Rate this book
Get better sleep for the whole family—from birth—with gentle, proven tips, tools, and techniques from The Sleep Lady®

Sleep training isn’t recommended until your baby is 6 months old, but that doesn’t mean you’re powerless to help them (and you) sleep better now.

For the past three decades, Kim West, known around the world as The Sleep Lady®, has personally helped over twenty thousand families gently teach their children how to fall asleep—and fall back asleep—without leaving them to cry it out alone.

Now, in The Sleep Lady®’s Gentle Newborn Sleep Guide, she offers gentle, research-backed, easy-to-remember and easy-to-apply ways to help your newborn sleep. In month-by-month chapters that are easily digestible (even in the middle of the night!), West and her Gentle Sleep Team share:

• The key developmental milestones from birth through 5 months, and how they impact your baby’s sleep
• F.A.S.T. (Feeding, Attachment and Soothing, Sleep, and Temperament) strategies specific to each age
• Safer co-sleeping guidelines
• Stories from real families
• Ample advice for parents of twins
• Plus, what you need to know to make sure you’re taking care of you, too!

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by conflicting advice on sleep training, nap coaching, sleep schedules, and more. The Sleep Lady®’s Gentle Newborn Sleep Guide provides clear guidance and a safe haven free of judgment, guilt, and criticism for parents seeking options that align with their parenting values and beliefs.

Raising a newborn doesn't have to be a sleep-deprived nightmare. Trust your instincts. Learn how to read and respond to your baby’s cues with confidence. And finally get a good night’s sleep.

Kim West has done it again - she has written a book for parents who want to help their new baby
(and themselves) achieve the best sleep possible using gentle, developmentally appropriate strategies during those early months when the skill of independent sleep is still out of reach for them. She guides families through the different stages of their infant's development and gives helpful tips as to how to set them up with a solid sleep foundation. She has put it into a very digestible format even for new tired parents. I LOVE this book!!! It is a gift I will be giving to every expectant family in my world ~ Thank you Kim!!!!! Once again you have provided a guide to take the rough edges off one of the most challenging aspects of early parenting...sleep (or the lack of)!

Kim West, The Sleep Lady, has done it again! This book is so chock-full of helpful tips to guide parents with a newborn from birth through five months. This book provides simple yet effective advice on helping your newborn get sleep. I love how each chapter addresses the various months and focuses on feeding, attachment, soothing, and temperament. And the book not only helps you with your newborn’s sleep, it also talks about the parents’ self-care, which is so vitally important so you can be the best parent you can be. I will recommend this book to all my family, friends, and clients who are expecting or who already have a newborn. This is a must read book. A great addition to any parent’s library! Tina Anderson

This Brilliant Book is so simplified in a way that its so easy for moms that are overwhelmed with a new baby and needs quick help and answers, i like how you can use the book in a free way and you can read your Child's month and go back to it easily without loosing track!
the methods used are so gentle on both baby and mother and are preparatory steps for the sleep training starting at age 6 months making it a smooth start for later as it helps to gently implement habits and routines gradually !

Here is another gem from the amazingly helpful and resourceful Kim West (aka The Sleep Lady).
I wish it was out there when I had my little one 2.5Y ago.
A very detailed, yet reassuring and gentle approach to accompanying very little ones through their sleep journey.
The excellent collaborations + extensive research on the subject make the book even more "powerful" and valuable.
Can't recommend it enough to basically anyone who has a newborn in their life.
A must read...

My first impression of this book is highly favorable. I like the approach to sleep with the the follow your intuition encouragement and all the valuable and various subjects covered. Since it is written as a guide and a reference resource with the by-the-month chapter configuration, it will be often picked up and reread in each needed moment as different baby challenges are met.

I’m an auntie and got this for my sleep-deprived cousin. It’s the BEST!

My cousin is having a lot of struggles getting her 2-month-old to sleep. He’s fussy and up all night, so I saw this book and immediately ordered it for her. She wants a no-crying-it-out solution. Because it’s painful to watch your baby wail for so long.

I LOVE that this book is organized into chapters that talk about the month of the baby. It will be a resource my cousin can use for a long time. Also, her attention span is pretty short these days (no sleep will do that to you), so she can read what she needs, set the book down, and come back to it.

I got it for her in audiobook too so her husband can listen on his commute. Perfect for new parents. Excited to see how she does.

I glanced through this book, and it seems like some helpful ways to get your baby to sleep better. It will be interesting to see if the tips actually work out. I hope it will help the new mom to be that I plan on gifting this to.
