamaica vacation. Hunter was running late to fixed blind date. He also went for a Jamaica vacation with his brothers. They met in the lobby of the resort and were also in the neighboring rooms. They didn't start on the friendly note due to his snark comments and partying late in the night. But he was drawn to her and finally he invited her to dinner. After that they were inseparable. After one week they went home but learned that they live one hour apart. At home she waited for him to get in touch and when they finally did she finds out that he was the blind date her sister insisted to go on. After a few ups and downs she finds out that she is pregnant (a shock after they told her she couldn't conceive at all). I felt her struggle to get her life back to normal and the fear to put herself back out there. The feels they felt were so real and I always liked when a player turned into a love sick man. That is strong. I also liked the fact that there is still hope for men out there and that they take care of women they love.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I wanted to love this book. I really did. And there were really good things about it, but overall, I just liked A Kiss Beneath the Stars.
The good: it was a sweet romance (with some dirty stuff!). It was pretty mild on the drama. I liked Hunter and his brothers. They felt the most real to me, and I will read their stories. I really liked the plot! There was a great premise.
The not-so-good: there was a lot of “telling” the story, rather than “showing”. I really didn’t care for Autumn or her sister and brother-in-law. I understand that Autumn has been through an extremely difficult experience, but I like my characters-especially my female characters- to have a little more strength. Again, I’m certainly not saying that she doesn’t have the right to feel the way she does, but I would have preferred her not to have to rely so much on others. And I feel as if Evelyn and Derek enabled Autumn to continue in her depression.
I will definitely look for other books by SL Sterling. There’s a lot of promise with her writing, and she has great story ideas. I also would like to see Chase and Bryce find their own!
*** ARC Received for Honest Review *** ***3.5 stars*** This is a sweet romance. Nothing prepares either Hunter or Autumn for the attraction there is between them. Autumn is still recovering from her divorce and failed marriage; Hunter is not looking for anything meaningful, when a chance vacation brings them together. I really enjoyed the genuineness of this book. The struggle that Autumn faces following her marriage is so real. I loved Hunter being a completely honest and good guy who counters Autumn's ex-husband who is such a douche. This book simply had a normalcy to it which I thoroughly enjoyed. The main drawback for me (realize that I'm a HUGE fan of all things angst and drama) was that I was waiting for more. I guess I wanted something to really drive them a part or create a crazy conflict that never materialized. But honestly the great story between Autumn and Hunter was amazing without it. (Review by Terri "Jane")
Having gone through a messy divorce, Autumn just needed to get away from it all. Running away from her troubles, Autumn finds herself on a crash course with Hunter, a man who ends up being everything she ever wanted, but never thought she’d have.
When Hunter meets Autumn, he stops at nothing to have her. But then, one night of passion leads to a lifetime commitment that leaves Autumn wondering if Hunter will stay, or if he will go.
This book didn’t capture my attention as much as I had anticipated, but it was a decent read overall.
This is a wonderful sweet romance. Some steamy scenes that will have your imagination working overtime. Very well written. Emily is perfect for this book, such a lovely tone to her voice. #audiobookobsessionreviewer
This was a pretty decent read. I think what bugged me was the lack of backbone she had. I understand it happens in real life, a lot. But I think I like my heroine’s to be just a bit stronger. It bugged me. Overall though, the story was a good one with some hot scenes and some sweet ones.
3.5 stars. I enjoyed this book but it was just okay. I didn't feel the swoon that some other felt. The hero was hot but I wanted the heroine to be a little stronger.
Autumn either had no luck or bad luck, when it came to her ex-Jason. He was a certifiable D-wad. He is a taker, a user, and a boaster. And, her so-called friend, will find out soon enough that what goes around, comes around. If he cheated once sister, what makes you think it won't happen again when someone else, comes along? The thing that pisses me off is that neither of the backstabbers, had the balls to tell her, the truth when it first started. No, they did it in such a way that they hit her when she was at her, worst and gave her a lifelong seed of doubt, and years of therapy to look forward to.
