I was so ready to like this. Especially because Cat really excited me. I loved how fiery, confident, self-assured and dedicated she was. She fought to break the glass ceiling and give women a place in mariachi music. And Patricio was so supportive of her and her goals, it was really nice to experience. But the overall story was just predictable and slightly flat. I wasn't swept away - not even a bit. So while the characters really thrilled me, I need more than that to enjoy a book.
ARC provided by the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
Catalina and Patricio are a perfect Pair of fire and music. Both have an innate drive to prove themselves, not only to their respective families, but themselves too. When they are paired together to go on your, sparks and emotional baggage fly. I love Priscilla Oliveras ability to mix family connection with music and culture and love. The Capuleta family is a headstrong group of support that never fail to back their own when needed. This story was filled with life lessons of finding your own way, and breaking down barriers to let love in, LOVED LOVED LOVED THIS!!! So happy and grateful for this NetGalley advanced copy. This is a must read that will fill the soul !
I absolutely adored this book and can’t wait for it to hit the shelves! I felt like I was watching a telenovela, in the best way possible. Catalina is on tour with Mariachi heartthrob Patricio Galán… and let me tell you, he certainly IS a galán. Cat is very determined to prove herself in the industry, and that means no funny business while on tour! She can’t mess up a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, but she also doesn’t want to break a promise her and her sister made before the Capuleta family took them in as little girls. Patricio is all business too, at least that’s what he tries to tell himself but every time he sees the passion in Cat’s eyes, her stubborn personality, and the beautiful outfits she wears… well, it’s hard to take his mind off the leading lady.
Honestly, it took me a while to get through this book because I didn’t want it to end. I don’t always get pulled into a book the way I did by this one, feeling the characters become real people to me. Great banter, good writing, and a tension-filled dynamic that had me turning each page a little slower (I reread a lot of those scenes 🤭).
This was a fun and entertaining read! I was completely immersed in the Latinx culture in this book, it's hard not to be! The language, the music, the food, the family! But most of all Cat and Patricio together was a fiery force! Slow burn romance where the guy falls first and all this chemistry build up! We get it here. Not only do these two entertainers shine on stage and light sparks together, they battle their own demons in a very realistic way that makes you feel connected to them. Really enjoyed the themes on this book!
This was the first ever book I read by this author and I have to say I enjoyed it immensely! The sense of family, the love of food and the love of music was so well brought to life. The romance had me from the moment it got going, which is always important! The story didn’t fall into any cliches that would have bothered me, it was just a sweet sort of enemies-to-lovers story which put a big smile on my face!
Such a fun, fiery, and flirty story! Cat is now one of my all-time favorite leading ladies. Her tenacity is so amazing. Imagine being a newbie in the music industry and still having the audacity to stand up to the big men and fighting for what is right. GAH! I love her. I love that she made Galan loose his tongue (we would say that in Spanish for anyone that has their daylight shocked out of them) They're dynamic is so fun and flirty. I love that Cat used to crush over him and is now singing and songwriting with him. I love creative couples in their element creating art together. The thread of family is still important in this novel, making family proud, and making your wins, everyone's wins is also a beautiful element to this book! I loved it so much!
Those who know me know I'm not a romance reader, like, at all. But all I needed was some mariachi to push me over the edge. Yes, we enjoy Vicente Fernández in this household
I really enjoyed this (high praise from a dead inside like myself!!!) ! Nice story, some slow burn but not painfully so, closed door but with enough other description to stay spicy. 👀 At times the bilingual writing felt a little clunky, but mostly it was fine, however if you don't know any Spanish it might be a little tough but it's essential for the story.
And the Shakespeare references! Great twist
Really really enjoyed. Now I gotta get my boyfriend to sing Bésame Mucho outside my window...
Another cover I loved but this one I didn't love as much. I found the drama a bit over the top. I liked the Catalina but I found the plot predictable and the love story almost eye-roll frustrating. I wish I'd liked it more.
A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.
I read the first book in this series (West Side Love Story) earlier this year and thought it was really well written with lots to enjoy. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this second novel by Priscilla Oliveras. New readers do not need to read the first book, West Side Love Story, to enjoy this latest book though. It works well as a standalone novel and you will not feel lost with in the story or characters at all as this book has it’s own set of independent characters and it’s own plot.
