Okay so a lot to say. First as a disclaimer no shade or hate towards this author. I want to say that this is just my personal opinion.

I am so glad I didn’t have to spend any money buying this book 😭 I listened to the audiobook of this and wow. The actual story/plot is trash. The “dark” part of this is literal incest between the main character Ivan and his sister Alisa. I know during the time period it takes place in is common for this to take place and happen. HOWEVER, the details this author gets in to it made it really hard to listen to. I mean that is the main romance for the entire book. I mean sure there is technically another love interest Juliet. However, she hardly shows up. For the first 6 hours of this book there is 0 vampires involved and is all backstory. I absolutely hate Ivan he has no actual character depth and is insufferable. Truthfully I have no idea what the purpose of this book actually is. That being said I listened to all 11 hours because the narrator for this book is 10/10 amazing. His voice helped me pull through😩

This story I felt was really slow getting started. I almost did not finish. That being said after three quarters of the book it started getting good. The beginning starts out telling you about Ivan and Alisa. It also brings in a witch that Ivan has feeling for. In the end we have Ivan turning into a Vampire and the story then starts to show interest to me. It is a good historical story with the background. So, you might want to try this book and see what your feelings are. No one sees all books the same, that being said give it a try you might love it. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I listened to this on my late summer holiday, and now I was supposed to write a review.

To be honest, I can barely remember the plot, just that I didn't like the main characters, and found it kind of boring.

I don't remember who narrated it either....

I've been dead for so long I whispered in her ear but if there’s anything left worth giving of my lifeless heart please know it belongs to you.
— Written in Blood (just forget that he says this to his sister)

The first half of the book is so boring and slow. Yes, the author is very detailed and descriptive. However, the first half is just about this man, Ivan hitting on his sister and them secretly sharing, romantic moments together as they travel around Europe. All the places are very pretty and the balls are divine. Halfway through the book, intriguingly Ivan gets drug into looking for a missing man, Ronaldo from his past. Then Ivan finally does it with his sister, Alisa then boom he gets turned into a vampire. Yay!! Action!

Who knew a demon like me could have a place in her heart…Aww Ivan!

Juliet is teaching him how to be a vampire and all the cool tricks he can do. She knows because she is a witch. Then he did the nasty with her. I love Juliet, really wish he just stayed with her. She loved him for all he was.

Him and his sister could never be together because they are siblings and he thinks if she learned he is a vampire she would hate the monster he has become. So he writes a letter for her to stay away. He likes Juliet because she loves him for all he is. Until he found a letter from Pritchard, it said he is to marry his sister and his mother is ill and Juliet hasn’t told him anything. He goes to see his mom but she already passed away. He goes to see his sister and she slaps him. He tells her he is a vampire and she doesn’t believe him! Too funny! She finally believes him and she feels empty for what he went through. He didn’t want her pitty so he ran away, wtf? He went back and she says she needs time to process what he’s taken months to process. Vampires are real and my brother is dead and is one now. Why doesn’t he just turn her? She says her heart is and always has been his. They run away together but before they go he visits his father one last time. His father blames him for the death of his brother and mother. He tells him he never wants to see him again and that he is cursed. He tells him he can’t take his sister from him and shoot him! He healed and he told his dad he doesn’t care what he does with his life but sister and him will never come back. Ohhh I would have killed him, so much self control lol

12 years later, they have been living together in London. Sibling lovers! One night Alisa asks him to turn her so they can actually be together forever. He tells her no but she talks him into it. Welcome to darkness! She is a vampire now! Out of control! Ripper! She lures them until feeding frenzy! She is a completely different vampire than Ivan, which they fought about many times. Ivan liked to select his victims based on how sinful they were. Alisa just ate whoever she wanted and risked them being caught. She also has angry issues. She is not the same girl he knew growing up.

They move to Paris and Ivan runs into Juliet who is beautiful as ever. Ivan and Juliet are in love with each other while Alisa is taking lovers and eating people like crazy. Juliet surrenders to Ivan. They do it, and he claims her as his. Then Alisa walks in on them and she’s madly jealous. She tells him to kill Juliet, or leave Paris and never come back. Ivan can’t leave his sister, so they head to Venice, which breaks Alisha’s heart. She told him she wouldn’t mind sharing him with Alisa. “I would share you with her if it meant keeping you by my side”. This is when I’ve even realized the extent of Juliet’s love for him, “Juliet loved me enough to sacrifice her own happiness”.

