My father sold me to a demon prince… but the monsters who rescued me are even deadlier.
For a witch without magic, marrying into a prominent coven was supposed be my greatest honor—and the only way to clear my father’s massive debt. But when my groom turns out to be a demon in disguise, I stab him at the altar and flee…
Straight into the arms of New York’s most notorious mobsters.
JJude, the charming but brutal psychopath. Augustine, the devilishly handsome conman. Rook, the cunning spy and hacker. And Draegan, the fearsome boss who rules his underworld empire with an iron fist.
People call them the men of shadow and stone—untouchable and unbreakable—but I know better.
They’re not men at all.
They’re gargoyles.
Ancient. Ruthless. Possessive. Way more seductive than I care to admit.
Now that I’m under their protection, they’ve vowed to take down my enemies.
Sarah Piper is a witchy, Tarot-card-slinging paranormal romance and urban fantasy author. Through her signature brew of dark magic, heart-pounding suspense, and steamy romance, Sarah promises a sexy, supernatural escape into a world where the magic is real, the monsters are sinfully hot, and the witches always get their magically-ever-afters.
Readers have dubbed her work “super sexy,” “imaginative and original,” “off-the-walls good,” and “delightfully wicked in the best ways,” a quote Sarah hopes will appear on her tombstone.
Originally from New York, Sarah now makes her home in northern Colorado with her husband (though that changes frequently) (the location, not the husband), where she spends her days sleeping like a vampire and her nights writing books, casting spells, gazing at the moon, playing with her ever-expanding collection of Tarot cards, binge-watching Supernatural (Team Dean!), and obsessing over the best way to brew a cup of tea.

The heroine:Westlyn - she is a witch who doesn’t have any magic, so the most she can aspire to is in an arranged marriage that will take care of her father’s gambling debts. She is supposed to be marrying into a large and influential coven, and it is the last thing she wants to do. Especially when her father doesn’t even bother to come see her before the wedding.
The Hero:Jude, Augustine, Rook, Draegan (a.k.a. The men of shadow and stone) - They live a cursed immortal existence as gargoyles. The feds have been after them since a botched hit job, so they have been on a tight leash lately. Jude is the psycho, he is reckless and impulsive and loves to fight, though if something is worth the wait, he has infinite patience. Augustine is the conman and has a way with the ladies, his good looks help with that. Rook is a highly intelligent hacker and a renowned spymaster. Drae is the oldest of the guys, and the boss of the criminal underworld they all belong to.
The Story: The guys know if they don’t break the curse within the next two months, they will be trapped forever in their statue forms rather than just turning to stone when the sun is out. Jude has been watching/stalking a girl who always stares out her bedroom window at night. He wants her more than anything since the moment he first laid eyes on her in the city, especially when she pleasures herself while sitting at the window late at night.
I liked the premise of this book/series, and I am fond of the paranormal reverse harem and I absolutely love gargoyles. They are such a non-standard paranormal and how can you not like guys that are made of stone. The curse on the guys was a powerful combination of dark fae and demonic magic and the unmaking of that curse is said to be extremely dangerous.
The wedding is great. Though Jude isn’t there, the rest of the guys feel something the minute they lay eyes on Westlyn and vice versa. Then when she discovers the groom is really a demon, she stabs him and runs before she can be bound to him and to hell like her father and his father planned for her. She said she would rather die before completing the binding. That is when she comes across the gargoyles and things start to get a bit crazy from there.
This book was told in multiple points of view via dual narration, and was narrated by Vanessa Edwin, Shane East, Aaron Shedlock, and Aiden Snow. Love this cast of narrators. Some of my favorites. Vanessa Edwin has a very pleasant and youthful feminine voice which fits Westlyn well and she is great at portraying emotion through her voice. Shane East as Jude has a bit of a cockney accent in this one, and he has such a nice smokey voice. Aaron Shedlock has a very nice, masculine, matter of fact type of voice which lends itself well to any type of character and Aiden Snow has a deep, super sexy voice that I could listen to all day.