The thing that caught my eye about this one (besides having read the first book and the author) was of course the beautiful cover and the promise of a unique and untold story. I love that Mariachi plays a big part in these books. It feels like something new and different with a lot of cultural flavor and I loved the sound of a romance formed on the road as part of a Marachi tour.
This is my second book by Oliveras and I was not disappointed. I am eager to pick up other books by this author but this series has been a real delight to read. I know she has written some other standalone novels, a couple of which have been on my radar for quite some time, all of which have been fan hits so if you are looking for your next read you might want to check her out as well as this book, because I liked this one even better than West Side Love Story!
Any time I see things in the summary like ‘no woman gets under XXXXX skin like XXXXX’ I instantly get so excited. I love the enemies to lovers trope because I think it adds so much chemistry to the story and I just know that I will love it. So when I saw something similar in this summary I was even more excited to read it! And through out the book the chemistry between Cat and Patricio (Galan) was satisfactory! I loved them together and I felt like their chemistry was only enhanced by the enemies to lovers troupe. They each have some emotional baggage to sort out but their passion and desires come together really well in this book and I felt super connected and invested in their romance and of course their individual careers within the book too.
In addition to the wonderful chemistry between the characters, I really liked how much culture was represented in this one. I loved the music references along with the customs unique to the Hispanic culture. I felt the same with the other book in this series, and I just love the authenticity and dedication to representation within her books. I felt like I was in a telenovela with all the drama and excitement as well we the rich culture of the Mexican people. I absolutely loved this book for that reason (among many others!). If you are looking for a book that has rich culture and an excellent depiction of mariachi and the Mexican culture this is a fantastic option for you!
As I mentioned earlier, I really liked the first book in this series but that I liked this one even more. Both are great books but this one felt more relaxed and confident in a way that West Side Love Story was not. West Side Love Story was a solid start to the series, but I felt like we needed to explore the family dynamics more for it to really jive, but this book things felt more flushed out and developed. The chemistry was better, the backstory and progression of both Cat and Patricio’s careers within the mariachi world was better and this one just overall felt more confident and less constrained by the classic Romeo and Juliet angle. This was an excellent read and I am looking forward to more books from Oliveras in the future!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.".
Priscilla Oliveras has done it again with Kiss Me, Catalina one of my new favorite authors. When I was younger my dad would always play mariachi waking me up I didn't appreciate the music until I got older.
This book was a fast read and I could connect to the characters 5 Star read 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Thanks Netgalley for a arc copy of this book for a honest review
I really enjoyed this book! Cat and mariachi hunk Patricio, from West Side Love Story, are on tour together. Cat is tenacious and fixated on her goals, but the chemistry she and Patricio feel is obvious to audiences and everyone else. What will happen when the excitement of touring is over? Will they be able to continue their romance? I recommend this book, 4 stars
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed as in this review are completely my own.
Kiss Me, Catalina” is the second novel in the “Queens of Mariachi” series by Priscilla Oliveras and focuses on twenty-eight-year-old Catalina “Cat” Capuleta as she advances her musical career by being a singer-songwriter for international mariachi singer thirty-one-year-old Patricio Galan and falling in love during the journey.
The novel consists of twenty-five chapters, acknowledgments, and a blurb about the author.
The novel begins with where the previous novel “West Side Love Story” left off with Catalina “Cat” Capuleta being approached to sign a music contract with Padua Records and going on a seven-week concert tour to work as a singer-songwriter for global superstar singer Patricio Galan. By singing the contract, Cat will be leaving Mariachi Las Nubes, a mariachi group consisting of her sisters. Cat doesn’t like Patricio and views him as arrogant and someone used to getting his own way and immediately challenges Patricio by saying she is he’s not lucky to work with him, he’s lucky to be working with her due to a recent writing slump. Thought she was a fangirl of Patricio in the past, Catalina decides to maintain a professional relationship when interacting with him.