In Venice, Alisa and Ivan are still fighting. One day he is being hunted by another vampire, who turns out to be his old master Ronaldo, the man he was looking for all those years ago. We find out he was a prisoner on the island to the other vampires, and he witnessed Ivan taking his wife away to safety. He admits he killed all the other vampires on the island. Then he begs Ivan to kill him and says he’s proud of him for killing his brother. The pain of losing his human life is frustrating and he wants to die. He cannot bear the loss of his wife and daughter. he admit he’s been trying to kill himself. Ivan says he won’t kill him so he does the only thing he can think of in tries to attack Ivan when his maker, Dristan comes and kills Ronaldo. Dristan rips off his head! Dristan has already met Alisa and is disappointed in Ivan for turning her. He said it isn’t right. Ivan tells him well you left me, am I to be alone for all eternity? Dristan promises he won’t hurt her, but still doesn’t approve. They all live happily until Ivan gets a letter from a lawyer, stating he has Valentina. I haven’t goes to get her and find out. The lawyer has been harming her, and he saves her by killing the man, and then sets her up with a place of her own in Rome. He finally became a hero that he always wanted to be and that’s what took him on this journey to be becoming. A vampire was the sense of him wanting to be a hero.

When he returns home, he finds Dristan dead and Alisa gone. In Dristan’s and he sees the sapphire choker, he gifted to Alisa. She drank all of his creator’s blood making her a very powerful vampire. How could she do this? Was it a ploy this whole time? Did she ever love him? What will she do now? “The heart was a traitorous beast never to be relied upon”. She has betrayed him for the last time.

Ivan is truly alone now. With his maker dead and his love gone. He remembers Ronaldo’s words to him long ago, “take care of your heart little one it's much too pure and tainted hearts will always try and take advantage over yours”.

In the epilogue, we meet pure sweet Justine Devereaux.

Really makes you think about power. Ivan was watched his whole life and was chosen by Dristan to receive the darkness aka vampirism. Whereas Ivan turns his sister for selfish reasons just because he loves her and doesn’t want to be alone. He doesn’t look at her character or if she can handle it, so when she receives the darkness, she acts vengefully towards men and wants freedom. The darkness doesn’t change who you are. It lets your inner most desires become reality basically letting you be who you are deep down. I don’t think Ivan ever saw who Alisa really was.

Dark and Beautiful!

Where do I start? It's gonna be a challenge, I want to gush a fountain of spoilers! This book should be filed away under "Guilty Pleasures." Our hero, Ivan, is a field of wild oats, begging to be sown. While his sister Alisa, is the calm and the storm.
There were so many minor characters with unforgettable personalities, I found myself getting attached to every new person that popped up. (Except one, he knows who he is, and take it from me, he had it coming)
The writing style is solid. The author's style was passionate and fast paced, I sailed through this book... partly because of the pace, and partly because the drama and intrigue kept me hooked all the way through.
I especially appreciated all of the traveling in this book. I enjoyed taking a tour of London, Paris and Venice all from the comfort of my couch.
☆☆☆☆☆, I loved this book! Now if you'll excuse me, I have a sequel to buy.

Some people have complained about this book having a slow start because they know it's about vampires, and our main character, Ivan, doesn't turn into one until halfway into the book. The author did a great job developing characters in 17th century Europe to bring Ivan's origin story to life.

Some people also complained because they didn't know going into reading it that Ivan falls in love with his sister. This did not bother me because incest was "normal" back then. So, if that would be a trigger for you, then this book is not for you. This book is also fairly modest compared to what it could be. I give it one 🌶 for spice. I would also let my 16 year old read this book.

I read this in an audio version, and the reader did an excellent job. He had an English accent and pronounced the Italian and French that is in the book nearly flawlessly, which really added to the old world feel of the story.

Vampires are coming!

Excerpt from Written in Blood:

“It haunted me from a distance. Swathed in a thick veil of fog, with but a few old trees looming above, the island appeared desolated and dead.

An overwhelming sense of despair crept behind my neck as we reached the shore. Thousands of men, women, and children had been condemned to live the last of their days here, infected by the plague. Dragged away from their homes, here, they suffered their agonizing illness, shunned by society, exiled from everything they knew and held dear.”

Fans of Anne Rice and Cassandra Clare will love The Unnatural Brethren series!

YOU'RE MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS!!! Please read and pay close attention to the trigger warnings at the beginning of this book. There is some content and scenes in this book that are not suitable for all readers and could be triggering for others. Always remember that your mental health comes first at all times.