There was something about this book/the writing that simply did not mesh well with me. It felt like the author expected me to already know the world she was working in without actually telling me anything about it. I didn't look too deep into this series before starting it so maybe I missed that there was a series before this that I should have started with instead?
The first 30 or so minutes of this book were just the 4 guys talking and everything they said went entirely over my head. Their POV's were the worst parts of this book. I would have rather had the story be told only from the heroine's POV. Also, why did we need 4 different male narrators? If I'm being honest they all sounded the same anyway. Why not make this a full-cast situation where the narrators cut into each other as the dialogue progresses?
I'd also like to mention how the chemistry between the heroes and the heroine was nowhere to be found. All their interactions were just awkward and strangely off-putting. It was weird to say the least. I don't think I'll be continuing on in this series.
4.6 stars. Yep. Yep. I’m totally into this. Hopefully the rest of the books in this series keep the same pace and vibes and smuttyness…or ramp them up, either way. Im so down.
A witch with no powers meet her gargoyle mates at her arranged marriage- yes I was hooked! Did not like cliffhanger but still a good story and will continue the series!
Scrummy Delights Await – A Completely Biased Review
Why is my review biased? Because I flipping love Sarah Piper’s writing to an extreme and her narrator choices for this series is part of an A+ dream cast for me! So, knowing all of that when I say this was a fab hook to a series – I do truly mean it!!!! Thirty-nine chapters is not enough for me to hear Westlyn’s story. I need to know everything that happened in her life as she I identify with her and want to be best friends at the same time.
Her life has led to being a bride upon an altar of arranged marriage right at the start of the book - and nothing gets a heart pumping like having to stick a knife into the groom because the ceremony is really going badly. Escaping onto the roof, no way out but down and amazing character steps up and literally flies her to safety…or maybe Westlyn isn’t safe after all????
Sarah has a way of laying out each character for you to meet and fall in love with that always surprises me, especially now that I’m madly in love with a set of GARGOYLES!!! Each individual has a personality all their own but connects so well to the other Harem members. You see not only the brotherhood between the men, but how each is going to bring something unique to fulfill Westlyn’s needs. Oh, and do they fulfill her needs with the utmost scorching dialogue ever.
Delivering that dialogue is an extremely talented cast that couldn’t have been better picked, so bravo to the casting producer. Westlyn is Vanessa Edwin, who also portrays the suspected sinister stepmother Eloise so well you really do want to despise her. With every role Vanessa completes, we get her strong-willed heroine, but her take on the male voices is just exquisite acting, too! Aiden Snow as Augustine is wonderful & makes me want to hop in the kitchen for whatever he wants me to devour. Aaron Shedlock gives the perfect #GeekAaron for Rook whose IT, security, and academia persona makes me want to stay in his library forever. Then there is the character actor king Shane East as both psychotic enforcer Jude and in charge leader Draeden, aka “Daddy Drae” who I’m going to keep forever and ever & cannot wait to hear more from him in the rest of the series. The soliloquy of a torture scene from our favourite henchman is a reason for repeat playing as it’s just Anthony Hopkins level acting you cannot help but love it!
Sarah leaves us hanging at the end of the book, which I’m okay with because I appreciate a well-written cliffhanger. Something that makes you beg for a next page is difficult to write and she gives us this amazing feeling at the end of Wicked Conjuring. Bring on Wicked Awakening quickly please!!!
ALC review - fantastic beginning to a thrilling hot as sin RH romance. Who would have thought gargoyles could be so sexy? Apparently Sarah Piper did and between psychotic Jude, barely restrained Daddy Drae, nerdy Rook and charming sexy Augustine, Westlyn has her hands full! Vanessa’s witch narration is sexy, snarky and tough as nails. Love her and love that she does not need saving. She saves herself and I cant wait to see her grow and come into her strength in the next part of the story. Can we talk about the gargoyles now? I think this might be Shane East’s and Aiden Snow’s first collaboration but they made all my kink dreams come true. Holy mother of Hades can we just have them narrate everything going forward? You wouldn’t think whispered growls were a thing but they managed it! Aaron Shedlock didn’t have a lot of chapters but i can tell his character’s waters run very deep. Nerd power unleashed and all that. Prepare yourselves for lots of heat while sitting at the edge of your seat because this is one heck of an unexpected ride! Bravo Sarah Piper !