Fate played a part in the meeting of, Autumn, and, Hunter. It was not meant for them to meet, before their trips. That look across the room, the chills he gave her, and the tingles in her lady bits, were all reasons to want something she hadn’t in over three years. Hunter and his four brothers always vacation together once a year to let off steam. With all of them being lawyers and owning their, own practice, the pressures were high to maintain a level of expertise to keep above the competitors.
So, they were on their way to, Jamaica, to the Pacific Jewel Resort. For rest, laughter, and women. The irony is the night, of Autumn’s mishap with the blind date dinner the first after her divorce, is that she sees her ex there with her now ex-best friend. And, she’s with her, ex-Jason so she leaves. She goes home and decides she needs time, away from meddling older sisters, and brothers-in-law who set her up on dates, that are no-shows. Up until this point, she barely left her sister’s home for a year. But, she grabs her computer and books a flight and a week's stay at, the Pacific Jewel Resort in, Jamaica. All roads lead to each other, however, not all are smooth.
See how Hunter helps her more than any therapy session has, in the three-plus years. Every woman will want, a Hunter in their life, by the end of their read. Food for thought: If Derek saw, Jason kissing up with other women around town, but never her ex-best friend, that means he wasn’t only cheating on her, right?
What do you do with your life after a failed marriage? You move on right, but it's easier said than done, especially when betrayal is involved.
Autumn decides to take a much needed vacation after everything she's been going through and in this vacation she meets Hunter. Hunter is a wonderful man who knows how to treat a lady and will go out of his way for a woman. But Autumn is still trying to recover from her life that is in shambles.
Hunter is there to pick up the broken pieces Autumn's ex-husband has left of her, at least he's trying. He is caring, loving and just a very wonderful person with Autumn.
But after the vacation real life happens and they have to see where this will go. Are they meant to be together? Can Autumn move on after the messy divorce she encountered? Can she give Hunter a chance and start a new life with a man that is trying his hardest to show her that he will be nothing like her ex-husband?
This book was about struggles, betrayal, lies and of course LOVE! The chemistry between Autumn and Hunter was strong and I love characters that act out their feelings even if it happens instantly because there is a thing called "insta-love".
Autumn deserves a man that will cherish her and take care of her every step of the way.
This book was fantastic, I loved the storyline. When I read the synopsis, it captured me wholeheartedly and I just knew that I had to read it and I was so darn happy that I got a chance to read it because I love a good love story that will make me feel what the characters are feeling, and this was it for me!
4 Stars
**Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review**
take a journey with Sterling and the characters created for this contemporary romance dealing with loss, divorce, exs, freedom, new beginnings and Autumn and Hunter. Watching their story unfold was an experience. The cast of characters were rich, warm, inviting, amusing, sincere, obtuse, annoying, rude, and special. This one gave.
Autumn was plagued with grief and abandonment. She spent so much time in her head and lost in the world. Hunter was a self-assured man that was working so hard. He was one man that held pride in himself. He was a man that was true to himself and open and honest to others. He was a man that knew how to treat a lady. Autumn was a woman wary of men. The man in her past has changed her perception of life, love, and relationships. Above all that was present this was Autumns journey to discovering how her life could be after suffering a loss and a divorce.
Autumn finds that she had much to learn, gain, and experience with her new beginning and chance at a HEA. Along the way she had the chance to experience both the good and bad of people in her life. Evelyn & Derek, Chase, Carter, Bryce, Jason & Anna, and Jocelyn. Each character had a part to play and it was timed well to make an impact on the story as it unfolded. I look forward to reading another S.L. Sterling story.
(audiobook) A KISS BENEATH THE STARS is a very sweet romance. Both characters are adorable, and the angst is at the minimum–compared with the romance part. It’s so sugary that you risk cavities reading/listening to it.
It starts with a broken woman and a man not looking past a rebound; then it becomes a vacation fling; and the more the story progresses, the more the relationship deepens. That’s what I enjoyed the most. It felt kind of realistic–if you ever experienced that sort of fast romance (hint: I did).
The final twist, I saw it coming from the beginning, but I liked it nonetheless. It was the perfect ending for that little bonbon. A spicy bonbon at times, with hot scenes of love that aren’t really original, but that go well with the book’s mood.