Tropes: Vampires, Fantasy, Paranormal, Historical, Witches, Dark Romance,

Written in Blood is the 1st book in the Unnatural Brethren Series by Silvana G. Sanchez.

Written In Blood from the very beginning enthralled me, gripped me by my soul and it hasn't let me go yet. I adore paranormal thrillers, but I have found that Silvana G. Sanchez has managed to do something rather special here.

Silvana grabbed my attention from the very first sentences drawing me into this mysterious and haunting world set in Venice – this is a place where not only history and secrets lie hidden in the shadows and mysterious dark forces are known to be lurking in the shadows, and the lines between good and evil often blur and often are never clear.

Here we meet Ivan Lockhart. Ivan's not only tortured but also haunted by his past and he's running in order to escape his demons (and this is both internal and literal) so he runs to Europe.

The way that Ivan's pain, the weight of his decisions, were so organically portrayed I felt as though I could feel every ounce of Ivan's personal guilt and regret. And then there's the way that Ivan stumbles into the world of vampires, witches, and creatures of the night - a world that's been kept hidden and, in the shadows, – it felt as though it was written in the stars. I felt as though Ivan was never actually meant to out run his past and that no matter what he did, how hard he tried to atone, it was coming for him regardless.

The elements that really made this book stand out to me was how Silvana was able to exceptionally blend components of horror, suspense, and romance. I found that Ivan's journey isn't one of just seeking atonement or self-discovery, it's one that is going to force him into facing terrifying truths about not only himself but the greater world around him.

Sanchez has created the perfect atmosphere for this story – and choosing a location like Venice, three's just something magnetic and perfect about it, the ancient streets, shadowy hidden corners, and of course the ominous waters it all just works together to enhance the tension and keeps you on the edge of your seat. With every page I turned I could almost feel the darkness slinking and creeping off the page.

The romance is just wow. Man is it hot. There is this hot, charged, dark intensity to it that you can't dream to ignore. And the chemistry between Ivan and this mysterious love interest, it just sizzles off the page. At the same time though there's so much vulnerability and mystery surrounding it all that you can't help but be left questioning what is real and what isn't. And just when I thought that I had a grip on everything that was going on, there was a twist that had me rethinking everything I thought I knew.

If you are a lover of gripping, atmospheric thrillers, dark, twisted romances with an edge, and horror, mystery, and a deep dive into the shadows of the supernatural then I can't recommend Written in Blood enough. This is such a great read. This is the best blend of suspense, paranormal, and romance that sets the stage for the perfect series that I can only see getting darker and darker and I can't wait to see what happens next.

I've been dead for so long I whispered in her ear but if there’s anything left worth giving of my lifeless heart, please know it belongs to you.

Written in Blood is one of those books that grips you by the soul and doesn’t let go. I’ve always been a sucker for a good paranormal thriller, but what Silvana G. Sánchez does here is something special. From the very first page, I was drawn into the mysterious and haunting world of Venice—a place where not only history and secrets lie hidden, but dark forces lurk in the shadows, and the line between good and evil is anything but clear.

The story follows Ivan Lockhart, a tortured man haunted by his past and trying to escape his demons (both internal and literal) by fleeing to Europe. Honestly, his pain and the weight of his decisions were so viscerally portrayed that I felt every ounce of his guilt and regret. The way Ivan stumbles into this hidden world of vampires, witches, and creatures of the night felt almost inevitable—like he was never really meant to escape his past, and it was coming for him no matter what.

But what really made this book stand out for me was how Sánchez masterfully blended elements of horror, suspense, and romance. Ivan’s journey isn’t just one of self-discovery, but one that will force him to confront terrifying truths about himself and the world around him. I absolutely loved the atmosphere—there’s something incredibly magnetic about a city like Venice, with its ancient streets, shadowy corners, and ominous waters, that just enhances the tension and keeps you on edge. I could practically feel the darkness creeping up with every page I turned.

As for the romance—wow. It's charged with this dark intensity that’s impossible to ignore. The chemistry between Ivan and his mysterious love interest is palpable, but there’s so much danger and mystery wrapped up in it, you’re left constantly questioning what’s real and what isn’t. Every time I thought I had a handle on what was happening, the story twisted in a way that made me rethink everything.

If you’re a fan of:
⚡ Gripping, atmospheric thrillers
🌙 Dark, twisted romance with an edge
💀 Horror, mystery, and a deep dive into the shadows of the supernatural

Then I can’t recommend Written in Blood enough. It’s the perfect blend of suspense, paranormal, and romance, and it sets the stage for a series that promises to get even darker and more dangerous. I’m already counting down the days for the next book—I need to know what happens next in this world of blood, secrets, and monsters.