3.5 This book (volume) has potential, but is only the first part of a story. Seriously, it is like an introduction or prequel or the first couple chapters in a book even though it is marketed as a full book.
Westlynn is the MFC who has been cowed in life due to her mother's death in childbirth and for not possessing any magic. Due to this she finds herself the sacrificial lamb for her father's mistakes. Then we have the mmc's, the gargoyles. They were cursed years and years ago by the dark fae and have been trying ever since to break the curse and save their "people". Not much is known about this. By chance their worlds collide and this sheltered mf character is more than willing to quickly jump into sexy shenanigans with all of them (tongue in cheek) The book ends abruptly with zero resolution to any plotline presented.
It's an interesting world that Piper has begun to create and I'm excited to see where it goes. The audiobook narrators are top notch and I was able to pick the book up through my scribd subscription. I would caution against actually purchasing the book where it is in no way a full story / book. Had I bought this .... I would not have been happy!

Technically, this is a 4.5 for me! I read Sarah Piper's Blood and Midnight series and it was one of the most amazing series I have ever read! (Hudson is my #1 Book Husband!) Being someone who loves gargoyles, I have really high hopes for this series. This first book was good! The only things that held it back from being a 5 star was that it bounced from too much info/talking to the spicy scenes. This is technically not a complaint- but we didn't get the same amount of time with each of the gargoyles. However, based on the B&M series, I'm sure we'll get to them all and I am so excited for that. My prediction for Book Husband from this series.. I think I love Jude! But we'll see. The only other complaint- but I knew this was coming anyway- the main girl Westlyn is living her best life very quickly lol. The spice was very sudden I guess. Anyway, happy reading!
Do you ever read a book and think "Wow there's a new kink"??
Welp that's what happened this time for sure! I never thought horn and tail play would add into the things I find hot when it comes to smut...
First it was wing play in ACOTAR and now this book has added TWO new things.
AND THAT ENDING! Goddess, give me the strength to wait a month for book 2! I hope its audio too because I LOVED having a voice for each character! I can't decide who I like out of the men more... Time will tell.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE AUDIO BOOK! But I recommend the book in general. Absolutely fantastic!
While I did enjoy this book (it has engaging characters and an interesting plot), the cover is somewhat misleading - the fmc has no magical powers at this point in this series, and at no point is she dressed like that - she goes from a wedding dress to sweatshirts and yoga pants. That's all fine, but I feel like the cover of this book gives a very different vibe than what's inside.
liked it, the plot idea is awesome, but I somehow didn't truly connect to the characters. I'd have loved some more depth to the plot and side plots . did love how the powerless witch stood up for herself! 💜
What are ride! Haven’t read a gargoyle book in a while. Jude, that unhinged psychopath definitely carried the story for me; but honestly, I like all of them. This book definitely set up for the rest of the series.
I listened to the audiobook and that last sentence at the very end almost took me out!!!
P.S. The word ‘loincloth’ needs to be removed from all dictionaries and never be uttered again. Like why is that thing even needs to be in a modern day book 😩
*ALC Review* I had an immense book hangover after The Witch's Monsters series. But, luckily Sarah has pulled me right back into a fascinating world of dark magic, secrets, mysteries, betrayal, deception, and of course... gargoyles galore!
Westlyn has plenty of deep secrets and scars. Despite growing up with a deadbeat dad and Eloweasle, the evil, power grabbing stepmother barging into their lives only a few years earlier, Westlyn is strong, kind, thoughtful, and nuturing. She's a vegan and so cares for her raven friends that they've got her back, always. When she begs for a someone to rescue her from her life and the arranged marriage she's about to be forced into, little does she know she's about to get FOUR someones!