Patricio admires Cat’s talent and determination but feel he shouldn’t bring first timer Cat on tour with him since she is headstrong and is new to the music industry. In addition, Patricio’s is experiencing writer’s block and is contending with his producer and friends worried especially when they suggest he bump his new album release date. Family wise, Patricio has a surface level relationship with his mariachi superstar father, Vicente Galan, which has crumbled to only appearing together for public appearances. Unbeknownst to Cat, Patricio envies the warm family life that Cat has with her two parents and nine sisters.
As the novel progresses, Patricio feels that he has to protect Cat from the harsh life on the road and finds an equal in Catalina who is ambitious yet sassy. Patricio keeps his true self hidden from his fans, but Cat eventually breaks down his defenses. Although Patricio is talented, he has worked to never outshined his domineering famous father. Cat is impressed by Patricio’s ability to not speak against his father, despite his father publicly expressing displeasure at Patricio’s selling out in his music by making a pop album instead of sticking to traditional mariachi music. Although Patricio is initially worried the Cat will not fare well against paparazzi, she quickly shows that she is more than capable of taking care of herself and any verbal attacks.
Cat maintains connection with her family by having weekly family dinner via FaceTime. During a virtual family dinner, Cat is shocked to learn that Blanca is having a secret relationship with a mariachi singer which is directly breaking a promise that she and Blanca made to each other when they were younger.
Professionally, Cat decides to shake up the traditional male dominated mariachi world by choosing to wear pants when performing at concerts instead of the stereotypical skirts expected to be worn by female mariachi singers. Cat’s wildest dreams come true as she has outfits designed by a long-admired fashion duo. Despite initial pushback about Cat performing in pants, she is able to convince the designers to support her choice with Patricio’s saying he’ll support her as well.
Witty banter between Patricio and Cat as well as perfectly blended voices makes them a fan favorite. Cat decides to put him in the friend zone for the sake of writing the songs for his new album and to advance her career.
Patricio’s big plan to succeed professionally while sabotaging Cat is quickly squashed due to growing love for her. Cat is surprised to find that being with Patricio helps her channel her wall anger at sister to create music. Once Patricio shares his secret about father and Cat feels vulnerable enough to share with Patricio about her birth parents.
When Cat and Blanca reunite in Las Vegas, Cat is surprised and angry her confronted by Blanca’s mariachi boyfriend and their absentee birth father Pedro. Cat feels betrayed by her younger sister and overwhelmed by the whole situation and flees from the scene. Patricio eventually finds Cat and helps her during the tense meeting with her sister and Pedro. Cat is apprehensive of meeting Pedro feeling that he only is contacting her due to her newfound fame. Although Blanca instigated the meeting with Cat, she is shocked when Pedro admits to knowing where that girls were but choosing not to contact them in order to give them a better life. Cat accepts that Blanca may want a relationship with Pedro and decides that he did her a favor by leaving her with the Capuletas and begins to make amends with him.
After the tour ends, Patricio and Cat finally give into their mutual attraction but Cat soon learns of an ultimate betrayal by Patricio. Although Patricio tries to explain the betrayal, Cat leaves Patricio behind. Patricio initially wants to chase down Cat to explain things but is stopped by Vicente with ulterior motives involving Cat. Betrayal by Patricio leads Cat to question get judgment in men and her life overall.
The novel ends with Cat returning to San Antonio to seek solace while Patricio works on apologizing to Cat by sending her flowers, donating to charity and organizations that matter to her the most, and making a heartfelt in person gesture.
Although the novel is predictable in that the reader knows that Patricio will eventually end up together, the question is more of how their relationship will transform from a working relationship to a romantic one.

My Thoughts: This is the second book in the series, where the first one focused on Mariana and this one is about Catalina. The first book was West Side Story, which I have but have not read, so now I want to go back and read it! This is a closed door romance, which I tend to like. The author did an amazing job at authenticating the Latin culture and customs. The characters are well developed, have layers of depth, sexual tension, chemistry, and felt real and authentic, I could relate to them both. The author’s writing style was complex, authentic, creative, and kept me engaged throughout the story, the overall writing, plot, supporting characters was amazing, and the ending perfect. The only potential drawback is that there were a few lines that was written in Spanish and I had to use google translate, however saying that, I still think it worked as it made me connect with the book more. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would definitely read more by this author. This book releases later this year, go preorder now!