"Written in Blood: Vampires, Witches, and Venice" is a thrilling and chilling paranormal romance that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The story follows Ivan Lockhart, a man who has cheated death and is now haunted by his past sins. His journey to Europe, specifically Venice, uncovers a world of darkness and danger that he never imagined.

The novel is richly atmospheric, with Venice serving as a character in its own right. The city's labyrinthine streets and hidden canals provide the perfect backdrop for the supernatural horrors that lurk within. The author's vivid descriptions bring the city to life, making it a character that is as captivating as it is terrifying.

Ivan is a complex and intriguing protagonist. His struggle with his past and his journey towards redemption are compelling, and his interactions with the supernatural elements of the story are both thrilling and chilling. The supporting cast of vampires, witches, and other monsters are equally well-drawn, each with their own unique personalities and motivations.

The plot is a web of intrigue and danger, with Ivan becoming increasingly entangled in the dark secrets of the Old World. The pacing is excellent, with just the right amount of tension and suspense to keep you hooked. The author does an excellent job of balancing the romantic elements with the horror, creating a story that is both heart-pounding and heart-wrenching.

The themes of redemption, the consequences of one's actions, and the struggle between good and evil are explored in depth, adding a layer of complexity to the story. The author's writing style is engaging and evocative, drawing you into the world of the story and making it difficult to put down.

In conclusion, "Written in Blood: Vampires, Witches, and Venice" is a must-read for fans of paranormal romance and horror. It's a gripping journey into the dark heart of Venice, filled with vampires, witches, and monsters that will keep you up at night. The story is a thrilling exploration of the consequences of one's actions and the struggle for redemption, wrapped in a chilling and atmospheric package.

First things first: if you have any triggers, please read the warnings. Trust me on this one. Now, prepare yourself because "Written in Blood" by Silvana G. Sánchez is a wild ride you don't want to miss! If you're looking for a book that grabs you by the collar and doesn't let go, this is it.
From the get-go, Sánchez plunges us into a dark, twisted world where every page is dripping with intrigue, danger, and a dash of wicked darkness. Narrated from Ivan Lockhart's point of view, Sánchez guides us through the transformation of the youngest son of a rich merchant in 17th century England into a creature of the night. From a gentle and compassionate heart to the monster that bumps in the night, Ivan is ready to take on anything that comes his way – and trust me, a lot comes his way.
Sánchez's storytelling is like a rollercoaster: exhilarating, heart-pounding, and just when you think you can catch your breath, you're yanked back into another loop of chaos. The characters are a colorful bunch. Each one is meticulously crafted, with layers that peel away to reveal surprising depths and secrets. The first part may appear a bit slow, but it’s all designed to understand the complexity of Ivan’s soul and decisions.
And just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, Sánchez throws in a twist that leaves you gasping and flipping pages like a madwoman. Many will probably be shocked by the twisted relationship between Ivan and Alisa, whom, by the way, I disliked from minute one. She proves times and again being the manipulative bitch she really is, but remember, this is a book, and we are thrown into a very different time and society.
In "Written in Blood," Sánchez doesn’t shy away from exploring the darker sides of humanity. The book is a masterful blend of gothic romance, with a narrative that's as addictive as your favorite guilty pleasure. Silvana G. Sánchez has penned a tale that’s not just written in blood, but also in pure darkness.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I ended up enjoying this book. I only say that because there is some forbidden/taboo romance in this story - brother/sister romance. But hang with me! The author wrote this story so well! That aspect didn’t bother me enough to ruin the story and a big part of that is because the physical moments are so discreet and not graphic at all. The only spoiler I want to give is that they don’t exactly end up together and Ivan has another love interest, Juliette Deveraux (aka The Red Devil), who comes from the oldest line of witches who survived The Trials! I’m totally rooting for Ivan & Juliette!

Also, this story isn’t primarily revolved around the taboo romance. Instead, this is a story that revolves around the Ivan’s life, the MMC, and it’s actually told in his POV.

The author gives us this elaborate and complex story about the significant moments and experiences that make up Ivan’s life from childhood to the moments that lead up to him turning into a vampire and the moments impacting him after becoming one. Alisa, his sister, plays a significant part in his life story besides her being a love interest.