Jude, Augie, Rook, and Drae are powerful players in New York real estate and take their protection of the city's gargoyles, still bound in stone, very seriously. They will bribe, blackmail, and bludgeon anyone who gets in their way. Jude is the psycho I didn't know I needed. Augie is the flirty chef I've always wanted. Rook is the nerdy geek I feel a profound kinship with. But, Drae is the stern Daddy I want punishing me at the end of the day!
Vanessa Edwin is undeniably brilliant as Westlyn. She can be bratty, sexy, sweet, and funny all at once. Aiden Snow is the perfect Augie, with his rumbly laugh and teasing tones. Aaron Shedlock brings to technological genius, Rook, a sweet vulnerability and dry sense of humor. Last, but certainly not least, Shane East performing Jude AND Drae is beyond phenomenal. I was not prepared for the raw emotion and sheer power he brought to them both. OMG, he OWNS the sexy, menacing whispering game and I will never be the same.
Westlyn has had a very rough life. She has a deadbeat dad, evil step mom and is a witch with no active powers. She is forced to marry a man she doesn’t know and runs away from her wedding when she meets Jude, August, Rook and Drae. Well, Jude has met her before and has been not so secretly keeping tabs on her ever since he met her in the park one time! I love her guys sooo much! I can’t wait for the next book!
I'm a huge fan of Sarah Piper's books but as with all new series, there is always a bit of hesitancy about whether the plot will pull me in. This book was amazing from the very first chapter! I was cheering for Westlyn, the FMC from the very start. She is a strong, independent thinking, gentle hearted animal lover who knows how seduce even the most psycho of gargoyles. What's not to love? And her gargoyles, Jude the psycho, Augustine the playboy and Drae who gives off silver fox vibes... Let's just say their naughty words and skillful tails will definitely leave you begging for more.
But ultimately the true test of a great book is the plots ability to keep you guessing and my god I had so many moments of pure shock that I honestly couldn't even begin to predict what will come next. And THAT is why I can't wait for the next book! Great job Sarah Piper!!!!!
WOW, this book was a fantastic read. From the moment that I started I could not put it down. I ended up reading it in one sitting. There was no escaping it till the last page was read. It moves along at a really great pace that works perfect for the story. You will love these characters and you want to be there for them, no matter what happens. The story grabs you and keeps you interested and reading until the end. This book needs to be on your TBR list, you will not be sorry that you did.
Wicked Conjuring is so freaking good. Sarah Piper has a way of getting you invested from the first chapter. West is a runaway bride who is saved by 4 sinfully seductive Gargoyles. Jude is the bad boy you can't help but fall for. Augustine is the charmer who can make me waffles any day. Rook is the sweet geek with a heart of gold. Daddy Drae is the fearless leader who's got the BDE down. Book 1 sets up the characters and storyline for the rest of the series. It kept my interest from start to finish. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book!
I pre-ordered the audiobook. Vanessa Edwin is a queen. I love every performance from her. Shane East voices Jude and Drae, and whew. There's no comparison when it comes to spicy scenes. He's the best. Aaron Shedlock voices Rook, and I don't know why it's taken me this long to listen to his narrations. He's a great performer. Aiden Snow voices Auggie, and a new voice for me. I can hear why all the ladies love him.
Book one in the new Gargoyles series by Sarah Piper. I don’t even know where to start with this amazing book the narration is absolutely amazing especially the fantastic English accents as always by the amazing Shane East, Vanessa Edwin, Aaron Shedlock, and Aiden Snow. The only thing I found was when the other narrators took over they really cannot do a cockney accent and this didn’t ruin but sounded a bit weird it’s a shame they didn’t do their own accents in the book, so Vanessa Edwin does female and Shane East does English and Aaron Sherlock/Aiden Snow does American and so on. Sarah Piper is famous for cliffhanger books and to be honest I do hate these types of books but it keeps you absolutely hooked and I really hope that the second one comes around very quickly cause I may die of desperation before it comes out. Absolutely love this writer and the narrator she chooses as they’re always amazing and compliment books so well can’t wait for the next one
DNF at 1%. I don’t like the horny gargoyle who starts narrating this book. I think overly sexual descriptions of what he wants to do with a stranger just turns me off.