"Blood, sweat, and tears. And a long-lasting rep lip stain."
To read Priscilla Oliveras' books is to know her. Oliveras has such a distinct voice and each time I read her books I am thrown into a vivid Latinx world filled with family, music, and lots of love. Kiss Me, Catalina, is the second book in the Queens of Mariachi series, but can be read as a standalone.
My favorite part of the book was Catalina. A confident spitfire, Catalina has a sharp tongue, but is an extremely hard worker with loads of dedication. Dying to prove herself in the music industry, she has a lot of responsibility on her shoulders, yet finds ways to stand up for women in the business and inspire others along the way. I loved how she wasn't a damsel in distress in need of saving, but a strong, independent woman ready to take on the world.
Patricio was Catalina's perfect match in every way. While Catalina is fighting her struggles, Patricio is silently fighting his own. The feeling of discontent with the music business has been slowing chipping away at him, giving him writer's block. But his relationship with Catalina allows Patricio to relax on stage and enjoy himself for the first time in awhile. I loved how he sees the true Catalina, not the facade she puts on for the public, and encourages her to stay true to herself.
The pair's flirty banter on point as they develop their romance through music. The sexual tension built quickly with the forced proximity and the pair's individual tough upbringings bond them quickly. I loved the positive light shed on mental health, especially Patricio championing therapy to help Catalina cope with coming to terms with her birth father.
Kiss Me, Catalina is a fade to black forbidden romance where he falls first. A special thanks to NetGalley and the author for the advanced copy.
I'm loving this series and this second book was amazing! And I love the cover too!
The series is very rich in culture, both Mariachi and Mexican, with a strong family and everything that revolves around them. We see the parents and all the sisters. Book 1 was about Mariana and this one is about Catalina.
We already know Catalina and Patricio from book 1 from the battle of the bands. She signs the contract to go on Patricio's tour and co-write songs with him, but things are not going well from the beginning with him hiding secrets. Their pasts come in the way but also help them come closer and be there for each other.
Can't wait for another story in this series!
I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
I’m a big fan of Priscilla and have read many of her books. Her writing is beautiful, engrossing, and fresh. Her characters and their families have found a home in my heart. Honestly, I’ve loved each of her books, but this is now my favorite. This charmingly written romance explores the deep passion between two people, the undeniable tensions that pull them apart, the love and pressure of family, and the relentless drive of the music industry. All that, plus Patricio and Catalina set the stage and the pages on fire—musically, emotionally, and with their red-hot chemistry. The last scene!! No spoilers, but read this book for that final, beautiful, heart-in-your-throat, tears-down-your-cheeks, smile-on-your-face scene. I adored every moment of this read. It put joy in my heart. And there is no better compliment than that for a romance. I can’t wait to read more about this family and these wonderful sisters. Next, please!
Obsessed with this series and the cover and the story. This book is steeped in Mexican culture, which is so lovely to see. I have loved everything this author has put out that I've read, so I was excited to read this as an ARC.
Feisty and unforgiving Catalina is signing record deal to work with famous Mariachi singer Patricio. As Cat is full steam ahead she vows not to let attraction get in the way of her music career. The more time Patricio and Cat spend together on tour and making music the more difficult it is to fight their feelings. Will Cat’s career go up in flames or will Patricio help her see not all mariachi singers are machismos? The book was a perfect blend of fun and steamy. I always enjoy learning about other cultures and traditions the book definitely makes the reader want to look up some mariachi music when finished!
Muuuuch better! Kiss Me, Catalina focuses on the younger sister of Mariana Capuleta and her road to becoming the next big singer/songwriter superstar alongside her angsty, brooding frenemy Patricio, the Marc Anthony of megastars. It picks up right after the events from Westside, Love Story, so make sure you check that book out first.
KMC was shorter in pages and more to the point. Oliveras did away with the overly curated details that took a life of its own in favor of keeping it short and sweet. The story was predictable, but still entertaining enough to keep you flipping pages. There is still back-door romance.
This book redeemed itself in the Queens of Mariachi series .