I loved being taken back to the 17th/18th century. It slightly gave Interview with a Vampire vibes. The author takes us to multiple different places too, like Paris, Venice and Italy. This book isn’t for everyone but I still recommend it. If you can get past the taboo romance or if that doesn’t bother you anyways, you’ll enjoy this dark fantasy vampire romance. I’m excited to read book 2 and hope to see more of Juliette!

Thank you so much to the author and R&R Book Tours for the arc of the book set! 🥰🫶🏼

If you’re a fan of slow burns and lush, descriptive writing, Written in Blood might be the book for you. However, if you’re like me and prefer your stories to move at a brisker pace, you might find yourself skimming through some of the more detailed passages. This is the first book in a trilogy, and while I only made it through book one, it’s clear that this installment is all about setting the stage.

The first half of the book is dedicated to introducing the main characters and diving deep into the background of our protagonist, Ivan. It’s a bit of a slow build, but hang in there—the second half picks up the pace with some intriguing vampire lore, love triangles, and existential musings on life and death from a vampire’s perspective. It’s dark, it’s broody, and it’s got some serious Interview with the Vampire vibes, especially with Ivan, who channels his inner Louis de Pointe du Lac.

Now, here’s where things get a little… unconventional. The book features an incest trope between two siblings in their late 20s, which dominates a significant portion of the story. If that’s not your thing, this might be a tough read.

The story kicks off in 1699, and Ivan, who seems to have nine lives, starts off wanting to die but ends up living life to the fullest (though perhaps in some questionable ways). While the concept is intriguing, and there's definitely some good stuff here, the pacing means I probably won’t be rushing to book two anytime soon. But hey, it does give you plenty to ponder—whether you want to or not!.

I didn't think I had any lines when it came to literature. It turns out I do, and it's incest.

The worst part is that I'd probably would have enjoyed this author's writing if the MMC didn't pursue his own sister. I suppose it's meant to comment on the taboos of society, but as someone with siblings and several children, I just found it sickening, and the relationship itself is toxic. Each time one of them begins to pull away from the other's snares, the reader is presented with a small glimmer of hope, only to have it torn away as the inexplicably end up back in the other's embrace.

I would comment on the whole vampire proportion of the plot, but honestly, it is completely overshadowed by the relationship between the siblings. There's a line on the blurb that states,'If you love Anne Rice and Classandra Clare, you'll love this.' Well, I can assure anyone reading this that that is a lie. Books like this make me wish I had the capacity to DNF, but unfortunately, a half finished book lives rent-free in my head until I can complete it. I certainly didn't want this to spend any additional time in my brain than it had to.

If you've read to the end of this, thanks for taking the time to labour through this rant. It has done wonders for me in getting this monstrosity of a story out of my head. It's a shame, though. The author is a bloody good writer. Their word craft is beautiful, just a shame that the plot line made me feel physically sick.

This book is actually a 3.5-3.75 star read for me, and I’m going to echo a few thoughts about this.

First off I really enjoyed the writing style mostly. It’s elegant but not overly verbose, however this was also its own drawback. Some descriptions of characters ended up being a bit lacklustre due to this as eyes were merely described by their colour and figured were described in repetitive ways.

However it felt very in character for our main character Ivan. This book definitely doesn’t start off slow but as we build the world and his character further the plot definitely takes a bit of a hit because of it. Passage of time can be difficult to ascertain at times, which makes the pendulum of lust and love lose some of its depth.

Overall a good book and the story it has set up for the next in the series is well done - fine to read as a standalone but leaves you wanting to see where the story goes next.

At the outset, readers are introduced to Ivan and Alisa, siblings whose dynamic sets the stage for much of the plot's development. Alongside them emerges Juliette, a witch known as The Red Devil, who captivates Ivan's affections. Sanchez crafts the tale with a poetic touch, weaving a tapestry of words that paints vivid imagery and sets a hauntingly atmospheric tone.

However, the slow buildup may deter some readers, as it did for me initially. The portrayal of Ivan, in particular, elicited strong dislike, compounded by the uncomfortable presence of incestuous themes within the narrative. Yet, perseverance yields rewards, as the story takes a dramatic turn when Ivan undergoes a transformation into a vampire, injecting newfound intrigue into the plot.

One of the novel's strengths lies in its historical backdrop, which adds depth and authenticity to the narrative. Sanchez deftly incorporates historical elements, enriching the story with layers of context and depth.