So if you want your heart to swell a bit while reading/listening to a lovely romance, that one is for you.
Autumn and Hunter—she lost a baby early in her second trimester, was told by the doctor she couldn’t have any more children, spiraled into depression, then her husband divorced her, and she spiraled further into depression and existed at her sister Nd brother-in-law’s house. He’s got a reputation as something of a player—a couple of dates and he moves on to the next woman—but he’s also a successful attorney and well-liked. They get set up on a blind date (she doesn’t even know what his name is) and he’s so late to the restaurant that she leaves before he appears. So she books a trip to a sunny getaway, which turns out to be the exact place he and his brothers are going for their annual vacation together. The rest, as they say, is history. They meet, fall in love, she gets pregnant (who’s surprised?), they split and get back together, and after their daughter is born, he proposes and they have their HEA. My biggest complaint about this book is that she cries—a lot. And, honestly, I think his character is better-developed than hers is. On the plus side, even though the focus of the book is their relationship, he doesn’t forget about his work altogether.

This book follows Autumn and Hunters relationship. After Autumns world shatters after her divorce and some health issues, she decides to take herself on a vacation after banishing herself to her room from months on end. This is where she meets Hunter (who couldn’t take his eyes off her from the moment they met). Now this part of the book is what I loved and I feel like was 5 stars material. The connection between Autumn and Hunter was amazing and cute, from the little flirting to the romantic beach dates. However after the third act breakup it felt like there was a shift in how autumn felt about Hunter.. Hunter was no doubt head over heels for Autumn but Autumn on the other hand.. it felt forced like it was more of a convenience for her.
Anyways that is just my opinion, don’t come for me 😭 I would still recommend this book to others because everyone has their own opinions and if you’ve read the book and really enjoyed it I am happy for you, I just didn’t gel with it. I will also say that the spice was very good! 🤭so if you don’t like spice I wouldn’t recommend reading this.
Summer vacation romances are fast becoming one of my favorite sub-genres. This book was a quick and easy read. I think the heart of the book really elevated the story for me. I felt the writing was very well done and the story progressed at a believable pace. The characters overall, were well written with depth and vulnerability. At times, I had a hard time connecting with Autumn. I understood her insecurities and the difficulties life placed before her, but at times I felt that she was very immature in how she handled situations. To me, she wasn’t a very likable character. I enjoyed seeing her grow and mature as the book progressed, and she did redeem herself a bit towards the end of the book. Hunter was definitely an alpha male! He wanted Autumn and one way or another he was going to have her. I enjoyed his character the most, I liked how he handled himself n situations, and he just seemed like a genuine nice guy. All in all, this was an enjoyable albeit slightly emotional read.
Autumn and Hunter’s story is one built from learning to trust again and for going after what you want. Autumn is still recovering emotionally from a marriage that left her as a shell of the woman she had been prior to her divorce. Hunter is good guy but has no plans to settle anytime soon. After the devastating loss from her marriage Autumn is determined that no man will be hurt by her failures ever again. Hunter has finally found the one woman who has the ability to make him want to settle down and start a life together. These two are complete opposites of each other, yet they clearly are made for one another. So when the one thing that Autumn fears presents itself to her she does the only thing she can think of...protect Hunter from heartbreak. She pushes him away, leaving him confused. Now Hunter must decide does he let her go or fight for the life he knows is within his reach?
I totally LOVE this storyline! Hunter was an absolute book boyfriend and the way he took care of Autumn was 💯% opposite of her first husband. No wonder she would have a complete panic attack when he would show up in her orbit. And another thing - I hope one of the last 3 books in this series tell the story of Carter and Hope. They are married already in Book 1, but from what I read about them - - their story should be SUPER INCREDIBLE! But back to these two. I loved everything about their story. The yummylicious scenes were exceptional. They were tasteful with the doors open. (As an aside: I really don’t understand why people read this genre and then say in their review how they just don’t like “explicit sex scenes”. Then read a sweet romance, girl because I love me some good lovin’ in my books!!)Well done, Ms. Sterling. VERY WELL DONE!