"Satisfaction swelled in Catalina Capuleta's chest like churro dough plopped into a pan of hot oil."

Kiss Me, Catalina swept me off my feet! Romantic and heartfelt, I adored Catalina and Patricio. I’m always a little nervous about the follow-up book in a series, but I had nothing to worry about here. While this is the second book in the Queens of Mariachi series, each one can be read as a stand alone. But I recommend reading them both! You won’t want to miss any of the Capuleta familia. It was so nice to jump right into this story, picking up mostly where the first one left off, familiar with the characters and setting, which allowed me to read for pure enjoyment.
Each novel in the Queens of Mariachi series is a reimagining of a William Shakespeare play and broadway musical. While West Side Love Story tackled Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story, Kiss Me, Catalina is inspired by The Taming of the Shrew, and therefore the musical Kiss Me, Kate. Unfortunately, I have never read or seen either of Kiss Me, Catalina‘s inspirations, so I had nothing to compare it to. But now I’m curious about checking out the source materials.
For a shorter book, Oliveras does a great job creating a slow-burn feel. I found myself cheering when these two finally managed to kiss, but there’s plenty of romance and steaminess leading up to the moment. For me, it’s just the right amount. No dragging out of the story, no slump in the middle, just enough build-up and then the well-earned climax and resolution. Perfectly paced.
Oliveras always impresses me with her characters. They’re well-rounded, flawed, and unique. I also love that Catalina and Patricio are so similar. They both have troubled pasts with their fathers, big egos, and stubborn rules about not dating fellow band members. I mean, come on! We all know that’s not gonna last!
In this book we get to travel with Catalina and Patricio on their tour buses, seeing parts of Texas as they perform in various concert venues—some that I’ve actually visited! And as they travel to Patricio’s beach house in Puerto Vallarta, the beautiful setting mirrors the blossoming romance. They wrap up their tour in Las Vegas, a place I’ve visited twice, which always helps books come to life even more for me. It’s part road trip book and part beach read, which are two of my favorite tropes.
Oliveras gives the readers a few scenes with the wonderful Capuleta family, and hints at who will be the focus in the next story, giving readers plenty to look forward to.
Priscilla Oliveras delivers another delightful and swoon-y romance, and I couldn’t help but unwind, becoming immersed in Kiss Me, Catalina!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you to Priscilla Oliveras and Netgalley for providing me with an advance copy.
I NEED THIS TO BE A MOVIE AND I NEED THE SOUNDTRACK.
I read “Kiss Me Catalina” on Kindle Unlimited and did a hybrid read. When I was cooking it was audio book and when I could finally get my hands free I was speed reading with my eyes. I highly recommend the audio book though. It was beautifully narrated and the pronunciations were spot on.
When I picked this up I was just looking for an audio book that I could enjoy when I couldn’t physically read. I didn’t know much and went in blind. I was not aware this was book 2 to a series. Whoops. Oh well, it’s really not needed. This could be read as a stand-alone.
This Mariachi romance blew me away. First of all the chemistry, passion, and tension between Catalina and Patricio was absolutely done right. That’s why I recommend the audiobook because it will have you squealing in excitement and rooting for the couple even more. I feel like I haven’t had a book boyfriend in a while so I’m super glad that my mind is flooding with Patricio. In my opinion, he was written so deliciously. Arrogant, flirty, and tender is MY TYPE. And I loveddd how Catalina threw that arrogance right back at his sexy smirks. Like yeah. Both of them have egos. I loved it. The banter was top tier. The romance was slow but holy smokes it was burning.
Not only did I love the great characters but the story. I loved that even though this was a romance, this book has substance! It had plot, complexity of latine families, it was diverse. This book made me proud to read about a strong Latina character who didn’t put up with anything. Gracias a Priscilla for writing a wonderful story about a romance but also a woman overcoming the machismo of the Latin music industry. If you’re a fan of Selena Quintanilla, Vicente Fernández, Luis Miguel then this is the book for you.
Catalina y Patricio on stage came alive through the pages and that’s hard to do in some romances. I can’t always imagine the background or setting. That’s not an issue you’ll have with the book. Oliveras writes as if she’s a song writer herself and makes you an active participant at their concerts. Bravo.
