If your church's worship is on autopilot, this 9-week study will inspire new passion and understanding. The focus bypasses technique and timing; instead it zeroes in on the hearts of worship leaders and worshippers. An ideal study for any worship team or adult group grappling with the questions, "What is worship--and how can I worship more authentically?"
Readers are encouraged to read the Bible with each lesson to allow their hearts and minds to meditate and absorb the truths from each reading. Pure Praise is an invitation to a nine-week personal Bible study combined with group sessions that review the
Pure Praise is a study that can be followed alone or in a group. "The more we get to know our God, the more we fall in love Him, which is the ultimate source of all our worship," says Moore.
My worship team did this study together over the course of nine weeks, and I can't recommend this book highly enough. If you're looking to take your praise and worship to a deeper level, this book is an excellent reminder of exactly what worship is, what it's not, and how to focus on the heart, rather than the externals.
The main focus is based on the passage in 2 Chronicles 20, where an entire nation got to experience the power of praise in battle. One of my favorite passages . . . basically, they're up against not one but a handful of armies, God tells them to send the musicians out in worship ahead of the army, they obey, and as they crest the hill, the come upon a scene that blows their minds: the armies have turned against each other, every last one of them is dead, and all they need to do is head on down and collect the booty.
The book reminds us that our praise should always be God-focused, of course, but that we should be sensitive to His voice. Remember who He is and what He's said. There are readings for five days each week, so there's plenty of time to really absorb the teachings, and there are exercises to apply the teachings at the end of each chapter.
Our praise team was healthy to begin with, but our church is going through transition, so this was a good way to strengthen what we know we're doing right, fix what we may be doing wrong, and gain a deeper understanding of our job as worship leaders so we lead others, rather than pushing our own agenda or alienating them by dismissing their opinions.
I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to deepen their worship, anyone who's struggling with the direction their church worship is going, and anyone who wants a heart-focused study on how to gain more intimacy with God through worship.
My favorite Bible story has been 2 Chronicles 20 for quite some time. This study keeps going back to that story as its basis. Many great insights without being too deep.
this book certainly got the worship music team thinking outside the box, and as we shared stories and weekly experiences we became more of a team.
i enjoyed the in-depth look at 2 Chronicles 20 - all aspects of worship are brought to life. there were one or two spots where i felt the author was reaching to make his point through Scripture, or being unkind toward those with a more conservative approach to worship music. i know, however, that had i stopped reading the book at those points, i would have missed out on the "rest of the story".
the book also encourages a deeper relationship with God. the daily exercises in prayer and personal worship are well worth the stretch.
