Alice Merryfield’s plans for revitalising Upper Bamton Vineyard are starting to unravel…
The new visitors’ centre is nowhere near being finished… She might have made a mistake when she hired her ex-boyfriend for the job… And now he and his team of builders have done a bunk!
With the first Knit One Pour One wine and wool evening looming, Alice doesn’t have anywhere to host it – and her nerves are fraying fast.
When she discovers a trespasser parked near the river, Alice’s first instinct is to kick the unwelcome visitor off their land. The only thing that makes her pause is the loud snoring coming from the back of the beaten-up old van. Maybe she’ll come back later!
The vineyard has always been Alice’s home and she’s determined to make it the centre of the community again – just like it had been when her mother was alive. It has taken a lot to convince her father that it’s finally time to let people back into their little world. Now that she has his - rather grudging - blessing, she’s determined to make it happen… somehow.
Is it too late for Alice to unpick the tangle she’s in? Could her ex spin a convincing enough yarn to win her back? One thing’s for sure – the vineyard’s future is hanging by a thread, and change is coming whether Alice is ready for it or not!
A cosy story full of friendship, fun and laughter! For fans of Holly Martin, Polly Babbington and Heidi Swain.
A New Arrival in Upper Bamton is the first standalone novella in the Upper Bamton series.
Beth Rain has always wanted to be a writer and has been penning adventures for characters ever since she learned out to stare into the middle-distance and daydream.
She currently lives in the (sometimes) sunny South West, and it is a dream come true to spend her days hanging out with Bob – her trusty laptop – and scoffing crisps and chocolate while dreaming up swoony love stories for all her imaginary friends.
Join Beth in Seabury if you fancy dipping your toes in the waves, head to Little Bamton for some quintessential English village action, or take a trip down the river to Upper Bamton if standalones involving a spot of wine and wool are your thing!
Beth’s writing will always deliver on the happy-ever-afters.
What a fantastic change from all the witchy/horror books I've been reading. I NEEDED this! ❥❥❥❥❥
Join Alice as she tries to get an event going in her hometown to hopefully brighten up the community and bring them all back together again. But of course, she can't manage to do this alone so here comes Jake the perfect person with a solution for her! You gotta love a happy ending, and this one just melts my heart! Please read this if you're looking for a nice pick-me-up or quick happy-go-lucky read to get you out of a reading slump.
"Birdsong was drifting on the breeze and she closed her eyes, trying to differentiate between the different calls. Blackbird, wren, wood pigeon, robin. This really was a very special place to live – if only she could remember to stop and appreciate it a bit more often".
Alice has been brought up by her dad and he’s very protective of her, together they run a small vineyard which needs some upgrading. Alice’s ex boyfriend Warren was in charge of the building works and he has made a complete disaster of them, paying no heed to the original plans. Alice meets Jake and his cute dog Basil and he sounds like he could be just the man she was looking for, for her building work of course or he may be the man of her dreams. The planned Knit One Pour One may have to be cancelled or will it go ahead? Loved the idea of the Knit One Pour One even though I can’t knit and it was lovely that an old favourite from Seabury popped into this story. Can’t wait to read what’s next for the residents of Upper Bamton.
Another perfectly lovely novella from Beth Rain! There are delightful characters, including the dog, who bring this story to life. The descriptions of the vineyard and river make you feel like you are there. I strongly recommend this book - I smiled all the way through it!

Absolutely magical. I love the way Beth describes the villages and characters in her books is just magical.
I love Alice and the unexpected visitor (no spoilers here) and Alice's dad Arthur, such a love father draughter connection.
I really loved the pace of this book, the context too is on par with Beth's other books too.
Its a cosey feel book with drama and excitement to boot and I loved it. The fact that it has a knitting group in is a bonus too because I am an avid crafter.
I cannot wait to read more about Alice and Arthur's antics.
I really enjoyed this story. It showed the loving relationship Alice had with her father and how her relationship with Jake developed. It was nice to see Lionel appear in the book after hearing him mention his friend growing vines when he opened up the restaurant in the hotel.
This little story made my heart sing, memories of living and restoring our home when we got married and having a couple of children. The Countryside is still the same all pulling together. Just like this beautiful uplifting book.
Love how the characters are developing. It's so easy to read. Once you start, you won't want to put it down. I'm looking forward to the next installment.