Amazing and so worth five stars. I will buy this copy once I get my hands on some cash.
TLDR : A very entertaining read that sucked me in. I ended up listening to hours of music while reading this book –mariachi classics which led to bachata, salsa and even tango. New favorites were discovered. New playlists were created. Incidentally, some Spanish was learned. Here’s my point : this is not just a novel but it’s an experience. I recommend.

“I messed up. But I’ll do everything and anything to make it up to you. Te quiero, Catalina Capuleta. Bésame. Bésame mucho.”
Catalina Capuleta gets the chance of a lifetime when she joins superstar heartthrob and fellow mariachi Patricio Galán on his concert tour. While Patricio may be a charming and handsome distraction, Catalina’s determined to keep her head in the game and use this opportunity to launch her career.
“Look, I know that all of this” —she motioned from her head down to her torso— “is hard to resist. And you—” She huffed out a breath as she jabbed an open palm at him. “Bueno, we both know you’ve perfected that swoony Latin-lover charm your fans adore. But it is wasted on me. Are we clear?”
I think the author did an amazing job with her characters. Catalina and Patricio were the best part of this book. She showed their hopes and desires, Catalina’s temper and need to prove herself (and her point), Particio’s loneliness and yearning for something more. I identified with some of these feelings which made them all the more compelling.
A couple warnings : While this book can be read as a standalone, considering it’s the second book in a series, I would suggest starting with West Side Love Story (the first book) to get better context. Also, this book is semi-closed-door : there are explicit scenes leading up to the main event which is closed-door.

Many thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publishing team for providing me with a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Kiss Me, Catalina was a cute, atmospheric read set in the world of mariachi. I loved the super unique setting and learning about all the culture that surrounds mariachi bands and performers. I didn't read the first book in this series, so I felt a little lost at times, but this was still a sweet, fun read.
There's a lot of things I really enjoyed about this book. One, the cover is amazing. There is also a great core family at the center of this book. I loved their relationship and how they pushed each other to be their best. I loved learning about mariachi music and tradition. I also appreciated the incorporation of Spanish into their dialogue. I've only taken high school Spanish but through context clues, I was usually able to figure out what was said. Finally, I liked the slow moving nature of the romance and how they got to know each other before jumping into a relationship.
Speaking of the characters... Cat had several positive qualities: her ambitious, talented personality, the way she fought for women in a male dominated field, her dedication to her craft and family; but at times she veered into extreme arrogance and had poor communication skills. Patricio started out super cocky but ended up really growing on me. He had an endearing, supportive personality and really personified the sexy, superstar mariachi performer. I liked them together. The break-up/make-up scene didn't add a ton to the book for me, but that's really my only quibble about their relationship.
This was a solid 3.5 star book for me. It was a cute, fast read that is perfect for anyone in the mood for an escape.
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the advanced e-book in exchange for my honest review!
I loved "Kiss Me Catalina" by Priscilla Oliveras! I loved the primary AND secondary characters, I loved the dynamics between them, I loved the plot, I loved the family aspect of the story, I loved the tour setting, I loved the music, and I loved the ending! Even though the story is predictable, I enjoyed just about every minute of this book. From the very first chapter, I was hooked! It's heartfelt, smolder-y, and full of pining with tons of Spanish culture and pride. I loved Oliveras's incorporation of Spanish language dialogue, traditions, and themes while also forging a new, more modern path forward for the main characters the strong-yet-stubborn Catalina and the established-but-creatively-blocked Patricio. Cat and Patricio start out as enemies but very soon find themselves yearning for one another. They have terrific banter with one another, and some of their dialogue is scandalously delicious. Their chemistry is off-the-charts and top-notch! So beautiful and well-written! Both of their character arcs are spectacular and fully formed. There is also a terrific focus on mental health, as well as the mental strain being a celebrity can cause. And the MARIACHI MUSIC! This book is chock full of la música!
This book is the second in a series, but I did not read the first book and was able to keep up with what was going on just fine. I cannot WAIT to read more books from the incredibly talented Priscilla Oliveras!