NOUUUUU oké ik heb het boek uitgelezen en was ik verast over de inhoud?? Nee. Maar nog steeds dit shook me to the core. Sorry maar ik wil gewoon niet 4 fucking GARGOYLES (waterspuwers) die obsessed met me zijn? Waarvan eentje letterlijk me stalkt en een psychopaat is. Sorry not Sorry not into that.
After Sarah Piper's The Witch's Monsters series, I've had gargoyles on the brain. You really don't find too many books predominantly focused on gargoyles, although I've seen a few popping up lately, and I'm very glad about it. I have a feeling this series is going to be just what I need.
Sarah Piper always does such a great job creating her storyline, and this one, from what I've read so far, is going to be amazing. Connection upon connection woven into the backgrounds of Westlyn and the gargoyles is something that really drew me in. The mystery behind it all and the "why" about absolutely everything makes you want to continue reading. I love seeing how all the pieces begin to fall together as the characters discover new information about their pasts and Westlyn's heritage. We've just seen the tip of the iceberg in this book but I have a feeling there is so much more beneath the surface.
I had so much fun reading about these characters. Westlyn is such a great fmc and I loved that she was much more than people perceived her to be. For someone who didn't have the best life growing up because of her lack of power, she has such a beautiful heart. I loved her connection to her ravens and how they were able to help her through such a hard time in her life. When everyone else ostracized her or antagonized her, the ravens were there for company.
The gargoyles, Drea, Augustine, Rook, Jude were an interesting bunch. There was a ton of variety in their personalities and it made you question how they were able to tolerate each other for so long. But, I really appreciated how different they were. Psychotic, quiet, flirty, and commanding, you really get it all with this bunch. In their gargoyles forms, they are all so similar that the personalities are what will help you differentiate between them while reading. Human form makes it easier to tell them apart physically but for the most part, they are in gargoyle form in this book.
I look forward to continuing Westlyn's story and finding out more about why she is so important to the mages, demons, and gargoyles. For someone who was deemed powerless and worthless, she sure seems to be a coveted woman.
So this was a fantasy come true with an audible to melt my earbuds! The dream cast of the narrators -Shane East, Aaron Shedlock, Adien Snow. and Vanessa Edwin- bring to life the paranormal, fantasy with witches, demons and GARGOYLES!!!! Sarah Piper writes such amazing characters and a magical plot that sucks you in at the first line! It's almost like she wrote the words with the narrators in mind. The steamy scenes are HOT HOT HOT. I am anxiously waiting for the end of July for book 2. Hopefully books 3 and 4 follow soon. I am already addicted to the series.
Just so you know... there is a reverse harem story as well as a cliffhanger. I usually do not read the latter and rarely the former. This book is both and SOOO worth it.
This is the best. This is amazing. I LOVE THIS! Why isn't everyone on BookTok freaking out about this book?? This is what The Never King/Vicious Lost Boys WISHES it were. I feel like Stefon, This. Book. Has. EVERYTHING. A solid and interesting plot that I could follow but wasn't telegraphed and that I was legit interested in. WItty banter between characters - for REAL laugh out loud moments in a character's conversations as well as in their POV thoughts. An fmc who isn't just a c*m dumpster, but a whole ass person with layers and she's FOR REAL funny and witty and button pushy and weird and just HERSELF with a whole voice unlike anyone else. All of the perfect main male character tropes - unhinged stalker psycho who unalives people for you, himbo cinnamon roll who takes care of you, control freak leader who helps you reach your big goals, and the sweet nerdy quiet one who helps you figure everything out... and ALL Of them protect you and make you have lots of orgasms because ALSO ALL OF THE SPICE!!!!
Wicked Conjuring was the first time in a while that I kept looking at the little indicator in the corner of my Kindle screen, to see how far into the book I was, and wishing that it was 10% instead of 40%.
I am obsessed with Jude, Rook and Augustine (more than 'Daddy Drae' which creeped me out a little), but I think the potential of a good narrative is here, and I can't wait for the next book - Thursday better roll on quickly by!
