I love fantasy, adventure, and magic. More than that, I adore my readers.

My books are written to entertain -- fantasy adventures filled with compelling characters, spectacular magic, thrilling action, constant intrigue, and a sense of discovery. I equate them to the "Marvel Movie" version of fiction, intended to be a fun escape.

I would love to have you join me and my quirky characters for one outrageous adventure after another. With over a million published words, my author journey has just begun.

Best wishes,
Jeff

I read books 2 to 4 in this e-book box set format after reading book 1 as a separate e-book. The individual books are already in my profile so I put this collected edition in my "didn't read because reasons" excluded shelf so it doesn't count as double in my reading stats. "DNF" shelf because I stopped after book 4, although maybe I'll finish the series later.

Book 1 - Eye of Obscurance - Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Book 2 - Balance of Magic - Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Book 3 - Temple of the Oracle
Book 4 - Objects of Power
(No links to my reviews for 3 and 4 because I didn't write anything significant.)

This was an odd reading experience. After I read the first book at the very end of 2021, I penned a critical review. The author chimed in unexpectedly; I have had authors (only self-published) comment on my reviews on occasion, particularly when I haven't been very nice; I always bring the receipts though to justify my rantings. In any case, I wouldn't have predicted that Kohanek would be one to chime in, but it happened, and he encouraged me to read at least through book 4 in the series to give it a fair shake. I sat on this request for a while but eventually agreed and resumed the series a year later. Book 2 was admittedly an improvement, addressing some of the content issues that bothered me with the first book, but still with irritants. These broad irritants persisted through books 3 and 4.

What don't I like about the books? I can only express it vaguely. I could get nitpicky with specific examples, but I don't see any benefit in that. The writing, well, the most I can say about it personally is that it's very good for self-published fantasy. Based on that median, it excels. The books, and the writing generally, are better than many well-intentioned self-published fantasy novels I've tried, including Ben Galley and Zack Argyle; certainly better than dross from the likes of Whiskey Flowers, T.D. Wilson, and the like; and perhaps on par with Bryce O'Connor and Andrew Rowe, authors whose wordcraft I liked but whose books I did not. But still, despite meeting essential quality standards, I can't help but find the writing a bit lousy overall. It still includes certain amateur writing tics that I've come to recognize from more obviously lousy books, such as copious character gasps, chuckles, and furrowed brows, but more significant for me are various authorial choices.

The series, despite taking pains in the first book to establish a central cast of characters, then frequently neglects those characters. The books spend an inordinate amount of time on world-plot building far away from the "main" cast with forgettable third-tier side characters; focuses on high-school-level romance and awkward sexual banter; leaves the main characters sitting idle, undeveloped for full books; introduces new story elements at random points to serve the plot of the moment; and seems to willfully ignore the most intriguing developments and potential for character growth. The main characters come across to me as inappropriately dense and incurious about major events. They too appear to serve the plot at the expense of autonomy. In total, I feel the hand of the author too strongly to ever be immersed in the story. I have to conclude that plot is meant to be the main draw, and if that defines the kind of book you like, have at it. I have come to appreciate a primarily character-focused approach to fiction, and I don't see that here.

Who could I recommend this to? The most apt demographic I can come up with is teenagers from Eastern Europe who don't normally read fantasy and insist on only reading self-published fiction. But, the books have overwhelmingly positive reviews (legitimate-looking ones at that) so perhaps it is just a matter of taste.

Great Characters

Although Fate of Wizardoms series is a lengthy journey, Jeffery Kohanek keeps readers up to speed with summaries at the beginning of each book. The characters are simply marvelous, and the last book in the series is a heart-pounding thrill ride with a glorious ending. Very interesting story with wizards, sorcerers, and gods.

It's a while ago now since I read (or rather, listened to) Fate of Wizardoms, but it is a series that has stayed with me ever since. It all starts when the thief Jace waltzes into his next place for a heist, disguised as a woman, and intent on stealing an object of power from some of the most dangerous people in the city. But his plans go awry when a mere slip of girl beats him to it, and events unfold after that, which takes them on a beyond epic journey throughout the series!

Honestly, Fate of Wizardoms has it all! From great world-building and fleshed-out, engaging characters, to a fantastic magic system, and a highly entertaining story, this series has something to offer for everyone! There is action, intrigue, power struggles, magic, large-scale battles, witty banter, romance, mythological creatures, and opposing Gods! It can't really get any better than that!!

But also be warned: Not all of this story is for the faint of heart. Fate of Wizardoms is heartbreaking as well as it is entertaining, making one just as likely to cry as one might laugh, which is a testament to the skill of this author.

I absolutely loved this story, from start to finish, and it offered a most satisfying ending! I cannot recommend it enough!