I didn't realize this was a box set and was pleasantly surprised when I saw it was the first volume. The story has a slow build up. The character development and world building take up a majority of the first book. I wish the love story wasn't incest brother and sister, that's not really my cup of tea and I probably wouldn't pick up he second volume because of that aspect. I get incest was common back then but I just feel like there are so many other romantic relationships I would rather read about. The actual story is why I gave it 3 stars and not 2.

Ivan is a very dislikable character and I didn't enjoy his aspects of the story. It doesn't start to get good until Ivan turns into a vampire. Before that it was just a lot of back story to prepare you for the next few books. Thank you for this ARC for free. I am leaving this review voluntarily to share my experience with the story.

I just finished reading Written in Blood, the first of this set. So I will start by saying the taboo trope of this is not something I read, so I was a bit put off by it BUT the MMC did start something with “The Red Devil” which helped me look past it and also the taboo wasn’t really the focus of the story.

That aside, I did love the world we were introduced to with witches, vampires and shifters and it being set in the 17th and 18th century. Also your favorite probably won’t be Ivan (the main character), but I am rooting for him and Juliette (the Red Devil)!

The story itself is written well but definitely one for the dark romance girlies. So definitely read the triggers and warnings!

Thank you to the author and R&R Book Tours for the review copies!

Silvana Sanchez has quickly become one of my favorite vampire book authors.
This is superbly written. The pages take you to completely different locals and sceneries in your mind. The main characters are thoroughly developed and the minor characters will work their way in your heart as well. That is all except one.
It's takes you on such a rollercoaster of emotions and you don't want the ride to stop. At page one, this turns into a page turner you just can't put down! I truly can't wait to read more by one of new favorite authors SILVANA SANCHEZ.
This book is definitely a MUST READ & a RECOMMENDED BUY NOW WITH ONE CLICK.

It's charming and wonderful the way of Silvana writing. I usually don't like so much of aged stories, but follow the Ivan's jorney and see all he passed throught was really interesting. And I can say the end of book was surprising...
You feel all his feelings with him in all book and you want hug him and say don't worry all will be better soon. :)
I'm going to read the second one. I'm really exciting to see what will happens next.
Are you asking if I recommend it? Yes, I recommend it so much, if you liked of Interview with a Vampire, will love it. :D.

Any vampire book, I am up for it! Not only was it written from centuries ago, but I personally think it was written with knowledge and the entire book made sense.

I did feel it a bit slow at the beginning and it somewhat picked up its pace, but it was a steady pace. One that made you not miss any details and focus on what is happening.

You get so much while reading. You get to feel a few different emotions from what happens and even with that, I had to complete the book to make sure what happened next.

Can’t wait to read the rest of the books from this author. Box set is stunning, by the way!

I strongly disagree with every negative review about this. It's well written and has amazing storytelling ways to engulf you into the psyche of each character. Except the ones that want to remain hidden. Unique plot and amazing choice of words. I could overlook everything even the MMC yearning for womanly love from his sibling. What's the point of blood relation when you become a vampire after? I read this during work right after finishing a classic from one of the Bronte sisters. Maybe it's not a fair comparison, but it was a very smooth transition from that world to this one with the way the writer brought everything to life.

Dark romances are some of my favorite but this one was not my personal taste. Sibling love interests just.... Don't do it for me. But I cannot leave a book unfinished and I kept reading because I thought that Ivan may see that this relationship was wrong and end up with Juliette. The world building, character development, and poetic writing is done well. I just wish that the love interests could have gone a different way from the get go as I would have had a very different opinion on the book overall.

I have to say if I was reading this on my Kindle or a physical book I would have definitely DNF this book. However, I listened to the audiobook for free and was captivated by the narrator’s voice, this is the only reason I stayed because four hours into the book and we were still not too any vampire anything. Really hard to get past the incest, I had to keep in mind Game of Thrones had a similar situation lol to get past that. In the books defense, it did get better in the second half and will probably listen to book 2 while I drive or work since it’s also free on YouTube.

Written in Blood cover drew me in and the story was charming and engaging, but the beginning did drag on a bit - I was almost tempted to DNF. The author did a great job with the writing and the characters were written in a way that kept the story going. The incest between brother and sister was a lot to get used to reading around but the story did pick up faster towards the end, leaving you ready to grab the second book.

A well written, but not unfortunately this one is not really keeping me spellbound unlike her other books. Vampires and the incest thread, typical of those ancient years, but Ivan's weaknesses and Alicia's lure and handling of their relationship did not do anything to keep me amped up to read whereas I was rooting for Juliette rather. Thus the 3 rating and not a 4