Thank you to NetGalley, Priscilla Oliveras, and Montlake for providing me with an ARC copy of this book! All opinions are my own, and I was not compensated for my review.
My Review: Kiss Me, Catalina by Priscilla Oliveras was my jam!
What made this story so fantastic was the chemistry between C and P. Every time they interacted, it was intense. They struck sparks off each other. From their first meeting to their last, they shared very strong emotions. Because they had certain rules in place, they did not want to go to the next level, but it was easy to see how difficult it was for them to abide by those rules. Their slow burn, high intensity romance was sweet and spicy and totally worth reading.
What I Loved about This Book:
- C impressed me with her strength, with her determination, and with her drive. She knew what she wanted from jump, and she wasn't afraid to go after it.
- P was a really good guy. Despite having grown up in the spotlight, he came across as humble. He genuinely seemed to want what was best for C and others.
- Although their pasts were negative, they connected through it in a monumental way.
- A cared about both C and P. He was a lovely father figure.
- The C family was beautiful in heart and in spirit. How they came together, how they supported each other, how they interacted, and how they protected one another was noteworthy.
- G was spicy himself. He had the audacity to say the quiet part out loud.
- The use of Spanish and English throughout the story made it more authentic and believable.

Ambitious San Antonio singer Catalina “Cat” Capuleta gets the chance of a lifetime when she joins superstar heartthrob and fellow mariachi Patricio Galán on his seven-week concert tour. Demanding and arrogant, Patricio challenges Cat on every level, as an artist and as a woman. But headstrong Cat is determined to be his match. When the duo hits the road, the sparks don’t just fly—they detonate. Will their road romance go up in flames? Or could making music together kindle the most rapturous love song of their lives?
Even in the first book, these two were already butting heads. Preparing to tour together wouldn't be easy but being professionals, they had to make it work.
Cat was always going on a tangent about the unfairness of the world. There was a lot against her: an absentee father, traditionalists in the Mariachi world, the public's perception of her because of her chemistry with Patricio. She was feisty, but bitter to some extent.
I loved how she warmed up to Patricio eventually. Once she sensed an under current of stress in him, she made sure to make him laugh with her witty quips. They had each other's backs when their burdens became heavy and unwanted people showed up. This definitely made it more than surface-level attraction.
The way Patricio grovelled in the end for messing up what he thought was a favour for her was sweet. Quite the enjoyable read this was 😄
Thank you so much to Montlake for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I really love so many aspects of this series! Reading about the sister dynamics, the characters balancing family vs. duty vs. love, and young women dominate the mariachi world was really enjoyable. The themes and characters in this book are both so compelling. I think overall, I enjoyed the romance in West Side Love Story more, but I still adore both Mariana and Catalina as characters. Their unwavering loyalty to protect their sisters and family as eldest daughters was really relatable, and I'm sure many other eldest daughters in immigrant families will say the same. The pacing of this novel, with the majority of the story taking place on tour, left me a little confused about the storyline, but I still enjoyed Patricio and Cat's dynamic. I'm curious to know if this series has any more upcoming books following the Capuleta sisters, and I'm excited to read the rest of Priscilla Oliveras' works now! 3.5 stars rounded up.
After reading West Side Love Story I knew I needed more Mariachi romances in my life. When I discovered the second book in this series was available I knew I had to immediately read it.
Kiss Me, Catalina follows Catalina Capuleta and Patricio Galán (a.k.a. El Prinicpe) a famous Mariachi artist. Both Catalina and Patricio are talented musicians and after Catalina is offered an opportunity to work with Patricio in writing songs for his next albums she feels as though her dreams and hard work are finally yielding results. As they tour and spend time together Catalina and Patricio find a lot more then they originally planned.
I loved this slow burn romance. I absolutely loved the female empowerment displayed and demanded by Catalina (especially as it pertains to the Latine/x community). I love Patricio’s gallantry and respect.he was a flirt and a bit cocky but not in a unlikable way. Their relationship was so sweet and you can’t help but root for them individually but also as a unit. I loved this book and the Mexican representation. I cannot wait to read more books following the Capuleta sisters and these swoon worthy men.