Note: I listened to the audiobooks narrated by Travis Baldree. They are all high-quality productions and truly bring the story and its characters to life. I highly recommend this means of enjoying Fate of Wizardoms!

An Enthralling Read

A gripping story of magic, wizard lords, humans, elves and dragons. A land built around 7 completely different areas from one where humans were chosen as sacrifices to an arid desert.

A vast variety of characters and an ever changing storyline keeps the reader enrapt from t the start of the story right up to the.last.page.

I found the story to be gripping as each of the main characters travelled through different zones where several tasks were.required to deal with a dark Lord who, in his scheming misery would remain in charge of an evil empire but is thwarted by the main characters who each had a particular skill to overcome the evil they would face along the way.

There is so much more to the story but I did not want to ruin a future reader's enjoyment of the storyline.

This easily.Well worth its 5* rating and I would heartily recommend the book set to anyone willing to use their imagination

I have read and reviewed each book independently but would like to really recommend this sagas boxset to all the lucky readers who love epic magical fantasy and who can now binge read to their hearts content as i know that once they start on the first book they are going to be hooked. These books are fun because they have some real quirky characters but although they have their light hearted moments the tale is intense and very intriguing. There is a war between the Gods as well as amongst the mortals. Wizardoms will fall and be replaced by others greedy for power. Enjoy, I know I did!

Wizards and heroes

An intriguing combination of magic and bravery. Plot and subplot stitched together in a fascinating story, always heading towards the conclusion with a crescendo of anticipation.

We'll written with twists and turns throughout, perhaps not always surprising, I enjoyed the series. Perhaps a little long for my liking but we'll worth a read if you like epic magic interwoven with your fantasy.

Excellent compelling story telling

This is one of the best fantasy novels I've ever read. I found the characters memorable, many of them self obsessed and selfish as well as the cast of heroes, selfless and bold that often had me on the edge of my seat, curious as to what would happen next.

This is a really solid series by an awesome author. Full of action, intrigue, hilarity and sadness. If you're on the fence about getting this, I'm here to tell you, take the plunge, you won't be sorry. An added bonus is that these books have an audio version with a great narrator.

The Fate of Wizardoms book set is a very satisfying epic fantasy series telling the history of how all the rulers in the part of the world in which it is set came to be replaced in a relatively short period of time. I think the process may have taken as long as a couple of years to be fully completed, but this is still relatively short given that some of these guys had been occupying their crystal thrones for up to a hundred years. Aa few of them maybe more.

The Eight Wizardoms are each ruled by a powerful Wizard, most of them assisted by lesser Wizards and Enchanters. Some of these people are nice guys, but most are not. In nearly every case, their power is fueled by the process known as Devotion, wherein the Ruler is seated on a crystal throne backed by a gem of a color specific to their country during a specified period every evening. During this period, all the citizens of the country are supposed to kneel facing the tower where the throne is located and send their prayers of love and devotion out toward the Ruler. This is evidently highly pleasurable and addictive for the Rulers, but it doesn’t always make them love their subjects more.

I liked the first book of the set best. In it, a circus acrobat, Rhoa Sulikani, at the instigation of her mentor, a traveling storyteller called Salvon the Great (who is, however, not who he appears to be), sets out to steal a magical artifact. In the course of this operation, she runs into one Jerrell “Jace” Landish, a professional thief, who is out after the same artifact. I forget exactly how they resolve this, but the upshot is that they agree to both work together, and they set out for one of the neighboring countries, accompanied by Salvon, to assassinate its Wizard ruler. Against all odds, they succeed, and in the process pick up another member for their group – Narine, the daughter of the Wizard they have just assassinated. She is accused by her brother, who becomes the country’s ruler in his father’s stead, of being behind the plot.

They travel to other countries. Gradually, all the rulers of the Eight Wizardoms die. They do not assassinate all of them. There are wars, and some of the rulers die in these wars. Some are killed by their underlings. Most of these Wizards are evil men, but some are only incompetent or mildly corrupt. At least one seems to be a very good man, especially in comparison to some of the others. Some of the underlings who replace them also die not long after. The party traveling with Rhoa and Jace is joined by other people as they travel through the various lands. Some of these people die in various ways during their journey. They come into possession of other magical objects during their travels. Salvon appears and disappears at unexpected intervals.

As the story progresses, Rhoa fades more into the background, while Narine and Jace, who have become a couple, become more prominent. Nothing wrong with Narine and Jace, but Rhoa was my favorite character. Rhoa also finds true love, but her lover ultimately decides to return to the society he came from. Rhoa also decides to return to the circus that is her home; miraculously, it is still mostly intact.

By this time, the world has changed. A false god has been deposed, and the ruling Wizards are no longer all men. But it appears that other adventures await those in the Eight Wizardoms.
