The Holy Bible: Catholic Public Domain Version

Rate this book
The CPDV is a Roman Catholic translation. Most of the many English language versions of the Bible available today are Protestant versions. These translations tend to reflect a Protestant theology, in opposition to Catholic theology. This specifically Roman Catholic translation makes the Roman Catholic understanding of the text more easily accessible to the Catholic reader.
The CPDV is written in modern English. Some Catholic versions of the Bible, such as the Douay-Rheims version, are good translations, but they are difficult to understand because the English language has changed through the centuries. Even a translation like the Revised Standard Version is showing its age in terms of the English language. This is partly because the RSV is a revision of several older versions (including the American Standard Version and the King James Version) with more archaic language.

It is good to read different translations of the Bible. Reading any translation is profitable.
